HEY YOUNG BLOOD DOESN'T IT FEEL LIKE TIME IS RUNNING OUT?
These past few days had been interesting as Balthier recovered from the long trek from Fortree to Littleroot so that he could meet Birch. Granted the journey had been worth it as it’d allowed him to get his first pokemon as a breeder. Said Pokemon was currently curled up on his chest dozing away contently in the shady part of a tree he’d happened to find on Route 101. He’d taken a few strolls through the route but this was the first time he’d actually decided to travel through it so that he could get to Oldale and return the way he came. He wanted to find a good place to set up his Breeders Farm and get started on his goal.
Birch had been rather surprised by his choice, he’d been sure he was going to be a Trainer like Flynn but Bal didn’t find as much fulfillment in battling pokemon as he did in simply being around them. He liked being surrounded by eggs and helping other trainers breed them. He could still remember that breeder he met a few years ago and how happy she’d been holding that egg she’d found with two pokemon in the daycare center. It’d amazed him and the warmth of the egg had endeared the expressive young man to that kind of life without a second thought.
Battling was good and all, it was necessary in fact because there would be days when he had to protect his farm. However, he didn’t want that to be the main focus of his life with Engel. The brunette shifted slightly but carefully where he lay on the grass under the tree, cushioning his head with his arms as he closed his eyes. His Cyndaquil was going to help him protect his farm and maybe if he got a day care Engel would help him protect that too. In the end that was all he really wanted.
Before the young man could slip into a light doze the sound of footsteps approaching brought him back and he tilted his head slightly to take a look, curious to see who it was. There had only been a few people lately passing by this area…or rather at least today there had only been.

▶I will - Burn my dread
I once ran away from the god of fear
And he chained me to despair
Nora put a hand on her hip, letting out a sigh, as she glanced around, frowning slightly. She had just picked up her Pokemon from Professor Birch and had finally decided to stop lollygagging and actually get a-goin'. But the problem was... Where the hell was she supposed to go? This whole training business was new to her and she had no idea which place to start at... What didn't help was her awful sense of direction, her mother and father teased her about it constantly, saying that it was a damn good thing that she wasn't going to become a trainer. As a breeder, she could hunker down in one spot and open up a breeding shop for Pokemon. Now that, that sounded like a fine plan.
She glanced down at the Pokemon beside her, who glanced up and gave her a joyful squeak, twirling around. Mm, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to pick this Pokemon. Nora rubbed the back of her neck, nibbling on her lip. Eva had seemed like the perfect fit for her: cheerful, energetic, completely ecstatic to meet other people and Pokemon... But the Snorunt seemed more of a child than a hard-set creature ready to defeat everything that came in her path. Though perhaps that was a good thing; Nora was not good at battling, at all. It took her a while to figure out which moves where to be used and when. Perhaps the two could learn together how to become and actual team. That was probably just wishful thinking.
Nora groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. Alright. Well, it was better to start on this journey now, rather than later. But if she could just postpone it for just a little bit more-
Ah-hah!
A figure laid sprawled underneath a tree, with what seemed to be another Pokemon resting on their chest. Oh perfect! Perhaps they could kill some hours before she had to continue on. The ol' professor wouldn't mind... He'd understand that first thing first was socializing; after all, that would lead to battles which would lead to badges, which would lead to new Pokemon.
She was a genius.
Nora headed over to the figure, Eva in tow and trying -in vain- to keep up with her trainer. The breeder raised a hand in greeting, calling over to the now apparent guy, "Hey. You just startin' on your journey too?"

