hello calamity! we're nearing the two months mark in a few weeks. how time flies! right now we have two things going on that need your participation. the first is an activity check! it is impotant that you check in so you don't lose your face claim. the second is the otm nomiations! we're doing it a bit different than last time. so please submit your nominations in. a vote thread will be up in the next few days. there will also be a formal event coming very soon, so keep your eye out for that. keep being cool!
we're currently about to host calamity's first contest in slatepor. trainers are flocking to the city to see, the city's been trying to get good pr since the gala, and it seems to be working! they're asking for both coordinators and volunteer judges to sign up.

the route between mauville and slateport was, essentially, a peninsula. a thin road of unpaved land surrounded by pure, unadulterated ocean, with a giant bridge above. it's probably one of the most popular areas for fishermen, given that slateport's south beach has become somewhat touristy as of recently.
which, of course, made this route rather convenient for fidel bolivar, what with her recently evolved gyarados. at the moment, gyarados was slithering through the water while she meandered along the grass, still very giddy from the evolution.
the concept of looking cool was, apparently, very foreign to fidel. could be the way that she's been basically raised with the idea that she's going to lose every battle with a magikarp, but now? now, she's rocking a gyarados, who, in her eyes, was the coolest and best pokemon ever.
but even then... "we gotta catch more pokemon, gyarados." she decided. "i know it's SUPER COOL for you to evolve, and i'm really, really happy!" and so the girl started looking determined. "but that just means we gotta work harder to become stronger, right? and we need more friends to help out, got it?"
"gyaaaaaaarados." the naturally loud pokemon gave a low yet resounding roar as a yes. "right! let's do this, then." and with that, the rather diligent twelve-year old moved to find pokemon in the tall grass.
Within moments Sandslash would come flying out of Mauville city, running right from the city onto Route 110. Pierced on the end of Sandslash's right claw would be an apple, one that she had stolen from some random vendor near Mauville. She didn't think that she'd get away with it, or that the Vendor would leave his stall to chase her out of the city, but yet both things happened. Not paying any attention at all to where she was running, just trying to outrun the vendor who she left back in Mauville Sandslash would keep on running straight ahead. Looking back over her shoulder the whole time, not noticing the kid she was accidentally running at!
fidel saw the dashing sandslash coming from a mile away. right! this was her chance! she started backpedaling, thinking that the sandslash was going to come and attack her, being too far away to see that it's attention was elsewhere. meanwhile, gyarados just noticed the incoming ground-type, and promptly begun preparing for battle.
"there it is! gyarados, dragon ra-- WOAH!" suddenly, her pokemon picked her up from off the ground, slithering onto land from the ocean and nudging her on it's head with it's nose. while fidel started to regain a sitting position, the gyarados returned to partially submerge in the water.
and then, the gyarados fired. as it was, it's dragon rage was more like a fireball, or a cannon round. the draconic energy blast blasted from it's mouth, aiming for the sandslash. fidel latched onto gyarados harder; it turned out that dragon rages had recoil, and it's head shuddered at the shot.
gyarados fired again, and fidel closed her eyes. her entire body vibrated from the recoil, and she feared she was about to fall off. this type of power was unprecedented for her; she never experienced such strength before.
"woah... yeah, i could get used to this..." the twelve-year old sighed in bliss. power, as it seemed, was just so insatiably delicious to her, especially after being depraved from it ever since she started being a pokemon trainer.
Still not paying attention at all Sandslash would keep on running still not noticing the girl, or the Gyarados who had came onto the land. Sandslash especially didn't notice the dragon rage attack heading her way and would get hit head on with it, sent flying back a few feet from the impact. As soon as she hit the ground however Sandslash would start to roll out of the way, narrowly dodging the second Dragon Rage attack. With a sigh of relief Sandslash would hop up and turn around to face the Gyarados who had attacked her, ready to fight back! Without a moment's hesitation Sandslash would fire off not one but two Swift attacks at the Gyarados.

