It hasn't been long since Aries left Professor Birch's lab. Half his life has been spent preparing for this point - all those hours in Rustboro's trainer school - all leading up the start of his pokemon journey. And he's spent way too many nights dreaming about his very first pokemon and what it would be like.
To say he's disappointed is probably an understatement. This isn't how he pictured the start of his journey at all. Truthfully, Aries was expecting something much more... well... cute. And Porygon was definitely not what Aries would call cute. It was a bunch of red and blue blocks stacked together. And Aries wasn't the least bit impressed. There were over seven hundred pokemon out there, and he just had to be stuck with the worst one ever. This was a complete nightmare.
At least he had this stupid egg. Also red and blue - well, more turquoise than blue, really - and heavy as hell. It didn't even shake once yet, and Aries was certain it would be a while before this thing was even remotely close to hatching, but at least once it did, he wouldn't be stuck with this silly man-made piece of garbage.
He looked over at the floating bunch of blocks and paused to think, "Alright, I think I'll name you Chaos," he decided with one finger over his lips. The Porygon looked delighted - at least, for an artificial piece of junk. "Lets hatch this thing," he said, referring to the egg he was currently holding like a baby, "and maybe get you trained a bit while we're at it, how's that sound?"

I WILL GRAB MY FREEDOM WITH MY OWN HANDS.
An exasperated yawn exited his mouth, after all he was exhausted from the travel down to littleroot. There wasn't much excitement he had from the journey he was expected to go on; Magma HQ gave him a much better pokemon than what he was given from the professor.
Granted, it was all personal preference and he was aware of that. Sam shuffled the backpack he was wearing so that it was positioned on the opposite shoulder he had it on before. He had used the pack to carry necessity items for his journey, but it was now housing an egg as well. That was a good thing, the cyndaquil egg. The ditto however... Not too impressed, even thought it was a rare pokemon. The logical part of him thought of pawning it off on a breeder later, but the more sympathetic part of him decided that it'd be better to keep it for the ride. It could transform, and it could be really fun to use in a battle. 'Kind of random... like the game of roulette.'
"Well I named it, there's no way I'm not going to get attached to it now." There was truth to that. Low and behold, having been an orphan himself at one point Sam had been the one at his foster parent's to come home with strays. He'd name them, get attached to them, and get upset when they had to be given away because he wasn't a trainer and couldn't catch them. That stopped after the carvanha incident, kind of gained a hate for water and water pokemon after that. He chuckled at the memory.
A memory that derailed when he saw another person with a pokemon hovering around them, egg in hand. Curious, he walked up to them. "Uh, hey!" He called out, "What kind of egg did ya get from the Professor? I got a Cyndaquil." It was kind of abrupt, but at least it wasn't the other thing that came to mind, which was rather awkward. Then again, he was also assuming... Since he got his own egg from Professor Birch and the daycare was pretty far away from Littleroot.

Aries is startled by the sound of another person. Of course, he wouldn't be the only person getting their starter - Professor Birch must be busy all the time with new trainers starting their journeys and all - but the fact that someone had so easily snuck up on him was startling nonetheless. Aries turned around and smiled at the newcomer. A young man, with a bag slung over his shoulder. He certainly seemed nice enough.
"What kind of egg did ya get from the Professor? I got a Cyndaquil."
Aries looked at the boy in front of him and then down at his egg. He really didn't have to look in order to know what pokemon it was, but the only other option was keeping prolonged eye-contact, and Aries wasn't sure he was ready for that quite yet. "I have a Gible," he replied lightly, smiling as he looked back up. He shifted the egg in his arm and shuffled his feet slightly, "I'm guessing you just came from Professor Birch's lab, too?" He mentally flinched at his stupid question the moment after it tumbled out of his mouth. At least it was conversation... things hadn't delved into awkward silence territory... yet...

