Perhaps she was rushing this battle but the green haired trainer saw no reason for her not to do so. With her latest accomplishments and her pokemon at her belt, the confidence boost she had was ever so high. Anything to push her mind off of the past current events that plagued her social life. Luckily this gym battle was one that she was somewhat more prepared for than the others. She knew what three pokemon she wanted to bring along with her and researched rock type pokemon briefly before arriving to Rustboro for this challenge.
Taking a breath Syndra knocked on the door then walked into the gym. Again the gym was much different from the other gyms she had visited as her eyes glided over the furniture within the room. "Hello?" she would call out loud to get the attention of whoever was in the gym if anyone. It wasn't in a yelling manner but loud enough to carry her voice. "I'm here to challenge the gym please."
from the rocky depths of the gym roxanne steps forward. she's an honors student by heart, and eager to learn. with this ambition she climbed her way up to the gym leader position she has now. with a glint in her eyes she stares at her challenger.
"welcome to the gym. hope i learn something from this." she says with a glint in her eye before throwing a pokeball.
"you get the first move."
geodude♂ - level 019- study moveset: tackle, defense curl, rock throw, rock polish, rollout, magniture
Syndra took a breath as she watched the gym leader step forward. A female gym leader was a nice change of pace from the past gym leaders she took on. Respectable in the way the leader spoke, the green haired girl smiled. "Thank you for accepting. I'm sure I'll learn something from this battle too." The first pokemon that was sent out was a fairly common one. It should have been expected. Deciding she wanted to make a good impression and take on the gym with a storm, the trainer reached on her belt to throw out her first pokemon. The faithful grass turtle appeared and gave a hearty cry into the arena as he knew this was to be a battle. It had been awhile since the pokemon fought so he was eager to do so. "Let's start strong. Use Razor Leaf to flank and surround the geodude." Another cry formed as the grass type shook his back to rustle some loose leaves down to float downwards at his side. In a split second those placid leaves halted and shot like small green throwing blades at the rock type.
Roxanne's eyes widened as the green haired girl sent out a Grotle, this was her first time seeing one in person! She was more then a little bit intrigued at the site of the grass turtle pokemon. As well as the intrigue she felt she also felt a slight ting of panic, knowing that a grass type could easily do in most of her pokemon with its supper effective blows.
Nonetheless she couldn't let that get to her now! This was a perfect chance to study a rare pokemon up close and see what it was really capable of, the idea of it was actually starting to get a bit thrilling for her!
"Dodge it Geodude!" Roxanne called out as the onslaught of Razor Leaf's began, Geodude managing to jump out of the way of the first attack. Only to get caught head on with the second. While the super effective move from a pokemon that stronger then Geodude should of been more then enough to knock him out Geodude hung in there thanks to his sturdy ability!
Sturdy of course preventing Geodude from fainting off of one attack! Which was also a big reason in her picking of this specific Geodude for her gym team. "Alright Geodude, Lets try to damage it before it attacks again! Rock Throw twice!" The Gym Leader called out, pointing forward at the Grotle with an upturned palm. The Geodude responding by starting to use his Rock throw attack, twice in total, just as the Gym Leader commanded of it.
geodude♂ - level 019- sturdy moveset: tackle, defense curl, rock throw, rock polish, rollout, magnitude
geodude used rock throw x2! geodude is badly damaged! geodude hung on with sturdy! used dodge for first razor leaf (1/2)
It was more effective than Syndra thought it would be. The leaves seemed to do major damage to the rock type but to her dismay it had not fainted yet. "Sturdy... right," she murmured under her breath as the gym leader ordered her own moves. Rocks were being chucked at the grass type and for the most part the turtle took the full brunt of it. He wasn't too bothered by the physical attack as he just winced lightly as some of the rocks pelted him. Not too concerned Syndra's eyes went to the rock type. With some luck hopefully this meant that the geodude now didn't have much energy left. This meant that even a small tap would cause it to faint hopefully. "Use Absorb." This time the leaves on the turtle's back began to glow as they began draining the nearby energy from its target. If the first was avoided the second would hit its mark for sure.
And down goes Geodude! The Absorb attack managing to connect before he even have a chance to dodge it. Once Geodude fainted Roxanne would quickly return it, tossing out her next pokemon then. That pokemon of course being her Lileep! Who appeared from the pokeball in a flash of white light.
"Revived this one right here in Rustboro!" The Gym Leader called out cheerfully with a nod of her head. "Be careful Lileep, this ones pretty strong. So start off with Ingrain and then Acid!" She added, giving Lileep her instructions.
