It only took a moment for him to notice the rather distracted air coming from Kristmar and he watched the male closely. Getting the sense that something was upsetting him but being unable to put his finger on what exactly until his pokenav was given back and he followed the blonde’s gaze. They landed on a group of people who were acting rather unbecoming of such a formal event and he wondered which person there was affecting the blonde most. He hummed distractedly in agreement to the blonde’s words as he studied the group for a moment before his gaze, drifted catching sight of a seemingly hidden balcony not too far from them just as Kristmar stated he was going to get some fresh air and asked if he wanted to join. A soft smile curled Yami’s lips and he gestured towards the balcony, “Yeah, I’ll come. There looks like there’s a balcony over there.” He scooped up Machiko, earning a soft purr from the female Glameow as she snuggled down in his arms. He led the way to the balcony, his eyes catching sight of a flash of blonde and he caught sight of Usa.
He almost hesitated before he remembered Kristmar’s more somber mood and decided this was far more important than saying hello. With that thought in mind he continued on, opening the glass door and holding it for Kristmar to step through while waving a waiter over and exiting into the balcony as well. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly in an almost sigh as the night hair filled his nose, it was cool compared to inside where all those bodies created a quite a bit of heat. Unthinkingly, he loosened his tie a little more until it undid itself just as the waiter came to the door and Yami grabbed two glasses once more, offering one to Kristmar. Satisfied that both guests were content the waiter departed and they were left alone on the balcony. It was a rather large one but beautiful nonetheless as he strolled over to the railing at the edge, sipping lightly at his drink as he looked out.
Yami set down the drink on the stone banister, Machiko hopping from his arms on to it so she could curl up and doze lightly. The brunette watched her for a moment before looking over at Kristmar studiously and after a few seconds he asked carefully, “You feeling better now?” He paused before asking cautiously, “Was there someone in that group you knew? Ano…you don’t have to answer that actually.” He ran a hand through his bangs, huffing when they only fell in his eyes again but feeling a little awkward all the same which was weird even for him. He could vaguely make out the music playing in the background and he wondered at how much it truly felt like an aristocratic party when he was actually away from the heathens that made a mockery of it. It was a beautiful place though and he decided that their sponsor had been wising in choosing to host the gala here. So far the night had been interesting between the speed dates and now this he wondered what else was in store for them.

The air out here, on the balcony, was irrefutably more pleasant than the cloggy atmosphere inside the main gala room. It was cool, laden with the heavy scent of sea salt, and just slightly humid enough to be just refreshing and not sticky. Gone was the overpowering concotion of dozens of different perfumes and colognes blending into one single pungeant pong. The different in airs was pronounced enough to be noticed but, for Kris' seviper, the difference was exaggerated due to his more sensitive senses. Relieved, the large serpent hissed his contentment and sprawled out on the small garden found on the balcony, partially concealing his body between the decorative shrubs that were planted there.
The view was spectacular as well. Slateport's pier - bustling of a day, eerie calm of a night - was visible from here. Kristmar allowed himself a moment to admire it after Kurayami passed him his drink, beholding the fitting backdrop for such an ostentatious place. He watched the boats as they bobbed about gently in the tranquil marina, both them and the subtle ripples in the water lit by strings of floodlights that hung above them like fairy lights from this distance.
When Kurayami finally spoke up, Kris' dark cerise eyes turned to the male instead. The corners of his lips twitched into a species of smile, vying to not give the fleeting dip in his mood too much importance.
"Sort of knew," he muttered with a certain subdued quality. "But it's really not too important."
Wary of the mood turning a little drab, Kris chose to drop it for the time being. It wouldn't be fair, after all, to trouble his company with business that didn't involve him. It wasn't anything too tragic either; it was a matter of Kris assuming someone for someone they weren't and developing a certain fondness for that image he'd fabricated. It was disappointing but, by now, it was something Kristmar was used to. He'd met many people who weren't what he expected and it was just another one of those things.
The blonde shed his suit jacket and folded it over the stone balustrade carefully. He also took off his seviper mask and rubbed his nose where it'd be sat. Unlike Kurayami, he left his shirt buttons and crimson tie aptly fastened although the way the other coordinator had done away entirely with his own tie made him chuckle.
"We aren't one for ties, I take it?" He hummed deeply in his throat, leaning forward on one of his elbows on the slightly weathered banister. With the other hand, he flicked at the spurned tie that hung loosely around the other's neck with an impish quirk to his slight smile. "Shame. You don't look too bad dressed like this."

