I know it's a shallow start but I noticed that Nik and Cissie had pink hair and red eyes. Would it be possible for them to be related in some way? Such as cousins or maybe uncle? They're not close by any means, maybe met each other once or twice "at the wedding" of her parents, prior to his leaving to Team Magma. (Prince Philip style where he first met the baby in Sleeping beauty. That idk about this face.) She called him Gigi.
I just saw where he had his own agenda and life possibly not knowing what happened to her and that side of the family, but maybe recognizes her when she's out and about. That curious 'why are you here?' because it seems so unlike her to look the way she does, in the non designer clothes and be hanging out or in a place that wasn't posh and surrounded by her clique.
He may have also given her Peppermint, her swirlix, as a gift.
