Harper's eyes went wide as she saw the brimming town of Oldale laying right before her very eyes. The earlier encounter with the girl and her oshawott, combined with the feeling of actually getting somewhere was enough to make her jump up and down slightly in excitement. In her arms, Eve bounced with her, although it was more from Harper's movements than from her own little body. Eve was excitable, but she was worn out from walking so much, and was now resting comfortably in Harper's arms. It was only when Harper bounced, that she crinkled her nose and yawned, pawing at the girls shirt to stop jarring her.
"Sorry," Harper thought to herself and stopped bouncing, kissing the small eevee on the head as she continued walking, her steps more brisk than before. The excitement she was showing would barely go unnoticed by any people who saw her, although now that she was walking faster, she could hear herself getting closer to another noise. A voice.
It was calling for help.
She nearly dropped Eve in her startled state, whirling around to see where the cries of help were coming from. Harper's feet automatically swerved to the area where she could hear the voice, and stopped short a few meters from a large tree, in which a man was seemingly stuck in.
Harper's eyebrows raised in alarm as he shouted for her to get help, and she put her eevee down, pulling out her phone to type a message. That's when she realized:
He couldn't see from all the way up there.
Letting out a small squeak of frustration, she moved to get closer so he could hear the voice recognition software on her phone, before typing in the message.
When it played back, she knew it still wasn't loud enough.
Frustrated, she put her hands on her head and pouted up at the tree, before putting her hand up on the first branch. She had climbed trees before. What was so menacing about this one? She would definitely not get stuck.
Or so she thought as she glanced down, lost her footing, and snagged herself on a tree branch.
"Shit." She groaned inaudibly and rolled her eyes, before typing a message to the man in the tree. At least now he would be able to hear her phone talking.
"My name is Harper. Sorry about this, I was trying to tell you I was going to get help." The phone paused, as she typed a new sentence in. "Now I guess we both need help." Another eyeroll. She had been so close to getting the Oldale. And now she was stuck in a freaking tree with someone she hardly even knew.
"I need to stop being so nice." Harper told herself, although she knew it would never happen. It was natural instinct.

This... wasn't the brightest idea-- sure, at the time it sounded pretty grounded and sound plan.
The execution? Bit of a struggle, losing footing way more often than he liked, but he manage to perch himself on the tree. What he gained from this? Well, Oldale was much closer than he originally thought, making this plan unnecessary and not worth the splinters it cost. The problem?
How the fuck do you climb down?
Living in Goldenrod, being around so much trees and grass and goddamn nature, he thought this was the kind of stuff you're suppose to do. Camping out (horrible experience, mind you, but he'll learn... hopefully), long walks (even if he's tempted to invest in a bike), and best of all, climbing trees. Looking back, he remembered that care-free smile, assuring his Hawlucha-- who didn't seem really that concern but he's sure he must be, on theinside -- and grunting his way up the tree, slipping feet and uncomfortable scraps of his hands against the bark.
His bright eyes squinted at the town not that far out in the distance. Maybe if I yell... I could get someone's attention? Wishful thought but not like he had a choice.Hawlucha down below watched in amusement. Munching away happily at the found treasure-- human-made, processed and artificially sweeten snack; it didn't beat a berry but pretty good nonetheless. You traitor. Not even going to help your trainer? Well... Can't be helped.
Sucking in a deep breath-- this really was his only choice.
"HELP. ANYONE OUT THERE, PLEASE?"
His cheeks were very much flushed in embarrassment but he continue his cries for his rescue. No way in hell he's risking a sprain ankle or broken limb or dragging his risky butt to Oldale for medical attention.
Rescue came quick to his relief. A pretty girl appeared, with eeve in hand and worried expression. "Hey, please-- think I might need a ladder or something, I don't know." Seamus tried not to sound panicked... but its really hard when he was so far off the ground. It really didn't matter he sounded like a distressed five year old, since being distressed was the current mood he was in. Well, distressed and mildly embarrassed.
The lady... um... His brows knitted together, frowning slightly. "Um... uh, hey." He watched the lady pull out her phone-- to text for help?-- before she began her trek up the tree, without saying a single word. Add confused to the state of emotions he's feeling.
He scooted closer to the tree trunk, giving small gasp and attempt to reach out when the girl almost lost her own footing-- thankfully, she manage to catch onto the branch... and back to typing out something. "H-Hello. I'm Seamus..." He started out, not sure to smile or let the mix of emotions show on his face; he let out a worried laugh at the quip of her being stuck as well. "I guess we are... Harper. Nice name, by the way." He gave a small sigh, shaking his head. "Also nice to meet you..." Would it be too rude ask why she was typing everything out on a phone? Biting his bottom lip, he push away the thought of asking-- it might be or it might not; he's not going to risk it for the biscuit and offend the nice lady. "You didn't need to do that, you know-- as nice as company is... I don't think getting stuck anywhere is really fair for you." He added, looking away in embarrassment, "Sorry, I'm usually way cooler than this on first impressions."
Harper sighed slightly as she hung there, her eyes searching for a way down. At the bottom of the tree, Eve was whining and pawing at the bark, freaking out that her trainer was now stuck with a stranger. The little pokemon knew that Harper couldn't talk, so she was a little over-protective of her, and she was now regretting even letting Harper climb the tree.
As the boy climbed a little closer, most likely to try and un-snag her from the branch she was hooked on, Harper held up her hand and smiled politely. No need in breaking both their necks, right? She kept searching for something to get her down, eying a small tree in the distance. It was within arms reach, but she couldn't really reach without fear of dying. If she could get to the top of the smaller tree, she could probably pull herself off the branch, though.
Typing, she wrinkled her nose slightly, and then held the phone out, with a big smile. No sense in making it a bad situation by being angry, right?
"I'm usually much easier to talk to." The message said, and she laughed silently, before typing a little more. "I guess I shouldn't make jokes, but I am mute. I was just trying to tell you I'd go get help. Oops!" Harper rolled her eyes and let out another silent laugh. When she actually did laugh, it was a soft rasp sound, clear that her vocal chords weren't stretched out and vibrating as well as they could have.
Pulling her phone back once more, she stuck her tongue out as she typed another message, before holding it out. "I'll send Eve to grab someone to help, okay? She's really good at talking to people... Even though she doesn't actually speak English." Harper gave him a thumbs up before moving her hands to talk to Eve. Eve stood there and watched, before backing up cautiously and running towards Oldale for help. There would definitely be a police person that could help them, there.

