Traveling in the early morning had its benefits. Route 101 was an extremely busy route; it was the first route any new trainer, breeder or coordinator traversed before they arrived at Oldale Town. Not in the mood to deal with copious amounts of trainer traffic, Basil hit the road as early as possible. It was around seven o’ clock in the morning; the sun was just creeping over the horizon and the air was crisp, cool and refreshing. It was as if nature knew that Basil’s journey had begun, and had set everything up so that the guy’s journey would be smooth, enjoyable and without any problems.
… If only that was the case.
Basil trudged down the path, his sneakers throwing up small clouds of dirt with each step. A single Pokeball was clutched in his hand. On it was a bright green sticky note. It read:
“Crazy ass motherfucker.”
His heart dropped. How the hell did he get stuck with a Pokemon like this?! Carefully, Basil looked left and right; there seemed to be no one in sight. That sticky note couldn’t be accurate; this all had to be some kind of joke, right? Breathing in and out, Basil prepared to release whatever Pokemon was stored within the Pokeball.
He rests easy laying in the branches of a tree as the sun rises. He's peaceful lost in a dream as the sun peaks through the branches hitting him lightly. It's not until he's the opening of a pokeball below wakes him. Lazy eyes trail to the earth below spying a darker skinned man, who seems to be nervous, restless maybe?
He's interested in what has the man nervous and so he makes his way out of the tree. He has leaves caught in his clothes, and his hair is unkempt but he greets the man with a smile an orange larva like pokemon following him down, mimicking his trainer. His feet hit the ground lightly, a wary smile on his face.
"Yo friend, what brings you out this early?" It's apparent that he's not fully awake yet, but it was the start of his journey an early start wouldn't hurt.

A voice grabbed his attention. The newbie trainer looked up attentively, dark-colored eyes settling on the approaching red-head. Leaves were stuck all in his hair and clothing, giving him the true appearance of a “nature boy”, someone who was one with the outdoors. The stranger wasn’t alone; a Larvesta followed closely behind him, the wooly moth instantly recognizable by Basil. Being a native of Unova, Larvesta were one of the region’s native and most known Pokemon.
When Miles first spoke to him, Basil stared quietly, slightly confused and lost in thought. Wait, did this guy just come out of a tree? “Uh …” The twenty-three year old ran a hand through his hair. “I’m heading towards Oldale Town. I’m … a new trainer.” He then held up the sticky-noted Pokeball for Miles to see. “I’m very new, so new that I really don’t know what to make of this Pokemon I have. Do you see the note on it?” There was a brief pause. “I haven’t even let him out yet. I’m not sure if I should. Should I?” Basil tilted his head down, spotting the Larvesta once more. “Woah. You have a Larvesta? Where’d you get ‘em? As far as I know, they’re pretty hard to find,” the Unova native said, rubbing his chin. “Are you a trainer too?”
The other man is more sociable than he realizes initially. His smile grows ever so slightly the sun beaming on them now. Just as he's landed Larvesta is now next to him, the little pokemon is wary of both men still not used to his trainer. He reaches down allowing the bug pokemon to scuttle up his arm, it's happy to be at eye level.
"This little guy is well known?" is eyes trail to the pokemon on his shoulder. "Didn't know you were famous little dude." The pokemon continues to reach for the leaves and foliage caught on his person as the men continue to speak. The man spies the note on the white haired trainers pokeball a little confused.
"I mean I dunno man, I wouldn't let someone elses opinion worry you, only way to really know is to see for yourself, feel me?" He pets the larva pokemon, I just happened upon this guy on my way to Littleroot, the professor saw and allowed me to keep 'em. But why not open the pokeball now see what you're in for."

"I'm from Unova. Larvesta are pretty popular over there since they're one of the native bug-types ... or whatever you want to call it," Basil informed, shrugging his shoulders slightly. The Larvesta wasn't too interested in the conversation; instead, he (even though it was actually female) was more focused on messing with the leaves in Miles's hair. "Yeah, you're right about that. Opinions shouldn't matter too much. Still—" Basil eyed the ominous Pokeball once more, mouth flattening. "Who would go out of their way to leave a note like this, only for it to be just a lie?" He had a point though. Even though Basil was initially reluctant, he finally found it best to just go through and see what the deal was with this particular Pokemon.
"Wait. You just found that Larvesta walking around, and the professor let you keep 'em?" Sheesh. Miles was incredibly lucky; Larvesta weren't exactly common Pokemon and it wasn't every day that one willingly approached a human. Shaking his head, Basil finally tossed the Pokeball to the ground. The bi-colored sphere cracked open with a bright, white flash. Once the light dissipated, a male Gligar appeared into view. Now, that would've been fine and dandy except this certain Gligar was huge. He came up to Basil's neck, meaning that it was around five feet, four inches tall. His body was covered in scars, some more severe than others. A ripped-up, tattered black scarf was wrapped around his neck. The ground-type's narrow pupils scanned the three before immediately focusing on Basil. Basil froze, temporarily unable to act or react.
"Holy shit."

