Sylvester found himself thoroughly exhausted now, taking a rest from his journey of the wilds at a bench residing just outside of the entrance to the Petalburg Woods. Taking a seat and laying his backpack on his lap, Sylvester leaned his head back and looked up towards the early evening sky. 'It's getting kind of late...I wonder how much longer until the nocturnal pokemon start waking up.' Which was why Sylvester was here, having scoured every last inch of the route leading to Petalburg.
Now he was going to examine every last inch of earth from these woods to Rustboro come nightfall, searching for a more exotic pokemon, secretly hoping a ghost type would show up, like his favorite pokemon Gastly. 'That would make my day...er, night.' It seemed the day had taken it's toll on Sylvester, beginning to close his eyes and grow excessively tired as he heard the footsteps of someone or something nearby, by the sounds of it approaching him as it grew subtly louder with each step made. 'Don't bother me, I swear I'll...' Too bad this was thought to himself, and not vocalized to whatever had been encroaching towards him.

Just another casual day progressing through Hoenn region's maze of routes, Dmitri set off with a kick in his step and a smirk stretching across his face. It's starting to get late, better not delay... He passed by a lonesome figure, passed out on a bench just outside the treeline. Except this trainer was familiar, perhaps Dmitri remembered him from somewhere... but just where and when, exactly? It all started coming back to him.
"H-hey! You're that Sylvester guy with the dinky Shroomish. Daisy, I think. What are you doing passed out on a bench?" Dmitri had to double back, rushing to confront the trainer. The last time they battled it was an easy win, perhaps Sylvester would toss another free win his way, here and now? Dmitri's face lit up with excitement; it had been a few days since last he challenged another trainer. But this guy was evidently napping on a bench carelessly.

Noticing the voice calling out to him, above all by name, Sylvester's eyes shot open, glaring towards the person. 'Who could it be...?!' Noticing the familiar face and voice upon opening his eyes, Sylvester let out a yawn before answering.
"Dmitri, huh?" Still taken back, it was a moment before his brain registered the inquiry made on behalf of the other trainer. "Uhm, yeah...not for long though. Kind of just...made my way through as fast as possible during the day so I could go see Rustboro."
Noticing that Dmitri hadn't any pokemon at his side, he wondered slightly about the whereabouts of his Swinub. It was a neat little pokemon, kind of cute. "My dinky Shroomish, huh?"'What a wise-ass...'"Whatever. Anyway, I'm here waiting for nightfall. I heard that some of the more interesting pokemon around here are only active during the night. What about you?" Waiting on an answer, he leaned back once more.

"I'm heading for Rustboro myself. There's a Gym there championing Rock-type pokemon, and I was thinking of challenging them... but I stand as good a chance beating Petalburg's Gym first. Don't have any idea who I should challenge first..." Sylvester seemed content to remain seated, and obviously had his own mission for the night. Perhaps it would be worth it to stick around, though Rustboro was his ultimate goal. Dmitri hunkered down beside Sylvester, though he gave them both enough personal space for wriggle room.
"I was thinking about catching some new pokemon myself, to make the gym challenges easier. But I'm not sure there are many of the right typing around here. What kinds are you hoping to find at night?" Dmitri was hoping to find out if the types at night were any more suited to combating the Gyms of Rustboro or Petalburg. If they weren't specifically useful, he might have still cared for them, but the matter at hand was preparing to face the Gym challenge.
"Maybe I could tag along with you? You can have first dibs on anything you're looking for, I might not want any of the pokemon we find, but Broski could use the practice." He shrugged and waited for Sylvester to iterate further. Perhaps tonight they would hunt for elusive pokemon, instead of wayfaring for Rustboro like Dmitri had originally intended. As long as pokemon were involved, it was fine by him.

