Passing by both Petalburg and Rustboro City, Sylvester neglected to challenge any of the gym leaders as of yet. Instead he was out here near the mountainous terrain, stalking the high grass and for pokemon as he couldn't see very well in the cave, and neither did he want a pokemon from in there. What he needed now was something promising to capture, like a Trapinch or a Swablu. Yet none of these pokemon seemed to be around, to his dismay.
"This is getting kinda boring. Maybe I should head back?" Looking towards the route behind him which lead back into Rustboro City, Sylvester questioned the self-imposed suggestion. He had already spent so much time out here, and it would be all for nothing if he went back now. Rummaging more through the high grass behind him, Sylvester noticed another trainer making their way towards him. With a few more passing moments, their silhouette became much more clear to him, beginning to feel as though they looked familiar. 'Is that...who I think it is?' He waited to confirm this.
Heading to Rustboro didn't take long since during the event Syndra had scouted the route for the shortest path to the next town. In fact the travel time was so short that the girl had decided to have a quick look through the next route before doubling back for the Rustboro pokemon center. It wasn't too late so she had no problems moving forward. Her eyes wandered around the path ahead but she didn't catch the sight of anything of interest which was a shame considering the other routes she walked through. "Hm, this route doesn't seem too bad." Her words were idle thoughts said aloud for herself alone, mingling with the sound of her footsteps treading through the mixture of dirt and grass under her heel. She didn't venture into the tall grass but after awhile she did start to hear movement within it.
For a moment the girl paused and looked on cautiously with preparation. It could have been another trainer or a wild pokemon. Not too far out she spotted a tall figure so she gathered it was a trainer. In the back of her head part of her recognized the figure so she decided to investigate. Taking a few steps into the higher grass with care not to step on anything that would upset other wild pokemon, the figure became much more recognizable. "Oh," she said swiftly as she put the pieces to place upon seeing the man's face. A smile appeared with a gentle wave of a hand, "Oi! Sylvester!" she would call out so that he would notice her presence though she doubted that he hadn't already before she said anything at all. "Wow, you made it out here before me. That's impressive."

"Hey, long time no see!" It was great to see Syndra, the sole person responsible for his progress so far as a trainer. Helping him along the way to Petalburg City, there he had managed to net his most prized pokemon yet. "You think so?" It was odd, in a way, since he would've thought she passed this area by already. Though, he felt fortunate she hadn't, otherwise this meet may not have taken place. "I actually owe it to you, really. If you didn't help me along to Petalburg City, I'm not all too sure I would have made it here by now."
"So, have you captured any pokemon since our last meet? I've been rather lucky myself." Hopign that Syndra had good news to report, he waited patiently for an answer. If in fact she had captured some, Sylvester entertained the idea of asking her for a battle. While he had a feeling that the possibility of a looming defeat was ever present, it didn't faze his aspiration to challenge her whatsoever. It would be good experience for his pokemon, and perhaps there was more Syndra could help Sylvester learn with a quick battle.
Syndra nodded to affirm that his speed into the next route is impressive. Not that she was planning on speeding through the routes again anytime soon unless there was another limited time event but that did not seem to be an issue. The male looked in relatively good spirits since the last time they had met up so the girl was happy about that. When he said that he owed her for his progress all the young lady did was wave it off, "I'm sure you would have been fine. I just sped along the process." It wasn't a lie and she didn't feel like she had done much. When she traveled the routes the first time she would have loved to have someone else guide her through it. Doing the same if it wasn't inconvenient to her just seemed like common sense.
She didn't expect the question on her pokemon. If she had recalled the only pokemon that he had known she owned was her Turtwig. Rather than ask about it though she nodded once more, "Yeah I have caught a few. That was my main focus hanging around Petalburg for so long aside from training." She smiled innocently wondering why he would ask about whether she caught more pokemon or not. It wasn't a problem but she wondered if he wanted to see them or fight. Not that either would be a problem. "What about you?"
Turtwig, grass-type (overgrow)
Sandile, ground-type (intimidate)
Sandshrew, ground-type (sand rush)
Spheal, water/ice-type (thick fat)
I have more than what I'm listing but they're in progress in other threads so yeah