"Oh you're from Unova well welcome to the boonies, man." He nods casually, turning to trodden dirt path ahead, "Don't have too much here other than great weather and a decent atmosphere. Why start your journey here friend Unova from what I've heard has always been an exciting region, perfect for a good journey." There's a tinge of curiosity in his voice as the continue The larvesta still happily munching away at the little foliage left on his person. He's curious about the man's reasoning's for coming to Hoenn however he's far more interested in the pokemon tucked inside the pokeball, as the white haired trainer is about to call it out he looks on with a strange sense of anticipation.
The ball opens, they're all wide eyed, even Larvesta is now watching interested in what appears in the flash of light. Purple is revealed, pincers and a sharp tail not entirely for show if at all, in truth the pokemon is almost as tall as he is. There's a calculating look in the pokemon's eyes that tattered black scarf has tells stories of the pokemon's past on its own. Miles looks more wary but stands firm, in truth he's worried about the pokemon's trainer who seemed more than slightly excitable.
"Looks like a strong pokemon friend." He attempts to get the ball rolling.

The boonies? Hoenn was considered the backwoods of the Pokemon world? Basil couldn't really see what Miles was talking about; to him, Hoenn was just as populated as the other regions. Then again, perhaps Miles did have a point. Hoenn was always praised for its beautiful sights and natural locations; perhaps that's what led Miles to make such a comment in the first place. That, along with a whole blend of muddled thoughts, rushed through Basil's head. No, he couldn't think about that kind of stuff. Right now, he had a scary ass Pokemon in front of him, one that looked like it could tear him apart limb from limb effortlessly.
As soon as Miles spoke about the Gligar's apparent strength, the Johto Pokemon looked over his shoulder. He sized the red-head and his Larvesta up, analyzing them, observing them. The stare was unnerving, the gaze of an apex predator. Then, he looked back at Basil, eyes narrowing. He then circled the dark-skinned human, looking him up and down. Basil remained frozen, too nervous to move. The Gligar stopped in front of Basil once more. A fanged smirk curled across his face; he shook his head, like he was disappointed. "Uh. Yeah. Uh. I'm Basil. I guess that makes me your trainer. I guess," the newbie hesitantly explained. The Gligar didn't move though the sharp-toothed smirk remained; he looked incredibly amused in a sadistic kind of way. "There was a note on your Pokeball about you being ... crazy," Basil informed his starter, deciding to use a euphemism instead of the exact words written on the sticky-note. "That's not true, right?" Almost on cue, the dual-type's grin widened so much to where all of the sharp, white teeth in his mouth were visible. Basil looked more and more horrified. He quickly looked at Miles.
"... Does this answer your question from earlier?"
OOC -- Noooooo. Don't look for it. You'll never find it. Miles Serran
As the flying pokemon circles it's trainer Miles watches on passively only half way focused on the scorpion pokemon itself, but truly interested in Larvesta's reaction. The bug type was watching the pokemon with interests it's sharp claws and tail wasn't what truly has the pokemon's attention is its ability to fly. Is it jealousy in the pokemon's eyes or longing? Miles can't put a name on it, but he stays silent for now. Instead he brushes over,
"I think he likes you." He smirks casually at the other trainer, Miles by the way." He glances at the sun that only seems to get higher as they stay stagnant. "Maybe we should all move on while we acquaint ourselves. Before we hit the rush of morning travelers."

