True to their word he along with his companion continue on the beaten dusty trail after a small, but surprising breakfast. In the time passed he meets two faces in particular that he doesn't expect to see again, or at least not so soon. More over the two were friends of sorts, he thinks they may even more than that if he's entirely honest. One with red hair and a kind personality similar to Basil perhaps even more gullible than the man beside him, the other hardened and fierce at a glance it's obvious the other knows pain. However they don't stay for long the group of four decides to split up into groups of two making a new meeting point, Petalburg City. The two much like himself seemed to be in a hurry to get to the coastal town as well, he believes they're also attempting to make the event. if all went well he believes they'd be able to participate in the event together, and that would be a site to see.
And so we arrive in the present the two continuing on their path pokemon at their side. They walk in silence for a while he's content with nature and digesting his meal until finally he decides to break the silence thoughts of the opposite duo still fresh in his mind.
"Basil, you have a girl back home, or maybe a guy?" The question is light hearted enough perhaps its a bit personal, but it served as a topic nonetheless.
The stop in Oldale was much needed. After hours of walking, Basil's legs were killing him. Sure, they knew how to work him to death at the Pokemart but this whole Pokemon training business was on a whole another level. Even if the break was short, it still gave Basil some time to relax. While the two stopped in Oldale, Basil visited the Pokemart to make sure that he had everything he needed. Then, Scar, his Gligar starter, constantly diverted his attention towards some items the Pokemart was selling. One of them was a Razor Fang, as said by one of the attendants. Apparently, Scar wanted the thing really badly since it was tied to his evolution and all. So, Basil bought it, handed it to the Gligar and he hadn't seen Scar since. "Wait, what?" the dark-skinned male said, snapping out of his deep thought. It was clear that he was worried about something.
"No, I don't have a girlfriend ... or a boyfriend." He shook his head. "Why? What made you ask that?" His eyes peered up towards the setting sun; by the time they would reach Petalburg, it would probably be nighttime completely. "Hey, have you seen Scar lately by any chance? He's been gone ever since I bought him that Razor Fang." A worried frown slid across his lips. "I hope he didn't just ... run off."
"What you don't have a sweetheart back in Unova waiting for you're return?" The sarcasm is palpable as he continues jokingly, "A handsome goodie two shoes like you not having someone waiting back home, that's too sad dude." What was once a chuckle has become a full blown laugh at this point, that is until his traveling partner asks why he was curious in the first place.
Prior to the question the dark skinned man seemed lost in his thoughts, even answering his mind still seemed to be elsewhere. "Nah I saw some guys back there that made me think about relationships, you know? I'm definitely not hitting on you if that's what you thought." The sun was setting now, but he was confident the two would make it to Petalburg by the time of the event, however instead of concerning himself with that Basil began to ask about Scar changing the topic entirely.
"I'm sure he'll be back soon, you two have a strange connection, was he acting strange prior?"
Basil lowered his eyelids. All of this talk about relationships was starting to make him get a headache. He thought he had gotten away from all of that nonsense but apparently he hadn't. There was nothing wrong about pursuing and maintaining a relationship but it was something that Basil couldn't be bothered to do. It took too much time, energy and patience in his eyes, even if it was all for a romantic interest. "I'm pretty okay; trust me," the Unova native mumbled, brushing off Miles's teasing with a dismissive wave of a hand.
Miles kept on talking about relationships and Basil still listened, even if he was thinking about other stuff. "..." Slowly, Basil turned and side-eyed the red-head after hearing Miles claim that he wasn't expressing romantic interest in Basil in any way, shape or form. "Um ..." Clearly, Basil didn't know how in the world to respond to that. Scar's whereabouts still worried him. "He was acting strange when we visited the Pokemart in town. He wanted me to buy something called a Razor Fang," Basil explained, still walking forward. "I bought it for him and as soon as I gave it to him, he didn't let the thing leave his sight. Then, when I was ready to leave, he walked with me for a minute or two and then he just disappeared. It was so strange. He didn't let me know where he was going or anything." The twenty-three year old frowned. "He didn't just leave me, did he?"
"So best case scenario is he's coming back soon, worst case scenario you were robbed by your first pokemon." He chuckles as they move through the route his pace slightly faster than normal. He has something to look forward to, something more than the festival, but that's a topic for later if that.
He thinks on his partners situation wondering why the pokemon was acting so stranger, or rather stranger than it normally was. "Did you two get into a fight or something in between, last I saw you two were getting along famously I think you should have some faith in him, after all you two are gonna work for the whole champion thing right, Mr. Main character." In truth Basil reminds him of television protagonist straight laced with quirks working toward a supposedly admirable goal, even his pokemon was far more unique than any he'd seen thus far. "If you'd like we can turn back and search for him." It would push their schedule back considerably, but if he were to lose Sola he knows he'd do the same.
