Niklaus wasn't the only one who hoped Kristmar knew what he was doing. The boy himself hoped he did as well. He was confident in his talents and in those of his hesitant pokémon's but he couldn't predict the krokorok's behaviour with certainty. Snakes were his speciality within reptiles, not crocodiles or even lizards. But it appeared as though his little gamble was working; the enraged creature quietened down as he became transfixed on the glows and subtle flashes that emanated from the many ralts that crowded him at a safe distance. It was still too soon to breathe relief but it at least eased the tension welled in his chest slightly. [break][break] Seeing that his strategy was actually taking a desired effect, the young man allowed himself to offer his travel companion the smallest of smug smirks. [break][break] "Of course I know what I'm doing," he muttered in reply before turning his vivid carmine eyes, flashing in the ralts' bursts of light, back to his pokémon. "Did you doubt me, Nikkie?" [break][break] The small smirk dancing on the corners of his lips faded a little though on overhearing the ranger suggest that the girl intervene again. The lady had a point though; one last little push and the krokorok would undoubtedly be distracted but... considering that Miklayla had enraged it further already, he wasn't too keen on the idea. [break][break] "If she takes too long," Kris whispered to Niklaus, even quieter now, his eyes not leaving Adelaide who was beginning to tire. "Just have Kalos use ice beam instead and let's get this over and done with already."

MAKE ME FEEL
LIKE A GOD
Nik was mildly impressed with the show Adelaide was putting on, the abilities going well together and successfully seeming to distract the pokemon. Sanguine eyes watched as the large crocodile like pokemon seemed to get a little disoriented and lost some of its bluster. However, they could tell easily enough that the pokemon hadn’t lost all of his agitation and Niklaus gritted his teeth, letting out the softest hiss at not totally getting the upper hand on the animal. His attention was stolen momentarily by Kris when he spoke up in retaliation to what he’d said and the pinkette chuckled, rolling his eyes at the blonde. “Careful, don’t go getting a big head or someone might have to knock you down a few pegs.” His tone was noticeably teasing, softer and gentler than it’d been in days especially since leaving Oldale. Even with this rather hostile pokemon around his mood seemed to be lightning the farther they got into their journey.
He winced slightly when he too heard what the Ranger suggested to the girl, Mikayla and glanced over at them. This girl was the one who had agitated the beast further although granted she’d distracted him a bit before the damn thing had decided to put the ice in its mouth. He watched both ranger and girl for a moment before Kristmar spoke up to him and his ruby red eyes landed on the blonde for a second. Kalos himself let out a soft chirp of agreement to the blonde’s plan but he merely shrugged. “If push comes to shove I will.” He wasn’t completely greedy enough to try and steal the lime light from the girl no matter how annoying he found her. So instead he murmured, “I have an idea…hopefully it works.”
The pinkette lifted a bit of his hair, brushing it aside to reveal Ventus who watched everything with wider eyes than usual. Letting out a soft soothing hum he cradled the bat pokemon, taking it from under his hair completely as he murmured. “I need you to help out a bit little guy.” Kalos gave him a puzzled look but Ventus stilled, ears twitching slightly to catch everything his human said. It brought a slight smile to the man’s lips before he grew serious once more and gestured towards Addie. The pokemon let out a soft click, still slightly agitated with her but more preoccupied with the pokemon she faced. “Hush, enough of that now. She can get in serious trouble if you continue.” Properly scolded he quieted and waited for Nikki’s instructions and after a moment of debate he nodded his head as though deciding finally. “You see how she’s letting out dazzling gleam in pulses? I want you to back that up with small pulses of supersonic. See if you can disorient him a little more but gently, Ven.”
The noibat let out a soft screech, as though slightly offended he’d emphasized the gently but obeyed. Opening its mouth just the slightest to release small almost tiny pulses of sonic waves after each pulse of dazzling gleam. Allowing it to meld with Addie’s ability instead of working against it in hopes of amplifying the gleam’s effect on the Krokorok.