HEY YOUNG BLOOD DOESN'T IT FEEL LIKE TIME IS RUNNING OUT?
Balthier supposed it was only natural for people to suppose that if you were around littleroot during this time you were beginning your journey and in a way he was. However, Balthier liked to think he was rewriting his journey considering…what happened the last time he’d had pokemon. The thought made the old embers in his chest burn viciously for a moment as his dislike for Aqua and Magma reignited for a moment. His features turning dark for a split second before he sat up carefully a bit to wave slightly at the girl. The Cyndaquil on his chest stirred as he slid slightly into Bal’s waiting arms and he looked up shyly at the trainer approaching them. Reassuring the pokemon, Balthier gave Engel’s head a little scratch before leaning back against the tree they were perched under.
Shrugging his shoulders lightly he gave her a slight grin, “You could say that. You just starting on yours?” She seemed like a new trainer…or perhaps she wasn’t a new trainer at all. Who really knew these days and maybe she wasn’t even a trainer. His eyes fell to the pokemon beside her and the grin on his face became a soft smile as he leaned forward a bit to examine the creature. “Oh wow, she’s gorgeous.” He took out the pokedex given to him and scanned the interesting critter, coming up with the information he wanted and finding out she was a Snorunt. “She’s a pretty interesting girl. You’re pretty lucky to have her.” The brunette’s lips twisted into a wistful smile for a second before Engel bumped his head against his chin with a soft but indignant cry.
The brunette let out a little laugh and playfully flicked his Cyndaquil’s nose. “No one is gon’na replace you silly.” Appeased the fire-type went back to shyly eyeing the duo across from them somewhat curiously and Balthier offered up a hand, “Names Balthier, this here is Engel. You two are?”
Nora gave the Snorunt a pleased smile. She really was gorgeous, wasn't she? Putting her hands behind her back, she raised her chin slightly, her own ego blowing up, despite the fact that she wasn't the one that was complimented. "She's my pride and joy! Though she's tiny, she can pack a punch." She crouched down to look at the Cyndaquil, her own eyes widening. She had heard of these creatures, though had never actually seen one up close before. The ones who had stopped by her family's breeder house had brought one of the trio, a 'Totodile,' if she remembered correctly. Resting her cheek against the palm of her hand, she gave the tiny creature a slow grin. "Isn't he a cutie? I've always been so interested in fire types, though I've never seen one this close before. Most of the time, I work with breeding ghost or ice types. Apparently fire types were far too dangerous for me to handle." Her smile turned wistful and she was quiet for a while, before she gave an embarrassed giggle. "Ah sorry, I guess that was a bit sudden, huh? I'm just a bit nervous, ya know? First time gettin' out of the house, away from the parental units."
While the other human was scanning Eva, she stayed perfectly still, feeling as if moving would ruin something. She was used to seeing those red squares, the man back at the lab was always carrying those things around, handing them out to other humans, younger ones, who had stopped by to take away the man's Pokemon. But seeing one up close, now that was a different thing. It seemed like he liked what he saw on the square though, as a smile appeared, which pleased the Snorunt and she let out a squeak, waving her "arms" in the air. Oh goody, she had done something right!
Nora gave Balthier a smile as he introduced himself. At least she knew his name now. "Nice to meet you, Balthier, Engel. Name's Nora and this here's Eva."

HEY YOUNG BLOOD DOESN'T IT FEEL LIKE TIME IS RUNNING OUT?
Balthier warmed immediately to seeing the girl practically beam with pride as he complimented her pokemon. It was nice to see people take pride in getting their pokemon complimented especially when they were starters like he expected this girl to be. Most of the time people were either unhappy with their pokemon or to his disgruntlement, saw them merely as tools to use. His nose scrunched up just the slightest as his thoughts roamed to the two pokemon thieving teams before he focused back on the girl in front of him. He watched as she in turn crouched down to look at his curious cyndaquil, the bashful creature pulling away slightly for a moment before slowly reaching out to bump his head against her knee.
Engel was curious but his shy nature made it so newcomers always made him so very very nervous. However, she seemed nice enough and her snorunt looked like a happy pokemon. Balthier said happy pokemon made happy trainers which made everything more fun…So that meant she was a nice trainer like his human right?? Happy pokemon meant nice trainers who pampered them and let them sunbath in their lap. Because that’s what Balthier did for him and he was happy, so that had to be it.
The brunette chuckled as the curious fire-type kept edging closer and closer to the girl and her obvious wistful tone. “Thanks, I just got him from Birch so I’m pretty happy. He’s a sweet little guy though a bit shy with newcomers.” He gently nudged the fire-type closer to the girl before giving her a curious look although a slightly confused one. “Really? All of them aren’t too much of a handful. Engel certainly isn’t.” He smiled gently though as his eyes fell back to the female pokemon with the girl, “Ice and Ghost types are pretty cool though, not going to lie. They’re good reliable pokemon that’s for sure.” He blinked for a moment before what she said registered and he looked at her a bit surprised, “Wait you’re a breeder??” A grin slowly curled his lips as he leaned forward a bit. “That’s pretty cool if you are, so am I after all.”
Another breeder, what luck he had to meet someone like him. Did that mean she really was just starting out on her journey to find a place to call her farm?? His straightened a bit as she greeted him and Engel, his grin softening just the slightest as he held out a hand to shake as he greated her warmly, “It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance Nora…Eva. Hopefully this meeting will lead to a good friendship.” He wouldn’t mind meeting this girl in the future and getting to know her better. She seemed sweet and it’d be great to have another breeder as a friend during his journey.
