To say Kohaku had been surprised when he suddenly got a message that morning from Professor Birch was honestly an understatement. He’d given the old man his pokenav information so that if he ever needed anything he could get in contact with him. He’d heard the man had been doing it with a lot of the youth filing in so he hadn’t really thought it was a bit deal. He certainly hadn’t been expecting to actually receive a message from the man, especially not asking for a favor. Alas that is exactly what ended up happening that morning not that he really minded, he was more than content to help Professor Birch out. Apparently there was a young man Birch wanted him to help out a bit and pick up around Route 101, Kohaku had contemplated going back the way he’d came, he’d also contemplated turning the man down. He’d been attempting to get to Petalburg for days now and this would put him back a day or two. However…he wasn’t completely heartless and he did say he’d help out if Birch needed it besides Route 101 wasn’t too bad or too far from Oldale. A few hours or so perhaps.
So with a mildly exasperated sigh he’d returned the message stating he’d go pick the trainer up and help him out. To say the prof had been ecstatic was an understatement when he replied back to Kohaku, even giving the young man a picture of what the guy would look like. As Kohaku walked, he decided the blonde male was cute and he huffed at himself and his apparent attraction to all guys blonde, First Cain, then Avery and now this guy…this…Fuchsia eyes glanced at the name under the picture. Ezekiel. Gods the professor seriously owed him for this.
He was about to put his pokenav away when suddenly a blast of air shot past him and he blinked before a fond smile curled his lips. Scheherazade had shot past him in a full on canter, her long legs stretching out to gain more ground as she sped past before slowing down and pausing. She nickered lightly at him, a clear sign she wanted him to hurry too and he chuckled at her shaking his head. The filly pranced where she was, energetic after a long rest and being cooped up in her pokeball. He shook his head at her once more and stopped which caused her to stop as she looked at him curiously. When she recognized the game he was initiating she pranced in place again, a low whinny coming from her as she tossed her mane of fire. Without waring she turned and ran, Kohaku liked playing this game of chase with her whenever they were out on Routes.
Scheherazade loved this game, she got to feel like she could fly with how fast she ran as the wind whipped at her mane. It was exhilarating and for the moment she almost forgot why they were back on this road as they stopped once in a while to rest and catch their breath. Kohaku laughed as he gulped greedily for air from their run each time while she nickered her laughter, rolling in the grass. It was easier traveling back then it had been traveling to Oldale oddly but the Ponyta didn’t mind as she pulled up a little ahead of her human. He was farther back, somewhere behind her where she’d left him running after her. So she stopped to graze on the grass a bit, ears flicking forward as the sound of something caught her attention and she lifted her head to look at a strange pokemon…Well this was certainly one way to meet people.

Ezekiel had been sure that Astra had previously ran herself out of energy as she had been running all over the place interested in the slightest thing that struck her attention, that wasn't the case it seemed as the flash pokemon continued it's energetic ways. Astra seemed to have a knack for meeting new pokemon, she was always interested in seeing how they react to her presence. Ezekiel was okay with the fact that Astra rarely spent time by his side as she rushed ahead on the dirt path and he lagged behind, the blonde haired boy had informed his partner that if any sudden trouble were to arise then she was to shoot electrical sparks towards the sky. Astra noticed a horse like pokemon nearby and was eager to meet it,
"Hi! My name's Astra, what's yours?"
After finally catching up to Astra, Ezekiel noticed the pokemon sharing his Shinx's company. With an interested looked on his face Ezekiel quickly retrieved his pokedex and pointed it towards the fire horse looking pokemon as the familiar monotone robotic voice had identified what species of pokemon it was and begun to provide some basic information about it.
"Ponyta. The Fire Horse Pokemon. Its legs grow strong while it chases after its parent. It runs in fields and mountains all day."
After listening like a radar beacon to this new information, Ezekiel begun to take notes in his notebook so that later on he could come back to study what he had learnt during that days activities. As Ezekiel raised his head up from looking at his notebook the blonde haired boy's acute sense of hearing picked up the sound of human exhalation nearby, someone was running or had been running at least, so it seemed he wasn't alone. Ezekiel focused his sight towards the direction the noise had come from and the first thing he noticed was pink hair, Ezekiel could not make out if it was a female or male at first but decided the person looked like more of the later as they walked towards the Ponyta, Zeke was getting the impression that the person may own the Ponyta but was just going to stand back and wait for events to unfold.

