hey guys!
so right now we're thinking about changing the linear routes to something a bit more free? there are both pros and cons of having them but we want to know what you think.
option 1: remove linear routes. this option allows characters to roam around more freely and also encourage more plots.
option 2: keep linear routes but put in a train system. your character can buy a train pass for 10pd and the train pass allows your character to travel wherever they want on the mainland. this excludes the islands (sootopolis, mossdeep, pacifidlog, ever grande). it's similar to removing linear routes but it gives an ic explanation on how they're moving around.
option 3: keep linear routes. keep it like it is now!
these are the three options for now but please post your suggestions below! we want to know what you guys want. also please vote in the poll!

I say we should go with Option 1. For Option 2 is money out of our pockets when we can simply or might as well just travel by foot to save money, thus leading us back to Option 3 LOL. And Option 3...well...you understand why I chose Option 1, lmao. But yeah, I say we should all go with Option 1.

No, I disagree. Removing linear routes just makes the whole concept of pokemon 'appearing' in the wild useless- If any and everyone can get their hands on any pokemon that appears anywhere in the routes, it will just make it less beneficial for the people who have managed to get very far within the routes. Non-linear routes would be chaotic, and anyway the use of HMS would be lessened.
Perhaps what we could do is Option 2, except cheaper or something? 10 PD sounds a bit too much for a single one-way travel ticket. Oorrr another alternative is to make a new, random location ("Hoenn Pub" XDD) within the Hoenn section of the board that acts as a...meeting point? Which anyone can access anytime regardless of their IC location. Or maybe multiple such locations? It works with either option 3 or option 2, allows for free plotting and casual interactions.
Idk, just my two cents. ;u;

I guess another option would be to block of certain areas and put a 'guard' pokemon like a snorlax or something. So that whoever has to go through a certain route would have to stay within the area until they defeat it, or if it moves away for special events. Dunno how useful that would be, other than for site wide plots, but it would be like a soft requirement for going to other places with potentially stronger pokemon.

Don't mind the linear route system. I won't mind whatever choice is made though.

I like the linear route system. It's kinda like playing Pokemon with everyone. =u= Like we're all on an adventure toward the same goal. I agree with Julius Kingston and Elijah Castaire. If members defeat roadblocks ICly, it'll still feel like Pokemon and it'll give them the option of either staying in the area or choosing to fight the roadblock to get to the next place. The roadblock's level could be specifically catered to your pokemon's level too, so no matter what, you'll always have a chance of beating it. If not that, lower the price for train tickets. Trains are good places for some IC interaction.

I like the linear route system as well. It adds progress to the rp instead of it just being a free for all. plus the requirements aren't that bad, it being one thread of any length. you could request a spawn, kill it, and be done.
In the interest of having plots between members, I totally agree with adding a liquid time area like "The Hoenn Pub" or something, (perhaps a town instead since tavern rp is old and dead) and even the train idea is appealing.

i'm personally in it for that real-life pokemon experience as a new trainer. i enjoy having to travel from point a to point b without cutting corners. but i wouldn't mind it if people could freely travel between previous areas that they've already covered since this is liquid time.
edit: either way, i know i'll probably be sticking with a linear system

i feel like removing linear routes would create a lot of chaos, and things might be confusing as to wild pokemon and things with such a large mix of strong & weak trainers in the same area, if that makes sense. i do like the train idea though, even as expensive as 10 PD each way is. sorry, i totally misunderstood haha, but maybe making it an expense each way, or raising the price of an all-access pass significantly (to the point where maybe extremely new characters couldn't afford it right off the bat) because the cost would give players an incentive to travel by foot in a linear fashion anyway to save money, while also providing another option if you really needed to get somewhere for plot or interaction reasons.i also like the idea Julius Kingston put forward about a location anyone can access without regards to where they are in the region

I like the linear system, all except for the unrealistic thing of everyone bunched up in the same area or challenge gyms in the exact same order. But maybe there could be a good mix of both? Maybe when you make a character you can start from any point on the map? For example if a trainer recieved a shuckle from their parents and are from Rustboro city, they wouldnt travel all the way to Littleroot town to start their journey?
So why don't we go for the best of both worlds where players can choose what place to start with and can then travel linearly to where ever they wish to go.
