It's still a few days before the event, and rather than wasting his days away waiting by his house, he's decided to give the beach a try. For once, he wasn't going to grouchy when it came to fun. It's wonderfully sunny, near perfect weather, just cloudy enough to not burn them all.
He can barely recall the last time he's gone for a swim. The sand and water inviting, despite the number of other people around, and his first step onto the beach feels warm on his bare feet. It almost feels nice, and at least people aren't trying to cajole him into conversation, not when they were too busy themselves. A reserved smile on his face, he places his towel by the far side of the beach, as far away as possible from the rest of the scrubs masses while still within the area.
After a quick thought, he dumps the rest of his things on top of the towel, releasing the pokemon he's brought along. Out comes the Honedge, Togekiss and Ponyta, all looking in confusion at their trainer.
"Rest day. No battles, no training. Someone has to look after my things though." He adds, removing and folding his shirt and placing it on the towel as well. His skin is much more scarred than one would think, little nicks and scratches all over, while his back is peppered with strangely clinical cuts. But even his own Pokemon can barely glance at the scars, as Elijah is quick to enter the water.
He hadn't had the foresight to bring swimwear to the region, but his blue boardshorts were his best bet. Farther and farther he walked, until his feet were barely touching the sea floor. He glances over towards his pokemon, just to make sure. Silva the Honedge had taken it upon himself to stay by his things, laying flat on the sand next to the towel, while Praline took to soaring the open skies, giving his large wings a great push for speed. Typical Rush, the Ponyta was running around, trampling through the sand like it was nothing, following Praline's shadow.
They were fine. He tells himself, the worry niggling at the back of his mind. Shaking his head, he took to swimming instead, minding himself to stay close enough to shore.
--- ALIVE AGAIN, ANOTHER DAY, I'M NOT AFRAID TO GET OVER ---
[attr="class","boneshatter3"]Wow, so this was the beach? It was everything Bunny imagined and then some. The sparkling, soft sand that made her feet tingle with warmth, the sun basking on her bare shoulders, and the sea was mirroring the bright blue sky. Her toes sunk into the sand and she wriggled them around, relishing in the foreign feeling. She wanted to do so many things all at once! Lie on a towel and bask in the sunlight, build a sand castle with her pokémon, and swim.
But, for the most part, the latter was taking up most of her attention.
As a Kalos native that lived in Lumiose, Bunny had never had many swimming experiences in anything besides a pool or a small pond. It was definitely one of her favorite things to do in the summer, but this... this was a whole other experience to take in, and she couldn't wait.
Bunny spread out her bright pink beach towel on the sand with her Dratini's help. She had bought it back in Kalos before she tavelled to Hoenn. It had multiple hearts and Kalos pokémon on it, including a Furfrou with a heart-themed cut, a Spritzee, a Slurpuff, and a Sylveon. She thought it was pretty cute.
Then she put down her bag of belongings and the five pokéballs that contained the remainder of her team. She released each of them, all at the same time.
"Okay guys, go have some fun! But could you do me a favor and look over my stuff for me while I swim?" All six of her pokémon nodded, and even though Bunny knew they were gonna go off and do their own thing, she trusted them to keep an eye on her things. As bunny began to undress, taking off her tank-top and shorts to reveal a cute one-piece swimsuit (also bought in Kalos), her pokémon scattered. Sherlock took to burying the lower half of his tiny seed body in the sand, Cheri right beside him and sunbathing in the light while humming a quiet tune. Dolly and Salem began to chase each other in circles around Andy, who was trying desperately to get some sleep. When Bunny finished, she could see the Mareep practically grumble at the Dedenne and Stunky to stop it, and when they didn't a small shockwave of sorts made them stop in their tracks. But only for a moment, cause a few seconds later they began again.
Giggling to herself, Bunny smoothed down her swimsuit and looked at Diana at her feet. The Dratini was looking up at her with wide, excited eyes. She wanted to get in the water, too!
The two of them approached the shoreline, stopping at where the sand became damp from the lapping reach of the waves. Bunny waited for a few seconds, and then the small wave hit her ankles, sending shivers up her spine. Diana squealed with joy as the water made its way against her sides, and shivered when it returned to the sea.
After only a couple more moments of soaking it in, Bunny began to practically sprint into the ocean, overwhelmed with delight. Eventually she was slowed to a heavy jog in the water, and she found herself appalled by how easily she was moved in the waves. Pools and ponds never had such a natural motion, and for some reason, it made her feel at ease.

He takes a break from swimming, the sea water actually starting to irritate his eyes. Just something he's forgotten, in the midst of the excitement of the beach. Wading back to the shore, he glances over the rest of the scape, noticing a rather large group of pokemon about as well. All rather juvenile, it looked as the though the pokemon were enjoying themselves, well except for the Mareep, no doubt the trainer would be nearby somewhere.
He spots her in the water, moving with the waves, Dratini floating along. Surprised, he drifts a little closer, letting the waves languidly push and pull him along.