The young filly blinked and backed up a few steps to take in the pokemon that had approached her, taking in her black and blue coat before paying any heed to what the Shinx spoke. Slender delicate seeming ears flicked forward upon the approach of another and fiery eyes settled on a blonde haired boy and she head tilted slightly, her fiery mane spilling over to the side as she did so. After a moment of studying the young man and recognizing the contraption in his hand she bent her head down a bit to be eye level to the shinx and nickered softly, introducing herself using the name Kohaku had given her and she’d learned to cherish. Scheherazade. He’d once told her it was the name of a woman, a Queen, from a story he loved called a thousand and one nights or Arabian Nights. To know he was named after something her trainer loved made her cherish it all the more not that she ever let him know that of course but all the same. She gave this Shinx…this Astra another curious look just as another sound made her ears swivel back and her head turn.
Kohaku had slowed his pace considerably, fuchsia tresses curling slightly around his face as his two long side bangs framed it. Identical eyes spotted his ponyta after a while, having stopped running after her when his sides had begun to ache in protest to all the running he’d done that morning in attempt to play with her. He stopped, pausing a moment when he realized there was someone and a pokemon by his ponyta and stiffened. He was aware there were people who were more than happy to steal pokemon and it made him antsy because Zadie was far too friendly sometimes. However, as he drew closer he was surprised to find that he recognized the person standing by Scheherazade but not because he knew them, no. It was because the person was Ezekiel, the boy Birch had wanted him to help out and escort to Oldale as well as assist in anything else he needed. He snorted softly at the irony of it all and immediately any trace of tension was gone. He heard his filly’s encouraging neigh and rolled his eyes as he mumbled, “Of course you still have energy.” She blew a brief raspberry in amused agreement at that sarcastic statement.
When he managed to pull up beside his ponyta he gave her a once over to make sure she was good, ignoring her antsy energy to run again for the time being. After a moment of having collected himself he turned and paused upon taking the other male in properly for the first time.
The photo doesn’t do him justice…
The brief thought wasn’t as brief as he may have liked but he brushed it aside after a moment and offered up a small smile and offered his hand to shake. “Ezekiel, right?” He shifted, unsure of what the other had been told so he simply plowed on like he usually would. “Don’t know what professor told you but…He asked me to come and see if I could lend you a helping hand.” A small warm smile that was more genuine than the first curled his lips, growing slightly when the filly lipped at his clothing in search for the treats he sometimes carried with him for her. She was too smart for her own good sometimes and now she was addicted to the treats.

Ezekiel wasn't surprised in the slightest that the pink haired person owned the energetic Ponyta, watching the pair get along so well together was the type of bond that Zeke one day hoped that he and his Shinx would share. Upon closer observation, Ezekiel had come to the conclusion that the pink haired person was a male despite his feminine looking appearance, the blonde haired male had learnt early on in his life to never judge a book by it's cover or discriminate against others unless he was willing to cop a serving back towards him.
Astra blushed in excitement when the pink haired male's Ponyta was so welcoming towards her, it seemed not every pokemon had a negative attitude like she had previously thought was the case. Ezekiel gently shook his opposites hand with a look of surprise on his face that the pink haired male knew his name, he would come to learn that Professor Birch was looking out for him on his journey by providing him a mentor. With a smile on his face the blonde haired young adult's attention was focused on the pink haired boy, the intrigue of meeting other trainers made Ezekiel want to acquire more knowledge on this person.
"That's mighty nice of Prof. Birch to look out for Me and for you to to accept his proposal!"
Ezekiel's attentive eyes drifted towards Astra the Shinx and the Ponyta keeping her happily company.
"Seeming as you already know my name, this is my partner Astra, she's seemingly always full of energy! Enough about us though, what's your name and whose your partner?"