Which Lileep followed through with, growing roots throughout the gym floor, the roots healing him a bit at the end of each turn. Once the roots were there and he was firmly rooted in place Lileep would fling his head forward, sending a ball of acid at the Grotle!
lileep♂ - level 020- suction cups moveset: astonish, constrict, acid, ingrain, confuse ray, ancient power
lileep used ingrain! lileep used acid! (10% chance of lowering special defense one stage) lileep healed at the end of the turn thanks to ingrain!
This was a weird pokemon that was for sure. Grotle didn't appear too concerned with it as he stomped his feet in preparation. The gym leader bragged about her fossil pokemon which didn't much faze Syndra but the other also wasted no time in starting the attacks. The first attack call didn't bother her but the second had. "Acid?" she repeated the move as the Lileep was taking root into the ground. When the poisonous glob was flung however Grotle was hit and cried out in pain. The leaves on his back began to wither and at that the trainer didn't want to keep Grotle out any longer. "Return," Syndra called out as she thrusted her pokeball forward to recall her pokemon. The trouble was now that she didn't know who to use.
Thankfully due to ingrain and knowing this was a rock gym, Syndra had some inkling of what to do. Taking out her next pokeball she chucked it out forward. In a flash of light her second pokemon appeared with an offhanded cry. The quill pokemon looked about however laying her eyes on the opponent had the Sandslash more interested this time around being called out which was good for Syndra. "Alright its roots are stuck in the ground. Use Crush Claw then Fury Cutter" This way she could test the two moves and see how the Lileep reacted to them. With some hope the Crush claw would lower the defenses for Fury attack to do more damage ideally. With newfound energy the ground type sped forward into the Lileep's face to bring down her sharp right claw into its dark face. Her other claw was positioned downwards to jab at the stem of the flower looking pokemon.
Sandslash, ground-type (sand rush) Level 24
Grotle took Acid and was recalled. Sandslash took his place and used Crush Claw and then Fury Cutter.
Roxanne would nod her head as the Sandslash came out, a bit disappointed that Grotle had went away. Sandslash and Sandshrew were relatively common pokemon, she already had seen a few of those in her time. Grotle however was still new to her and the thought of battling it excited her. "Get ready Lileep.." Roxanne called out as the Sandslash charged in for its attacks.
The Crush Claw would hit its target perfectly, lowering Lileep's defense on impact as well as doing some decent damage. "Now Lileep!" Roxanne called out as Sandslash began to use the Fury Cutter attack. Roxanne's shouting causing Lileep to twist and turn, maneuvering so that the Fury Cutter would go part his body. Still rooted into the ground with Ingrain her dodging was limited to twisting and turning, something they already had plenty of practice with.
"Alrighty, Lileep use acid some more!" She called out once again, giving Lileep the same battle orders as the last round. Well almost the same, two acids now instead of an ingrain. With a quick wiggle around in response Lileep would fling her head forward, firing out two balls of acid at the Sandslash.
lileep♂ - level 020- suction cups moveset: astonish, constrict, acid, ingrain, confuse ray, ancient power
lileep used acid x2! (10% chance of lowering special defense one stage) lileep healed at the end of the turn thanks to ingrain! decently hurt defense -1 dodged fury cutter (1/2)
The acid attacks hit true on the ground type who felt the discomforting gunk on his body after his Fury Cutter attack missed. It didn't seem to affect her in the slightest however as she easily shrugged off the sensation, albeit her guard was somewhat lowered in the exchange. The trainer watched as the strange plant nimbly evaded the aim at the thin stem. Probably wasn't the best target but she was impressed with its proficiency at dodging without moving its base. It had to grow tired soon on the other hand and that was what the girl was counting on. "Don't let up. Cut it down."
Surprisingly to her the Sandslash had no qualms as she brandished her claws together. In close quarters with an immobile target, it was the perfect punching bag for the aggressive pokemon as she slashed her claws one after the other to hurt the Lileep. Hopefully if both hit then the momentum of the first would power up the second hit.
Sandslash, ground-type (sand rush) Level 24
Sandslash took Acid x2 and his SPD was lowered one stage. Sandslash used Fury Cutter x2
Once Sandslash went in for the Fury Cutters again the first one would hit its mark, damaging Lileep even more. However once the second one came in Lileep would once again dodge it, in the same way as the last fury cutter, by twisting and turning out of the way.