"Do you not see the look on his face?" Basil said with lowered eyelids. That didn't stop the Gligar from smiling demonically at his trainer. As if to test the young adult's mettle, he took a quick step towards Basil, getting all up in the trainer's grill. Basil immediately took a quick step backwards, not wanting to get too close to his starter; he liked having all of his limbs in tact and attached to his body.
For a moment, he eyed the Larvesta, noticing the critical look in its blue eyes. It wasn't looking at Basil specifically, but rather the Gligar. Was it sizing him up too? Maybe that was just something that Pokemon did with one another. Basil had seen several Pokemon battles on television and before the battle started, the fighting Pokemon always seemed to size each other up in order to get a feel for how powerful their opponent was.
"Yeah, let's just get going," Basil hastily agreed before heading down the road. His pace was quickened at first before he had to consciously tell himself to slow down. "I don't want to deal with trainer traffic if anything; that's way too much stress for me. Plus, you know how trainers tend to act." It all went to that bullshit rule of compulsory battling if eye contact was made. The Gligar followed closely behind Basil, a predatory look in his eyes. "People tend to give Pokemon ... nicknames, right? What should I name him?" Basil jutted a thumb over his shoulder towards the giant, scarred-up Gligar.
OOC -- Noooooo. Don't look for it. You'll never find it. Miles Serran
He shrugs casually, "I mean it's a bit overzealous, then again I don't think you always have to follow it." His eyes focus on the other man a small laugh escaping him as Larvesta looked onward also happy to get a move on, "I've definitely caught your eye a couple of times now and we've yet to battle."
He rests his hands behind his head as they walk, "I mean we could battle I suppose if you wanted, but I don't care either way, No need to force it, and It'd be a pain if a wild pokemon appeared and one us couldn't battle." The conversation momentarily switches into nicknaming pokemon, something that was more than common yet something he's yet to give any thought to. "Nicknames... I think the just come eventually no point in trying to force one now you know, I feel like we'll know when the time comes."
The conversation falls into silence for a moment, broken only by the sounds of pokemon scuttling in the grass and eventually Miles' voice. "So whats Unova like heard it was a busy region if nothin' else."

"I thought being overzealous was part of the job description when it came to Pokemon training." Hey, Basil did have a point, even though his statement was a broad generalization of how Pokemon trainers tended to act. A lot of them were in it for the fame, the recognition, the immortalization of their legacy. Basil was in for different reasons, more down-to-earth, personal reasons. "You're not asking for a battle, are you?" Basil asked, arching an eyebrow. The Gligar immediately perked up at the mention of battling; oh, he definitely knew what that meant and he absolutely loved it! A competitive spark burned in the pink bat's eyes.
The mention of nicknames caused the dual-type to ponder quietly for a second. He did have a name, but he didn't feel like revealing it just yet. No, he had to make sure that this trainer would be worth his time before he bothered with introductions and names. "Unova's busy, very busy, but it's a really nice region to live in, at least to me," Basil responded, rubbing his big nose. "At the same time, there's always something happening there, whether it's for the better or worse. Team Plasma's the reason for a lot of that." He shook his head. "What about Hoenn? Are you from here?"
OOC --You'll never find One Piece. Can we just go home please? :'c Miles Serran

He doesn't miss a beat in his response trailing along all the while Larvesta continues to focus on the flying gligar she waves he stubby legs at the other pokemon for some reason or another, perhaps it's her way of saying 'hello', Miles doesn't know enough about the pokemon yet to confirm. As expected it's turning out to be another beautiful day in Hoenn, a bit warmer than he'd have liked, but a beautiful day regardless Hoenn summers were known to be some of if not the hottest in the world, the only real rival were Orrean summers and that region was for the most part a desert.
"Would you accept my challenge if I was?" There's a smirk on his face now, "Not right now, I don't think. I'm sure if you're up for it we'll have an opportunity somewhere down the line." His eyes flash to Basil, "Like I said being stuck out in the middle of a route with no able bodied pokemon isn't really ideal." Team Plasma becomes the next topic of interest, an organization he's heard about them hearsay and various rumors concerning the extremist organization. "The guys who believe pokemon battling should be annulled entirely, right?" It's been a debate since battling began honestly, the morality of pokemon battling was a large gray area in the world today, but most people and pokemon alike seemed to enjoy it, and so time and time again the issue was swept under the rug only to reemerge every so often, thanks to organizations like, Team Plasma.
"Yeah, born and raised. Didn't get much into pokemon for a number of reasons when I was younger, but my pops was a trainer so I thought I'd try my hand, I've always wanted to travel so it's also a means of seeing the world for me." He seems distant for a moment, a number of thoughts and people swirling in his head before responding with a question of his own, "Why'd you become a trainer?"