Yami considered what the blonde said for a moment, watching him through the corner of his eyes as he looked out over the balcony into the vast darkness of the sea. However, he decidedly left it alone, the tone in which Kristmar spoke let it be known it wasn’t a happy topic and Yami didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere they’d had going on earlier. He still wanted to get to know the blonde haired male and he had no doubt with time he could always probably ask about it but for now it was a subject better left back there in that crowded ballroom. So without much more thought he dipped his head obligingly and continued looking out over the city and sea, reveling in the slight breeze they got so high up and how much of a beautiful view they were privy too. He could vaguely remember back home when he’d started out playing guitar on his own before joining his band, once in a while he was invited to places like this. It was pretty and extravagant but the people had mostly been nice to him and understanding of his jitters the very first time. That seemed like so long ago now.
Silvery eyes slid sideways when he noted Kristmar moving, his gaze fell lightly on the male as he took off his suit jacket and mask. His eyes roved for a moment before he snapped them away, busying himself with taking a sip of his drink before his attention was grabbed once more by Kristmar’s voice and he chuckle. The low throaty sound more of a purr than anything as he leaned his hip against the cool stone and looked at Kristmar directly. He was taken a little off guard though when Kristmar flicked one side of the undone tie, freezing for a second as he blinked before shaking his head at that other. “I’m not one for monkey suits is all. I’m used to it but not overly fond of it.” He hesitated, giving Kristmar a long look before a slow smirk quirked the edges of his lips and he murmured, “You don’t look so bad yourself so you can make it up for my dislike of it.” There was a hint of tease in his voice but honesty as well, Kristmar did look good even when he’d taken the jacket and mask off.
He followed his lead, taking his own jacket off and laying his mask beside him near Machiko before rolling up his sleeves a bit. He’d probably be leaving after this, his patience for these types of events already wearing thin and he realized belatedly he was a little tired. Letting out a low thoughtful hum he turned his back to the banister and hefted himself up, perching on it comfortably before raking his hands through his hair. This succeeded on freeing his hair from his hair tie and he sighed softly in relief, situating it onto his wrist and rubbing at his scalp for a moment. “Okay…so we’ve traded IM’s, fawned over pokemon and now here we are, as cliché as it is, out on a balcony.” His tone held a hint of humor, storm grey eyes flickering towards the blonde as he tucked his lose hair behind an ear, and he continued on with a wry tone. “Yet you’re still a complete mystery to me. So…Let’s hear it. I want to know more about you.” His words were bold, no hint of embarrassment in them as he picked up his slender glass and took a sip of his drink.
The brunette made a thoughtful sound before he discreetly glanced at the blonde and asked, “You’re a rather handsome guy, surely you got to have a girlfriend…or er…boyfriend.” Slender but calloused fingers rand through inky black hair, having no idea why he was even bringing this up in the first place considering that was definitely not what he’d meant to ask or say.

It actually didn't strike Kris as too much of a surprise to hear that Yami wasn't a fan of suits. The teen, from what he'd seen so far, oozed a certain informality to him, hence why he'd been surprised to have even spotted the male in such a stuffy event such as this one. He rolled his eyes upwards to the sky, inky and velvety, embroidered with constellations of shimmering pinpricks, and vaguely wondered what on earth Kurayami, as a coordinator, had planned for contests if even a simple suit was considered a monkey suit. If he dared to turn up at a contest in jeans and a shirt, Kris knew he'd find himself chuckling fondly from the sidelines yet unsurprised.
He watched the boy as he untied his hair which, up until now, he'd only ever seen combed back into that tiny ponytail he always sported. Honestly, he didn't know what purpose it even served since Kurayami always appeared to be contending with his bangs stubbornly trying to curtain his face.
But then Kris hastily glanced away after his eyes widened almost inperceptibly. Perhaps he hadn't picked the best way to divert Yami's attention with a different topic if... this was the direction it was taking. The teen was bold and spoke undaunted, without shame, and... caught Kristmar off guard with his question. He tapped the stalk of his flute with his nail, making tiny glassy peals, and lifted it to his lips to help swallow down the thrum of nerves that ignited in his stomach. For a moment even the night air suddenly felt cooler on his cheeks.