I WILL GRAB MY FREEDOM WITH MY OWN HANDS.
His head tilted to the side in thought, a gible? That kind of brought back his sourness over the ditto he got earlier, but he shook those thoughts away ; a smile forming on his lips. “That’s pretty cool.” He spoke in a light and enthusiastic tone. The other asked about him coming from the Professor’s lab, and Sam blinked.
“That I did.” He noted and pulled out a pokeball from his belt buckle, clicking the button on the ball and allowing a flash of light to shine out of it. “Got… this blob.” The Ditto made a child-like squealing noise and slid back and forth in a hyperactive motion, practically trying to glue itself to its trainer’s leg. Sam took a deep breath in and out as if trying to repress a shudder, and reached down to pat it on its head. Despite the gelatinous form, it wasn’t actually all that slimey and felt like cool puddy.
“…I named it Roulette. Made it impossible to get rid of-“ He stopped himself, wincing at the idea of being so mean like that. He hated the thought of abandoning it, he loved pokemon, which only made him feel worse about mentioning it. “Sorry, I shouldn’t be looking to get rid of my starter. Its still a creature right? Still alive?” The ditto made a small whine, looking up towards its trainer; the suppose-to-be-permanent smile formed into a frown. Sam whispered an apology to the pokemon as well, and motioned towards the porygon. “I like the Porygon, actually. It looks nice.”

"Yeah" Aries mumbles. He's fine with having a Gible - once it hatches. Which, according to Aries, feels like forever from now. He'll have to use Porygon in the meantime, and he's not even sure what the polygon pokemon even does. For all he knows, it could explode any moment.
Aries eyes light up when the other boy releases his pokemon. It's a cute pink puddle with a plain face. "A Ditto!" the chestnut-haired boy exclaims in excitement. He frowns at the strangers words, though. It seems like he's just as unhappy with his starter, and Aries feels slightly guilty about naming Chaos, because he'd done it for the same reason. Which this stranger totally didn't need to know about.
“I like the Porygon, actually. It looks nice.”
Aries flinches. He can't help but think how much happier Chaos would be if it was this guy's starter... But Aries has already decided to train it, and he's far too stubborn to back out now. Besides, he has a feeling Jackson would laugh at him for trading his first pokemon away so hastily. Not that he would trade. "Yeah, I guess; I named it Chaos - I figured it fit, y'know?" Aries shrugs, "But not as nice as Ditto. I mean, you basically have every pokemon in one small package. Which is super neat, right?" he says enthusiastically before taking a breath to calm down.