Pokemon battling was a controversial topic. While most people and Pokemon had no issues with battling, there were others who saw it as unethical and downright Pokemon abuse. To them, Pokemon shouldn't be forced to battle for others' entertainment and the effects of Pokemon battling on the battlers were traumatic and long-lasting. "I don't think it'd be a good idea for me to battle now honestly. I still haven't gotten used to this trainer stuff." It was a honest statement, one that needed to be said. Gligar frowned in disapproval; that wasn't the answer he wanted to hear. He didn't know why these two were worried about wild Pokemon. Gligar knew that he could handle whatever came their way single-handedly. Plus, that also meant whatever poor sap he thrashed would end up being free lunch for him! The Larvesta's waving caught the dual-type's attention, and almost nonchalantly, the scarred bat waved a meaty claw back at the bug. It was more to satisfy their curiosity than anything.
"Yeah, that's Team Plasma. People actually take them pretty seriously since they go out of their way to battle trainers and take their Pokemon away from them. I guess they have a point, but they should go about it a different way in my opinion," Basil said, rubbing the back of his neck. "It really doesn't make things any easier when they start causing trouble all throughout the region." Miles was born and raised in Hoenn, confirming Basil's suspicions. His father was a trainer and that was what ultimately led Miles to try his luck at the profession. It was a sound reason for doing so. Plus, it allowed him to travel and see the magnificent, expansive world they all lived in. Then, another question popped up. "Why did I become a trainer?" Basil repeated. Gligar started listening intensely, very curious of his trainer's answer. "... Uh. Well, I work at a Pokemart and I kind of wanted to do some more than just that. That's the main thing. I still work at the Pokemart but they're paying me still to travel and do Pokemon training and research and ... stuff like that." He hoped that was a good enough answer. "Is there some kind of big goal that trainers shoot for or something?"
OOC -- You're paying for the smoothies then. Miles Serran
"Goal?" He stops for a moment, "I'd say the most general goal is to become the champion, however each trainer is different. Some want to master a specific type of pokemon, others want to prove themselves to the world. There are some who just focus on making friends and enjoy watching their pokemon get stronger. There are even people like me who wants to see and experience things no one else has. Pokemon are the goal for some while for others they're just a means." He's thought about this a lot, and in truth he doesn't have an entire answer yet, when it came down to his goal. He isn't lying when he says he wants to explore, but still feels there's more to it, more he's yet to discover not only about the world, but about himself. "Overall i'd say the goal in a pokemon journey is whatever you make it to be. Find something you wanna accomplish and just go for it." He looks through the canopy as he speaks the sun shining through parts of the path, "If you're a bit lost then i'd say challenge the gyms and take it one step at a time."
It's a little more complicated than that, but he doesn't want to overwhelm Basil nor does he understand all of the nuances of the journey himself. Right now he just puts one foot in front of the next as they travel the dirt path and hope for the best. It was all he could do.Larvesta seemed happy to be noticed by the purple pokemon and now wished to walk on its own scuttling down the man's body and onto the ground beside the trainers and pokemon alike.
"I wouldn't of guessed you worked at the pokemart though, I used to part timed their for awhile, but it wasn't exactly the most exciting job you know? Anyways you been to Oldale town before?"

Pokemon training was a lot more complicated than he had originally thought. At first, Basil thought that trainers just went around and did whatever they wanted without any particular goal or destination in mind. However, that was soon proven false once Miles gave him insight into what a trainer did and their typical motivations. "... Pokemon Champion, huh?" Basil muttered, still keeping up a steady pace. Gligar was still listening as intensely as before, pointed ears perked up. "I may just shoot for that. What do you have to do in order to become the Champion of a region? Do you just beat all the gyms or what?" Although he did work at a Pokemart, he still wasn't too familiar with how the whole Pokemon League functioned and what not. Pleased with what he heard, the Johto Pokemon gave a toothy grin; that's the kind of stuff he wanted to hear, not about Basil sitting around with this thumb up his ass.
"Gyms are those places where people go to learn how to train a specific Pokemon type, right? Where's the closest gym from here?" Was he ready to challenge a gym now? Hell no, but it still wouldn't hurt to know where the first one was. "Yeah, working at a Pokemart isn't the most exciting job ever but it brings in the money in. Plus, you see all kinds of interesting customers every single day so it isn't that bad. In fact, that's what stops the job from getting boring and old: the customers and their Pokemon." He shook his head slightly. "I've never been to Oldale Town. This is my first time being in Hoenn to be perfectly honest with you."