"If I had one of those, I would've invited them along to this farce," he said with a slight snort, recovering his elfish smirk despite himself. "Then at least I wouldn't have had to come alone." Kris turned slightly to rest both of his elbows on the balustrade, cupping his glass in his fingers and dangling it over the sheer drop below as he faced the marina, continuing to talk with a teasing lilt. "I suppose you're not too bad a company though."
Kristmar glanced to the darker-haired male, his eyes skimming over his lean silhouette from the side before turning back to gaze once more at the ghostly vacant pier. His line of sight was lost though to the sea and was unfocused, he looked without looking, his attention absorbed by the person besides him instead. He felt very aware, wary of this tentative ground he was venturing into and unsure where they were even going with this topic. Kurayami was far from a boorish individual, he was cheeky and capable of making the blond crack a smile, he was interesting to talk to and surprisingly easy to feel comfortable with. Kris had already noticed on previous occasions that his eyes were drawn to him in a physical sense but now, right now, it all just made him feel rather on edge, even if the only hint he gave of this were a pair of slightly clammy hands.
"And anyway. Why would you even want to get to know more about me, hmm?" Kris tilted his head forward and pressed his lips against his shoulder to look at the male, his eyes narrowing playfully. "Aren't I just a stuffy old adult? You should know already that there isn't really anything fun to know."

Yami didn’t fail to see the reaction his question coaxed out of the other male even if he had turned his face away from him. The younger male felt a crooked grin pull at his lips, a pique of something familiar rising in his chest as he watched the blonde male for a moment, entertained. He watched Kristmar closely as he picked up his drink and studied his lithe form, bent slightly as he leaned on the banister that Yami himself sat atop of. Kristmar was…charming and he was the first person Yami spoke to…and had liked speaking to. It made the blonde, special in a way considering the brunette very rarely dealt with people and when he did he rarely found them to be good company. His eyes narrowed slightly over the rim of his glass and he brushed the thoughts away, not wanting to venture down them anymore and deciding he’d much rather simply enjoy their time together like they had been doing. Things were easier like this anyway, just like they’d been when they’d met.
With that in mind he looked over his shoulder, twisting his body sideways so that it faced Kristmar with his leg propped up on the banister as well but his face was turned towards the black abyss that was the sea. However, his attention was caught again as Kristmar spoke up to answer his question and Yami had to silently scold himself for the soft breath that wanted to escape in relief. He most certainly wasn’t relieved Kristmar didn’t have anyone intimate and that was just a stupid thought. However, at Kristmar’s teasing words Yami blinked before letting out a soft breath of laughter. His arm hooked over his crooked knee and he leaned forward, gently taking a lock of blonde hair between his fingers and looking at it thoughtfully for a moment. His gunmetal gaze flickered to Kristmar’s face, giving the other male a long look from beneath his lashes and allowing a slow smirk to curl his lips as he murmured softly, “You suppose? I’m hurt, Kristmar. Here I thought we had something.” There was a playful lilt to his last words but his eyes didn’t leave the other male even as he allowed golden strands to slip through his fingers as he released them.
He watched the other male for a moment before Kristmar turned to him with his questions, the brunette studied him for a moment debating on what to say. A few things came to mind to say. He was fun to be around, he was charming, he made Yami curious and quite a few other things but instead he allowed a playful grin to curl his lips as he leaned back a little. His steely gaze wandering over the tiny specks of lights that made up slateport as he spoke up, “Here I thought even stuffy grown-ups need friends. Isn’t that what friends do?? They get to know each other and spend time together.” Granted Yami’s experience with friends were rather limited since he didn’t let many into that inner circle. He had plenty of acquaintances but not many friends. It was one of the reasons him mother had started showing him her old Coordination things in hope of drawing him out. As an afterthought he shrugged his shoulders again and stated those thoughts, “Then again I don’t have a whole lot of experience in that department so maybe I’m wrong.”

This was a brazen invasion of personal space in all the meaning of the words. It was so unexpected that Kris almost gave a slight start on feeling how a silky lock of his hair was taken in Kurayami's hand. If before he'd already been aware of the male's presence besides him, now it was just amplified ten-fold. He felt every tingle and gentle tug on the fine hairs as they slipped through the younger man's fingers, making his eyes snap over to watch him out of the corner of his eye. Had... something? What did that even mean? Was Kurayami just messing around with him? The urchin was a reknown tease... perhaps this was the case as well and Kris, not being accustomed nor comfortable with people touching him in such friendly manners, was just... reading more into this than necessary. The way he tensed up would be noticeable, and perhaps the way the apples of his cheeks gained a rosy shimmer in the dull light as well.