Bunny. Somehow he couldn't forget the name, despite the many times he's forgotten others. It might have been because she had made quite an impression. A cute little girl, innocently so. Their brief meeting had been enough to tell him that she was shy, yet was so curious with the world. It had been a shame that he couldn't stay for longer, a rarity that he had been there for official business and time had run short on them.
But it seemed the fates had different ideas.
Swimming a little faster along, he places on his patented smile, vaguely wonders if she remembers him, before promptly thinking that it didn't matter. He'd simply re-introduce himself, no problem at all.
"Hey, Hey Bunny." He hollers, wading through the water, his blonde hair dripping and sticking up in places, wide smile on for the show. "It's Elijah, we met in Kalos." He supplies, in case she had forgotten. Met, talked, had a quick lunch before he went flying back to Johto, all the same story. It's a few easy steps until he's finally close enough to Bunny and the shore to stand.
"I see that you've gotten some friends along with you." He nods towards the crowd of pokemon on the beach, before shifting his attention to the Dratini. "And she looks lovely. May I?" He says, gesturing at Diana because when the hell was he going to have a chance to hold a Dratini ever again?
--- ALIVE AGAIN, ANOTHER DAY, I'M NOT AFRAID TO GET OVER ---
[attr="class","boneshatter3"]Bunny splashed around with her Dratini, the two of them covering each other with small waves of water at each other in a war of sorts. She was giggling loudly, as was Diana in her own sort of way. It was a sort of fun that they hadn't experienced yet, and with Diana's instinct to be in water and Bunny's love of swimming, it was just another way for them to bond.
It was such a freeing feeling. Bunny was so shell-shocked she couldn't even try to think of an explanation or a definition. Her best metaphor was seeing the bright summer sun for the first time through the leaves of a well-grown forest. Serenity and mystery, but the excitement of adventure. Every move of hers was that of pure, exhilarated joy. Bunny wasn't acting strategically anymore, but rather all on her own, without so much as a single thought enter her mind. It was freeing.
One of Diana's splashes hit Bunny smack in the face, and at first that's what she thought brought her back into reality. But then, after searching through her mind amongst the sound and bobbing of the persistent waves, she realized the real source of bringing her back to earth. Somebody was calling her name.
She turned a couple of times in search of the voice, and once she found it, she was dumbstruck. How did this guy know her name? Was he a friend of one of her friends? Family? Who was this— oh.
A ginormous blush raised to her cheeks and Bunny stopped resisting the waves. She dipped her head underwater only for a brief couple of seconds, but enough to regather herself. Why was he here? What sort of coincidence is this?
But once she resurfaced, she tried her best to play it off like it was a natural occurrence (even though it quite obviously wasn't). With a bright, wide smile, Bunny waved the man over. "Elijah! Long time no see!"
But oh Arceus. Why was he here? This wasn't good, not good at all — it was bringing back awful, cringe-worthy memories. Bunny had met him for only a short while — and by short, she meant really short. They met for lunch once, and soon afterwards Elijah had to leave for something relating to "business," whatever that was. She didn't even know the guy that well. But her young teenaged heart became obsessed. She convinced herself after he left that it was a date, cursed herself for never mentioning her number, and fawned over a man much, much older than herself when she was only about fifteen. Her crush lasted for months, and although she never mentioned it to anyone, it was always in her mind the half of the year after he left. She got over it, though, and looking back on it all she wanted to do was forget just how stupid and dumb the whole thing was. Luckily Elijah saw none of it, and it had been likely they were never going to see each other again, so it wasn't that big of a deal or that hard to forget. But now he was here, and the memories flooded back in like the waves of the sea. She was screwed.
"Oh, you don't have to remind me, I remember you!" Bunny said cheerily. Crap. "How could I forget, Mr. Big 'n' Bad, Mr. Richpants?" This was bad. This was very bad. She was going to lose her composure and it was all going to happen again and she. Was. Screwed.
Bunny attempted to cleverly avert her eyes, looking anywhere but at Elijah's toned features as he approached. She looked at the water, the horizon, the sky, the sand, her pokémon, anything. So long as he wasn't able to see her panic. Bunny nearly jumped when he mentioned her team, probably noticing her glancing at them out of nervousness, and nodded quickly with a flash of a smile to cover it up.
"Yep, sure did! What about you, got any pokémon for yourself or is this just another quick business trip?" She hoped so. The more she saw him, the more likely she was to fall back into the dark depths of a teenage crush. Ugh.
Diana swam up curiously to Bunny's side, and the girl pet her starter out of nervousness. The Dratini was nearly about to crawl up her trainer's arm when Elijah asked to hold her.
It surprised Bunny to a certain extent. "Um, sure." She lied. She did mind, she didn't want him getting close to anything she owned or any of her friends or anything in general. The farther away he was the better.
When Elijah picked up Diana, Bunny noticed how uncomfortable the pokémon looked in his arms. She didn't look like her usual cheery self, proud and content with being showered with compliments an affection. Instead she twitched and seemed like she cringed until eventually she wriggled out of the man's grasp and back into the water.