"Just like you, I have managed to catch some pokemon. Though I didn't get to train them much as of yet. Care to help me with that by having a quick battle?" Noticing the excitement getting the best of him, Sylvester settled down a bit and tried to instead ease the challenge on her. "Well, if you wanted to anyway. We don't have to battle, though, it's up to you. Maybe we could just show each other our new friends?"
Gazing towards her, Sylvester gave an enthused look, as this would be their first battle if Syndra accepted the challenge. Remembering the one pokemon with her during their last meet, he wondered just how much it had grown in comparison to his own pokemon. Did it perhaps evolve, like Marley did, or was he lucky to have evolved his pokemon already? Hopefully Sylvester would figure this out firsthand for himself soon.
The speed in which the male asked her for a battle simply made the young woman chuckle lightly. It didn't bother her at all. After all, when she first started a crazy lady had jumped out and challenged her immediately without even giving a name. That memory would plagued her to this moment. But at least she already knew Sylvester and it was requested kindly not a demand. It wasn't as if she had to accept either but once again the girl nodded. "I don't mind helping you train. A battle sounds fine with me but I won't go easy." Syndra knew how to go easy but unless it was warranted she didn't do so since she felt that it would be an insult to her opponent if she had. As always she smiled and took off the second pokeball that was on her belt.
Walking a few paces to give a bit of space between them, she lobbed her first pokemon out and from a bright light emerged her first. The ground type stretched a bit and let out a cry that sounded as if she was ready to fight. "My first will be Sandshrew and you can have the first move," she offered as she held her hand up as if to show off the pokemon before her. "How many pokemon did you want to use?" she questioned for reference as she wasn't sure how many pokemon Sylvester had. If she hadn't always used Turtwig the grass type likely would have been her first but she was saving the pokemon in case she really needed to for a win. Plus Sylvester already saw her Turtwig so it wouldn't have been anything new.

A deep smile formed on his lips, reaching for one of his own pokeballs—the one containing his Sylveon, Marley. Lobbing it into the air, he responded to Syndra before the battle could ensue. "I wouldn't have it any other way, this needs to help me and my pokemon become stronger. If you held back, it would defeat the point of battle." Allowing his smile to waver, Sylvester quickly made it a point that he was ready to battle.
"Marley, use disarming voice!" As the red silhouette that exited the pokeball made it's way unto the field and manifested it's form, it immediately cried out with it's attack—a boisterous cry that was known to be nigh impossible for targets to defend against. "Follow it up with a fairy wind!" With the battle underway, he wondered what Syndra's first move would be. Would she go on the defensive, or was her pokemon stronger than Sylvester thought?
Sylvester showed signs of getting serious and caused Syndra to do the same. When his first pokemon emerged the girl was surprised to see the fairy type pokemon. "Ooooh your eevee has already evolved huh?" she cooed. She became enchanted by the beauty and cuteness of it. Eevee evolutions were always adorable after all. She even forgot that Sylvester might not have noticed her rules question. "I'm impressed." But now it was game type and Sandshrew didn't appreciate the waiting. Facing the opponent the ground type followed instructions and allowed the Sylveon the first attack against her. What she did not expect was the cute sound that followed. It didn't bother her or anything but now it seemed to hurt to want to attack the other pokemon. Syndra felt some of that too but shook her head. "Get a hold of yourself. Use Magnitude!" On command the ground type stomped her feet and caused the earth itself to shake at the behest of Sandshrew. It wasn't the most powerful but it was overall a strong shaking of the ground. The gust of wind from the fairy type didn't throw the Sandshrew off from the attack but she felt the damage it was taking on him. "Follow up with Poison Sting." Watching to see if the Sylveon would jump to evade the ground type attack, Sandshrew would aim and shoot out a venom coated attack to the fairy type.