I WILL GRAB MY FREEDOM WITH MY OWN HANDS.
Sam looked back and forth between the trainer and Porygon, when his eyes landed on the Porygon one final time he gave a nod. "Yup!" He said simply, agreeing that the name fit the Pokemon. Being the nerd he was though, he probably would have ended up naming it after some computer program. But it wasn't his pokemon, didn't mean the idea of getting himself one didn't cross his mind.
Sam was brought back out of his musings at the mention of his ditto, and he let out a "hmm" sound. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I didn't think of it that way, as much as it was a pile of goo-" He cut himself off again, not wanting to offend Roulette, it was in earshot. "But yeah, think I could run into a mart that sells ability capsules? I think the problem I have with Roulette is that they don't seem to have the ability imposter. Its not that I care that much about abilities; I'm not all that competitive, I just think yelling out "transform" would be a bit wasteful in a battle?" He mused a bit, tilting his head to the side before shaking his head.
"That's probably not important. You know, you have two evolutions you could get with Chaos. Porygon 2 and Porygon Z, despite being man made its very pokemon-like and not a hostile as some other things..." He cringed, thinking about other human-made Pokemon, Genesect and Mewtwo. It kind of reminded himself of Magma, they were both made by very shady organizations - and yeah, he'd admit Team Magma was pretty darn shady, but he had to bite back those thoughts. It'd be awful if he started having second thoughts, this was a good thing, they wouldn't go cloning Pokemon for world domination.
Suddenly he let out a nevous laugh. "Oh man, listen to me talk! I am so sorry! I'm going on a tangent here. Um, my name is Samuel Carter, but you can call me Sam, I prefer it actually." The smile that was on his face grew slightly into one that was more sheepish. "Err, nice to meet you."
Post by aries bellflower on May 22, 2015 6:51:50 GMT
Aries nodded at the other trainer's words. He understood most of it, of course, having been in trainer school for so long. He was mostly amused by how much the other could talk. But then he went on about Porygon, and well... Aries couldn't help but frown. He was a complete hypocrite - here he was telling some guy how he should love his pokemon because of how cool it was, and here he was doing the exact same thing with Chaos.
"Yeah, I mean... I guess Chaos is pretty cool... but..." he trailed off, his mouth suddenly dry. It's not cute like other pokemon. He winced. He was such a little baby here. He shook his head and grinned at the other boy, "You're right, I should give it a chance, huh?"
"Um, my name is Samuel Carter, but you can call me Sam, I prefer it actually."
That's right... they hadn't properly introduced themselves yet, had they? And here Aries was going on, talking like they were already friends. He gave Sam his best smile and introduced himself, "I'm Aries Bellflower... You can call me Aries, though, no nicknames or anything here," he let out a small laugh, as if he'd made a funny joke or something.
Sam blinked a few times, they were pretty much thinking the same thing about their pokemon weren't they? It was kind of ironic. "Yeah you should. You never know, you may grow attached to it." He felt a bit hypocritical saying that, but he realized that's why he was holding on to his Ditto so closely. There was most likely a silver lining to this, he just had to find it.
"Alright, nice to meet you Aries!" He said cheerfully, and his Ditto tried to imitate his cheerful tone of voice. "You a fan of mythology at all?" He asked. "You know, I'm completely sorry for randomly coming up like this." Suddenly the sheepishness was back and he had to shake his head to move off from it.
"I mean, I hope I'm not- Eh nevermind. Say, you want to be friends?" He had to stop himself from laughing, because of how awkward that sounded. "Woah okay, that's an awkward question on my part. Woops."
I am so sorry, I literally had a brain fart here and wasn't able to get anything that didn't sound awkward. /dies I mean unless you wanna battle or something, eee.

"Yeah you should. You never know, you may grow attached to it."
Aries almost opened his mouth to say 'doubt it', but reconsidered. He didn't want to sound like a complete asshole, Samuel was only giving him tips, after all. It would be a shame to disregard them so casually.
He found himself laughing at Samuel's words, "My parents, actually," he got the question often, either that or something about constellations and astrological signs, "they thought I'd grow up strong," he laughed and flexed his arms jokingly. His sisters, of course, shared the same fate. "It's no big deal," he waved off Sam's apology like it didn't matter. Aries was lonely, anyway, since he and Jackson went in different directions on the route. He could use the human company.
"I mean, I hope I'm not- Eh nevermind. Say, you want to be friends?"
Aries felt bad laughing. He covered his mouth with his hand, biting the skin on his thumb to keep from being obvious, "Relax. You're cool," he said, waving his hands in front of his body gently, trying to get the other boy to calm down, "yeah, we can totally be friends," Aries smirked and winked at Sam. He was definitely an interesting guy.
we can totally battle! aries isn't very good at it, though, so he'll probably lose...
The other made a gesture with their arms to signify what their parents meant, and he found himself laughing as well. Sam was growing more comfortable, that was a good thing. He found it easier to conversation when he wasn't constantly worrying or something, it was completely out of character.
"Well what if in the end, your parents are right all along and you become god among trainers." He tried to keep a straight and serious face, but it failed and he broke back into the expression he had had before. He was trying not to laugh, since he didn't know if it'd be considered offensive or not and honestly, he wasn't that type of person. "Maybe apply to be the elite four, first elite member to own a Porygon." Sam kept the lighthearted smile the whole time, and his ditto shifted forms ever so slightly so it could snake up his shoulder before turning back.
Surprisingly, the teen didn't shiver this time. Probably because he was use to Wisp being clingy. "Hmm, say... Hey Roulette, transform for me will you?" He asked the pokemon, which gave a joyful response and shifted; still sitting on its trainer's shoulder, resulting in a porygon sitting in its place instead.
"Why not test drive our pokemon in a battle? Whatya say?" He patted the imitation on his shoulder, and the fake!Porygon made a slightly echoed chirp noise before hovering off over to the side, giving a twirl and moving its new feet up and down in motion to try and get use to being so far above the ground.

