Usa said nothing for the time being. Dmitri seemed serious, and he was caught up in the intensity of the moment. But why the grasping of the hands? The physical aspect of their...relationship?...whatever they would eventually call it, was something Usa was still not used to. He tilted his head to the side as he made a curious expression. Thank me for...? He smiled softly as he slowly wiggled his hands out of Dmitri's grip. "You don't have to thank me for any of those things", he said in a gentle voice. He adjusted his legs so that he could comfortably face Dmitri. "Well, maybe the being rude part...yes", he continued teasingly. He then grinned to show that he was, in fact, only teasing.
He swung himself back around and dug his palms into the grass. Using the ground to push himself into a stand, he turned to face Dmitri once again, this time wagging his finger at him. "You don't have to be so serious...". This was strange coming from him. He knew that. He was always more of the serious type. But, there was something about their exchange made him so relaxed that he chose to take a page out of hie brother's book.
He smiled in response to Dmitri's question. "Of course I want to hear. Please, tell me". He dropped to his knees and tried to make himself comfortable. With wide eyes, he awaited Dmitri's stories about his homeland.

"One time, there was an aurora unlike any I'd seen before back home. Massive, truly out of this world." He tried to spread his hands wide, but realized it wouldn't be enough to provide a scope of just how immense it was. It covered the entire northern sky in light, and the pokemon had all come to bask in its glamour.
"My parents said it was very rare, and that it was part of an old folktale." They never did quite manage to tell him the entirety of the urban legend, however, so Dmitri's account was sparse on the details. It was a legend; it was surrounded in myth anyways. Nothing was certain.
"It was beautiful, but the chills were nippy. I got sick for a week after that night. But..." Dmitri was getting to the good part, though it wasn't quite much to be excited about. Sure, it was interesting, but it was hardly credible.
"I saw an enormous bird, and it seemed to circle above the other pokemon, like it was some sort of shepherd. I've never seen a pokemon like it so far. Sometimes I wonder if the sky was just too dark to tell, but... it was glorious." He wished he had brought the feather with him. It was somewhere back home, and it told the story itself. Shame he hadn't brought it along.
"... My home was a small village, a few hours away from where this happened. There's always a fresh blanket of snow when you wake up, but the pokemon and the people there do a great deal to keep everyone warm and toasty." But by now he'd rambled on quite enough, and he wanted to hear something more about Usagi.
A feeling of admiration overcame him as Dmitri spoke of is homeland and the happenings of his past. A gentle smile intended to let Dmitri know how much he appreciated him sharing his story was all Usa could muster in the moment. The passion in Dmitri's eyes as he spoke sent chills down his spine. He must miss his home and family a lot.
Usa tucked a a few stray strands of hair behind his ear as his gaze fell to a wild flower that grew next to Dmitri's leg. His cheeks a soft pinkish hue, he smiled softly as he tried to picture the scenes that Dmitri described. An image of a young Dmitri running around in the snow popped into his head, and it made him chuckle.
He slowly lifted his gaze towards Dmitri as he fiddled with his fingers and tried to think up a good way to describe his childhood. He tilted his head ever so slightly and spoke in a gentle tone: "I grew up in this region, in a city called Foretree. We lived atop the trees along side mostly bird and bug Pokemon. The people were friendly and we were all proud of being from a city that had a strong gym leader" His eyes shimmered as some of the fond memories of his childhood began to come back to him. But, they quickly grew cold and distant. "Then...". He clasped his hands together and planted them in his lap. "Then we moved to Pacifelog Town, the town built on the water. It was fun there, though we left soon after, my brother and I, to start our journey". He flashed Dmitri a smile, and then repositioned himself so that he could lean back on the tree. After a few seconds of silence, he turned to Dmitri and asked: "Do you miss your hometown? DO you plan on going back?"