"I didn't really get any specifics." Acknowledging the interest Dmitri took in his nightly venture to come, Sylvester sat up once he noticed Dmitri taking a seat on the opposite side of the bench. "Just that there are some pokemon that live a nocturnal lifestyle." Really, Sylvester wasn't big on specifics. Just the mere mention of some pokemon being more active at night was enough for him to go see it once for himself. Perhaps none of it were true at all, and now yet another soul would be lead on by lies.
"Yeah, if you wanted to tag along I won't complain. I don't have many pokeballs to spare, so I am sure you'll find something."'Though I will be taking the first dibs...' Sylvester was in need of some new pokemon, though perhaps Dmitri was in an even more dire situation. If he could help it, Sylvester would try to allow Dmitri to catch the right pokemon for him. Typically something that would be of help during the first couple gyms a trainer could challenge. Fighting, grass, water—many types were around here that could be of great benefit to Dmitri. What Sylvester had in mind was something more exotic, like a ghost type pokemon, or perhaps a poison type...
"Yeah, my pokemon could use some practice too. Though, admittedly I think I could get away with challenging the Petalburg City gym right about now. I've only been holding myself back intentionally to make sure that when I do, I actually win instead of making a fool of myself." Allowing a light chuckle to escape, Sylvester looked over towards Dmitri.
Post by Dmitri Khvostov on Jul 13, 2015 1:02:39 GMT
He shook his head. "I've caught quite a few. A Starly, Buneary, and someone traded me their Abra. There was also an Espurr, but I traded him too." Sylvester didn't object to Dmitri tagging along, and the notion that they might find something interesting was more than enough to pique his interest. If all else fails, we can just have a battle to say it wasn't all in vain. He rummaged through his satchel, trying to locate his pokedex before sliding through a few of the pokemon he'd caught, in case Sylvester wasn't familiar with some of them.
"When were you going to head out?" Slipping his pokedex away, he slouched back and tried to make himself comfortable. It would've been nice to prepare by adjusting his schedule, but with someone else there it would be easy enough to keep from falling asleep. Worst case scenario Broski would have to threaten to freeze Dmitri to keep him motivated.
"I wonder what we'll find. Maybe a Dark-type, those are pretty cool. But it wouldn't help me with the Gym battle so much." He was worrying too much, but Sylvester's remark about looking a fool just for losing made him so. I don't want to be a fool. It didn't seem unreasonable to suggest many trainers lose to Gym leaders requently, but Dmitri was aspiring to prove himself above par as a trainer. Following Sylvester's example was probably for the best.

"Ah, nice. You've got quite a few pokemon, then. Maybe you're better off than you seem to think." Of course, the same could be said for Sylvester himself as well. Though, Sylvester knew that the pokemon he currently had would not be enough to make it through all of the challenges that all eight pokemon gyms had waiting for him. There were too many pokemon out there to battle with and catch for a mere four pokemon to do him much good. Though, that didn't mean Sylvester didn't have faith in his pokemon.
"I was going to wait for nightfall, actually..." Looking over his shoulder, the sun had been looming over the horizon for quite some time, though now began to sink in its perpetual orbit. "So, its almost time for us to get going. You're not in a hurry, though, are you?" Sylvester wasn't in a hurry whatsoever. He wanted to take his time resting up, and even more time combing through the depths of Petalburg Woods. Who knew what they could find...
"Yeah, a dark type pokemon would be pretty neat to see. Honestly, though, I am not looking for anything like that. For all I care it could be a fairy type. Though, I already have one of the best fairy types. At least that is what a lot of people tell me when they meet my Sylveon." He grinned at the mention of his starter pokemon.
Post by Dmitri Khvostov on Jul 13, 2015 3:50:09 GMT
"I was originally sprinting for Rustboro City, but since you're here I might as well tag along. It should prove worthwhile, I think." He slid down in his seat and rested his head against the bench, though it was hardly that comfortable. And although it was satisfactory, he could not sleep quite so early. But his legs were sore from days of rushing past route after route, and by now the exertion had caught up.
'Ooooh, I got a Sylveon,' Dmitri frowned. "I heard they look wussier than Eevees? Isn't that like a downgrade? Nah, I'm just kidding. I know they're good." He sat down and pondered over whether he should try to go buy more PokeBalls before they started. Dmitri checked his wallet and found almost nothing there. That was a no.
"Hey, if you want to buy PokeBalls, my Abra can take us there really quick. Teleport has its perks. I'd buy some, but I'm going broke." He smiled, trying to impress with his own pokemon's attributes. If I get to the end of this expedition and I needed one more PokeBall than I had, I'm going to be furious. Perhaps it wouldn't come to that.
Have Abra use Teleport?

"Nah, I am good for now. I only have two left, but I want to focus on as least pokemon as possible for the moment. I'll look into getting more when I absolutely have to, like when I reach a gym where all of my pokemon are weak." It probably wasn't the best of ideas, but Sylvester didn't look forward to wasting money on pokeballs. For now he'd work on refining his team, rather than expanding it. There would always be time for that in the future.
Noticing that the sun was now, for the most part, sinking under the edge of the horizon, Sylvester began to shift around, sliding his backpack around his shoulders and fastening it tightly to his back. "Well, I suppose it's about time we get a move on. Do you want to stick together, or would you rather go a ways on your own?" Really, he had assumed Dmitri wanted to stick near him. Though, perhaps they would cover more ground if they spread themselves out. Honestly, either was a good idea. He'd let Dmitri decide.

