Each trainer went about training in different ways. Syndra was no different about this as she sat on her beach towel enjoying the sound of the waves on the beach. Next to her was her Sandshrew who seemed content rolling about and digging in the sands as if it were at home. In a way it was or at least it was adapting more. This was by no means an excuse to relax on the beach.
It was her own way of doing things.
She had done the usual routine she had done with her Turtwig with her Sandshrew today however, running around the perimeter of Petalburg in the morning and the like. In Sandshrew's case it was half rolling half running but it didn't matter to Syndra at the time. Now all she was doing was throwing and piling sand on top of the ground type who didn't look super pleased but was warming up to the girl more than when they had first met. Part of her knew she had to get more into doing some real training but who could resist the beach? Who knows, maybe she would actually train here somehow.

[attr="class","mv"]
[attr="class","mv1"]so far his experience at the beach in petalburg had been an interesting one. the pokemon around here were as spirited as ever and he now knew to avoid the water for fear of getting his legs bitten off by territorial carvahna. evan wasn't sure why he was still out when he knew he should be heading back to town. he wasn't particularly looking for anything other than exploring and he has his fill of looking around the beach. plus the extra weight on his back was killing him and now all he wanted to do was rest. the bag containing the egg he received from the gift shop had been with him ever since and he carried it everywhere. it felt like he was a parent carrying around their baby and couldn't put it down in fear of something happening to it. technically that was the case but he was sure he could have left it back at the inn where he was staying with noah. then again, if it were to hatch he was sure the other male would leave the room and pretend nothing happened.
it was getting later in the day and people were starting to appear on the beach to enjoy the sun and water. while he wanted to warn them of the angry water pokemon lurking in the waters nearby, he was sure the residents of the town knew more about avoiding their territory than he did. his hand reached up and covered his eyes, blocking out the sun that was impairing his vision. he could see snow flying in the sky nearby scouring the area around to see anything new. it was then she let out a small call of joy and flew further down towards a figure sitting in the sand. evan squinted to see what had captured the flying type's attention and spotted a shade of green that only belonged to one person that he had met on his travels.
the swablu flew down and landed near Syndra, hopping over and ruffling her feathers to say hello. "hey it's been awhile." evan ran up from behind his excited pokemon, knowing that he couldn't stop her if the bird decided to sit on the girl's head. "enjoying a day on the beach?"
The sight of a swablu landing nearby would have been surprising if Syndra hadn't met a swablu earlier in her travels. Just looking at it reminded her of the friendly swablu that belonged to Evan. The fact it landed near her gave her the suspicion it was the very same flying type but it wasn't assured until she saw the red head running up from her peripheral vision. It wasn't like it landed on her head again after all. Without a word the girl reached her hand out to pet the fluffy pokemon's wings as she looked over to Evan. "Hello again!" she said cheerfully to greet Evan with a smile plastered on her face. "It has been awhile hasn't it?" She'd offer her hand to the blue bird in case it wanted to hop on or anything but most of her attention focused in on the pokemon's trainer.
The question was just a bit of small talk but Syndra appreciated the company it created. It didn't bother her that he guessed she was having fun on the beach because in most ways it was, especially to outsiders that didn't know her well. "Guess it looks pretty obvious," she commented with a small laugh. Her sandshrew for the most part ignored the newcomers and continued to fool around in the sand near the amber redish egg that Syndra had received from the exploration tour. The egg was half buried as if to keep it secure and warm in a cradle with the ground type lurking to protect the egg from anything that might have threatened it. It was a cute act and so Syndra allowed her to do what it wished to do. "I'm actually trying to train up my pokemon but looks like I got sidetracked."
[attr="class","nv3"] but i look at you. i look at you, and god, constellations are bursting, fires are dying, silence is deafening, the whole damn world is terrifying - - - – – and im falling, god, i’m falling.
[attr="class","nv3"] Syndra Mawdrey i posted for you. no items. final destination. fox only.