He didn't answer Kurayami though, not even knowing how he could answer that. He had a feeling that the boy was just being his impish self but, even if that were the case, Kris was still stumped with how to react. He was aware that he'd likely started this though... he just wasn't too certain on how to continue it. If... he wanted to continue it.
Kris tucked his hair behind his ear and mindlessly ran his fingers through the locks that the cheekier coordinator had touched, taming them back into their place. He glanced away from him and back to his glass before taking a swallow of the bubbly alcoholic beverage.
What Kurayami said next though just... threw him even more off though. That hair-touching, even done in jest, hadn't seemed friendly. It'd seemed a little more intimate than just friendly... but then here he was talking about being friends?
"You... don't have a lot of experience?" He tentatively asked, quickly adding on: "With friends?"
He quietened for a moment and studied the younger boy for a moment, taking in his lax and slightly dangerous perch on the balustrade. The drop below was great and there was a small bloom of nervousness in Kris' stomach which he put down to this. He reached out to gently coax his leg down by pinching his trouser by the ankle.
"Or not a lot of experience with stuffy adults?" Kris hummed, trying to keep the atmosphere light. He finished off his drink before continuing. "You don't strike me as a person who doesn't have a lot of experience with other people." The blonde told him honestly as he went back to leaning against the stone banister, cupping his lower face in his hands, watching the darker-haired male through casually lidded eyes, teetering between teasing him a little or adopting a more serious note. He went for the former and gave a slight smirk. "You're a cheeky pest... so perhaps I'm not surprised at the same time."

i wake at the first cringe of morning

A splash of pleasure warmed the younger as he took in how the action had affected Kristmar, enjoying the way he’d tensed up. A part of him was even sure he’d may have caught a glimpse of a blush on the blonde’s cheek but he didn’t follow that like of thought. The face of another blonde popped into his head and he cooled his actions, wondering if his sudden mood for playfulness was simply brought on by the earlier interest he’d had in the younger male from the speed dating round. That thought was quickly brushed aside because…for all the time he’d been with Kristmar the only time he’d thought of the other blonde was when he’d spotted Usa just before coming out onto the balcony and now. This was all Kristmar’s doing, somehow the slightly older male was managing to bring out the more playful side of Yami just as he’d done before when they’d first met after only a little while of talking to each other.
It was strange, to have someone bring out this much emotion in him when usually he was much quieter and polite…sometimes even coarse. Granted when he’d first met Kristmar he’d been on the verge of sarcasm and coarseness because of his mistaken thoughts on his Glameow.
His thoughts were cut short and stopped from further exploration when Kristmar spoke up, questioning his words about not having much experience with friends. His lips quirked when Kristmar tried to coax him down from his perch and instead caught his hand, holding it gently as he tried to ease his grip from his pants with a soft murmur of, “I’m fine. It’s not even that dangerous.”
Before he allowed himself to actually dwell on the answer to Kristmar’s question with a low soft almost inaudible hum. His eyes looking down at his own two hands as he thought of the best way to explain before Kristmar spoke again, the teasing in his voice back once more and Yami couldn’t help the warm fondness that was slowly beginning to grow for the golden blonde male by his side. His gunmetal gaze studied Kristmar for a moment as he chuckled softly and said in answer to his last teasing words of Yami being a pest. “Only to you, Kristmar, only to you.” So far it was nothing but the truth, Kristmar really had been the only one he’d gotten so cheeky with and blatantly playful. Granted he’d already decided to give Kristmar a few more liberties than he gave most people seeing as he appreciated Kristmar’s company compared to others.
However, he grew a little more serious as he gave the older male a thoughtful look, debating on how honest he should be. After only a few moment though he decided it was best to simply be as honest as he could bare and shifted so that his back was once more to the open air the sheer drop left beneath them. “Back home…Eeeto…no I should say in general. I’m not that great dealing with people. It’s one of the reasons my mom showed me her contest tapes. She was hoping it’d open me up a bit to other people if I got involved with pokemon.” Yami shrugged his shoulder’s the slightest bit since…sure it’d opened him up a bit but he was still rather a lone even on his travels. He hadn’t really made friends yet accept…Kristmar was here and he offered up a little genuine smile as he said, “I didn’t really put much hope in that idea until I met you.”