As Diana scurried behind Bunny, peeking around her thighs to look between her trainer and Elijah nervously, Bunny said, "Oh gosh, I'm sorry, she's not usually like that!"
Bunny didn't know if Diana sensed her discomfort or if something else was afoot, but either way she was eternally grateful.

"Mr. Richpants? Is that how you remember me?" He laughs. Now that sounded ridiculous, and he hopes that it's all in good jest. Mr. Big and Bad didn't sound all too reassuring either, but he let it go quickly enough. He might have picked up on the fact that she was crushing a little on him back then, though had done nothing to really dissuade it. It was all in good fun, she was smiling far too much for it to be normal, though it was apparent that she tried her best to be cheerful. Age difference aside, he didn't see the harm with indulging her with attention. "You still look as lovely as ever."
The fact that she was seemed to squirrelly right now might have given him an idea or two, but he enjoys seeing her pander around nonetheless, a grin on his face as she looks everywhere else but at him. She was so cute, trying to dither about the conversation, keeping it light and social. It's nice to see she hasn't lost her spirit in all this time.
"Thank you." He says with honest glee, as he places his hands on the Dratini. Despite the pokemon's squirming he can feel the strength in her coils, right now only a little different than an Ekans yet all that untapped power was right there inside her. He lets her go as Bunny apologizes for her, but he waves it off with a quick gesture, patting a hand along the water's surface. "Oh it's alright. She's probably just shy of strangers." says Elijah.
He points off to the distance, where the Honedge is still half-buried in sand and Rush is now chasing after the waves only to run back when the water nears, yelling out his excitement with every push and pull of the tide. It's Praline that's hovering nearby, curious as to what his trainer is up to, but unsure if he should come by. "My pokemon are over there, and I'm here for a longer stay actually." He doesn't have to reveal to her that he'd been 'kicked out' by his Father. At least it didn't seem like any news from Johto really made it to Kalos. Not really the point of conversation he wants to have, he motions for Praline to come over for a distraction.
The Togekiss glides forward, large body just above the water's surface. "This here's Praline. Say hi fella." He nudges the Pokemon. Just like the happy bugger that he is, he saunters over, raising a wing at Bunny as a hello with a shrill Togeee~ to go with it.
"So, your dad has finally let you go off on your own, huh? Or are you only here for the festival?"
--- ALIVE AGAIN, ANOTHER DAY, I'M NOT AFRAID TO GET OVER ---
[attr="class","boneshatter3"]To Bunny's dismay, Elijah was still the same. He still had the charming face, the charming expressions, the ever-so-charming voice that lured her in in the first place. It almost became overwhelming, the feelings and memories that began to burst back into her chest and mind like bullets piercing through her skin. This. Was. Not. Good. And then he made it worse, by calling her lovely, and she felt the blood rush straight to her cheeks and her heart skip a beat to the point she was nearly dizzy.
"Th-thanks," she said, avoiding her eyes again. "You look pretty, uh, pretty too, just so you know." Bunny giggled in fake innocence. She didn't know how to get out of this situation. And the worst part was that she didn't even know if she wanted to get out of it. Some part of her, deep inside, wanted to continue to be given attention and compliments by this attractive man that she used to ask herself "what if?" over.
"Oh, I'm sure," Bunny said, now picking up Diana into her arms and petting the Dratini to calm her. "She might not like being handled by people she doesn't know or something." Either way, the poor pokémon looked very uncomfortable as she eyed Elijah with wary eyes. Bunny didn't know what it meant, and it honestly made her feel worried. Diana had never acted that way before with anyone, so Bunny didn't know if her pokémon was only sensing her feelings or if there was something wrong.
But then Elijah pointed to his pokémon, and a sinking feeling erupted in Bunny's body. So he was staying here. That meant that they were probably going to bump into each other pretty often, and she didn't know how she felt about that. Bunny wanted to feel upset, angry even, but there was still that tiny part of her that was happy and excited that she might have a chance.
And then all of her worries and thoughts melted away. It was a Togekiss gliding forward on great, snow-white wings and gliding just above the water. Bunny gasped audibly in awe. The cute thing raised a wing to Bunny in hello, and she waved back with a wide, genuine grin. "Oh my gosh, wow," she said in amazement. "Can I pet him?" She glanced at Elijah, probably making eye contact for the first time during this encounter. Her heart did something funny again, so she looked back at the Togekiss with her hand held out for it to greet should he agree.
Bunny snorted loudly as Elijah mentioned her father. "What do you mean, "finally let me go"? He was all gung-ho about me coming to Hoenn when I mentioned, especially when I said I wanted to start my coordinating career there. He nearly kicked me out the door and into the plane, he was so excited for me! This is his home region, you know. Where he started out as a Coordinator. I guess he was excited to see that I wanted to follow in his footsteps instead of being a Trainer like my mom and her family, but he wouldn't have minded if I did." That was the most she had talked this whole time, but she didn't even notice as she looked the Togekiss over in wonder. Diana squirmed a little in her arms, but greeted the pokémon with a friendly squeal. It seemed she was only nervous with Elijah, not his pokémon.
