Julius did not quite know or want to know why he had been dragged into a Karaoke event of all things, and neither did he remember how he got there. He was pretty sure someone must have drugged him or something and then forced him to wake up here. Karaoke was simply not something he did, ever. It was too annoying and weird and...okay yeah, he sucked at singing. Whatever. Singing was a waste of time. And energy.
Okay maybe the little him might have wanted to be a singer at one point in his life. Maybe. But that was too long ago. He didn't remember it. Okay maybe he did.
But either way, he wasn't interested. Except he kind of was. So interested in the couple dancing and signing awkwardly on stage that he didn't even notice that the brunette sitting next to him was none other than Cassandra. Her hair wasn't something extraordinarily memorable, and Julius's gaze was so fixed on the sight and sound of them singing that he might not have noticed even if it had been Cassie and not just Cass.
So he continued watching the show he kept telling himself he didn't really like, and pretended like the person humming the tune of the song wasn't actually him but rather someone next to him. Ah, the little lies you tell yourself..

cass isn't one to sing. in fact, she's even a little tone death. whatever signing she might've done in the past is in the shower or in high school choir. her voice is only used for commanding and ordering and talking, thank you very much.
so whens she finds herself pulled along to the karaoke event, cass can't help but take grasp of juls and pull him along with her. if she's going to fall into the pit of horrible singing, then he's doing down with her. they morph into the crowd that's already gathered, and soon enough they're at the front of the lines. it's open-mic night.
the couple that sings and dances on the stage is merrily encouraged by the crowd below. cass can't help but sway and hum along. in her slightly drunken stupor she can't really be the ruthless overlord of magma. soon enough the couple's off, and there's someone pushing and budging her towards the stage. come on, one song won't hurt--they urge, and by the time she's mustered the courage to say no she's already on stage, with none other then juls.

He did not notice how easy it was to get lost in the waves of people going around, and he most certainly did not think it would be so easy to get this tipsy this fast. What he could recollect was a blur, and all he knew was that after some deafening applause the singing had stopped and now the mike was empty- and everyone was shouting at someone to sing.
And then this girl stood up, with overgrown brown hair that swayed in the light, and then people were pushing her forward and then suddenly she looked back at him and then he was being pushed up to- like a kiss cam except far more embarrassing. The girl seemed in a daze as well and while they walked forward (why was he walking forward!?) he thought she looked cute. And then he realized when they were on stage just who exactly that girl was- and suddenly the half-asleep day dream turned into reality and blood rushed to his face.
He didn’t do blushing, but he didn't do stages either.
"Cass!" he whispered at her, trying to get her to recognize him. "I cant sing!" he whispered-shouted but the crowd was excited for a cutesy couple duet and ignored the frantic arm waving of the impromptu male entertainer.
His green eyes looked at her frantically, quite possibly panicking in a childish way as his mouth began twitching.
He regretted drinking. But maybe if he was going to sing, it was better he didn't remember it....

cass finds herself on stage, with the spotlight shining down on them. there's a crowd of people in front of her. they push someone to the front. the guy's obviously unwilling, but the crowd is relentless. they shove him into the stage. she blinks -- a look of recognition crosses her face. juls. she could recognize those hipster glasses anywhere.
"juls! i-i can't either!" cass stutters. her face turns red as the crowded continues to encourage them. the host makes the announcements and pulls out two mics, pushing them into her hands and probably juls', too. oh god.
cass looks around wildly. the exit. maybe she can hop out the sides or something, but with one glance both ways she can see that there's a couple people on the side already. they sit on the stairs, blocking off any attempt to execute her retreat.