gyarados tanked the twin swifts fairly well, and they did fairly low damage. though stars pelted the atrocious pokemon's face, it kept a stoic expression. fidel, who peeked from gyarados' back to see what was happening, found the swifts to be quite pretty to look at. however, it was now the trainer's turn to fight back.
giving out a roar in response, gyarados begun it's counterattack by spitting a dragon rage at the sandslash. it seemed to be working, so why not? however, fidel saw a bit of a flaw in that plan. the sandslash would probably learn how to dodge the dragon rages, given enough time. right! time to switch it up.
"gyarados, use bite!" following it's orders, the serpent lunged onto land, it's full length exerting it's power to fly towards the sandslash. opening it's gaping jaw, it prepared to sink it's fangs into the ground-type, ready to chew into the hedgehog. "if you bite it, keep it in your mouth!" fidel said, coming up with another plan on the fly. if this connected...
As soon as the next Dragon Rage attack came Sandslash would jump off to the side, feeling the Dragon Rage attack rush on by her. "Saaaand!" Sandslash would yell out in excitement at the fact that she dodged the Gyarados' Dragon Rage. Only for her eyes to widen as she realized the giant Gyarados was charging at her, getting bit down on and held within the pokemon's powerful jaws a moment later. Panicking Sandslash would fire off two more swifts attack as she squirmed around in the Gyarados' Jaws, unable to use any other attack realistically while trapped.

the water pokemon felt the energy stars blast around in its mouth, and promptly responded by firing a dragon rage point blank while the pokemon was still in it's jaws. fidel felt the force of that one, given it was contained inside gyarados. "ooh! alright, plan b..."
tossing it into the water, which was her original plan, probably wasn't going to cut it. the dragon rage was probably doing wonders for that sandslash; her best bet would be to toss it onto the ground for one last blow. she didn't want to drown the poor thing, just knock it out.
"throw it in the ground, gyarados!" and so the pokemon obeyed, reeling back before flinging the sandslash onto the hard, cold ground. it's red eyes carefully watched the pokemon, ready to attack once more if there was still a fight. already, it was charging up a dragon rage in it's mouth. meanwhile, fidel fished out a pokeball from her pocket, ready to catch the sandslash when it finally fell.
"Slaaaaash!" Sandslash called out in despair as she was thrown to the ground by the large Gyarados. With a thud Sandslash would smack right into the ground, bouncing off of the ground. Before fainting, being completely knocked out on the ground now.

While the fight with the Sandslash was going on Skiddo would be hiding in the tall grass. Staring out as she watched everything going on, afraid out of her mind at the giant Gyarados. Once Sandslash bounced off the ground Skiddo would let out a shrill yelp, even more afraid now, but giving herself away. Knowing that she gave herself away Skiddo would only get more panicked and start to shake around in the grass, firing a Razor Leaf attack out of the grass towards the Gyarados in a panic!

fidel tossed the poke ball at the sandslash the best she could. she played a little baseball in fifth grade, so she should be able to get this... luckily, her rusty fifth grade baseball skills paid off and fidel caught the sandslash. gyarados lowered it's head, and she jumped off to grab the poke ball.
meanwhile, a few high-speed leaves had sliced into gyarados's crest on it's head, grazing it and not doing all that much damage. it's attention came towards where the leaves were coming from, and it roared a mighty roar towards the pokemon hidden in the grass.
fidel noticed it's attention. woah, another one came up quick! "right. gyarados, tackle to lunge in, then try to bite it and pick it up!" gyarados whipped it's body forwards, moving like a blue missile towards the skiddo. it then opened it's maw once more to envelop the grass type. maybe this time, fidel would be able to use her plan.