If anything, Kristmar sort of just expected his hand that tried to get Kurayami to assume a safer position on the balcony to just be brushed away. The blonde's face when he felt the boy actually clasp it in his own must have been a picture. This was... faaaar too cozy and impudentfor him. Kris treated most people he encountered with a fair degree of informality but he didn't do... whatever this was. It didn't seem proper. They were just recent acquaintances and, yeah, perhaps on their way to an actual friendship and, yeah, Kris was probably overdrawing importance to this, but he didn't go around holding people's hands uninvited as a deterrent to stop them doing something.
The colour in his cheeks, which'd only been slight, darkened considerably and he hurriedly wiggled his clammy fingers free. He ignored the swooping sensation in his gut and roughly turned back to face the balcony with a somewhat gruff grumble of "Suit yourself." He went to grasp his flute, just to give his hands something to do, but remembered that it was empty and went back to cupping his face instead.
Kurayami was bold and he said whatever he wanted too. The total opposite of someone like Kris who, more often than not, held his tongue and controlled his actions. He was reticient regarding many matters, especially more personal ones, so... to hear the male beside him openly talk about how he was reserved was a little... not exactly what Kris was used to.
Despite that gross difference in their personality, Kris couldn't help but notice that they appeared to have something else in common. Rewind a couple of years and Kris hadn't been the most sociable of people; he'd been hesitant and closed off until he just... got tired of it. Tired of being pushed around, of being taken for granted, of being disrespected. The change hadn't been sudden, it'd been gradual as he'd matured into an adult, but it'd been what he'd needed to finally cut all ties with Magma.
Not like he could admit that to Kurayami even if he wanted to though.
So, instead, Kris pursed his lips and jerked his chin away, letting slight second-hand embarrassment slip in at how candid the other boy was when he spoke. His words were touching and sounded genuine but Kris just answered them with another grumble.
"Are you listening to yourself?" He muttered in a dour tone, trying to cover his flattered embarrassment with a surly veil. "Gott, you don't just say stuff like that out loud, Yami." Catching a glimpse of a waiter out of the corner of his eye who lingered by the door, scanning for empty glasses, Kris beckoned him over and avoided eye contact with his company. He handed the well-dressed worker his empty glass and allowed a fresh one to be placed in the same hand.
"I'm sure you must know other people besides me that... make you act like this." He gave a soft yet churlish snort, sounding reluctantly humoured. "Aren't you at least travelling with someone?"
Yami chuckled when Kristmar wriggled his hand away, not minding the obvious rejection of his touch considering it’d been a split second thing. He hadn’t really thought about the action simply reacted without thought, it was something he’d have done with his little sister so he didn’t put too much thought behind the action. However, it was obvious to see Kristmar wasn’t exactly comfortable with it even as he mumbled out a ‘suit yourself’ and Yami kept that in mind for the next time even though the blonde had been the one to initiate first contact. However, Yami wasn’t going to push his luck seeing as they were still trying to get to know each other and learn each other’s ticks. At least he was trying to get to know Kristmar’s ticks and any other little bits of information the other was willing to share with someone that he’d only just met recently granted they’d shared a bit already over at the café when they’d first met but still. He was certainly knew to actively trying to make a friend so it was only natural that he try and be a bit more thoughtful of Kristmar who was probably friendlier than he.
The brunette blinked at Kristmar’s tone after his explanation, a little surprised by it before Yami felt a grin curling his lips warmly and he chuckled. Shaking his head he said teasingly, “Perhaps you don’t say things like that out loud Kris but I assure you other people do.” It was sweet and cute to see the other…uncomfortable? Shy? In either case another flood of fond warmth curled in his chest and he had to shake his head at the male beside him, bracing his arms on the cold cement banister beneath him and leaning back a bit to look up at the stars. His attention was averted when Kristmar waved a waiter over that had been hovering almost unnoticeably by the door. Yami watched for a moment before picking up his drink and draining the last of it in one gulp handing it over only to be offered another but he shook his head with a grateful smile before setting his steely gaze on Kristmar again.
A soft thoughtful hum made its way past his lips, more of a deep rumble than a hum but it was recognizable for him being in thought. After a moment he shrugged and answered honestly once more as he spoke up. “Well…only my family and there was one person on the band I was pretty familiar with but not a lot like this.” He shrugged a little, eyes narrowing just the slightest as memories resurfaced before pushing it back. “I learned pretty early on I was a little more different than my classmates and other teens my age.” They’d been interested in girls, dating, music, hanging out and drinking but Yami had been much more interested in hanging around his sister, playing guitar, pokemon and well…guys. He could appreciate women and had even dated a couple but he’d always leaned more towards them granted he was much more attracted to aspects more than anything.