Recognition fills Cassandra's face and Julius watches her expressions morph from shock to embarrassment. Cass didn't strike him as the stuttering type, but she was getting completely flustered. And even though the subconscious part of his mind was telling him how endlessly cute that was, the normal part of him was getting flustered too. Suddenly he has a mic in his hand and he's looking at Cassandra, panicking.
But he can't be panicking, that would be too uncool. So he gulps and smiles instead, a shaky little thing still horrified at the thought of his voice being heard. "I guess we'll have to sing, then." Cassandra's already looking for an exit and Julius smiles, reaching out to grab her hand a calm her down a bit.
"Hey, relax. We got this."
And then at that moment the song comes on, the peppy tune filling the hall as the audience cheers in excitement for the song to come. Julius begins, hoping Cassandra will join in right away and block out the worst of his voice.
"We're no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I...."
Yeah, fuck boy tactic of confidence was not going so well.
Post by cassandra cain on Jun 23, 2015 5:46:32 GMT
"we're singing?!" cass exclaims. this is possibly the worst thing that could happen. she panics a little bit more, semi-tempted to leap over the spectators and make a dash for the exit. this can't be happening. juls reaches over to take her hand, and she instantly finds herself a little bit more reassured. and she squeezes it back, half out of instinct and half out of comfort.
maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
she looks up at the screen behind them. the bouncy beats of the never gonna give you up start playing. the crowd screams in either agreement or anger. cass looks at the moderator in exasperation, because technically they've just been rickrolled. it's such a hated song, or meme, and now they're going to sing it.
she joins in, finding comfort that jul's isn't the best singer, ever. "a full commitment's what i'm thinking of, you wouldn't get this from any other guy." she sings, finding strange resonance in the fact that she probably wouldn't get it from rory. in her drunken mind, cass wonders about juls -- if he has a girlfriend, if he has to commit to others as well.
"i just wanna tell you how i'm feeling. gotta make you understand..."

What was funny was how Julius wasn't even thinking about the photo of Liam-slash-Rory on Cassandra's phone. He wasn't thinking about consequences or about anything else, no. What struck him was how the lighting of the place made her deep blue eyes look like little sapphires, about how her whole face seemed to glow, and about how she was holding his hand.
And about how she sucked at signing as much as he did.
The lyrics came automatically. "Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let you down." He paused, looking from the lyric to Cassandra, and then quickly continued. "Never gonna run around and desert you!" THe crowd had fallen into a sudden silence, and Julius was drunk enough to believe it was the appreciative kind. Oh, how little he knew.
"Never gonna make you cry. Never gonna say goodbye. Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you..."
He was enjoying the song now, and the alcohol was making his voice louder and possibly worse. He wondered if two negatives could cancel out and become positive, but in the end the two of them singing together was like taking a hammer to a xylophone.
And at the "you" was when you heard the first shout of booing from the crowd, and soon enough Julius ducked down to avoid a plastic bottle. That was the only thing that broke his intense stare into Cassandra's eyes, and the drunken him yelled angrily into the crowd.
Post by cassandra cain on Jun 23, 2015 23:53:56 GMT
there's an awkward silence that fills the space where whooping and hollering used to be. cass gets increasingly nervous. she keeps her gaze on juls and his emerald eyes, because she knows without that looking that the crowd's stare is dead and disappointing. under all the fake grin and nervous shaking, she's absolutely seething inside. they forced her into this position. they will all perish under magma's rule soon, she guaruntees.
she suddenly breaks off when they start booing. if looks could kill, they would be dead in a heartbeat. a plastic bottle whizzes by her face. it nearly takes out juls'. "who threw that?!" she snaps. nobody steps up, so she catches sight of the little shit with a grin she hurls her microphone at them. she doesn't even take a glance at where it goes before she turns back and starts digging into her bag.
cass takes a pokeball out and releases her sylveon. "snooki, disarming voice." cass points at the crowd. the pokemon's obviously uncomfortable with the order, because she'd be hurting people that way. but with a stern look from cass she reluctantly faces the mob of people.
snooki shrieks at them. her once angelic voice has been mutated and horribly distorted. it's magnified, and the wave of purple heart beams are picked up by the speakers. the stage instantly starts sparking. there's a deafening screech of sound, like accidently pointing a microphone in the wrong direction.
hand in hand with juls, she tugs at it desperately and turns tail to the back of the stage.