“You’re helping so much,” Basil replied sarcastically, groaning as he ran a hand through his messy hair. He didn’t want to think of the possibility of Scar using him just to get his meaty claws on one of those wonderful Razor Fangs. No, it had to be more than that; surely, he would return soon, right? Nonetheless, a myriad of possibilities ran through Basil’s mind. He replayed the day over and over and over again, desperately trying to fish out any clues that would point towards the reasoning behind Scar’s sudden disappearance. “No, we didn’t get into an argument or anything. He really liked that Razor Fang though,” the twenty-three year old answered. There was a brief pause. “Did you just call me Mr. Main Character?” Where did that come from? Honestly, Basil couldn’t even see what Miles meant by that; the redhead was truly an enigma, a jumbled-up puzzle that hadn’t been pieced together yet.
“Well, I think we should go back just to see if he’s there or not,” Basil muttered, guilty that he was delaying their trip to Petalburg. “It shouldn’t take that long. It’s just—“ He froze. Up in the skies, far away from them, a Pokemon flew through the air. It was hard to make out exactly what it was but it was heading straight towards the group and it was coming in fast. As the creature got closer, its form became more apparent. It was a scarred-up Gliscor with a tattered, black scarf wrapped around his neck. With an agile swoop, it hovered over the group, large, yellow eyes zeroing in on Basil. Then, with a heavy thud, the eight foot tall bat landed directly in front of Basil, growled in pleasure and flashed a shark-toothed grin.
It wasn't a scream, as much as it was a shriek. Miles wasn't so much scared as he was surprised attempting to put two and two together. He slides his pokedex from his bag searching information on gliscor, and there in the description he found it. "Dude I figured it out." His voice is neutral as he speaks poking the darker skinned man's shoulder, "You said you gave him a razor fang right? Gligar evolves when its holding a razor fang." He can't help but chuckle as the man continues to freak out Sola waving casually at the pokemon as if nothing had changed. Perhaps there was something slightly different that being the fire pokemon looked at the evolved pokemon in a slightly more challenging way. Miles knew all too well how this would end up.
Scar’s shark-toothed smile widened tremendously after he witnessed the group’s reaction to his sudden arrival. Intimidation was exactly what he was going for! Yeah, he was scary as a Gligar but now Scar was pretty sure he could make people shit their pants at will from fear alone. As Miles messed with his Pokedex, Basil continued to remain still. He didn’t want to make any sudden movements or give this perceived wild Pokemon any reason to have him for lunch. “What are you talking—? Wait.” Processing what Miles told him, Basil looked back at the Gliscor and started examining him. Scars all over his body, one scar over each of his eyes, tattered black scarf …
“Scar?! No way. When did you turn into … THIS?” With a deep-toned snicker, the Gliscor shrugged his broad shoulders before extending a giant pincer to lightly pat Basil on the head. Confused beyond recognition, Basil looked at Scar before glancing at Miles and Sola. “Well, good thing that we don’t have to walk all the way back to Oldale, right?” he commented before rubbing the side of his head. “Jeez, I wasn’t expecting him to evolve so quickly and I certainly wasn’t expecting him to grow to eight feet tall!”
The Gliscor grinned happily again, reaching forward to pat Basil on the head once more in a strangely comforting gesture. Basil twitched slightly, anxious that Scar was going to accidentally bust his head open or something of the sort; the strength he now carried must’ve been absolutely ridiculous. “Should we keep going?”
"I don't think it'll be that easy friend." He sighs as Sola hops off his shoulder challenging the man. "I really doubt Sola's gonna let it go without some kind of fight dude..." He sighs walking opposite to him his hands in his pockets. "I also think Scar wouldn't mind testing his power." Miles truly isn't in the mood for a battle after all he had more important things to think of like: pickup lines, and restaurants in Petalburg, but the fastest way to move on was this he figured. "I don't mean to force you into a battle, but its either this or we wait until Sola calms down, we know what'll be faster." He shrugs a wary smile on his face that continues to scream 'my bad dude.' knowing his own and his partners hate for random trainer battles.
"Wait, what?" Basil looked at the Larvesta; the fire and bug-type's eyes were glued onto the massive Gliscor. A determined fire burned in those blue hues of hers, a determination that fueled her fiery passion for battle. “You want to have a battle now of all times?” It didn’t seem logical to Basil. He was about to call it off but after hearing Miles’s reasoning behind the challenge, it made perfect sense to him. They didn’t have time to sit here for hours before Sola chilled out. Plus, Scar was giving him that look, a look that said “You best believe we’re about to fucking battle.”
“Alright. Let’s have a battle then,” Basil agreed. He turned towards Scar. “Okay. I’ve never done this battling stuff before …” he started to explain, the Gliscor listening curiously. “So, this is a learning experience for me. I don’t know how you battle but … I’ll just leave it to you for the most part. If I notice something that needs to be pointed out, I’ll tell you. Does that sound fair?” Scar brought a huge claw up to his chin. His expression was ponderous but after a moment of deliberation, he nodded several times firmly. Then, he thumped a pincer against his chest, sharp, triangular teeth exposed in a cocky smile. The Gliscor then stepped forward, eager to fight. Pausing, Basil looked towards Miles, his head dipping in a nod. “Well, it looks like we’re ready over here. You can start the battle if you want. Uh, that’s how it goes, right?”