Sandile, ground-type (intimidate)
Sandshrew, ground-type (sand rush) Level 14
Spheal, water/ice-type (thick fat)
Vulpix, fire-type (flash fire)
I rolled for Magnitude and got Magnitude 7 but this is RP so idk. Poison sting is self explanatory and Sandshrew was hit with both attacks.

"We'll use three of our pokemon." Noticing he had almost forgot to answer Syndra, it actually had cost him. While he made his reply, the Sandshrew's attack rippled through the earth, hurting Marley and throwing him to the side. 'Shit!' Thankfully, Sylveon was already back on his feet as the sandshrew made it's next attack. "Marley, dodge the poison sting and use tackle!"
Racing towards the Sandshrew, Marley dashed to the side of the incoming attack and continued it's straightforward path towards his opponent. Whether or not it would come to fruition, Sylvester had already began moving onto his next command. "Marley, use tackle again!" Acknowledging the slight pink hue about his Sylveon when it used tackle, Sylvester was curious as to what that was. He had never seen this when Marley was an Eevee using tackle, though it struck his curiosity, watching closely as the battle resumed.
The poison sting was dodged which was a good call considering typing. Luckily ground types were known more for their physical defensiveness so the call for a tackle didn't bother Syndra. Watching the fairy move however was a different story as the pinkish hue enveloped the attack. "Pixilate huh?" she said softly to herself as she studied up on these types of things. Not that it made much of a difference here as either way the attack would be mild hits to her Sandshrew but to be safe the girl decided to get a bit more defensive. "Defense Curl then Poison Sting as it attacks." The ground type had already moved to hide her weaker points but on the command of Defense curl rolled into a ball with her scales hardening. The first attack hit but as the second attack made its way towards the Sandshrew the pokemon shot poison sting as it ran to tackle towards her once more. It was a point blank shot so it should be effective.
As for the three on three battle Syndra raised her hand to give a thumbs up so Sylvester could see that it was okay. It surprised her that Sylvester already had that many pokemon but that was what being a trainer was all about. Aside from battling of course. For now the girl was gathering the moves that the Sylveon had displayed and mentally running through the possibilities. Calculating what the best future moves would be for her pokemon to take.

Used Defense Curl and took both tackle attacks, though on second attack used Poison Sting point blank.

Watching Syndra's pokemon curl up into a defensive state, he merely stood back and watched as Sylveon rushed into a poison sting after making it's first hit. Worst of yet, Sylvester knew it was his fault, yet the only thing he could do was to press onward with his reckless offensive. "Hit it with another tackle, Marley!"
Slouched over as it's one leg was what had been struck by the poison sting, Sylvester could still see it in his pokemon's arm—a bad sign. 'Shit, this is my fault.' It was an unfortunate turns of events, and though he wanted to do well in this battle, it appeared Sylvester and his Sylveon would not be very lucky today. Knowing that it had practically been decided already, he gave the green light for his pokemon to go all out in a performance of his tenacity. "Marley, keep it going with another tackle! Don't give up just yet!" Wondering when it would be that Syndra's Sandshrew landed the finishing blow, he swiftly went through the other pokemon that he would choose to battle with next. It was a hard decision to make.
Pixilate - Lv.11 - Very Injured Sylveon is poisoned! Sylveon uses Tackle! (Pixilate) Sylveon uses Tackle! (Pixilate)
Syndra was surprised that Sylvester had gone for tackle rather than a ranged move like fairy wind or disarming voice, especially since his pokemon didn't seem fit to keep doing any physical activity after that last attack. Still she wasn't going to go easy just because of that. "Evade that tackle and use poison sting again," Syndra ordered with the Sandshrew rolling to the side a bit to avoid the first tackle. It threw another poison attack at the fairy type as it dodged the tackle. It could have repeated what she had done before but the female trainer wanted to prevent Sandshrew from getting too hurt if she could help it. Then another tackle attack was called for and the green haired girl paused hesitantly. This was just a reckless attack and she knew it. She knew her own sandshrew was hurting too but this wasn't the route to go to win. "Use poison sting again once it's close again." This technique was almost like watching a jousting match, except Sandshrew was using a projectile and Sylveon is a fairy type that didn't seem to be able to put out much more. "You can end the battle before your Sylveon takes too much damage by recalling him if you think this is over. I wouldn't want your pokemon to hate you for pushing too far."