Julius watched, half in terror half in awe and half in dazed, drunken appreciation as Cass began showing off her tempered side. The brunette's haired practically seemed red as she shouted at the crowd, the eerie stillness filled by her commanding, no nonsense voice. The microphone was thrown and Julius continued to be awe-struck, and finally she went as far as to summon a Sylveon and order the crowd to be ear-pierced. Julius practically scream at the horrible onslaught of noise that hit his ear drums.
But he wasn't given a chance to react. The crowd was thoroughly pissed off now, and people were shouting for them to be caught and groaning in pain all at once. Cass was unfazed, like she'd done this a million times before, and she grabbed his hand, commanding him to run.
"H-hey!"
His tipsy running was all but horrible yet his memory did not fail him. He ran around expertly, knowing exactly where the exit was. So what if he had come here on multiple occasions?!
He kept trying to sputter something at Cass but she was just as fast as he was, and the two were running breathlessly. "You can't just throw thing--s a-at people! Or sic pokemon on them, either!" His mind was spinning though, and he wasn't sure what he was saying. The edges were a little blurry, truth be told.
Finally they made it out, and both of them were hit with the cool night breeze. Inside the whole house was filled with lights and sound, but outside all was silent and serene. Like entering a new world. Julius was panting as he leaned on the wall, eyes on Cass. He had previously told her that her methods were wrong, but now he was the one with the smirk on his face.
"But do you know what you can do?" He asked, after a long enough pause.
Beside him was the fusebox of the karaoke house, silent as the night, having gone untampered with for quite some time...
Post by cassandra cain on Jun 25, 2015 21:41:32 GMT
with the thrown microphone and snooki's screeching voice, it tips the crowd over. her display of anger enrages them. they throw up their hands and yell as if they're agreeing to a lynch. she grabs juls' hand and with the other, returns snooki lest they decide to take her as hostage and hunt for her head.
probably unlikely, but she's too drunk to care.
it's not the first time she's gotten herself into a situation like this, but it is the first time in a while. cass hasn't had to run away from an angry crowd since she was a grunt. since she was with rory and -- she shakes the thought from her head. she doesn't really want to think about him at the moment, because while they're on good terms now, there's no denying the way she got lost in the deepness of his eyes and the warmth of his hand.
she breathes, concentrating on running and the beat of her heart. safe to say, it's exhilirating. cass lets juls take the lead. her sense of direction practically crumbles when she's drunk, and juls looks like he knows the place better than she does. they run breathlessly. if there's anyone more surprised at her actions tonight then the crowd, it's juls.
she waits until they're in the clear and out the building. "they made me angry." she huffs, offering a simple reply. she places her hands on her knees and tries to catch her break. "what?" she asks. she glances up at his smirking face. her eyes catch on the fusebox next to them. she feels her lips split into a chesire grin.