“Traveling with someone?” He gave Kristmar a mildly bemused look before shaking his head. “No, I’ve been traveling around on my own. I haven’t really met anyone who I could travel with and most of the other trainers I’ve met have only wanted to battle.” Homesickness and the desire to see his sister curled in his chest once more, she’d always been able to understand him and ease his slight insecurities. She wasn’t here now though and he’d decided to take this journey alone so no…he hadn’t a traveling partner not that he’d never thought of it. He’d just never found anyone who’d make a good traveling companion.

That sounded rather... lonely. And not a far cry from Kristmar's old teenage predicament, although his had been down to a language barrier and a constant feeling of being so... foreign all the time. He'd, at least, tried to fit in though despite the results being quite regrettable. Kris watched him quietly over the brim of his glass, sipping the sparkling drink, and didn't give much more than a pensive hum in response. It still surprised him that Kurayami could honestly be considered the 'quiet type' because, almost from the very moment he'd met him first, he hadn't given him that vibe at all. Maybe what he'd said was nothing but true. Maybe Kris really did just... naturally let the guy open up comfortably.
"You're not?" He asked, lowering the glass from his mouth and pressing the back of his hand to it for a moment to dry his upper lip. "I suppose travelling on your own isn't too big of a deal when you have your team with you."
It was hard to feel lonely, at least. Kris had only been travelling on his own for a short while after his old travelling partner, Niklaus, suddenly had other business to attend to or something like that. He'd looked a little unsettled at the time though but Kris hadn't had time to inquire further. It was taking a while to get used to it anyway and... honestly, a little human company was easily missed. This guy though, Kurayami, he reminded him a bit of his old travelling buddy with his teasing nature (although he appeared to do it in a much more good-natured way than Niklaus) and perhaps that was why he was quickly comfortable with him. It was familiar.
"I was travelling with someone up until recently." Kristmar rolled the glass in his hand, holding it precariously over the drop by its brim in his slim fingers, letting the liquid gently slosh around as he watched it. "It's nice to have the company, y'know, although... he'd would've given you a run for your money with how annoying he was at times." A fond smile curled the corners of Kris' lips. "And your hair's nice but... it has nothing on his."
A small warm smile curled Kurayami’s lips as he looked over at his Glameow, the feline curled up on the railing near him purring softly. His pokemon was a big part of the reason he’d been able to make it so far without giving into the homesickness and the desire to just give up. He reached out and caressed the feline along her spine, making her arch just the slightest and curl closer to his warmth as he murmured, “Yeah, I don’t know what I would have done without Sei, Machiko or Hana. They’ve really saved me while we’ve traveled together.” His gaze slid to the side and gave the male a considering gaze before murmuring, “I really couldn’t have asked for a better team to be by my side.”
After a moment of quiet consideration of his Glameow as her purring got slightly louder as he caressed her fur wherever his fingers reached, the male spoke up again. “You were traveling with someone before? What happened to that??” He gave Kristmar a curious look, his eyes traveling over the other male once more and appreciating the way the clothes fit him for a moment before focusing again. “Did you two not get along??” He knew sometimes traveling companions fell apart, they just couldn’t find a connection and decided to separate ways whether on good terms or bad ones was always the question. It was interesting to learn something about the blonde though, especially when they were still so new to each other and still learning about the other.
Granted it didn’t really sound that way with the way Kristmar was talking and something vaguely left a bad taste in his mouth at what almost sounded like fondness from the blonde. He brushed it away though and considered the older male’s words, a slight smile quirking slightly before he murmured in amusement. “He sounds like a pretty interesting guy…I wouldn’t have minded meeting him.” Then again…maybe not as he thought about the way Kristmar had spoken of him.
His mind brushed off the tone and words only a few moment as he heard music, slow music, slipping out into the air around them from inside the Gala. He gave the doors a considering look before glancing at Kristmar for a second. Slowly a mischievous smile curled his lips and his eyes glinted before he slid off the stone guard, gracefully turning on his toes to face Kristmar and bow at the waist. “Dance with me, Kris?” The nickname slipped off his tongue before he’d meant it to but he simply rolled with it as he held out his hand for Kristmar’s, looking up to flash the blonde a roguish grin that clearly said his playful intent behind the request even though he did want to dance.