ALL I WANNA SEE IS A SKY FULL OF LIGHTERS
❝
THERE WAS A FINE LINE between anger and sorrow, but somewhere along the way Mikayla felt like the distinctive features blurred, and she was just left with a horrid, helpless feeling like no matter how he tried the two strangers would hate her. As a rich girl her whole world was centered around getting people to love her, so she do not know how to react to this. She expected to be met with a little kindness from the pinkette but instead...it felt like yet were hanging up on her, and she wanted to scream. Whatever. Her rage allowed her to ignore the rude comments with a huff (and maybe her over emotional self was getting a little teary eyed, not like she’d ever admit).
When Niklaus reproached her for shouting Mikayla just get completely abashed, and er face literally coulnt get to be a brighter shade of red her blush itself was lightin up the cave as she mumbled an apology to the male, head lowered. She got her hea don a bit tighter and attempted to distract the monster for a bit, and she had gotten her hopes too high.
It was enraged, an Mikayla was at fault. But that was not what mattered- it was the mud coming towards her! Lancel jumped into her arms, terrifieadams Mikayla as well sought refuge behind the shoulders of the pink haired male as his Pokemon shielded the group from the mud.
The ralts gave its own show, and Mikayla lost all fear while staring at its beauty. She might have been breathing down Niklaus’s neck, but her still fascination was warranted.
"Whoa, you guys are amazing. Have you two preformed before?" she asked. And while she was practically whispering down a stranger’s neck, the compliment was genuine.
The nudge she receive from the ranger was enough to make her gasp a little, but she quickly got over it an nodded, the pride ofbeing needed overshadowing fear for the moment. Mikayla bent forward and set her Oshawott on the ground. She whispered instructions and watched astele Pokemon went forth, using another ice beam and creating another little shiny gem to roll the monster’s way this time it rolled a bit further and towards a passage where hopefully the pokemon would get lost for good.
the coordinator's attacks is a dazzling display. deanna herself finds it beautiful -- just like she was in a contest. she smiles as the krokorok finally gives up and leaves, followin the path of the ice ball.
"great job." deanna says, and beckons the group down another path. she soon stops by a wall with a riddle.
"i am half snake. when i grew, i gained the ability to fly and two solid legs. what am i?"

And good riddance. Kristmar was more than glad to finally see that krokorok's retreating scaley behind, and it couldn't have happened a moment later; poor Adelaide's energy was waning considerably after keeping up that spectacle for so long. It might've only been a few moments but for a creature with still so much training ahead of her, it hadn't been an easy task. [break][break] "Phew," Kris sighed, a giddy smile shaping his lips in spite of himself as he glanced in his travelling companion's direction. "That was pretty intense, ja?" His ralts had settled herself down on the ground, looking more than a little drained, and wordlessly lifted up her arms for her trainer to scoop her up. His smile softened even further as he rounded on the psychic type and took her into his arms with a gentle humming, lavishing her with praise through their telepathic channel so no one would have to hear his blatant gushing over how well she'd done. He was pleased but he wasn't about to let anyone hear any of his corniness. That was private. [break][break] As they followed the ranger, now resuming their small adventure, he looked at Miklayla as they walked past. His smile faded for the most part, but the expression he wore was still slightly warm. "I suppose... you didn't do too badly either," he offered as they neared the wall with the riddle. "It'll be interesting to see you in the next contest." [break][break] A riddle was probably one of the last things he'd expected to find in this cave. In the poor light, Kris trudged his way up to the engravings and squinted to read the writing etched into the wall. His face relaxed though as soon as he'd read it. Snakes and pokémon with snakelike bodies were his speciality and, at some point in the future, would hopefully be his recurring coordinating theme. The riddle in itself seemed rather simple and he likely wasn't the only one who'd guess the pokémon he was about to say, but it certainly bolstered him with a little confidence if he were able to be the first. [break][break] "Dragonite." He said, twisting around to face Nikkie and Miklayla. "Its previous evolutions are snakelike in form and it's the only pokémon I know of that gains an ability to fly once it 'grows up'. Plus it grows legs too, and arms but... when have you ever seen a dragonite on all fours?" It perhaps had something to do with their level of intelligence, Kris supposed, being that it was rumoured to be on par with human's. "Anyone got any other guesses?"