"That's actually a pretty good idea." He wants no part in this battle so why couldn't he just opt out and let the two pokemon battle themselves if they wanted to prove themselves so badly. "Sola if you wanna do this it's on you alright." His voice is farm as he disciplines the pokemon thinking that maybe after this the pokemon would learn to stop starting fights, or at least choose them wisely. He'd sit back going through his bag making sure he had medical gear on hand just in case worst came to worst. All the while Sola was more than happy to fight her evolved friend. The little bug pokemon takes Basil's cue and begins the fight its five sun-like horns each lighting with a small flame firing them at the flying scorpion, it's ember radiant as always.
All the while the trainer shrugs at Basil standing to the side waving the man over, "I don't know what we're gonna do with them honestly." He laughs a little impressed by his own bug pokemon she had no fear when it came to challenging the monstrous scorpion, something he found respectable to say the least.
Sola wasted no time starting the battle. Fire rose from each of her five horns, each molding into the size of a small ball. Then, they shot towards the Gliscor, aiming to pelt him. Instead of attempting to evade the attack, Scar held his ground. He brought his arms forward and crossed them in front of him defensively. The Ember crashed into him, each individual fireball releasing a wave of heat and a plume of smoke upon impact. Gritting his shark-like teeth, Scar kept his guard up until the attack subsided. Smoke still hovered in the air, temporarily masking his massive form.
There was a moment of silence before he sprang up into the air, sending a short gust of wind out in all directions. Burns spotted his arms; that Ember hurt, even if Scar did at least defend against it. Narrowing his large, yellow eyes, the Gliscor then made a nosedive directly towards the Larvesta. Instead of heading straight at the partial bug-type like he was about to bulrush her, he flipped once through the air before drilling his tail into the ground. A second or two passed before an image of the Gliscor’s fanged tail erupted up from the soil, crafted from toxic energy. Its target? Larvesta, of course.
Basil jogged over towards Miles, eyeing the battle with interest. “Uh. I have a feeling that this is going to be a common occurrence,” the older male commented, eyebrows lifting once he witnessed Scar’s Poison Jab. “Woah. They’re … really fighting, aren’t they?”

Sola watches her attack connect a bit too happy she managed to hit the purple scorpion, as it prepares its own attack she attempts to prepare another only for the poison jab to cleanly connect with the Fire pokemon. She realizes her enemy is too mobile so as she lands from her attackers technique a sticky stringy web flies from her mouth at the Gliscor.
All the while the trainer finds himself chatting with his white haired friend on the side. The other trainer watches as its some kind of surreal experience almost as if he didn't expect them to fight. Mile stifles a laugh. "Yeah man, I think it was pretty obvious this was going to happen, I mean I said it twice, and your pokemon's literally tried to beat up almost everything in sight. I thought I saw it trying to fight a tree back on 101." He turns back to the battle watching the pokemon preform."But I guess it is a little bit to take in."
The poisonous image of the Gliscor’s tail slammed into the Larvesta. Whether or not it poisoned her didn’t matter to Scar; the fact was that she was still conscious and he wanted to change that as quickly as possible. As the String Shot headed towards him, Scar opened his mouth wide. His white, shark-like teeth became enshrouded within a wreath of potent flame. With a vicious chomp, he sent a fiery blast towards the incoming silk, incinerating it completely upon contact. With the bug-type attack properly dealt with, the eight foot tall bat swooped down. His left pincer cackled with dark-type energy. Once he got close enough, he aimed to whack the much smaller Pokemon with a Knock Off, enough force to send them careening through the air.
“Hey, Scar’s not that violent!” Basil claimed. Then, he had to think about it. He did eat a Pidove and that was no telling how many Pokemon the beast has beaten up or eaten or … both. “Alright. Well, he hasn’t tried to beat up a tree; he’s not stupid; that’s for sure. He knows exactly what he wants and how to get it,” the twenty-three year old commented. “He hunts daily which explains why he flies off. At least that means I don’t have to buy Pokemon food for him. Can you imagine what the bill would look like to feed him for a week?”

The tide of the battle turns as the web is consumed by fire, never has she been betrayed by her own element. The claw hits dealing damage, but she's not done nowhere near done. As she flies through the ear her horns light with her own fire aimed at the poison pokemon the burning flares begin to rain down as she lands a little worn out now. How much long could she keep fighting the trainer wonders in the background.
As the trainers talk the red head can't help but roll his eyes at the initial defense. The giant scorpion loved nothing more than a good fight it was apparent to both of them, perhaps that's why he changed the defense so quickly, something that was more agreeable. "Aye boss." he says tiredly more focused on the battle than his companion. It was heating up, meaning it'd be ending soon or so he thinks. The faster it ends the faster they can continue on, to Petalburg and the faster he can continue on to his da- well his meet up of sorts. This impatience isn't much like him at all. p"I imagine far more than both you and I could pay together, thankfully it's not something we have to worry about, seeing as scar is...Self sufficient to say the least."