"No, no... we got along plenty fine. He just sorta... couldn't continue his journey, I guess." What had happened to that though? Honestly, Kristmar couldn't give the other an answer other that this seeing as he didn't even know for certain himself what'd happened to Niklaus. Everything had been going fine, or so he thought, and although they got on each other's nerves (or at least Nikkie getting on Kris' though), they didn't really have any problems or unresolved matters to address. It was odd how Niklaus just sort of... upped and left one day with a rushed explanation or excuse. It'd been... quite disheartening. Kris had thought they'd at least reach their first contest together before each of them went their own way but... it seemed like they hadn't even completed the first gym together.
Vaguely, Kris listened to how the music sailing in from the main gala floor slowed down to a much more steady beat. It was a rich melody, embellished beautifully, with a slow tempo that'd be easy to dance to.
"Hmm?" The blonde hummed with his lips on the brim of his glass flute, his attention drawn back to Kurayami as he finally moved from his precarious perch on the balustrade. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched how the lean man inclined his body politely with... a petition that Kris hadn't been expecting at all.
D-Dance? He wanted to dance?
Kris gave a tight-lipped and quiet cough as his head snapped around, the guy's request catching him mid-swallow and very nearly making him splutter slightly. The blonde's eyes widened as they eyed the hand that was offered up to him and, weakly, he gave a scratchy chuckle. What was Yami asking? They couldn't dance here. Alone. On the balcony. That'd look... so... Kris squinted and swallowed, putting it down to the amount of drink he'd steadily imbibed over the course of the night how his face felt a fair few degrees warmer.
"Stop playin' around, Yami," Kris muttered to him, hiding himself in his glass while he regained a firmer hold on his composure, indulging in the last dregs as a means to dampen the flare of nerves that'd bloomed in his chest. It'd been a while since... anyone had asked him to dance though. Or at least asked anything like this of him. Even if he couldn't tell if the dark-haired male was serious or not yet. He pursed his lips regardless and jerked his chin away. "We came out to just get fresh air anyway."

i wake at the first cringe of morning
and my heart's already sinned
Yami preened at the reaction he acquired from the blonde, enjoying having caught Kristmar off guard as he watched the other male attempt to gain his composure once more. The blond was certainly managing to make this night interesting and a part of him was still having problems coming to terms with the fact that yes, he was being abnormally open and playful with someone he didn’t know all that well. However, he couldn’t necessarily bring himself to care just yet, too curious with where this night would go and just how many of those drinks Kristmar could drink by the end of the night. Part of him wondered what was making him drink so many in the first place. Yami felt his eyebrow quirk as he gave the blonde a long look, unsure if Kristmar should really drink so many or so quickly.
His focus returned completely on to what the older male was saying and he faltered for only a moment before pulling himself together. Smirking slightly he took a step closer, just barely letting his hand rest on the back of Kristmar’s arm as he murmured. “True we did but I’m not playing.” His head tilted the slightest and he gave Kristmar another long look, assessing the slightly shorter male before gently placing a bit more pressure to his arm to get him to turn. “Dance with me, Kris.” This time instead of the questioning tone behind the words, there was a more soothing but insisting tone. His accent lilting just the slightest as it dropped a few octaves, still watching Kristmar closely. A small squirming making itself known in his stomach as he once again said ‘Kris’ instead of Kristmar. It was strange to suddenly switch to the nickname after using Kristmar’s full name for so long.
The brunette carefully slid his hand down and allowed his finger’s to encircle Kristmar’s wrist and pulled a bit more insistently. “We’re at a Gala, surrounded by nice music and drinking…No one is watching so there’s no need to be embarrassed. Just one dance can’t hurt…” As he spoke his tone was calm and matter of fact although his gunmetal gaze danced merrily as he attempted to tug Kristmar more and more towards the middle of the balcony along with him. After a moment he paused and reached for Kristmar’s glass to put it somewhere, it wouldn’t be in the way. All the while not taking his eyes off of the blonde and trying to reassure that there was nothing wrong with what was happening…because there wasn’t. They were simply two friends who—at least he did—wanted to dance. “Humor me…”

There went Kurayami again... brazenly trepassing into his personal space. The hand on the back of his arm, the one that he could feel subtly trying to encourage him to turn, wasn't too bad, he supposed; it was easily disregarded. But this guy was pretty insistent, wasn't he? Most people would've taken Kris' reaction as a big hint that the idea of dancing didn't appeal to him too much. Kurayami seemed like it just spurred him on to be more determined.
