welcome to calamity! we are an au pokemon site based in hoenn. we do not have canons so you can pick them as your fcs! we have a short one hundred word word count. and you get to also pick your own starter! calamity is going to focus on providing users with a good and stable plot line to follow. this helps each character progress and some might even have a play in affecting the plot! we hope you enjoy your time here and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

hello calamity! we're nearing the two months mark in a few weeks. how time flies! right now we have two things going on that need your participation. the first is an activity check! it is impotant that you check in so you don't lose your face claim. the second is the otm nomiations! we're doing it a bit different than last time. so please submit your nominations in. a vote thread will be up in the next few days. there will also be a formal event coming very soon, so keep your eye out for that. keep being cool!
we're currently about to host calamity's first contest in slatepor. trainers are flocking to the city to see, the city's been trying to get good pr since the gala, and it seems to be working! they're asking for both coordinators and volunteer judges to sign up.

Dmitri was lazing about on route 118, not quite sure where to wander off to next. I should wait around and see if Usa comes this way... I haven't even seen Risu in awhile! Dmitri quite missed their shenanigans.
He swiped through his cell, trying to find new updates on statuses; Nothing. It always irked him how his friends would hang with him almost nonstop, only to abruptly fall out of touch for days and sometimes weeks on end. It felt hurtful.
Dmitri was just off the path, laying on a small sloped hill and he was visible from the high road.
fidel sailed over the land as gyarados slithered forwards. she still had this egg she had no idea what to do with. was she supposed to sit on it? or maybe she should put it in gyarados's mouth, where it would be warm. wait... was a gyarados mouth even that warm? "hey, gyarados, is your mouth that warm?" gyarados gave an unknowing growl. so... it didn't know either. maybe different pokemon had different senses in different places, being different species, and gyarados just didn't have temperature receptors or something in it's mouth.
fidel was contemplating investigating when gyarados spotted a hill with a person on it and promptly stopped slithering. gyarados looked at fidel, who noticed the person; lately they've been having a surprising and frustrating losing streak, which has really been pissing fidel off. she's asked gyarados to avoid trainers because of it.
"yeah... yeah. just go to the guy, gyarados." her mood soured quickly, being reminded of the reason why her pokemon stopped. "if he's a trainer, whatever. we can try again, then." a bit less happier than she was, the gyarados slithered up the mountain, towards dmitri.
if he was a trainer and he challenged her, then fine, she'd battle. if he wasn't a trainer, or just didn't challenge her in general, then that was also good. she just wanted to try and get over her losing streak, or otherwise completely forget about it.

Everything was progressing just fine; the breeze was lukewarm, the air was crisp and arid, and the grass beneath him blanketed the soft earth and kept him cozy. Dmitri's wandering eyes kept swaying across the horizon, and he was forced to recognize a giant, monstrous serpent coming up towards him.
Yikes! His first instinct was to run, and he'd already quickly scrambled over and gotten on his feet before returning another look at the beast's atrocious head. That's when he noticed a petit lassie on its head just ahead of its dorsal fins. She sure looked high and mighty on that Gyarados.
He waved her down, but was a little timid about it; the pokemon loomed quite a few stories overhead, and it was easily the largest pokemon he'd ever seen. Its sheer mass awed and perplexed him; this thing comes from Magikarp?! He flipped his pokedex shut in disbelief. He looked to her then.
"Hey, I'm Dmitri! That's, uh, one impressive pokemon you've got there. Does it have a name?" His voice almost quivered at first, but he quickly regained his composure when his eyes left the beast and started focusing on the child.
"What brings you 'round here? I was just taking a moment to rest, myself. Training is exhausting work, am I right?" Dmitri hoped or rather surmised she would agree; this beast before him was surely one tough bastard.
hrm? oh, the guy waved her down. man, she could only hope he didn't want to battle. it'd still be kinda rude to not talk to him, so she wasn't gonna blalantly ignore him. she'll just be in a bad mood, is all! everyone has their bad days, so she'd have one today. she had a right to, fidel determined.
"er, nice to meet you dmitri. i'm fidel. gyarados is gyarados. i never really considered it giving a nickname..." her mind trailed off a bit. should she give gyarados a nickname? it seemed pretty happy with being called gyarados. she probably couldn't think of a cool name, either, so that's that. meanwhile, gyarados gave a low, earth-vibrating growl of introduction.
"oh, i was just heading over to the next town. i heard that it was really good for warming eggs up." she produced the treeko egg, showing it to the other trainer. there were hot springs in the other town, and she'd read in pamphlets that it was good for eggs. ...unless they mean boiled eggs? nah, that can't be it...
"yeah, training's way hard! gyarados was my starter; i raised it from a magikarp. you can imagine how that was." she sighed, giving a rather annoyed expression. an unexplainable heat begun to fill her head as her frustration became apparent. "you know, i thought that after evolving, we'd be way stronger, but we've just been keeping our losing streak. it's annoying!" fidel exclaimed that last part, and gyarados gave a huge roar in accordance.
fidel blinked before regarding gyarados with a drop of disapproval. she was used to the intimidating howl, but other people weren't. "we need to work on controlling your volume..."

"You know, I was the same way for awhile..." Dmitri could remember how every early confrontation with Sylvester resulted in one stunning defeat after another. It wasn't until quite recently he'd managed to break that trend and claim victory for himself.
"Gyarados is one tough bastard!" He frowned when it bellowed; the smell of fish breath was repulsive, but he didn't think Gyarados would take that the right way, and he didn't want to end up on its menu for dinner. He rubbed his chin, thinking.
"Practice makes progress. The only thing you can do is keep your chin up, and keep on battling!" He was trying to cheer her up, because it wasn't for quite some time that he'd managed to break his doubts about being a worthy trainer.
"Every loss needs to be a lesson learned, though, or you won't get anywhere." Things are always going to get worse before they get better. It wasn't something he liked to admit was true, but he regarded them highly. To Dmitri they were absolute, nothing could deny them.
"So Fidel, do you want to try your Gyarados against my pokemon?" He pulled up his shirt and revealed a few pokeballs strapped tightly against his side, all five decorating his otherwise plain garments. Dmitri wondered which of his pokemon would be best suited to the task, and which would at least give Fidel an even playing field to start.
fidel frowned and folded her arms as she listened to him, obviously not believing him. urgh, this stuff again? she'd heard this sort of encouragement from her teachers, her parents, everything. it was sort of stock, now. she'd learned that losing was a lesson, that much was true.
but did it ever come to the point where it was just obnoxious? that it felt like all those lessons were amounting to nothing? she could hear all the motivational speeches he had to offer, but in the end, the results were speaking for themselves. she was losing and learning lessons, and she kept battling and practicing. she'll give it more time before she starts to win, she guesses... "if you say so..."
in the meantime, the guy did exactly the opposite of what she wanted; a battle. at this point, she was so exasperated with the world that her answer did a complete 180 and became a sigh of gloomy acceptance. "you want to battle too? fine." fidel dismounted gyarados, landing on her feet. her legs were spread firmly and her arms were crossed strongly, giving a rather formidable stance to the tiny girl. this was made even more effective with the towering serpent behind her.
with a single blink, that eternal flame ignited in her eyes once more, if not a bit dimmer. "gyarados! let's beat the crap out of this guy!" she said as if it were some victorious battle cry, but one could taste the splash of despair behind it. gyarados let out another cry. it was angry, like all gyarados cries, but gyarados's hopelessness could be felt in waves. it seemed as though both trainer and pokemon were so very, very tired, despite their facades of strength.
"...or get close to it, at least..." [gyarados, level 23. intimidate. splash, tackle, bite, dragon rage.]