...Oh, crap-- looked like something caught on to her clothes, being a bit closer now and spotting it. Part of him was a afraid one wrong move could be the result of them both falling to their deaths... or broken limbs-- but he wasn't going to leave the girl stranded either. That would've been the finest example of a dick move after all.
Reaching over and freeing her from the pesky thing, he offered a hand to help pull her up to his branch. It should be sturdy enough-- if it could hold his weight with no worrying cracks of bark, it could take a little more.
Well... that answered his question to why the girl conversed through phone rather than talking to him, he supposed. Seamus gave a small smile, the comment did get a small chuckle out of him. Her laugh was soft and he could tell she must've not laugh like that often but he found it kinda charming because it at least sounded genuine. "No, no-- there's never a bad time for a joke." He assured, glancing down to see the pokemon waiting patiently (or worriedly below).
Or if you were his Hawlucha, not... really caring in the least bit. While eevee cutely whined and looked bothered-- her trainer did manage to herself in a predicament for his sake, didn't she?--, the fighting type seemed satisfied with his snack and lazy shrug.
"..But its so small, should it go? I wouldn't want to risk your eevee..." He sighed quietly, shaking his head. "I'll... figure out something. Um..." He glanced down, frown grew as... it looked a long way down from here. "Maybe if I send my Hawlucha with it? Probably catch attention if there's two pokemon trying to get help."
If Lucha was even willing.
"I'm really sorry. That was really nice of you for coming to my rescue though-- I wasn't expecting to be stuck up here, alone, longer." He said sheepishly, "I'm guessing you were heading to Oldale as well?"
The boy in the tree seemed "cool" enough in her eyes, and Harper couldn't see what the problem was with the way they had met. In fact, it was a little exciting! What better way to start her journey off than to encounter someone needing assistance, and help them out? Harper thought that this was an actual positive, and would probably spin it that way if she ever did get to tell the story to anyone.
As he snagged her dress off the branch she had gotten it caught on, Harper let out a raspy gasp as she fell a few inches, eyes going wide. When she settled onto the branch she was holding onto, she started to laugh silently to herself, wondering what the hell she was freaking out about, before looking back to Seamus, still laughing a bit.
However, at the mention of him being sorry about being stuck in the tree, Harper pushed herself up and held onto the branch with her thighs, knitting her feet together at the bottom so that she wouldn't fall. Her arms waved slightly and she shook her head, wiggling her fingers in a, "it's nothing, it's my pleasure." sort of way. She whipped out here phone and started typing, before turning it towards him, smiling brightly.
"What's life without a few bumps in the road? It may be kind of silly, but... at least we haven't fallen."She spun the negative into a positive, before grinning at the whole situation. It was pretty funny. "Eve will be fine! She's a tough little one. And I was heading to Oldale. I take it you were too. If we ever get down from here, it'd be fun to walk with you." Harper gave a little thumbs-up to her tree-companion and shrugged her shoulders, before pulling her phone back to herself. "If you'll have me along!"

