[ SETH ] Route 104! It felt great to be getting somewhere. It was still so early on his journey, but Seth felt like he was making real progress. The first gym was in the city behind him (he had yet to even challenge the leader, but that didn't mean he couldn't explore, right?). Seth would be more than happy to relax on the beach for the day, but he had more important things to get to--the same things he always had to get to, really. It's not that he was dreading getting to these things, in fact he was downright eager to get to them.
Pokemon. That was the thing Seth needed to be getting to. He didn't care overly much about reaching the next city, and especially not in comparison to the opportunities for wild Pokemon. Seth would probably spend a day or two just exploring the upcoming forest and seeing what creatures he could find.
For now, though, Seth was taking a short short break on the beach. Walking in the sand with his shoes in his hand was a sensation Seth missed. Beaches were always nice, and Seth found them relaxing. He was trying to head in the general direction of the dense trees, but still look at the water. It wasn't the best plan, and I wouldn't be surprised if Seth ran right into someone.
"look at the sea!" finnian gushed, hands spread wide as he sprinted with wild abandon. two pokemon tailed after him - sparky the pachirisu and fluffy, the ever disgruntled eevee having to deal with his antics. they left footprints in the sand as they dashed along the coast, peals of laughter filling the air.
of course they weren't going to watch where they went. finnian was too busy taking in the sights and sounds of the petalburg coast side. this is what he had been missing out all this while, being stuck in the city. he sucked in the air until his cheeks were hollowed out, and let out an exhale. the air smelled so salty! he felt like one with the sea. finnian wriggled his toes in the sand, shoes hanging by their laces around their neck.
fluffy was busy trying to rid his fur of the sea, but it was proving to be a futile operation. he grumbled some and gave up, sprawling belly first into the sand. "you're tired already, fluffy? guess we can go back." finally, the eevee thought, wasting no time as they walked back towards the town from which they had passed through. finnian was busy snapping photos of the sea and the sun, not watching where people were going. the collision was inevitable, so to say.
the next thing finny knew, he was sitting in the sand and his head was bruised where his camera had bumped his forehead. he rubbed it in pain, rushing to salvage his camera sitting in the sand. "my lens!" he shrieked, trying to clean it out.

FOR ALL THE AIR THAT'S IN YOUR LUNGS
FOR ALL THE JOY THAT IS TO COME

[ SETH ] Ah, but the beach was a great place. Seth even heard someone exclaiming about the sea. It really was beautiful, and the weather was great for it today, too. Seth would have his Pokemon out to enjoy it with him--especially his water type--but he really didn't intend to spend much longer here. Seth took a deep breath and closed his eyes to fuly appreciate the salty air. He had grown up in a beach town, and this brought back plenty of memories. While he wasn't looking, however, Seth wound up tripping over someone. His foot caught on the person, and Seth tumbled forward, making a short yelp in surprise.
After hitting the sand, Seth groaned and rolled over. The sky was pretty today, too. Why did someone have to be in his path? Seth really needed to watch where he was going in the future; it would help avoid more awkward interactions like what he knew was coming. By the time Seth sat up, the other guy was yelling about his camera. Seth winced, hoping it wasn't broken. "Hey, uh, you okay?" He guessed the kid was taking photographs of the beach--and why shouldn't he have been? The fact that he had interrupted this and may have damaged the camera only made Seth feel worse.
The next thing Seth noticed was the two Pokemon that seemed to hang around the camera owner. They were two that Seth hadn't seen before, and he was dying to scan them into his pokedex. What were they? They were both cute and furry and Seth wanted to play with them, but he knew it wasn't the time. He needed to at least get this guy back on his feet first.
panic set into finnian quickly. he was carefully trying not to touch the lens, scrambling through his bag to find a microfiber cloth. he could only think of the months and years he had spent saving pocket money to afford this little thing. who knew that lenses could cost a bomb? and here his lens was, sitting in the sand like he could afford for it to do so. he gritted his teeth and tried to calm himself. sparky clambered onto his head and bounced excitably, the pachirisu watching in confusion.
fluffy cracked open an eye, wondering what was taking the screeching boy so long. eventually, the eevee with sand matted in his fur strolled up to see what was the problem. finnian looked like he was on the verge of tears. the teary eyed boy looked at his eevee, prized lens in hand and shaking uncontrollably.
"y-yeah..." he mumbled, clearly not fine. finnian tried to find the strength to stand on his two feet, but it was a feat in itself. it felt like a weight was pulling him down. fluffy butted him on the ankle, and finnian shakily got up. "i'm fine, i'm fine... um, i'll need to go and get this checked though..."

[ SETH ] The guy really didn't seem okay. Crying and shaking were not things that communicated feelings of being okay--Seth should know. These were the kinds of things Seth did when he was having a worse than usual anxiety attack. Is this how Seth looked when that happened? Yeesh. Seth winced, both at his realization and in sympathy. He had wanted to help the guy up or even put a hand on his arm in an effort to comfort, but any touch when Seth was feeling like this (any awkwardness always made Seth want to bolt) was hard to do.
"A-A-Are you sure?" Fuck. Fucking fuck. Seth hated his stutter, and it wasn't likely to get any better with how this situation was going. The kid really didn't seem okay--or, rather, his camera didn't and he was very distraught about it. Seth reached out to put his hand on the guy's arm to steady him, or something, anything. But he stopped the gesture halfway through, never making contact. Seth's hand hovered there a moment, starting to shake himself, before being drawn back and shoved into a pocket. Whoops, looks like the guy's reaction was spurring one of Seth's anxiety attacks. I'm sure that'll be helpful.
[ SUMMARY ] - Seth used Comfort! - The move failed!
seth was probably panicking just as bad. finnian forced a grin and waved his hands dismissively. "yeah! it'll be fine, no big deal..." he murmured, trying not to look too worried. his camera had seen worse, right? dunking it in sand wasn't the worst thing that could have happened. boiling magma or the water might have been worse.
"hey, seriously, it's fine, look, see?" he produced the lens, which looked a little scuffed up, but in manageable condition. he'd definitely have to get it serviced, although there was a sinking feeling that it wouldn't be covered by warranties. finnian tried not to appear too daunted by the thought of six digit figures nagging at the back of his mind.
"it was an accident, anyway. nothing much you can do about that, right?" a forced smile on his face, finnian dusted himself off and looked at seth. "you okay?"
[ SETH ] Okay. The camera was okay. Seth hadn't fucked up as royally as he had suspected. Despite the other boy's reassurances, Seth thought he saw scratches or other indications that the camera was damaged in someway. Sure, he could be over-reacting--okay, he was definitely over-reacting. The panic attack already had Seth in its grip, and it was going to take a little more to calm him down. Both hands hidden in his back pockets clenching and unclenching to relieve some of the stress, Seth did his best to slap on the face of someone not in the throes of an anxiety attack. "Y-Y-Yeah, it looks ok-kay." An accident. Right. 100% not on purpose. And no significant harm had been done, right?
"Huh?" Seth almost seemed startled at the question to his well-being. Fuck, he was being obvious about it wasn't he? "I-I'm fine!" Nope. Not fine. Redness had started to creep across Seth's face in embarrassment. He hadn't fallen as badly, so the concern shouldn't really be on him, he thought. His attack being discernible, coupled with the hated stutter, was the large cause for his feelings of awkwardness. Seth really needed some Pokemon to comfort him. Now. He should just bring out Sparks, but it would be such an out-of-place action right now.