"Yami.." Kris murmured or, better said, sighed with slight exasperation, his eyes sliding shut for a moment. It'd feel rude to outright turn him down in a more blunt fashion but he just wasn't in the mood to dance. The blonde was in better spirits than he was after some casual banter and some company to drink with but not enough to---
A jittery thrill ran down the course of Kris' arm as the other man's hand slid down the length of it, coming to rest at his wrist which he ended up grasping. His fingers twitched with the fleeting urge to snatch back his hand and whip around to face away from him again so he could conceal his darkening flush. Kurayami was acting far too familiar with his person but... what was up with him tonight though? This wasn't anything too extreme yet, here he was, steadily being turned into a quietly flustered mess by some audacious teenager.
"Embarrassed?" Kris echoed, his sharp cerise eyes watching him searchingly. "I'm not embarrassed." A lie, yes, but as if he were to admit to something like that to someone so.... bothersome. The blonde gave a defiant snort as his mostly empty glass was taken from him and pulled his shoulders back a little stiffly, reluctantly allowing himself to be coaxed away from the stone balustrade.
Alright. Alright, then. Just one dance. It wouldn't hurt. Plus the lighting out here wasn't the best; no one was really watching.
"Fine, I'll humour you," Kris drawled, glancing off to the side once they'd walked a few steps. "That is, if you even know how to dance."
Sharp amusement filtered into his mind at the slightly older male echoing his words and denying being embarrassed, having expected it now. However, instead of letting the amusement show he merely dipped his head slightly with a still patient look as he allowed Kristmar to look over him searchingly. A small part of him was thrilled that the blonde seemed to be becoming more receptive to the idea, granted he had to continue coaxing him a bit but spoke up nonetheless. “Alright…fine. You’re not embarrassed, my mistake. All the same, there’s nothing wrong with two friends dancing.” His head cocked to the side just the slightest, causing strands of raven colored hair to fall into his face a bit. “Do you consider me one? A friend, that is.” He paused in his coaxing to consider his question and actions, categorized the still rather bold feeling to continue even if the other still didn’t see him as a friend yet before deciding to continue. If he was going to damage the fragile beginnings of their friendship or whatever it was, he’d have done it already the moment he’d started becoming familiar with the blonde so he might as well continue on.
A relaxed almost lazy smile curled Yami’s lips at Kristmar’s straightened back and defiant snort, not bothering to pay too much attention to it. The blonde was allowing himself to be coaxed and herded, he hadn’t made any other protests so the brunette was going to take that as a good sign and roll with it for as long as he could before Kris pulled away from him.
When he finally spoke up to agree, reluctantly no doubt, to dance with him. Yami couldn’t help the warm smile that curled his lips and he hummed softly but happily, chuckling lightly at the jab made at his dancing skills. However, he didn’t rise to the bait other than to say simply, “I guess we’re just going to have to see how well I can dance then, aren’t we?” There was a playful lilt to his tone as he glanced at Kristmar with an indulgent look, his lips quirking just the slightest as he watched the blonde for a moment before tugging lightly to pull him closer. Easily he brought one of Kris’ hands to his shoulder before laying his own hand on his waist and held Kristmar’s other hand in his. “Now just relax and hopefully this won’t be a disaster…or awkward. It’s been a while since I danced to sophisticated music.” The few times he got invited to perform for gala’s as well as ballrooms was far and few inbetween with him usually having one dance before escaping the stuffy atmosphere.
However, he had enough confidence in himself to know he wasn’t completely terrible at dancing and decent if nothing else. So after a moment waiting for the count to start up again he began to move, carefully leading the blonde and being wary of where their feet were before he spoke up. “There now, this isn’t so bad.”
Machiko glanced up for a moment and watched the human dancing with her trainer for a moment, tail swishing lazily as she studied the scene they made before her eyes narrowed just a fraction. She’s have to be telling Sei about this latest development once this was all over with. She wasn’t quite sure what was going on here but the feline pokemon was sure she wasn’t exactly willing to encourage it…especially if it meant they were going to have to share Yami with this blonde haired human. It was bad enough they had to share him with all the other pokemon he decided to add to their group. With that thought in mind, the little feline curled back up and sighed softly as she got comfortable once more.
