Penelope stared off into the horizon as she tapped her phone on her knee. She had sent out four random texts to local numbers, hoping that they would get back to her. She was in the mood for a battle, and it wasn't as though she didn't want to battle strangers, but she wanted it to be a friendly battle. One people could go home feeling sportsman(woman)ly about in the end.
Sighing, she glanced over as another person approached her, holding her other hand on the back of her Houndour, Bruce. He raised his head slightly and stared at the person approaching, waiting for them to actually speak up. She stood slowly and smiled at the person approaching, holding out her hand towards him.
"Hi there, I'm Penelope. Are you here for the battle?" Penelope raised her eyebrows and smiled more politely. "I'm glad you came!"

WHEN I WAKE UP, I'M AFRAID, SOMEBODY ELSE MIGHT TAKE MY PLACE. . .
Dylan was not expecting any texts from anyone, but he got one surprisingly. At first it was a bit scary, since he didn't know who the person who sent him the text was or, why he or she sent him the text, but then he realized it was just someone looking for a friendly battle after he had read the text, which had calmed his fears. "Haha, sounds like fun." He muttered to himself quietly on his way to the where the battle was suppose to take place.
"I hope they don't expect too much from me, I did just start my journey a week ago or so." Dylan thought to himself, he assumed they had texted him using some sort of local book that had numbers of starting trainers. "If they're asking to meet around here their Pokémon should be around the same level as my Pokémon are I guess. . ." He added and finally saw someone in the distance. He waved from where he was and approached with a kind smile stitched across his face.
"Hi there, I'm Penelope. Are you here for the battle?" She asked him quite politely, with a friendly smile on her face as well as she protruded a hand towards him. "I'm glad you came!"
"Howdy, my name's Dylan, and yeah I came here for the battle. Thanks for inviting me." He replied still smiling kindly, taking her hand and shaking it firmly.
[attr="class","axscroll"]Axel had to admit, he didn't even know his phone had that feature. He was expecting the text to be from one of his brothers, but it wasn't surprisingly. Instead, it was a invitation to a double battle. The idea of working with a random Trainer was a bit of a turn off for Axel. He liked 1v1s way better, but it wasn't like he was going to pass up the opportunity.
Following the directions from the text, Axel eventually came across two other Trainers who seemed to be introducing himself. He caught the last bit of what the last guy was saying. Yup, he was in the right place alright. Placing his phone away, Axel approached the two from the side and gave a short wave. "Hey. This is the place for a double battle, right? Name's Axel." He asked, glancing between the two.
It seemed as though the 4th person hadn't shown up yet. Axel assumed that person would be his double battle partner then, since the other two had already introduced themselves to each other. He wondered what type of person they'd be, and what type of Pokemon. The girl had a Houndour, which was already bad news for his almost full grass team. Oh boy, this would be interesting.

It was maybe a little bit sketchy to go off to some designated spot to meet up with total strangers after a text from an unknown number. Niklaus would probably clip him around the back of his head if he knew that his travelling companion had toddled off, on a whim, all for a text promising an exciting battle. What could he say? It sounded intriguing? Kris definitely didn't want to miss out on a little bit of fun to pass the time with. Plus extra training was extra training and what were the honest chances of the text being absolute bogus? Slim? Large? It was worth having a little look anyway. So, the blonde replied, said he'd be there and slipped on a pair of canvas shoes, slapped on some sunscreen on his bare arms and was promptly out the door. [break][break] To his delight, the other three trainers already appeared to be there and they didn't look like, y'know, bad people. Not the kind to shove him into a bag and cut off his thumb or ear or whatever. With his gible excitedly trailing behind him, both intrigued and wary of this small crowd, Kristmar waved to the three. [break][break] "This 'cause of those texts for a double battle?" He asked, giving each of them a pausing look. A female and two males. Penelope, Dylan and... Axel, who appeared as though he'd recently arrived as well. He'd be his teammate, right? "Name's Kristmar. Just Kris'll do though." He brushed his sandy bangs from his sanguine eyes and flashed the small impromptu group a tiny smirk. "How're we doin' this then? Two each aaand..." He gestured to the darker-haired boy who stood near him. "You're with me?" He looked a little young, a little fresh, and he raised his eyebrow slightly. He'd do though. At least he looked a little more... more than that Dylan boy.