"Of course I miss home, wouldn't anyone? ... I don't know. I miss me Mum and Pa, but they're busy with the pokemon. They're revered breeders. I usually just got in the way, Pa would say." Somehow he understood why his parents were better with pokemon than him. Perhaps they wished he had been born a pokemon, but that didn't seem possible. Still, it made him laugh to think of family in such a peculiar way.
"If I go back, it won't be soon." It wasn't possible to tell yet; he missed home but he'd only just gotten here a few weeks back. There was much and more to do, see and experience. And Usagi would never leave Hoenn, which presented a problem for Dmitri. He brushed a finger against a wildflower betwixt himself and Usa. It looked mildly beautiful.
"You know, part of the reason I wanted to dance with someone so badly was to feel less... foreign. I've met some fantastic people here, but others aren't so kindly." He wanted to figure out why Usa didn't seem to share anything eventful. Maybe he's led a dull life? Dmitri refused to believe someone was amazing as Usagi could've grown up that way, however. I reject it.
"We should get going, I still want to take you out to dinner.~" He propped himself onto his two feet, bracing his knees and arching his back, inadvertantly flexing his muscles. Dmitri tugged Usagi up too, offering a hand before heaving him up as well. He could get back into his own clothes easy enough. They were dry and welcoming.
After they pushed forward a few yards, Dmitri said once more. "Thanks for that, back there, and everything. You're going to be one of my favorite memories of Hoenn." He blushed, hoping Usa wouldn't think him so dorky. I suppose it's too late for that. He strutted forward with a faint bounce in his step. Today was progressing greatly.
With their energy replenished from their brief stop, the two continued along the sunny route to Mauville. Usa walked a few steps behind Dmitri. He tightly gripped his water bottle in one hand, while he used his other hand as a shield to protect his face from the sun.
He stared intensely at Dmitri, taking care to examine every inch of his physique as he walked up ahead. He was taller and leaner. He had a sort of roughness that Usa lacked. This, Usa surmised, was probably because Dmitri was older. He took note of how Dmitri looked while walked. Good posture and strong shoulders. Must come in handy in a fist fight. Why was a fist fight the first place his mind went? Were tough guys his thing? Are tough guys my thing? He found himself fixated on Dmitri's shoulders. Whether tough guys were his thing or not, the beating of his heart grew faster with each subtle movement Dmitri's shoulder made. He watched them intently even as they slowly turned... His eyes shot open as he raised his gaze to meet Dmitri's eyes. Dmitri's sudden turn around caught him off guard. Dmitri's heartfelt words caused his cheeks to turn a bright red. Usa stuttered as he mustered a reply: "Thi-this...you're...favourite...". His entire face turned red as he dropped his gaze to the ground and quickly walked passed Dmitri. Without turning to look back, he yelled: "At least give me a little warning before you say embarrassing things, DORK!" His lips slowly curled into a smile as he reached up to feel the pounding of his heart.

"Nope!" Dmitri wasn't a fan of being called a dork, but he was getting under Usa's skin. It felt like a good thing, to know in some way, he stirred something in Usa. Even if it's a little bit annoying, I think he likes it. He wasn't intent on giving it up.
"Looks like we've made it." He pointed at a sign ahead; he couldn't make out the words from where he stood, but it was either that or some other place worthy of a sign such as this. Well, I guess that means... we go our separate ways. He didn't like the sound of that.
"Hey, uh... how about a quick battle?" He held a pokeball up inquisitively; would he take the bait? It had been weeks since they'd last battled, surely Usa would accept the challenge. Hoodini was already out of his pokeball by now, staring patiently.
"Who do you choose?" I wonder if he's raised that Absol much at all. I don't think it knew any Dark-type moves the last time I battled it... That meant it was perfect fodder for Hoodini.
Don't keep me waiting, Usa. Dmitri knew he'd come around eventually. He had a way of knowing this sort of thing. Or maybe he really just didn't want to think he was wrong about Usa.
Hoodini stood by!