"Keep it up Lileep you're doing great! Use Ancient Power this time!" Roxanne called out, Lileep nodding in response. Only to then launch two Ancient Power attacks at Sandslash, striking at it with a prehistoric power.
lileep♂ - level 020- suction cups moveset: astonish, constrict, acid, ingrain, confuse ray, ancient power
lileep used ancient power x2! (10% chance of raising all stats. Rolled 27/100 and 85/100. 1-10 making the stats go up.) lileep healed at the end of the turn thanks to ingrain! pretty hurt defense -1 dodged fury cutter (2/2)
"Sandslash!" Syndra called out as large rocks began forming aiming for the ground type. While this was meant to warn her of the attack to dodge it, instead the arrogant pokemon took the attack straight on. By the end of it the attack left a small bruise that the pokemon overpowered by sheer will. Luckily the attacks so far were all things that the ground type resisted so the trainer didn't feel too uneasy with that. With her claws outstretched once more she tried another succession of Fury Cutter, the bug type move once again diving at the opponent. Instead of the stem however she went for the face like it had become a target.
Sandslash, ground-type (sand rush) Level 24
Sandslash took Ancient Power x2. Sandslash used Fury Cutter x2
This post feels bad so I'm sorry. It's a gym post though so less sorry.
Once Sandslash came in for this next set of fury cutter attacks Lileep would try to get out of the way, but was unable to for once and took the first attack head on. That first Fury Cutter disorienting him a bit, allowing the second one to hit him as well. The second one being strong enough to knock him out! Lileep simply fell backwards onto his back after the impact, the roots slowly beginning to disappear as Roxanne recalled the fossil pokemon.
"You did good Lileep!" She said cheerfully to the pokeball the Lileep was in, only to then toss out her final pokemon. that pokemon being her Nosepass! Having noticed the attacks Sandslash was shrugging off Roxanne would of began to notice it's resistances. Nowing fully well that Nosepass only had one move that would do some decent damage to it.
With that in mind she'd call out "Alright Nosepass, Tackle it!" Which caused the Nosepass to move forward at the Sandslash as fast as she could, trying to tackle it twice.
nosepass♀ - level 022- sturdy moveset: tackle, rock throw, thunder wave, rest, spark, rock slide
Sandslash's attacks hit their mark and in some ways Syndra was relieved. That pokemon truly was overconfident and proud of her own power. For a moment she thought about switching her pokemon out back to Grotle though the appearance of the next pokemon stopped her. That was the iconic pokemon of this gym and if she recalled it could know some electric moves. Deciding against making the decision herself she let her pokemon decide. "Sandslash do you want to keep going?" The response she got was a cry of the ground type's name as the pokemon brandished her claws once more with her confidence showing through. With a sideways smile the green haired trainer nodded. She didn't see this ending badly.
Roxanne wasted no time so neither did she in trying to command her Sandslash. "Dodge what you can and then use Magnitude!" The rock type appeared before the ground type faster than anticipated and so it was inevitable that the Sandslash would get it and knocked backwards. She planted her feet on the ground so she ended up skidding a good distance on the field. The next follow up attack had the ground type side step away to evade effortlessly in a manner that looked as if she was trying to adapt to what the Lileep had done. Two stomps to the floor reverberated through the ground as the two Magnitudes were sent through the gym back to back.
Sandslash, ground-type (sand rush) Level 26
Sandslash took Tackle and dodged the second. Sandslash used Magnitude x2
I'll let you roll for Magnitude if you'd like for fairness
It seemed like the green haired girl had an answer for all of Roxanne's pokemon, Magnitude of course being super effective against Nosepass. Luckily enough Nosepass was able to jump in the air, avoiding one Magnitude attack, only to get hit with the second attack as soon as she touched the ground.
"Oh no, get up Nosepass!" Roxanne called out, afraid of how much damage Nosepass could of potentially taken from the Magnitude attack. Only for Nosepass to struggle back up to her feet shortly after that. "Phew, okay Nosepass, tackle some more!"
With those instructions Nosepass would go in for two more tackle attacks, tackle of course being the only attack that she knew that the Sandslash didn't have a resistance too.
nosepass♀ - level 022- sturdy moveset: tackle, rock throw, thunder wave, rest, spark, rock slide
nosepass used tackle x2! hurt a good amount dodged magnitude (1/2) (Rolled two sevens for Sandslash's Magnitudes)
In some ways the calls were shocking. Perhaps Syndra expected some other attacks but the persistence on the tackles led her to believe that the Nosepass didn't have anything else against her Sandslash. It was chipping away at the ground type's health one way or another but she wanted to try to end this here and now. "Stand your ground!" Sandslash had no qualms with this as she eagerly planted her feet to brace for the attack this time. Twice did the hard body knock against the quill pokemon who winced as the impact continued to chip away at her health. If this kept up it wouldn't be long until Sandslash truly lost and fainted. The cocky pokemon couldn't have that.
Giving a sort of battle cry Syndra nodded. Finishing in one go and not dragging it out was the plan here. "Try using Magnitude twice again." Stomping her feet twice over, the Sandslash sent the shaking through the ground with the energy her lower legs could muster up.