Penelope was delighted that all three people she had texted had shown up, although her face retained the same stoic smile that she always had in her possession. It was nice to see that some people still had a little faith in just a friendly pokemon battle, rather than just ripping each others throats out for the money, or the glory, really.
Clapping her hands together, she nodded and greeted each of the men with a little bit of poise, making sure that she gave them each her undivided attention as they introduced themselves. They seemed to have already paired off with each other and herself, so she saw no reason to really delay the battle any further.
"It's wonderful to meet you all. I'm really looking forward to this." Penelope nodded and then pet Bruce on the head, wiggling her fingers between his ears. Like any pokemon trainer, it was always a worry to battle for Penelope, but she knew that Bruce would be able to hold his own. They needed this, and after the battles on the route to get here, Penelope needed a little human interaction. Not that should wouldn't get that if she went back to Oldale.
"Should we get started, then?" Penelope motioned to the wide beachfront, before sauntering over to take her spot on the field, Bruce hot on her heels to take his own spot.

WHEN I WAKE UP, I'M AFRAID, SOMEBODY ELSE MIGHT TAKE MY PLACE...
Dylan remained quiet, listening to everyone introduce themselves and such. He didn't really know what to say to these people, he came here to battle and that was it mostly. He unclipped a Pokéball from his belt peering into it to see which Pokémon it was. "This'll do, just like always." He muttered under his breath quietly, he looked up again and it seem Kris and Axel had decided to team up against Penelope and him, that's fine he didn't mind who his partner was.
"It's wonderful to meet you all. I'm really looking forward to this." Penelope said with a nod, and Dylan simply replied with a nod back to her. He shifted his eyes towards Kristmar's Pokémon, it seemed to be a Dragon Type that was from his home region, he quickly scanned it hoping Kristmar didn't mind, he also scanned Houndour hoping Penelope wouldn't mind either.
"Should we get started, then?" Penelope said to the other group members.
"Yeah." Dylan replied quickly and cracked his fingers. "Go Gastly." He added sending the Ghost and Poison type Pokémon outside. "Gaaaastly." She moaned quietly, already staring down her opponent's Pokémon.
Levitate - Lv.09 - Healthy Gastly is floating idly.
[attr="class","axscroll"]Once the last person had arrived and introduced himself, Axel was getting himself pumped. Although, when the Houndour and then Ghastly took their places on the field, his confidence faltered for a moment. Oh man, he was screwed. Unless Kris could carry him, Axel felt extremely under powered. He listed his Pokemon in his head, and none of them were strong against a Houndour or a Ghastly. And he didn't really want to send out Holly just yet... but since it was a 2v2 with two Pokemon each, he may as well try and get his Mareep out.
Axel took a few steps back, aligning himself with Kris and turning to wave at his double battle partner. "Hey, nice to meet ya. Let's win this, yeah?" He said. Then, Axel turned his attention to the field. Okay, a Houndour and Ghastly weren't all that bad. Although his Mareep was clearly weaker than the two. Maybe if they got the Houndour out of the picture, Holly would be okay. Picking off the Pokeball from his belt, Axel tossed it out onto the field, releasing the electric type in a flash of light. The small Mareep stood on the field and shook itself off, staring blankly at the other two Pokemon in front of it. He waited to hear Axel's commands before moving.
Staring back at Kris and his Gible, Axel motioned to the battle field with a grin. "Looks like you'll be starting things off."