The pounding in Usa's chest slowly went away. The sight of Dmitri raring to battle was reminiscent of the first time they met. Minus the rudeness on Dmitri's part, the memory brought a smile to his face. "Of course", he replied softly as he reached for Leonidas' pokeball, "Is 1 on 1 fine for now? I would really like to take a break from this heat".
A new Pokemon. I wonder when he caught it... He gave Dmitri's Abra a quick look over. Looks strong, but Leonidas has the type advantage. He flashed a grin as he tossed Absol's pokeball into the air. Leonidas soon emerged from the bright flash of light that emanated from the red and white sphere. Much like in their first battle, the Absol landed gracefully. The fur on his back danced as he tilted his head back to let out a strong roar, marking his arrival on the battlefield.
"Why don't I get this started", Usa yelled, "Use QUICK ATTACK, Leonidas". His voice was stern and his posture was upright -- nothing like it was a few moments ago. The soft pink hue of his cheeks were now gone and all that remained was the fierce glare of a battler. "When the chance presents itself, use QUICK ATTACK once more!"

"Ready your Dazzling Gleam!" Dmitri wondered why Hoodini was remaining so still. Perhaps he was entranced, or maybe he wasn't even awake right now? It had him very concerned about the turnout for this battle. What are you doing, Abra?!
You don't even know a single Dark-type move, do you?
Hoodini had been attempting contact with Leonidas, but what connection he got was fuzzy, the pokemon really didn't want him in there. But he could tell something was amiss, and probed for more details. I have to go deeper... Once he verified this, he went on to speak further.
As a self rule, I will not dodge any of your attacks!
Hoodini was attempting to build some confidence, something he ought not have done to himself. After preparing the attack Absol came in for a quick attack and his preparations made him vulnerable.
You-how are you still this strong?
It wasn't long before Absol came bounding in at him once more, and for a moment he pretended everything would be fine. That he still had a fighting chance if the pokemon struck him once more. But his vitality was already fading, and he dropped to the ground, exhausted.
I'm sorry, Dmitri, I know this battle meant a lot to you...
He fell backwards against the ground, and stirred no more, left to sleep off the mark on his smug pride.
No, I'm sorry I put so much pressure on you guys. Hoodini had already fallen asleep, and Dmitri scooped him up and pressed the pokeball to his forehead gently. Have some rest. He wondered whether a pokeball was comfortable for them, but figured it must be if they weren't cranky all the time.
"Well, looks like you won. Again." It wasn't a comfortable feeling, but he was glad to have kept Usagi with him for at least awhile longer. Whatever time I can get. "So... I guess I owe you dinner." At this rate, he'll be with me all night.~

The quick movement of his Absol, shocked even Usa. He couldn't help but let out a subtle "wow" as he looked on at his Pokemon attacking Dmitri's Abra. Will it dodge? Usa anticipated a psychic attack, but knew that Leonidas' typing would keep him safe. What he didn't expect, was the opposing Abra to know Dazzliing Gleam, a move that would deal massive damage to an Absol.
His eyes widened in terror, as he watched helplessly as Leonidas dashed towards Dmitri's Abra. He prepared himself to yell "dodge" in case Abra managed to fire Dazzling Gleam before Leonidas could connect his attack. To Usa's surprise, the Abra neither dodged nor used Dazzling Gleam. In one swoop, Absol had managed to hit the Pokemon for what seemed to be very serious damage.
But they were not out of the woods yet, Abra fired its Dazzling Gleam and it was barreling towards Absol in all its dazzling glory. The attack hit, and Absol was sent flying back towards Usa. Absol slowly stood up. It was obvious that he was trying to endure the pain from the attack. But, this didn't stop him. He dug his claws into the soil and lunged at the Abra again for another Quick Attack. The attack was successful...successful enough to cause Abra to faint.
Usa ran over to Absol and patted him on the head. After thanking him for his performance, he returned the Pokemon to his Pokeball for a long rest. Usa then ran over to Dmitri. His facial expression now more relaxed, he said softly: "That Dazzling Gleam surprised me". He smiled as he reached over to pat Dmitri on the back, "but, good match". He quickly turned and began running in the direction of Mauville City... "You can buy me dinner after we make sure your Abra is okay!"