He must've jinxed himself. With a near heart attack, seeing the girl lose her grip and fell. Though just a couple of inches. Panicked, he grappled for her, in attempt to pull her up but... she's okay, settling onto a branch. He wasn't laughing but the smile on the girl's face ease him a tiny bit, looking worried all the same.
He liked her peppiness, at least. He shook his head, taking her denial of his apology-- of course, someone who joked and smiled effortlessly wouldn't take it. In the back of his mind, he already decided to make it up for her; maybe in Oldale... if she was still willing to talk to him after this fiasco they gotten themselves into.
"That's pretty optimistic way of looking at this, I guess." Her smile was infectious, and before he knew it, Seamus was grinning as well. "I like it." And he meant it. Optimism was always refreshing to see and the girl hasn't given a reason to stay embarrassed, probably brushing off the fact how weird this conversation was taking place. Pretty memorable though. Certainly left some sort of impression. He'll assume good for now.
"Well... alright. I'll have my Hawlucha tag along; rather that than watch him devour my snacks." He said,a touch sour towards the end, as he shot the lazing flying type lick his taloned hand. "Lucha?" The bird perked up, though not eagerly, "I want you to go find help with... um, Eve, right?" The bird crowed unhappily at that but... his pokemon had enough sense to listen. Springing on to his feet, Hawlucha was ready to go.
Seamus glanced back at Harper, a little surprise-- and he was back to smiling with a small chuckle at the thumbs up. "Sure. Why wouldn't I? You're pretty sweet to begin with and this makes it easier for me to pay you back for your trouble." He stated happily, adding: "A win-win in my eyes."
Harper was happy that he seemed to understand that this shouldn't be a negative situation. Life had been hard on her, but she had chose to push through and ignore the mishaps and make them into happy situations. As Seamus watched after the Hawlucha that went with Eve, Harper grinned and waved after them, before swinging her leg over and grabbing onto the next branch, pulling herself up to sit next to him. She plopped down and looked down at the ground, blinking.
Leaning back, she stuck out her tongue a bit as she typed, then gave Seamus a crinkle-eye look as she turned her phone around. "We're super high up! I bet we could see the city after Oldale!"She looked back and forth, trying to spot the next city. It was wishful thinking, but right on the horizon she could see the outskirts of the next city over.
It was so close! It seemed like everything was just within the reach of her fingertips. She reached out and tried to squish one of the little buildings between her fingers, before grinning a bit at the thought.
"I feel like a giant." She typed, although her eyes were fixated on the horizon, going wide as her mouth formed a little "o." This was actually quite amazing. It was nice being stuck in this big tree!
Glancing back over to Seamus, she held up her finger, suddenly excited. Pulling her satchel around to her front, she pulled out a couple of sandwiches, handing him one. "Eat!" She mouthed, rather than typed, and bit into a sandwich, excited to have a little snack while she enjoyed the view.

Bundled with excitement, Harper's attitude was ebbing away the worry-- maybe this wouldn't be so bad? He expected awkwardness and long stretches of silence, but getting over his general embarrassment, he felt his trademarked, impish grin tugged at his lips.
Scooting away from the trunk to make room for the girl to sit down, a hand posed ready in case she slipped. When she settled, he glanced in the general direction their pokemon disappeared off to-- maybe they'd find help sooner rather than later. Despite this... wasn't so bad. At least Seamus supposed.
The trainer wasn't going to lie-- at first, he felt a little uncertain how to respond, the natural flow of conversation, despite he didn't feel uncomfortable by it, was paused everytime Harper typed out. She was pretty fast it though, quite a feat on its own. "It is pretty high..." He chuckled, glancing out into the horizon like she did before. "Feels kinda different than looking out a building's window, to tell the truth. Maybe because I had to drag myself up."
Most of his life, he tried brushed aside the notion of being a city boy, through and through. But... he knew next to nothing, to be honest. He didn't miss Goldrod city, this beat sitting in a class with a teacher droning on and on about junk yet...
He perked, his attention caught-- and this girl was a godsend. "W-well if you're sure," He said with very paper thin reluctance, taking the offered sandwich. With hawlucha taking and eating his snack, he'd been craving for something. "Thank you Harper. Now I owe you even more than before!" He immediately bit into his sandwich, pleased to the fact it wasn't just better than the barely edible food he's use to making, but it tasted so nice; he gave a pleased hum, savoring the bite.