This atmosphere was actually quite pleasant for a casual battle. The girl appeared nice enough and honestly glad all three invites had turned up, and then the other two boys were rather pleasant as well. There was no heavy tension or oppressive hostility coming from any of the three. To tell the truth, the girl - Penny - must've gotten pretty lucky with the numbers she'd texted. If everyone else was taking it easy, so would Kristmar; he'd try to not let his competitiveness get away with him if everyone was keeping it friendly. [break][break] The blonde followed the group down to the sandy beachfront after kicking off his trainers so he could carry them in his hand. He took up his position on Axel's side of their makeshift battle field and dumped his shoes on the ground - a pair of beaten canvas shoes - and gave the darker-haired kid a bit of an impish grin. "Yeah, we better," he replied and motioned for where his gible was to stand, at the ready, for their double battle to begin. [break][break] Of course, it might've been a little, ah... logical, you know? If they'd all taken at least five minutes to at least tell their battle partner what pokémon they even planned to use and what moves they possibly had. Axel's mareep looked very young and a little more green than the other pokémon on the field; did it even know an attack that could damage Dylan's gastly? Hmmm... Kris squinted his eyes at the mareep, pausing just a little before he called his first move... he doubted the mareep would have such a move. Axel was going to have to run his chances with the houndour as Kris was taking the gastly. [break][break] "Alright," he said, rousing from his thoughtful reverie. "Deimos, begin with a sand attack... then a dragon rage!" The gible, practically hopping from foot to foot in anticipation to commence, barked his name enthusiastically as acknowledgement of his trainer's first commands. [break][break] Deimos sped towards the gastly, kicking up sand at it as he went, hoping to reach the levitating ghost-type and possibly even getting some in its eyes. The small dragon growled and snarled, letting himself get riled, and he snapped his teeth at nothing in particular. A light tinge coloured the air around him as his anger began to peak and, without a further signal, he sped towards the gastly again except, this time, aiming to tackle into them while enveloped by this energy.

Penny smiled as they all got settled into their spots, placing her hands together in front of herself and letting them hang losely around her hips. Once the Gible was released, Penny tensed a bit, wondering just how powerful the little pokemon was. However, when he only used sand attack, Penny heaved an inward sigh of relief.
"Your pokemon are nice." Penny complimented, trying to be polite. "I haven't seen a Gible in a long time! Or a Mareep, for that matter..." Penny glanced to the little sheep pokemon, smiling slightly.
Standing a bit more firmly, Penny motioned to the gible and waved a single finger. "Bruce, howl." She mumbled quetly, listening to the howl erupt from Bruce's throat. It was almost haunting that way it hung and lingered in the air. Penelope nodded firmly before pointing to Gible.
"Now fire fang." She called simply to Bruce, who nodded and took off after the Gible, letting loose a fire fang against the little dragon pokemon. After he was finished attacking, he rushed back to his spot, preparing for any retaliation.

Dylan immediately entered his own zone with his Gastly. "Alrighty Gastly you know the drill." He said and his Gastly floated up and down imitating a nod. "Go use Hypnosis twice." Dylan commanded pointing towards Gible. "On that one!" He added and his Gastly prepared to shoot the two hypnotic waves.
Suddenly Gastly was hit in the eyes by some sand letting out a moan of pain. "Gaaaastly. . ." Honestly Dylan didn't see that coming. "Whoa pocket sand." Dylan muttered and then snapped his fingers to get Gastly's attention. "Dodge the next move already!" He instructed and his Gastly spiraled to the left still moaning in some pain. "Now from the top use Hypnosis twice!" He finished and Gastly stopped moaning sending to hypnotic waves at Gible.
Levitate - Lv.09 - Healthy Gastly used Hypnosis on Gible! Gastly used Hypnosis on Gible again!
[attr="class","axscroll"] Axel raised a brow when he noticed Kris staring at his Mareep. He had to admit that his Mareep was not the strongest of his Pokemon, but he wanted it to get some battle experience. Holly was the strongest Pokemon of Axel's team by far, but with the Houndour still up and about, Axel didn't want to take his chances. At least his Mareep was useful with its Thunder Waves. After that, he would set his sights on Penelope's Houndour. That way, Holly would stand a chance in the battle.
The Mareep baa'd in reply to Penelope's compliment. It may have been weak compared to every other Pokemon on the field, but it didn't really bother him. The battle had gotten underway and each Pokemon took its turn. However, Kris' Gible took the barrage of attacks. For an obvious reason, Penelope and Dylan decided to focus all of their attention and resources onto the Gible. Axel clinched his fist, grinning slightly and looking down at his Mareep. "We'll show them what we're made of, right, Mareep? Thunder Wave, on both of them!" Axel called out.
The Mareep baa'd and obeyed. Electricity sparked on its wool before it was released. The light shock danced across the ground and shot towards the Houndour first. Then, the Mareep repeated the process again. Electricity was built up and released, shooting towards the Ghastly as well. Even though he couldn't hit the ghost with a tackle and was much too weak to do much to the Houndour, immobilizing them was a good start!