RUN! As soon as Skiddo noticed that Gyarados was coming at her she would start to run away, getting nailed in the back with the tackle attack and sent flying! After going a few feet skiddo would crash into the ground before she quickly hopped up and took off running again, this time managing to jump out of the way as Gyarados came in for a bite attack.
With a shiver Skiddo would start to absorb the sunlight, healing herself up. Haha she was smart! In celebration Skiddo would jump up a couple times, excited that she thought to heal herself. She was a bit too excited however, As she was jumping around she would once again let off another Razor Leaf attack at Gyarados, no longer that afraid!

the trainer frowned. gyarados was taking quite a few blows so far... she didn't want to risk too much here. right. well, this skiddo seems to like grass a lot, so it was probably a grass type. she knew dragon rage was called dragon rage, so it was probably a dragon-type move... but it was still kinda fire. and fire burns grass, even if it isn't necessarily a fire-type move.
"gyarados, start slithering towards it, keep using dragon rage!" she said after mulling it over. gyarados begun it's advance on the skiddo, flattening the foliage under it. it'd like nothing more than to defeat whatever kept shooting leaves at it.
as it snaked forward like a train, another blast of dragon's fire came flying. true to fidel's beliefs, the laws of physics were true, and the grass did scorch with blue flame as the fireball flew towards the skiddo. it then fired another shot, closer now, due to it's continuous movement.

Whooosh! As soon as the first Dragon Rage attack came roaring out of Gyarados' mouth Skiddo would of jumped into the air, allowing the flamey attack to pass right underneath her. However she wasn't as lucky for the second attack, getting hit with it as soon as she hit the ground. It hurt, it hurt a lot. For the moment she'd just lay there on the ground desperately taking in sunlight to heal herself with Synthesis again.

now fidel was getting impatient. why wasn't this skiddo going down yet?! these grass types must be made of some pretty solid stuff, or she wouldn't be grinding her teeth at the moment. either way, it was time for her to use her combo attack she was thinking of! "gyarados, you're close enough! tackle, then bite, AGAIN!"
gyarados once more did the maneuver, lunging at the skiddo again and trying to clamp the goat in it's jaws again. fidel fished out another poke ball, focusing on the fight between gyarados and skiddo. she'd have this pokemon as soon as her plan went through, she was sure of it!
her feet planted firmly on the ground, she waited to see the skiddo in gyarados's mouth. from there, she'd toss the goat into the ocean. er, those could swim, right? stuff like ponyta and tauros and skiddo? she thought they knew how to swim...
just in case, she'd have to be extra careful when she throws it in the water.

Run, run run run run run! All Skiddo could think as she saw the Gyarados coming was to run away! To just take off running and never stop, to get as far away as possible. But she couldn't move, her legs just wouldn't respond, she was paralyzed with fear. Soon the giant Gyarados would crash right into Skiddo, sending the little goat pokemon flying. Only for it to then get caught in the Gyarados' jaws. Even more afraid then she was before Skiddo would start crying as loud as she possible could, calling out her name as loud as she could as well. Truly terrified that she was going to get eaten or thrown somewhere else, she's only lived on this strip of land she didnt know anywhere else!

fidel freaked out when she heard the skiddo start crying in her pokemon's mouth. woah, was it really scared? man, now she just felt really bad! something was totally wrong with this situation, and she knew it. it was all sorts of inhumane to battle a pokemon when it was bawling it's eyes out like this! "hey, gyarados! er... hold off a bit, would you?"
man, she didn't want to throw it in the ocean anymore. it wasn't fun. nor did she want to catch it. it was obvious that this pokemon wasn't the battling type; sandslash was, which is why it was okay. but what if this skiddo just wanted to have a family and eat apples all day? well, she should at least make it faint. she still needed to toughen up as a trainer, after all.
"right! i got it. gyarados, come over here!" the gyarados slithered to fidel and lowered the skiddo for the girl to talk to it. "heya, i don't know if you understand me, but this'll all be over soon. i'm just gonna make you go to sleep. i have to, according to the rules." not really, but a white lie never hurt anyone. "it's kinda gonna hurt, so get ready!"
fidel tilted her head, and gyarados faced the tall grass. "dragon rage twice! make it quick and painless!" and so it fired one, two fireballs point blank. "alright. once you're done with that, just set it in a safe place near the grass. then we should be all good! no feeling bad today."