"If we split up, you're not going to get dibs then, now are ya? We'll search together." Slouching back for a few moments longer, he watched Sylvester make himself ready to depart. I just sat down... It would do him no good to whine, however, so he stood up and stretched himself. Dmitri felt as ready as anyone might be after a day's walk.
"Hope I have a few snacks leftover, this might take awhile." Ransacking his backpack yieldeed a few nutty candy bars, which suited him just fine. At least he had options. Though somehow Dmitri wondered if it would be enough, especially if he intended to share with Broski and perhaps even Sylvester. ... Nah I'll keep it to myself. He stuffed his mouth with one said candy bar now, to avoid bringing it out later while hunting with Broski. He could smell the bars on his breath, he would devour them all if he caught wind of them.
"Shall we get going, then?" He said, his mouth crammed full of Snickers. Their destination: Petalburg Forest, and pokemon awaited them!
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jul 15, 2015 22:28:12 GMT
'This guy better not get lost.' Sylvester stood up and nodded, gesturing towards the Petalburg Woods entrance. As him and Dmitri made their way in, the sun gave its final vibrant shine for the day before darkness consumed the landscape ahead. The woods were thick, and any lights was chopped up in the dense forestry. "Just don't fall behind." Sylvester seemed to be in a hurry, feeling as though no pokemon waited near as of yet, not at the entrance.
Making sure to go in a ways before stopping to look around, Sylvester pulled out a flashlight, giving some of the bushes a thorough scan before trying to move ahead. "Guess we should have our pokemon at the ready, right?" Releasing a pokeball, the red hue of his most recently acquired pokemon filled the air before them. "Swablu!" It was loud enough to be heard by any pokemon nearby. "Quiet, Gunther." Looking behind towards Dmitri, he suggested for him to do the same. "Get ready to use one of your pokemon, Dmitri." Up ahead, Sylvester could hear the snapping of a tree. Or maybe just one of its branches, though still loud. It was almost as if the thing in question were acting out due to the presence of humans—like a warning.

"Quit worrying about me!" How easily he was disregarded by Sylvester was a bit of an insult. But regardless, their mission kept him on edge and on task. Rushing through the entrance, they covered a lot of ground in those first few minutes. Even so, nothing crossed their path as of yet.
"Bowser is my pokemon of choice." He summoned forth his Bug-type pokemon Skorupi. It was well adapted to a forest-based terrain. Additionally, he needed to acclimate to battling under Dmitri's leadership. So the choice was already quite clear.
"Maybe we're looking in the wrong place?" Just as he opened his mouth to speak, something made a move in the brush. Sylvester's flashlight shone brilliantly yet revealed nothing from the obscure scenery. Perhaps if someone wasn't busy talking, he might've centralized the sound's origin. Whoops.
It seemed they would need wait for the pokemon to jump them, instead of kicking up a fuss all around their home turf. Either way, something would show up sooner than later. Skorupi was ready to bring the pain.

scraggy holds honedge. they're a team, and even though honedge is sucking scraggy's life force, he'd risk it all for the sake of heroism. he appears before the two trainers, doing a swords dance and lunging at the skorupi with a fury cutter

'What in the...' This was unlike anything Sylvester had seen before, pointing his flashlight in their direction to make sure the two trainers could see what was going on before them. 'That thing is wielding...another pokemon?!' Unheard of, right? Apparently not, and Sylvester wasn't going to take his time asking any questions. His pokedex was already out, and now he had an idea of what to do.
"Gunther, use Astonish on that sword!" Reluctant at first, his Swablu soon made a swift flight, targeting the other pokemon and letting out it's harsh shout. "Again!" If his pokedex was accurate, that sword pokemon was weak to ghost types. 'It seems Gunther wasn't a bad choice...'
Post by Dmitri Khvostov on Jul 18, 2015 14:49:13 GMT
"Avoid their Fury Cutter!" Why won't they go after Gunther? This isn't cool, man. After all this was Sylvester's plan, if anything should go wrong it oughtta happen to him. Preparing with a counter-attack, Dmitri tried to determine who would be the more susceptible target.
I think Honedge is weak to Dark-type attacks... or is it the other way around, is Bowser weak to Ghost-type attacks? There wasn't a way of telling, unless he applied the question to this situation.
"Bowser, try using Bite on the enemy Honedge. Careful of where Scraggy swings him!" Skorupi raced forward, attempting to crawl around Scraggy unnoticed and bite his vibrant cloth. If he succeeded, he would quickly loop around from behind and come up front.
"Bite the—JUST BITE IT!" It's gonna hurt anyways. Bowser was dangerously up close, but he seemed to thrive in this environment. Cowering on the sidelines wasn't his style, and Dmitri admired that about him.
