hello calamity! we're nearing the two months mark in a few weeks. how time flies! right now we have two things going on that need your participation. the first is an activity check! it is impotant that you check in so you don't lose your face claim. the second is the otm nomiations! we're doing it a bit different than last time. so please submit your nominations in. a vote thread will be up in the next few days. there will also be a formal event coming very soon, so keep your eye out for that. keep being cool!
we're currently about to host calamity's first contest in slatepor. trainers are flocking to the city to see, the city's been trying to get good pr since the gala, and it seems to be working! they're asking for both coordinators and volunteer judges to sign up.

Petalburg seemed empty as its usual denizens were busy preparing what had become the norm- a large-scale beach festival for the lovely trainers who had all reached the first stepping stone on their journey: Petalburg town, home to a gym leader and a beach. So why not? Such silly sentiments never really caught on with Julius and he was one of the few foreigners in Petalburg who, instead of preparing for the festivities, would be enjoying them. He actually wouldn't be if he could have had his way with it, but apparently he had already promised a girl an ice cream date at the festival. So that meant he'd have to stay here until everything was over.
Fine then. He'd plan his next moves here.
So that was how, on a heated afternoon Julius found himself enjoying the rarity of shade provided by a darker alley. He was wearing a clean shit and pants get up- perfectly formal but working well as casual as well, and his pokedex was being used to rest his chin. A thinking position.
And just as well suited, too, since he was thinking for himself and not quite for the others around him and he was too deep in his thoughts to care or notice that his feet were stretched a bit too far across the alley and would easily serve to trip anyone who tried to walk through.
His eyes were also closed behind the protective covering of his glasses, so he worked well as a victim. Not that he couldn't defend himself, of course. He just looked a like a tad too innocent of a guy wandering in a dark alley most definitely not suited to him. Beyond a shadow of doubt, Julius was out looking for trouble to find him.

He was still exhausted from that Litwick draining most of his energy, but he now had to deal with his Ditto refusing to stop clinging to him. It was like trying to shake bubblegum off his shoe, and man did the feeling manage to keep him awake... Besides, he needed it.
The other thing that woke him up was that Petalburg was filled with festivities, as if the trainers who came here made a milestone. However, to him, it wasn't much of one - in fact, Rustburo would be more worth celebrating than this small town. That didn't stop him from taking in some of the glory; have fun while you could right? So that left him with a big grin on his face, trying to keep up the look of a new trainer who just made it to the first city with a gym attached to it.
"Do you think the gym is open, Roulette? Or do you gander we look at Rustburo's first and come back later?" He questioned the small blob perched on his shoulder like a bird. The ditto chirped, but truth be told the young adult couldn't understand a lick of what it said. So he shrugged and found himself an icecream pop and stuck it in his mouth; sucking on it softly in thought as he walked through town, exploring what little it had to offer.
He stopped at the pond and sat down, Ditto sliding off of him and poking the water. Sam stared at the pokemon in confusion briefly, before poking the pond water; causing the Ditto to squeal happily. He doubt that it would sense his discomfort around the liquid, after all he had it for such a short time, or would it? It seemed to be ridiculously happy that he had remotely touched it. Then again, he himself was relieved that nothing came out of it and tried to bite his finger off.
The bonding moment seemed to stop instantly though as the Ditto ran off, and Sam freaked out. "Roulette, what the heavens is your problem?!" He called out to the pokemon, who by now was - surprisingly fast - heading into one of the more shaded areas of town. By the time Sam had caught up to the small blob, it was hopping up and down around another person who was busy in thought.
"Ugh this is why I keep you guys in your pokeballs." The teen groaned, bending down and picking (very carefully) the gelatinous substance called a pokemon up. "I am so sorry about this ditto, its... young." Sam gave the ditto a light tap on its head, scolding it for the sudden offhand behavior and... worrying him like that.
Said Ditto squealed and poutted, very obviously assuming that the person infront of them was sulking instead of thinking.