Seamus seemed pleased with her cooking, which made Harper grin all the more as he savoured the sandwich. She had a few more in the little cooler-pocket of her bag, and she would be happy to share them with him in he got hungry again, or was still hungry after he finished the sandwich. She had a feeling they wouldn't be caught up here much longer, and once they were through with being in the tree, things would be fine. Better than they were, even, since she had made a new friend!
As Seamus ate, Harper hummed to herself in her own head and mulled over what he had said about tall buildings and how different things were out here. She had to agree, but mostly because the most she saw in her lifetime was the small garden that her parents barely noticed in their backyard. Her knowledge of plants and trees had come from books, that she had read next to the only tree in the small garden.
Pulling out her phone after she was finished eating, she typed a message slowly, rewriting it a few times before actually turning it over for him to look at it. It was a bit a nuisance when she changed her mind about her messages, because people always questioned her about it afterwards, wondering what was going on in that little brain of hers.
Truth be told, a lot went on in her mind, but she tried to keep very positive and enlightening things at the forefront, making sure that her most outward thoughts shed nothing but light on dim situations. "It's fun being up here. I don't mind being stuck." Harper smiled politely at him and shrugged her shoulders, before typing again.
"Beats sitting at home doing nothing."

Silence never abide well with Seamus. Conversation and motion were things he needed, to distract him-- and being stuck in a tree with food to occupy his mouth was hindering just that. He suppose talking between bites would be gross to classy girl like Harper, so it wouldn't kill him to keep his mouth shut and his thoughts to himself but...
"Did you make these yourself?" He asked, swallowing as he lowered the sandwich from his face. Thinking always lead to boredom; he'd rather talk than left to his own devices to be honest. "Because that'd be pretty awesome. Back home, my auntie didn't even trust me knife or be in the kitchen alone for extended amount of time..." He chuckled, shaking his head, "You set fire to a dish one time at fourteen and suddenly you're rights are revoked."
Thouuuugh he might be excluding a ton of things like his terrible luck in there, for example. He pretty sure he's the reason why the corner always seemed to be out of bandages-- though he got away with trying (never once convinced anyone) to appear like a badass, rmost times his bandaged hands were a result of knife and not really paying attention. And I might set fire to a dish more than once but who's counting... beside auntie, I mean.
He smiled, practically beaming as he finished up the last of food-- he was already sad it was over. But he had enough manners to ask for another; it's nice enough for her to even consider giving him one. "I can agree with that, wholeheartedly." He replied, as he gazed out ahead with a grin, "Troublesome in a way but... you're right, this is kinda fun." Swinging his legs, he felt a little more at ease. "I grew up in Goldenrod city... y'know, Johto. Never been outside the region before, let alone the city, so this... is kinda a new experience." Seamus beamed, nudging the girl playfully, "Better since I got to meet nice person like you."

Harper felt the heat rising in her cheeks as she thought about what exactly he had said. He thought she was nice? Well, of course she had been told that in the past, but it seemed like everything that he was saying was a little overwhelming. She heaved in a deep breath to calm herself down, not really used to so much praise, before putting down her phone. She pointed to the sandwich, then to herself, and nodded, signifying that she had made them herself. Picking up her phone, she typed something quickly and turned it over.
"I'd be happy to make us more if you'd like to travel together!" The message seemed cheerful enough, especially coupled with her beaming smile and flushed cheeks. It was exciting to think that maybe she would have a new travel companion, especially since it was rather lonely and a little bit scary walking the trails by herself.
Glancing out towards the horizon, she saw the two outlines of the pokemon returning, along with two people carrying a ladder. Help had arrived! She waved frantically, arms flailing as she tried to signal them over. Of course, the pokemon would lead them right to the tree, so it wasn't like she needed to do so. And it probably wouldn't have been the worst of choices... If not for the fact that she was now falling out of the tree, snagging on a few branches.
The last branch really broke her fall, as it snagged her coat and held her about 5 feet from the ground, before eventually snapping and letting her loose. Harper landed on the ground with a thud, and raised her hands to her head, pouting as a headache started surging through her head.
She was definitely concussed.
And waving to their rescuers was definitely something she would never do again.
"Ouch." She breathed silently, letting the breath of air flow past her lips with no sound.
