His hands were jittery on the wheel of the car- fingers dancing around the cheap material with unexpected discomfort, as though the car itself was brand new. Everything was new, starting from today. Julius hadn't felt nervous in a good while, and that was just plain silly. It wasn't like he was on a date with any girl. It was Andrea he was talking about. She'd laugh if he told her his hands were shaking. They had been friends for a while, but this would make it official.
Julius blew air out of his mouth, shaking his head and pushing up his hipster glasses. He was ready for a good day out. At a restaurant. Ugh, this was wrong. Why was he getting jittery- it wasn't like this would be formal. But first dates were always the worst.
The old car rolled over to Andrea's house, and the windows rolled down as the vehicle came to a halt. He poked his head out, and dropped the remains of the cigarette on the ground. He waited for Andrea to come out of the house, and smiled over at her. "You need me to get out and gentleman you inside?" he asked, half teasing and half being serious.
it didn't take very long for andrea to get ready. with the help of her pokemon, she had managed to locate every article of clothing to her outfit and had successfully stuffed all that she needed to maintain both her face and hair in her purse. she had decided to go simple for this particular evening, donning a plain black dress and heels. her short hair was tied in a ponytail, and she smelled strongly of wild flowers due to her choice of perfume.
"he's here?"
one of her team alerted her that his car had rolled up, and she hurried to greet him after offering her companions a rushed goodbye. making sure she had her keys handy, the coordinator smiled brightly as he spoke, his tone laced with characteristic amusement.
"nah, i got it."
she entered the vehicle, an airy laugh escaping her.
"it's warm tonight," she said.
andrea moved to press her lips against his cheek in greeting.
"Hmm, yeah." He said, watching her as she climbed in, the black dress adorning her beautiful body. "That's what tends to happen in summer, you know?" he asked her, expecting a shove or pinch at his annoyingly sarcastic remark. Instead, what he received was a kiss- something he only saw coming because of the presence of the top mirror- He saw his face light up in surprised and cursed himself for not being aware of Andrea's scariest weapon: the fact that he was dangerously in love with her.
His top lip curled over the bottom, and he pressed his foot on the gas- maybe a little too harshly. "I'm pretty--" The vehicle lurches forward, and Julius had to mess around before he could calm it down, cursing under his breath.
"--fine, yeah." He laughed, mimicking her airy gesture from before. "Don't worry, I pretty sure I know how to drive this thing." The car rolled around, possibly cutting a few corners of the sidewalk in the process, and Julius winced each time his skills proved faulty.
"How about you?" he asked, trying to force the topic anywhere but on his mediocre at best driving skills.
andrea was in the process of reapplying her lip gloss after she had offered up the affectionate gesture. as the vehicle came to a sudden halt, she blinked up at him in surprise, having nearly dropped her tool. shaking her head in response to his behavior, she released an amused chuckle.
"yeah, sure," she replied, smoothly. "hopefully we aren't dead before we even reach the fuckin' restaurant."
she pursed her lips at her reflection, ensuring she maintained her appearance. all of this was for julius, of course. andrea intentionally dressed in a way that properly showcased her feminine attributes. she wanted the male to look at her - and for his gaze to linger and truly appreciate what she had to offer.
"i'm fine. i missed ya," she purred. "my career. yer career. there's been a lot more distance between us, yeah? ya know i still want ya ta move in with me, right?"
he was a trainer.
and her?
she was a coordinator.
they had to travel or move about frequently in order to garner an income for themselves. and the girl desired more than simple phone calls, texts and the occasional video chat. even with her pokemon's companionship she still felt somewhat... lonely.
"Not fair," Julius retorted, even though his bad driving had practically forced the cosmetic out of Andrea's hand. "As if I'd do something to put you in danger," he added, coyly, trying to slow himself down with the driving. It was difficult really, mainly because of how Andrea was dressed, and the fact that, at no matter what angle he looked, she seemed to be taking up all of the front mirror.
Her next words caused the mood to shift a bit, and now Julius was a little more serious. "I miss you too. Not like you're gone, but you're not...all there, you know." He didn't know what to say to her next suggestion- move in with Andrea? That would be a dream come true. But he doubted he knew the first thing about living together, and he'd screw it up just like his driving. And it was't like that would solve much- being a trainer in a relationship with a coordinator was not how the rom-com novels made it out to be.
He winced at another bump in the road, mind reeling to think of a way to slightly deter the conversation. He couldn't, and a little silence ensued between them, until finally the car stopped in front of a restaurant. At which point, of course, he had lightened up a bit, and he walked out of the door before Andrea, jogged quickly to her side of the car, and pulled her door open.
He then took her hand with a characteristic smirk, kissing it before saying, "Right this way my lady." Mostly, of course, just to see how she would react.