Julius laughs slightly at her huffed response, Cass acting out like that in a stubborn and irrational way makes her seem more like her, and even though Julius wouldn't personally approve, he'd take a person willing to bend around rules than someone who stuck to them like glue. So his laugh is hardly mean, and his eyes are softer, more open.
He grins when she does, the cat-like smirk on Cass's face invoking his own as he finds himself happy she figure it out. It feels like he's reliving highschool all over again, with the silly tricks and the midnight karaoke. Except he'd rather not relive Karaoke night at highschool, thank you very much...
"Of course," he says cockily.
The alcohol was getting to him, and he felt like if he didn't act now, he'd never act again. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to be doing, or what his mind was telling him to do, so his hand fell to the fusebox automatically, switching the switch off and then plucking the wires like flowers.
The dim lights of the karaoke place instantly go out, the music stops, and the night takes over- everything is dipped in some shade or the other of black, and Julius can only make out Cassandra's blue eyes. He hears groaning and shouting and some screams as well from inside the building, and there's nothing stopping him from letting out a laugh, staggering a little in his drunken state and falling against the wall for support.
Post by cassandra cain on Jun 27, 2015 4:26:35 GMT
with her final approval juls instantly reaches for the fuse box. he flips a couple switches off and in a fluid motion unplugs each of the wires. the power inside the building suddenly goes off. the yellow glow on them fades away. all at once the lights flicker off, and the crowd inside is suddenly upset by the turn of events. if they weren't mad before, they must be furious now.
they're enveloped into darkness. she faintly see his form under the moonlight, but there's nothing more illuminated than his bright emerald eyes. she drunkenly laughs with him -- it's a lot more funnier then it's supposed to be. cass practically loses her breathe because she's huffing so hard.
she places on a hand sloppily on his shoulders, and leans against the cold wall opposite of him and wiping an imaginary tear out of her eye. she hasn't had this much fun in a long time. cass grins, gripping his shoulder a little bit more tightly. there's a certain kinship in sabotaging the enjoyment of strangers.

And then they're both laughing, two idiots under the moonlight drunk on alcohol and revenge and joy all at once, probably about to be attacked by a mob of angry karaoke-goers. And yet what Cass said was so perfectly correct, the night had turned from something he'd be hard pressed to forget to something he'd yearn to remember, always.
He looked at her, and felt a sudden surge of dizzy warmth as she started laughing, hand against his shoulder, pressing onto him and leaning against the wall. Julius's laughter slowed down long before Cass's and eventually he found out just how pretty she looked when she was laughing.
He was breathing heavily too, and possibly horribly drunk but he knew just the words to say. "But maybe it can..." His words were just a breath of air, soft and quickly spoken. But there was nothing else to say. They were already so close and closing the gap came naturally. In a matter of seconds his lips were on hers and his eyes had closed, his hands in her hair. The night outside was dark and cool, but right now it felt like a display of fireworks inside his mind.
their laughs are soft and hearty under the moonlight. there's much joy in the misery of others, especially when they're drunk. her giggles don't subside until long after juls's have stopped. cass doesn't know whether it's the alcohol that's making her laugh this much or she's actually having this much fun. maybe it's both, but all she knows is that she probably won't forget this night either. not for a long time.
she looks up at his undecipherable whisper, but before she can ask about it juls closes the gap between them. cass freezes, because it feels like there's something inherently wrong with it. but she can't really pin it down. the alcohol's made her mind hazy, so she goes ahead and kisses him back. she ruffles his hair under her careless fingers.
"woah." when they finally break cass is left breathless, feeling a certain kind of high that could only be left by a kiss. she's smiling gleefully until she realizes that she might've just broken her relationship witih rory. guilt floods her, but cass can't seem to stop. she grips his hair tight and pulls him in again for another fierce kiss.

He hadn't been expecting the second kiss. Somewhere in the middle of all the fireworks inside his mind, there came the mental image of the day they exchanged numbers, the day where Cassandra has seen Carissa and Julius had seen Rory. Somehwere along the lines he had expected to get slapped, or pushed away, and somehwere he had decided it would be okay as long as it was for this very moment.
But when she released his hold on her, Cass only came back to him two times stronger, her hands in his hair, and their tongues touching in the most fiery kiss he'd had since a long, long time ago. His hands were suddenly around her back, and travelling further down, holding her tight, when suddenly---
"They must have gone that way!"
Julius cringed and pulled away, rushing to move Cass and himself to the side so they were out of view of the people who came rushing out of the karaoke place. It was like a witch hunt, and Julius didn't know what he was supposed to do. The longer they spent here, the more chances there were of getting caught.
He grabbed Cassandra's hand and ran, far too drunk to tell where and too high on passion to tell why.