HER FACE HAD TURNED into a solemn line of hope and determination as the ball of ice rolled forward, her seriousness not fading until the point in which the last points of its tail had vanished completely from sight. She let out a sigh of relief, a tad on the dramatic side, but after what had happened she firmly believed it was well deserved. The rush of adventure was over her and her knees were a bit wobbly. Fear was not something she reacted easily to- it was all too much of an unknown concept. The compliment handed out by the blonde was hardly outright kindness, but Mikayla saw the warmth and would have seen it even if it wasn't there. The semi-friendly gesture took a lot of the pressure off her, and she let out an even breath, trying to hide how easily rattling she was.
"Yeah, you can count on it!" she agreed, nodding once in a fierce display of passion, and maybe even competitiveness. She did not enjoy losing, and now that she was met with a little respect her confidence seemed to swell.
When they arrived at the wall, Mikayla walked right up with Kristmar and peered over the ranger’s other shoulder, fascinated by the inscribing like a child would be fascinated by a toy. In the end though she knew she wouldn't be able to solve it, so she put on a thoughtful facade as she internally hoped someone else would come up with an answer.
"That sounds about right," she said. "Who’s ever seen a dragonite at all?" she mumbled wistfully, an it was clear then that despite her antics she did love Pokemon as much as the next guy.
Her oshawott leaped into her hands, and Mikayla patted the creature whispering encouragement and all around cuddling it for a bit before letting it rest comfortably against her chest, supported by her hands.

A swell of pride burgeoned in his chest as their answer was deemed correct. He'd been pretty certain that the answer to the easy ridden would be the one he gave, especially when Miklayla seconded it, but it was still invoked a nice feeling to know his knowledge - which was occasionally very lacking - had served some purpose. He gave his ralts an affection pat as he held her against his chest and continued deeper into the cave while their ranger led the way. It was... kinda funny though to see a mechanical doorway in a cave though; it didn't strike him as something that 'blended' in with this natural habitat. [break][break] Between the eerie sound of filtered water dripping and echoing in the cavern, their footsteps as they moved and the murmurs of their pokémon, it was safe to say that Kristmar had let his guard down. After an enraged krokorok and what appeared to be a sealed off pathway, he hadn't been expecting any more surprises. He certainly hadn't been expecting a web to come shooting out of the darkness. [break][break] Inhaling sharply, he clutched his pokémon tighter on instinct and ducked out of the way. What was that? W-What was that? [break][break] "Take it down?" He spluttered to the ranger. "Take what down?!" [break][break] He hadn't signed himself up for this. A guided tour of the cave systems on the outskirts of Petalburg sounded like a nice walk and the chance of seeing elusive pokémon that lived in the deeper recesses of damp, underground places... not this. He only hoped Adelaide had already managed to rest enough since their encounter with the wild krokorok. She sensed her trainer's concern and gave him a reassuring nod before he placed her down, with slight reluctance, on the ground. [break][break] It wasn't like... they had a choice? [break][break] "Growl at it, whatever the fuck it is," Kris snorted, eyeing the not-very-useful ranger out of the corner of his eye. Couldn't she even identify it for them? "And use a dazzling gleam on it too, that should shed enough light as well to get a decent look." Adelaide gave another small nod, trying to radiate confidence although worry was her predominant emotion. What if it was another high-levelled krokorok? She couldn't t-take that down! She pushed it down though and growled towards the darkness anyway in a cutesy fashion, before repeating the same move she'd used many times in quick succession before, albeit this time more intense and aiming to be damaging.

THE DOOR OPENED LIKE magic and Mikayla watched in childish awe as it did, not really bothering to question such a door within a cave. Her mood was set straight the second that things became more focused on adventuring, and she found herself relaxing automatically to the sound of musical water droplets and the sight pretty cave arcs. Even the entrance into a dark area was not met with much friction from the side of the young girl.
A huge net, however, was. She gasped for air as she ran away, we Ohawott clutched straight into her chest with the protectiveness of a tigress’s clutches put over it. she did not scream this time but if it had a notch of better lighting it would be clear she was paler than a sheet.
"Isn't this supposed to be a safe journey?" she shouted, fear shrill in her voice. The Pokemon in her arms jumped out into the clearing, shouting as if to force the opponent to show himself.
"Wait for the gleam, then ice it down, alright?"
The dull cave was suddenly lit up, and Lancel took that a his signal to attack, his mouth opening as he shot out a beam of ice at the first thing that moved.
after all the moves from the pokemon stays quiet. it's fainted. deanna shines down a light on the unknown pokemon, only to reveal...a shuckle. she approaches it, moving it around to read the sign. "don't fuckle with the shuckle." she says exasperatedly.
she leads them out of the cave quickly, leaving them down at the gift shop. she abandons the group pretty quickly after that. "nice job." she says before disappearing into the crowd.
each pokemon gains 1 level