Surprisingly the pokedex was a very good chin rest, and it supported Julius's thoughts well enough. He was thinking about a lot of things, ranging from the mysterious Rory to the spontaneous Andrea, from Cassandra from route 102 to Eli from the bar. Every line of thought he came up with different problems and solutions, and yet all of them revolved around one thing. He needed to get his team stronger. Just about to back away from his thoughts and head to the gym, Julius felt a highly disgusting slithering on his foot.
And when he turned to look he saw the last thing anyone wants to see jumping up and down their legs- a sentient blob of violet goo with creepy eyes and misplaces pseudopodia to spare. In his shock her let the pokedex he was hlding drop to the ground, and he jerked his leg and attempted to get the thing off of him. His pokedex rang out immediately, even though its screen had hit the floor.
Ditto, the Transform pokemon. It has the ability to reconstitute its entire cellular structure to transform into whatever it sees. The ditto had come crawling back at was at his foot again when Julius bent down to retrieve his slightly cracked pokedex.
A teen came to retrieve his gelatinous ball, and Julius could not hide his disgusted face. "Seriously? What a...wonderful pokemon you have there," he said, mouth curled into a sarcastic smile that was still half-plagued with disgust so it didn't look nearly as intimidating.
Julius never did like the concept of apologies (ironic since he was a revenge monger), but someone he was too revolted to want to get back at the teen any time soon. "Don't apologize," he said, but the words seemed hollow, given how he was holding and staring at a slightly cracked pokedex and an annoying voice that wouldn't shut up.

He bit down on the Popsicle in his mouth hard, taking in a large chunk of the blue frozen treat and swallowing it uncomfortably, nearly breaking the stick in the process. However, despite the sorrowful look his eyes gave, he refused to say anything more. The glitched voice of the cracked pokedex's description of his starter echoed in his ears, only stopping to the louder sound of a pokeball recalling a pokemon.
His ditto was recalled silently, and with his hands now free Sam took the Popsicle back out of his mouth. The young adult opened his mouth to say something again and then closed it, resulting in an elongated sigh. "I think its problem was... It thought you were sulking?" He felt like talking to this person might start a fight he didn't want to be involved in. He hated unnecessary conflict. However, he forced the gut feeling down and continued forward.
"Silly or not, there's a festivle going on. Might do some good enjoying the scenery for a bit - what little there is anyways." Whether he sounded rude or not, he didn't entirely know - he just hoped that he didn't. So without anything further he put the Popsicle in his mouth and started sucking on it again, leaning against the nearby wall and looking out at the party.
Why did he not up and leave? Eh part of him reveled in the quiet, part of him was curious, and part of him (the responsible side of him) in all honesty thought he owed the person something for breaking the other person's pokedex. Even though breaking it wasn't his fault, it was Roulette's squishy gelatinous form. The form that somewhat made him want to return it to the Professor for another pokemon.

Oh great, and the offender was a little kid eating a popsicle. Julius shouldn't have even been surprised at that; it was just his luck with eighteen year olds. He was still half retracting himself from his thoughts when the boy offered his explannation of things, to which Julius smiled a tired smile. "Just be sure to check after your...ditto next time." The pokedex finally decided to shut up, and an eerie stillness filled the alley when Julius put it back in his bag. Thankfully the kid quickly filled it with a bit about a festival, and Julius nodded.
"Yeah, you're right. Small town festivals must be great. So many years in Hoenn yet this'll be my first." His thoughts were mostly to himself, and he tried to control his anger for now. It wasn't really necessary to get revenge, given how it was the fault of the pokemon. His best bet would be destroying the ditto in a pokemon battle, but he really didn't want to. It wasn't even like he was mad- the whole pokedex project was quite a hindrance to his real goal.
In an attempt to lighten the mood, Julius laughed a bit to himself and said, "Well there goes that task from professor Birch. Poor him. He really needs sunlight instead of staying cooped up and greeting aspiring trainers all day." At that point his smile was a lot more natural, and position more relaxed.
"Julius," he offered, still not quite at the point of shaking hands with the boy, but more than easily looking at him with an even gaze. They were both leaning against opposite walls, and to one end there was an even darker alley, and looking through the other you could see the people putting up welcome banners and volleyball nets for the activities. Deciding he didn't want to let the conversation sputter and die like a flame, he picked up the remains of it and put the pokedex fiasco behind him.
A small smile started to form on his face and Sam chuckled a bit at the quip. "Probably. There's about a million people at least trying to fill it up as well. Kind of surprising no one's done it yet." He replied, leaning back more comfortably against the wall. He had finished most of his popsicle by now, and he had enough courtesy to take it out of his mouth while talking.
Then that smile managed to dissipated almost instantly, a loud cracking sound filling through the alley as he broke the popiscle stick in half; having had decided to finally finish it but had bitten down too hard. Sam choked for a brief moment, stick falling out of his mouth and onto the ground before it could make its way down his throat.
Looking back at the elder male, his eyes would have shown a slight flash of anguish before going back to their lightheartedness from earlier, and despite that they still seemed significantly darker. "No not really. I was born in Johto, I moved here a few years ago." He spoke softly, as if trying to keep his tone lowered. One could deem it suspicious, but in all honesty he just hated bringing up his past. It always manged to through him into a state of primal panic, whether he liked it or not. His tone was instantly brought up above the hushed noise of before with the continuation of the sentence. "I lived in Pacifilog Town, then moved to Lavarige before going to Littleroot to start that whole journey thing for Professor Birch."
At saying that, he pulled out his own pokedex and fumbled around with it. Putting it back when he almost dropped it. From there, he started to move out of the ally and into the bustling festive-dressed town again. "Anything you want to eat, Julius? I know you said I shouldn't apologies, but I feel really guilty for Roulette breaking your pokedex like that. I'll pay."

