andrea released an airy laugh, the amused noise slipping past her lips as her scraggy scowled in her direction.
"sorry about that, johnny. yer just so cute sometimes. ya know that?"
waving a dismissive paw, the pokemon continued to trot onwards. his grip on his loose skin tightening somewhat to prevent his coordinator from causing it to slip in anyway. she was a silly human. but, she had managed to earn his affection despite it all. especially since she eagerly catered to his love for technology.
"this place still looks the same," andrea mulled. "nothin' happens much 'round here. does it?"
"scrag."
the wind picked up as they walked.
"smells like rain," she said. "kinda gettin' dark, too. let's pick it up a bit."
their pacing increased with johnny glancing upward to note that a few dark clouds were beginning to gather high above. the pair had no intention of being stuck out in bad weather, at all.
"we should reach odale in an hour. i think," andrea muttered.

[break] What a terrible place this was. Vivi hated it. First, there was nothing here; small town after smaller town connected by bland routes with no interesting people or things to do. Next, someone had insulted her appearance--and let me inform you, Vivi looked fucking adorable today. Now, after trudging along on this blasted route all damn day, nighttime was on her heels and she hadn't reached Oldale. How long would this take? Just to spite her the forces of nature themselves were coming out to worsen this already horrendous day with thi=e threat of rain. [break][break] Wallowing in her frustration, Vivi looked about to murder the next living thing she came across. "You can say that again." The remarks about the quiet life here couldn't be more accurate. Vivi had caught up with someone heading in the same direction as her. It was all she could do to temper her show of emotions. Any facade would be impossible with the mood she was in, but hopefully she would be able to refrain from snapping at the girl. A little runt of a Pokemon was with her and Vivi glared at it as she passed, not really intending to keep pace. She had been going faster than the other and hadn't slowed in the least. both coordinator and pokemon took notice to the glare that had been cast in their general direction. had it been directed solely toward andrea, she would have reacted with a simple sneer. but, instead, the stranger had decided to turn her attention toward johnny.
"yo," andrea said.
she kept her pace steady, trailing behind the woman with the simple intention of reaching the next town over. but, while they were within hearing range, the black-haired girl would voice her displeasure.
"i'd suggest ya not look at johnny that way. ya got me?"
her tone left no real room for argument - yet, andrea was left with the impression that the woman wouldn't allow her to get away with saying even that much. there was something about this stranger's posture and facial features that oozed dominance.
an alpha female.
the girl snorted, and glanced in johnny's direction.
"scrag," the pokemon rasped.
he appeared wholly nonchalant, his gaze having shifted toward the unfamiliar woman before he merely shrugged. the scraggy wasn't one to waste his time and would prefer that andrea not waste hers.
[break] Vivi ran a hand through her thick, red hair at the veiled threat. Was her trip seriously being interrupted again? All Vivi wanted to do was get to Oldale, sleep for the night, and get back on the road the next day. But no. Vivi would not tolerate someone telling how she should act--at least not with some tramp and her ugly Pokemon in the middle of nowhere. Someone who deserved her respect would have it. Well, at least Vivi would pretend to respect someone in a higher position than her. As it were, Vivi had no reason to believe this short little thing should be talking to her like that. [break][break] Turning around and stopping in her tracks, Vivi couldn't look more arrogant or displeased if she tried. First, she made it clear she wasn't used to being addressed in a tone like that, "Excuse me?" Then, an insult to that runt of a Pokemon was deserved, "Are you talking about that retched little thing following you around?" Vivi was bluffing, being far too aggressive when her Pokemon hadn't even been in a fight yet. How was she supposed to back up her words? She could handle herself, but her Pokemon? Unless this trainer was just as inexperienced as she was, it was unlikely she would win any confrontation. Nonetheless, her hand itched to grab a pokeball, ready to throw down if necessary. "i'd suggest ya be careful with that shit yer spewin' over there."
surprisingly enough, andrea maintained some semblance of calm. yet it was beginning to bubble straight to surface as the woman continued to insult her belovwed scraggy. if she was a freshie, she would have jumped on this opportunity to tussle. but her past losses had taught her some form of humility and even patience. she had discussed how she would carry herself with a few of her trusted allies in length - and quickly realized, as their plans developed, that she was expected to become a more competent woman.
"scrag - scaggy," johnny rasped, replying to the woman with a stoic expression.
though the humans could not understand him, his tone was all-too clear. obviously he still had no fucks to give about the redhead.
"ya know what? ya wanna talk about my pokemon? how about ya show me yers? this 'retched little thing' ain't 'fraid ta show ya what he's got."