Aries found himself laughing easily. Sam seemed like such a nice guy; easy to get along with, too! And, well, flattery got you everywhere when it came to Aries - Sam was right on the money with his comment. Aries flexed his arms in a different position, jokingly showing off what little muscle he had. "Yeah, I'm sure my parents would be so proud," he joked. Actually, he hadn't contacted his parents in a while... now that he thought about it, they probably didn't even know he was on this whole pokemon journey... But then again, why should they care about him when they had his adorable little sisters?
"Yeah, Chaos'll sweep the floor with anyone who comes near it," he let out a sarcastic laugh. He still wasn't too sure about that one. The Gible, on the other hand... that could be useful.
Aries's eyes widened as he watched the ditto transform into Chaos. "Oooh wow!" Porygon sure looked way cooler when it was opposite Aries... Or maybe it was because it wasn't really a Porygon, just an imitation? Aries felt a shiver of excitement go down his spine when Sam suggested a battle. "I've never actually battled another trainer before," he said, nervous and excited at the same time. "I've read about them in school, though," he waved it off like he was an expert.
"Since Roulette transformed, I'll go first," Aries suggested, and without giving Sam a chance to respond, Aries went into full on battle mode, calling out his first attacks, "Use Conversion!" Aries ordered. He had no idea what the move was supposed to do, but the Porygon looked over at him with an almost skeptical glance, so Aries supposed it wasn't the most useful move... He winced and decided to try again, "Okay... Tackle attack,"
With that, Chaos rushed forward through the air, aiming to knock the copy Porygon to the ground. At least it's trainer knew something useful...
> PORYGON TRACES DITTO'S ABILITY, LIMBER > PORYGON USED CONVERSION (nothing happenED) > PORYGON USED TACKLE
it's no problem ~ i've been super busy with the event thing anyway ~ also, aries is an idiot and is sorta testing porygon out, here, because he doesn't really know much about the pokemon, yet.

I WILL GRAB MY FREEDOM WITH MY OWN HANDS.
The battle started abruptly, with Aries not giving Sam enough time to react on getting a strategy out. However as quickly as it started, it derailed; if there were any music present it would slow down to a dramatic halt. Sam really hadn’t much experience as a battler either, but his own pokemon gave him a confused look that he returned himself. Shortly after the glance they gave eachother, Sam found his pokemon being slammed into with a tackle. It was time he got his shit together.
“Roulette, get your act together.” He called to the ditto rapidly flailing its new head back and forth. “Use sharpen, and retaliate with your own tackle attack.” As the order had been called out, Roulette suddenly straightened up. Its edges gleamed with a shine that wasn’t there before, and its already rough edges seemed to increase in sharpness. It made a noise that could be taken as either recognition or a battle cry, and turned its legs like a spring. Once they were wound up completely, the pokemon charged forward into a tackle.
“Conversion turns your pokemon into the type of the other pokemon, or whatever move they used last... One or the other.” Sam’s lips curled into a sheepish grin and he put his hand behind his head. His parents hadn’t been strict on him as a kid for nothing, the pokedex was pretty useless to him all things considered. But he had to keep it because Birch was asking all the ‘kids’ that got their starter to go around collecting the information. Plus it was something to read in his spare time.
“Actually I think this is Roulette’s first battle too.” He laughed, his pokemon shot him a look and he only laughed harder. “Okay maybe you’re right I shouldn’t judge it too hard.”