"Tell me about it," He said, rolling his eyes at the sheer number of people waddling around town with the pokedex in hand thinking themselves to be the greatest trainer on the face of Hoenn. There needed to be some pokedex control measures or something. "Makes you wonder just how many Pokemon there are...it just how incompetent trainers are." He paused for a bit, an then looked at Sam hoping the slightly arrogant remark hadn't been taken too seriously. "No offense though, since I take it you're a trainer as well?"
Just as he asked that there was a sputtering an a breaking sound, and Julius wondered if the question had caught him that off guard. "Whoa! You okay?"
The popsicle sure wasn't. It it the floor and started making a little puddle o it's own fluid, and Julius thought how karma worked as well. Although a broken pokedex should be taken more seriously than a popsicle, Julius would happily take what he was given. When the boy looked back or a split second the male wondered if the Popsicle hurt him that bad- but instead it just seemed like he wasn't too keen on explaining where he was from. Interesting.
He didn’t flat out say no (which would have technically answered Julius’a query, albeit in a curt manner) but rather tried to explain things while simultaneously skipping out on details. Dodgy, for sure.
But then Julius’s line of sight followed Sam’s lead, and he decided that the festival would be better than just siting here an suspecting people he already didn't take too much of a liking to.
"Hah, well how could I refuse an offer like that?" he asked, a smirk returning to his face as Julius in ally got around to being more comfortable around the brunette. "I heard they have really good fish during the beach festival..." his voice trailed off as he started walking towards the exit of the alley, suspiciously looking back to the shadier region as if he saw something. "Besides it would be a nice change a scenery," he mumbled, but then quickly turned forward again. Oh great, he was getting paranoid thanks to his last run in with a magma grunt.

He wasn't quick to dismiss the look Julius gave back towards the alleyway, tilting his head slightly to try and look behind him and see if there was anything there. It made him a bit skeptical; why would something be lurking in the shadows? That crossed far beyond the creepy territory and right into what the heck is wrong with you territory. However, just before Julius turned around Sam straightened his head up and put a giant smile on his face, eyes darting around for any sign of a place that sold food the requested food.
"That's a good idea, fish is good." He went on as if he didn't notice anything and began to walk to the nearest sea food stand, gesturing for the other to follow. Not that he believed an indication was needed, but regardless. As he approached the stand, he began talking out his wallet and fumbling around to check how much money he had on him. Satisfied, he looked up to the person managing the stand with a light look on his face.
"Just Sushi for me please." He responded as the manager of the stand asked for the orders, and Sam then turned towards Julius. "What would you like?" He said, completely unphased by the fact that he just ordered himself raw fish that was a hit or miss depending on the person. Eh, its not like he was aqua. He better enjoy it before either of them got to Groudon or Kyogre, either he'd suddenly become allergic to seafood or it would become a rare delicacy. He'd rather it be a delicacy than growing allergy because of a giant--
He caught himself before he could go off into space thinking about it. That conflict wasn't something to think about right now, or worry about, it wasn't on his plate right now because Sushi would be and he would be eating it.

The gigantic smile that Sam gave him was definitely suspicious, and Julius gave him a strange look as he passed, but was unwilling to say anything. He'd met all kinds of crazy people in Hoenn so it wasn't like it was the first time. He mentally did a shrug and continued to walk with Sam, although he had a particular place by the sea in mind. He nodded, letting out some "Mmhmms" as Sam restated the universal fact that fish was delicious.
But then when they reached the place, Sam ordered sushi and Julius gave him another sideways look. "I could never stomach that stuff, to be honest," he said, and let out a laugh, remembering how a friend of his had dared him to eat it before. "Just some trout for me."
He sat down in front of the booth and smiled up at Sam. Eventually his order came and he sat down. They started talking, and Julius decided it had been far too long since his last human conversation with a perfectly normal male. The day blurred by, and it was good having made one more connection.