It seemed as though Birch hadn’t said anything to the blonde haired male about his arrival and sighed lightly, not the least bit surprised that the man had forgotten to. He’d make sure to message him later about that but for now he was content in simply getting to know the blonde or at least getting through the introductions. Those were usually awkward and sometimes volatile when the person made the mistake of singling him out as a female. However, he hoped that this young man would be at least a little smarter than the rest of the male’s he’d met along this trip. He was cute after all and Kohaku liked to think that the cute ones were at least a little smarter than the rest, even as his thoughts reminded him of that one guy that had been cute and called him ‘nena’ of all things. He barely contained an amused snort at that memory but left it alone. His attention sharpening back on Ezekiel when the other male began to speak and he blinked before tucking a strand of hair behind his ear with an amused smile. “I’ll admit that my first instinct hadn’t been to accept but…I’m kind of curious now.” He shrugged slightly, “Although, it wasn’t really a big deal for me to accept. I wasn’t too far anyway since I was only in Oldale.”
Zadie’s ears flicked up and towards the two humans, her attention split towards their interaction and the Shinx as she soon found out was called Astra. That was a pretty name and she told the Shinx as much, fiery tail flicking in contentment as she did so. She and Kohaku ran into a lot of pokemon but this was the first time she’d run into this type and she had to say she envied the pretty blue and black fur on its body. She remembered vaguely that when she was much younger, there had been a rapidash of similar color in the herd. However, she remembered how much Kohaku tended to fawn over her coat and decided she was more than content with her own.
Kohaku glanced at his ponyta and the other male’s shinx before his attention was drawn back by Ezekiel speaking once more. He let his fuchsia gaze travel lazily over the blonde, studying him as he spoke before allowing the corner of his lips to quirk up in a half smile while his head tilted just the slightest. “Astra…that’s a nice name.” His gaze locked onto the pokemon for a moment and his smile was just a touch warmer as he murmured, “I’m sure it suits her perfectly.” His gaze flickered back to Ezekiel though and he offered out a hand to shake, “You’re right that was rude of me not to introduce myself first. I’m Kohaku and this is Scheherazade.” At the mention of her name, the ponyta’s head lifted and she looked over Ko’s shoulder to look at Ezekiel for a second. Vaguely she wondered if this was the human they were supposed to pick up before nuzzling Kohaku affectionately and going back to Astra, far more interested in the other pokemon.

Social skills weren't Ezekiel's strong suit, in the past the blonde haired boy had been known to stutter on the rare occasion as well as shake in anxiety, being in the presence of pokemon however seemed to calm his nerves though, especially with his partner and best friend Astra so close by. Introductions were awkward in Zeke's opinion, so much could turn on its head if the wrong were to be said, Ezekiel was paying extra attention to what he said before he said it, he didn't want to offend this new acquaintance in any way.
Ezekiel was keeping an eye on Astra and the pink haired boy's Ponyta, for two strangers that had just met it seemed they were like two peas in a pod, why did things have to be so easy for them. Ezekiel wasn't going to put on an act to impress the male known as Kohaku, he was simply going to be himself, even if that meant sharing a fair chunk of his nerdy nature. Zeke was interested
"Kohaku, that's a sweet name dude, not a name you hear everyday! Do you mind me asking if there is any particular history behind it? I remember researching the origin of my name and found out I share the same name as a Hebrew prophet!"
Ezekiel really wanted to get to know Kohaku, he seemed like a pretty chill guy and Zeke felt calm and relaxed in the pink haired male's company. At the mention of the boy's Ponyta's name Astra had a beaming smile on her face, the fire type pokemon had such a nice name.
"Scheherazade, that name suits your partner beautifully, it sounds like royalty to be completely honest!"
Whilst her jabber-jaw trainer continued to get to know Kohaku in his own unique way, Astra returned her attention to Scheherazade the Ponyta with eyes gleaming in joy.

To say Kohaku was surprised was an understatement, he honestly hadn’t expected the kid to do almost a one eighty on him but damn if it wasn’t a pleasant surprise. Ko could feel a slow, pleased grin curling his lips as he listened to Ezekiel speak with additional excitement and passion. That had been what the blonde was missing before and Kohaku found it made the other male much more attractive. There was a certain kind of life to him that hadn’t seemed there before or perhaps it had been but simply…dimmed? Whatever it was, he was glad it was gone now and he was suddenly privy to the young man who was currently standing in front of him. He cocked his head to the side a bit, the pleased smile tapering down to just the slightest quirk of Kohaku’s lips as he murmured, “You should be like this more often. It’s charming…” The slightest hint of playful tease humming along his lilting accent as he spoke to the young male.
After a moment or two of considering the young man’s question and what he’d said about his name, Kohaku let out a soft chuckle. Shaking his head just the slightest he spoke up, “I haven’t actually looked up the meaning of my name before. I never thought to but…now I’m kind of curious. Your name sounds pretty interesting though, maybe I should look up the meaning and origins.” He tapped his chin in playful thoughtfulness before he spoke again, “You would think I would know considering how important the meaning of names are from where I was born.” He didn’t often reference to his original home, the one where he’d left his father and sister when he went with his mother. However, those were thoughts he didn’t want to have for a moment and as though to banish the thoughts his hand fluttered over his pokeballs where his other pokemon lay in a gesture for discreet comfort. It would look only as though he was distractedly checking to make sure they were still there.
A soft hint of rosy color dusted across the fuchsia haired young man’s cheeks at Ezekiel’s words and Zadie nickered a soft chuckle at it. He flicked her distractedly and she tossed her head a bit before turning back to Astra, still amusing if her soft huffs were anything to go by. Kohaku tucked a lock of hair behind his ear and chuckled in mild embarrassment as he replied, “I actually named her after the female protagonist in my favorite story. Arabian nights or…hmm some people know it as A Thousand and One nights as well.” Not very many people knew he had a love for reading things like that, let alone myths and legends. He simply shrugged his shoulder and glanced away as he murmured, “I’m pretty much into that and myths. I even have a Goldeen named Hera and a Ducklett named Thanos.”
Scherazade nickered softly in amusement at her human’s clear embarrassment in having to admit that…yes he loved fantasy and fiction. It was a weakness of his other than falling to sleep in random places, especially trees. However, at Astra’s compliment the ponyta gave the other female a shy look feeling a little bashful suddenly. She wasn’t used to other’s saying nice things about her, granted most of the people they’d met were people who wanted to battle not gaze in awe at her. She pawed at the ground shyly and nickered her thanks at the Shinx, praising Astra’s name and how unique it was.