[break] That sort of humility was not present in Vivi. She made it so that she rarely lost--or at least showed the arrogance to pretend such. Any failure in her past had simply been a sign she needed to try harder, an obstacle she needed to break. It was a way to grow, but Vivi never caught on to this idea of 'humility'. If you expect to lose, you already have; if you don't make it seem like you're better than something, how can you be? [break][break] "I'd be all too happy to oblige." Vivi gave a dramatic half-bow and stepped back to throw up a pokeball. A Misdreavus came spiraling down, clearly making an effort to look pretty. It glared at the Scraggy in much the same way Vivi had. "Meet Nightshade. That runt doesn't stand a chance." Vivi couldn't afford at this point to think about how weak her Pokemon truly was. If she didn't give the imminent battle her all, she had no chance of winning--not to say she had much of one in the first place. Her only prospect was to hurt the Scraggy with some effective and precise moves. [break][break][break]

andrea eyed the ghost-type, her mind working at a hurried pace as she considered how johnny could possibly take it out. he was a dark-type and also a fighting-type - an honest to good mix in her general opinion.
"a misdreavus," the coordinator grunted. "i got one myself."
with a small nod of her head, she looked to a jaded scraggy whose pinprick eyes slowly shifted until it clashed with the human's gaze.
"scrag, scraggy," he muttered.
"yo, johnny," she crooned. "c'mon, boy. this shit'll be a walk in the park fer ya. don't ya wanna pro -"
"scrag," he said, abruptly cutting her off.
the girl's eyebrow twitched.
"how 'bout this. i'll hand off my phone ta ya fer the rest of the day if ya go through with this."
his expression did not waver.
"please, baby?"
with a small shrug, the pokemon complied, stepping up to face the glaring ghost.
"use yer dark-type moves fer this one! imma leave it up ta ya!"
once he was allowed to do whatever he wished, the lizard eyed the ghost-type before suddenly lunging forward. he aimed a paw toward the pretty creature, intending to start off with a simple feint attack before a dark energy collected in front of his exposed teeth and he fired off the potent attack.

[break] She was... Holding a conversation with her Pokemon. It was such an odd conversation, too. The Scraggy clearly didn't listen well to its trainer, and all this chick seemed to do was indulge it. How unprofessional. Vivi didn't want to spend a minute longer with this girl than she had to, but all she could do was watch as she crooned at the ugly little thing to get it to battle. [break][break] Once the battle finally started, Vivi didn't get much of a chance to do anything. She hadn't really had much (read: any) practice with pokebattles, so it seemed her reflexes weren't where she'd like them to be. Before she could even get in a command to her Misdreavus, the poor thing had been bombarded by moves too strong for it. Nightshade had fainted in the first round! It looked like Vivi hadn't stood a chance with this to begin with. She stared on in horror as her Pokemon floated to the ground with a resonating cry. [break][break] How embarrassing! Vivi was sure she would at least be able to knock this arrogant girl down a peg, but the fight was over almost before it started! Once the shock and humiliation subsided--or, rather, once Vivi was able to shove it down enough--she returned Nightshade and glared up at her opponent. If Vivi had been irritated before, she was pissed now. Unfortunately, it looked like all that rage was impotent. [break][break] However weak Vivi truly was, she wouldn't stop trying: "You think that's all? Let's keep this going!" Vivi threw down a pokeball, a Magby springing from it. It didn't look any more powerful than her first Pokemon, and Vivi was visibly losing her cool. She really didn't like losing. [break][break][break]

the lizard retreated a step once the ghost-type had fallen, a stoic look revealing that he had barely received any amount of satisfaction from the battle's results. he turned his head to look at his mistress, moments from gesturing that she hand over her phone when another pokemon popped out of its capsule to face him.
"holy shit. seriously?"
there was a sympathetic look on andrea's face once she realized that this woman was a relatively new to this. the red-head wouldn't be able to effectively back up her words with her own pokemon due to their inexperience.
"yer new at this game, aren't ya?"
"scrag," the pokemon muttered.
the question was likely trigger the woman's defense mechanism, but the coordinator wanted to receive some sort of reply. the fighting-type stepped forward, and andrea considered her options carefully. with the shake of her head, she offered her consent for scraggy to continue with the soft snap of her fingers.
"scrag."
the pokemon lunged forward, intending to pull off a headbutt - this was quickly followed by a dark pulse.