While it was a nice sentiment, and definitely intended as one, Sylvester could not shake the feeling Syndra gave him when she mentioned Marley coming to hate him for pushing the battle so far. "Marley will never hate me. Sure, he might not be happy with me, but losing one battle doesn't mean losing the world." Watching Syndra's Sandshrew use poison sting once again, he commanded Marley to evade it once more. "Marley, dodge it one more time!"
However, the pokemon's attempt to get out of the way was pretty unconvincing. Still scathed by the projectile, albeit barely, Marley fell down and was hit with the next incoming poison sting—this time struck head on. With a loud cry, Marley fell over on it's side, unable to go on. Moving over to his pokemon in a hurry, he stroked it's fur and looked to make sure he was okay. There was still a pulse, relieving his worries as Sylvester allowed Marley to go back into his pokeball. "You may not approve of our method, but everyone learns something from their defeat—even pokemon."
Pixilate - Lv.11 - K.O. Sylveon is poisoned! Sylveon is hit by Poison Sting! Sylveon is hit by Poison Sting! (Critical Hit)
Reaching into his inner coat to place Marley's pokeball back inside, Sylvester retrieved another pokeball, releasing his pokemon out onto the field—a Shroomish. "Pick a different pokemon, or use another. I don't care. Just stop asking me and my pokemon to hold back when you said you wouldn't be." His expression changed this time around, almost as if upset with what Syndra has said to him about giving up early.
Effect Spore - Lv.07 - Healthy Shroomish is on standby!
The female sighed at the male's response to her suggestion. She didn't mean it in a negative way and she didn't much appreciate the way he responded. Still she bit her tongue for a moment as she watched the pokemon fall. "I'm not telling you to hold back but I don't like the way you handled that battle," she said firmly this time instead of her upbeat style. If her pokemon had a chance of winning she'd let them battle as much as she could but she wouldn't let them faint in vain. That was cruel in her eyes which is how she saw this fight. It should have been clear that Syndra was not holding back but it didn't change the fact she didn't like how this was turning out. Even so, it was obvious that the male cared about his pokemon it still didn't sit right to allow her friends to fight needlessly to the point they'd pass out unless they had a chance at winning especially with reckless tactics.
She was going to follow the rules she usually fought by and recalled her Sandshrew, "thank you. That's enough for now." The line of red light enveloped the ground type as the male sent out his next pokemon. It didn't look entirely too powerful and she took it as an opportunity to give her newest pokemon some experience. Throwing out the next pokeball the flash of light this time revealed a small timid fox. The fire type waved her tails a bit and looked around the new scenery with curiosity. "Vulpix we're going to battle now," she said gently to which the pokemon gave a cute cry of agreement. She faced her opponent with her tails spread apart in a battle ready stance. Syndra wasn't going to wait this time. "Vulpix, use ember as much as you can." The fox inhaled a breath and shot out a puff of fire towards the Shroomish. Then without hesitation took another breath to throw another one out in succession.

Watching Syndra closely as she summoned her next pokemon, it was quite obvious she knew what she was doing with her selection of pokemon. For Sylvester, it was a matter of running down the pecking order of his only three available pokemon. It would have been nice if his Torchic egg had hatched by now, but that was surely not going to be the case. Watching the Vulpix respond to the commands immediately, Sylvester knew he had to help Daisy out—and quickly.
"Daisy, dodge the embers!" The airbone wads of fire spit out from the Vulpix descended down around the Shroomish, who was now dancing about trying her best not to get hit. Though Daisy managed to dodge the first barrage, the second one seemed to clip the petals around her waist—a critical hit that sent her running towards Sylvester, crying out in pain. "Don't run towards me, Daisy. Use absorb twice on the Vulpix." Whimpering lightly, the Shroomish took aim and began it's attempts to channel vitality from Syndra's fire type.