Kohaku had a certain aura surrounding him, one that allowed Ezekiel to feel at ease, an occurrence that Zeke found strange for someone he had just met. Always observant, Ezekiel noticed that when Kohaku stopped speaking the fuchsia haired male checked to make sure his pokeballs were still exactly where he hoped them to be, it seemed Ko may be nervous, everyone had their own unique quirks so Zeke took a mental note of Kohaku's.
"Sounds like your about the same level of obsessed with fantasy and fiction as I am! That's so cool!"
Ezekiel's mind was full of potential questions to ask, however the blonde haired male did not want to overload his new acquaintance like it were a game of twenty questions. The blonde haired boy's tummy begun to rumble, Zeke had forgotten to eat breakfast this morning and was starting to feel hungry, his habit of over-packing was finally starting to pay off as Ezekiel remembered he had made two fresh wraps with meat and salad on them and enough pokemon food for two pokemon. Ezekiel did not want to be rude in how he approached Ko.
"I could seriously ask you a plethora of questions, would you like to have lunch and continue our discussion over lunch?"

A light dusting of pink colored the other’s cheeks but a pleased smile curled his lips at the blonde young man’s words. It wasn’t often someone could appreciate a love for fantasy and fiction like he could, it was usually just pokemon or battles for the people he’d been meeting on the road lately. It was nice to have met someone who was obsessed with something else and someone he could share with them as well considering he loved all kinds of fantasy and mythical things. He let out a thoughtful hum as he said contently, “It’s nice to finally meet someone who shares an interest with me that isn’t pokemon.” There was only the slightest hint of teasing in his voice, otherwise he was completely serious. It was nice and he just thought he’d let the blonde know he appreciated that the blonde had that little feature and had opened up to him in order to show it. “I usually meet people that only have battles and pokemon on their mind.” His thoughts ruefully going to professor Birch before focusing back on Ezekiel and not for the first time he wondered how old the blonde was.
Kohaku, to say the least, hadn’t been expecting the growl that came from Ezekiel’s stomach and blinked in shock before a soft chuckle erupted from his lips. However, he certainly hadn’t been expecting the blonde male’s invitation to lunch and gave him a curious look, cocking his head to the side slightly. He gave the other a thoughtful look before he shrugged his shoulders with a little smile. “I wouldn’t mind at all and feel free to ask whatever you want.” He paused a moment and gave their pokemon a thoughtful look before he spoke up again, “Did you have anywhere in mind?” Were they going to go straight to Oldale then? Or did the blonde want to go back to Littleroot? His eyes briefly flickered towards the other’s pack and arched an eyebrow vaguely at it and how heavy it looked. However, he didn’t comment on it, instead waiting to see what the other had in mind for ‘lunch’.
Ezekiel was certainly an interesting character, someone that seemed rather lively after a few moments after meeting him considering how he’d been when Kohaku first bumped into him. He wondered if that was why Birch had decided Kohaku would be best for helping him out…then again it could have just been that Kohaku was the closest. The Fuchsia haired young man had been taking it easy, not really rushing to get to the next town but then again there’d been reasons for that. That brought another question to mind and he gave the other male a curious glance and asked carefully, “If you don’t mind me asking…just how old are you?” Kohaku himself was perhaps much older than he appeared considering most tended to take him for mid to late teens but he didn’t tend to make that mistake with others, just assuming their age and such.