all we are are pretty faces, picture perfect bottled rage
All Kristmar could do was laugh to stop himself from uttering a distasteful curse in his mother tongue. It was a merry jingle of laughter that, if you listened, was quite hollow and lacking in honest mirth. It was fucking frustrating, alright, to have be both of his opponents' unspoken target. His gible took the fire fang without trouble, thankfully not getting burnt or flinching away... only to just be put asleep by the gastly's hypnosis attacks.
The blonde rubbed his hand over his face and pulled at the corners of his lips with his thumb and forefinger. Like, fuck. Deimos was completely sound asleep and so early in battle.
"I hope you don't mind me leaving it up to you for a while then." Kris murmured to Axel, folding his arms tightly across his chest. He gave the younger male a small smile but, from so up close, he'd no doubt be able to see the hardened edge in his carmine eyes. He was pretty ticked off, okay? "Try to paralyse that gastly, at least, before it put us both to sleep." He let his unimpressed stare drift over to his dozing gible, stretched leisurely out over the sand in the afternoon sun, his tongue lolled out and one of his hind legs twitching.
deimos was hit by fire fang! it's not very effective... deimos was affected by hypnosis! deimos fell asleep! foe gastly's hypnosis failed! deimos is asleep! (1/2) deimos is asleep! (2/2)
Penny gasped as the thunderwave moved rapidly towards Bruce, but sighed happily when she realised that her pokemon would have enough common sense to dodge an attack like that. As Bruce jumped away from the mareep's thunder wave, Penelope held up her hand and pointed towards it briefly, before the Houndour nodded in agreement and took off towards the mareep with a head start.
"Fire fang, then standby for the next move." She called out. These two trainers had great move sets. Now Penelope just needed to keep their stats low so she could actually beat them with Dylan. He and his gastly seemed pretty in-tune, so she didn't really think that she would have a problem relying on him to help out. It was takign down the gible that would prove the hardest, as it seemed howl had no effect on bringing down his defenses.

"Woo, you got the Gible! Nice job! Now get the Mareep!" Dylan said praising his Gastly, who replied with her usual moan. "Gaaast." Which Dylan simply nodded to since he never understood what the heck his Pokémon were saying to him, both always assumed nodding was the correct response to what the other was saying, it was like when you didn't hear what another people had said, then casually nod and laugh.
"Alright Hypnosis! Like I said before on the Mareep!" Dylan commanded, but his Gastly stood idle in the midair, the paralysis refused to let it move. "Come on try again! Hypnosis!" Dylan ordered and Gastly quickly shot out a Hypnotic wave towards Mareep.
Levitate - Lv.10 - Healthy - Paralyzed - Accuracy -1 Gastly is Paralyzed! It is unable to move! Gastly used Hypnosis on Mareep!
[attr="class","axscroll"]Maybe starting with Mareep wasn't the best of ideas. But Axel didn't have anyone else really. Holly would have been taken out in a breeze too considering the Houndour's fire attacks.
The poor Mareep was subjected to the hot fangs, yelping slightly and jumping away. In the process, she had managed to dodge the Hypnosis waves and avoided being lured to sleep. As long as Axel kept Mareep up until Kris' Gible awoke, he felt as though he'd be okay. At least he hoped so. The Ghastly was paralyzed, but the Houndour still stood, having dodged the Thunder Wave and was able to freely move around.
Axel turned to Kris and forced a smile. He was worried, of course, and could tell that his battle partner was a little irritated, but tried to be cheery nonetheless. "Don't worry, I can get that Houndour before Mareep falls. She might be a little weak but her Thunder Waves make up for it." He turned his attention back to the battle. "Hey, you hear that, Mareep! Get that Houndour with a Thunder Wave!" The small electric type didn't hesitate and charged up. Sparks flew from her wool and a quick jolt of electricity was sent the Houndour's way.