[attr="class","mv"]
[attr="class","mv1"]snow ruffled her cloud-like feathers and leaned into syndra's touch. she always liked to meet new people and when she had met the human female, she instantly took a liking to her. along with that, she didn't mind that she sat on her head whenever she wanted. taking the girl's offer, the swablu hopped onto her hand and flew the small distance to the top of her head.
evan watched with exasperation as his pokemon once again went to sit on Syndra's head. syndra didn't seem to mind all that much last time so he didn't stop his pokemon. the other even seemed to like the company of the small pokemon and liked giving her attention. the two of them didn't look to mind each other so evan left it alone. "training huh?" he smiled down at the girl and looked out towards the ocean nearby. "we actually just battled wild ones a few minutes ago. this girl over here," he gestured towards the swablu currently making herself home on Syndra's head, "always ends up in a fight with other pokemon. luckily it was just a few little pokemon rather than something we can't handle." they could really use some training themselves. they had battled wild ones before but never in an actual pokemon battle with another trainer.
evan glanced down to look at the sandshrew that was keeping busy with burying an egg in the sand. "did you go on a cave exploration too?" he reached back into his bag and pulled out the brown colored egg from inside. placing it on the sand nearby, he looked down at the eggs before turning back to Syndra. "i hope your tour turned out a lot better than mine." yeah he didn't want to talk about his.
As the swablu climbed to her head, Syndra laughed playfully as she messed around to play with the pokemon. It was hard to believe that this same swablu had emerged from fighting just moments ago like Evan said. With the festival, wild pokemon appearances were not frequent enough for Syndra to remember them. Plus it was so peaceful now. "Well aren't you a tough girl?" she would compliment as she pet the small dragon that roosted atop her head. She never expected such a cute pokemon to always end up in fights but she didn't know the pokemon well enough to make that judgement. "Maybe we should have a practice match one day when you're up for it."
At the mention of the cave exploration the female looked over to Evan who had pulled out his own egg and placed it in the sand as well. The egg looked different from her own so probably wasn't the same species but they were interesting to look at all the same. "I did. My group was pretty eccentric though," she admitted as she reminisced on the questionable trip through the cave. The sense of doom looming over the last statement was curious enough for the green haired girl to question what the redhead meant by that. "Did your tour not turn out so well?"

[attr="class","nv3"] Syndra Mawdrey ohhhh we gonna fite noooow.
[attr="class","mv"]
[attr="class","mv1"]evan watched his pokemon thrive in the attention syndra was giving her. he was almost for certain that the swablu was getting spoiled and one day he wouldn't be able to stop her from demanding attention from others. it was already happening with the way she had no problems landing on people's heads and refusing to move. he turned his attention back down to syndra and thought about her suggestion. his two other pokemon were not the strongest yet and experience in battle was the only way to build up their strength. he had no problem with getting some training done with the green haired female.
"eccentric huh? well hopefully you had fun." he laughed a little at the thought of syndra going through her own little misshapen events in the cave. it was probably nothing compared to theirs considering something had actually died in the cave. at the question of his tour, evan paused and laughed nervously, waving the question off like it was no big deal. it was a very big deal and he was surprised none of them had gotten arrested for what happened. he was almost certain deanna refused to talk about anything that happened in there again which was why they didn't have a squad of rangers on their heels. "uh you could say that..."
not wanting syndra to ask for further details, whether she wanted to or not, evan pointed at their pokemon and looked out along the beach. "hey how about that battle? i only have two pokemon but they like to get into fights. maybe a practice match will make them happy. are you up for it?" it was up to syndra whether they were to battle right now or later. either way he was ready to go.
Similarly, Syndra picked up on the fact that Evan did not wish to talk about his exploration which was like how Miles responded to her. It made her question what actually happened in there. Before she could though the male had changed the subject by shifting her attention with his pointing. Her eyes followed where he pointed to land on where Sandshrew stood taking care of the eggs. With a blink she listened to Evan's words and smiled, "a battle already huh?" she questioned. She knew it was likely to get her off the topic of the exploration and even though she knew this the method had worked. Her pokemon still needed a bit more training anyway so it was a good opportunity.
The girl got up to her feet slowly as to not startle the pokemon on her head or move too much to unnerve it. Dusting away the sand off her clothes as she stood, she spoke "sure, a battle sounds good as long as we can hang out afterwards." Truth be told she just wanted to spoil the swablu some more but she didn't mind hanging out with Evan. Their last encounter was so short and he seemed like a cool person to spend time with so it worked either way. "I'll use sandshrew first so you can have the first move," she said as she whistled over the ground type. The yellow pokemon seemed reluctant to leave the pokemon eggs alone but Syndra walked over to where sandshrew had stood watch and stayed with the pokemon eggs to let her pokemon go off to fight. She gave another playful poke at the Swablu as she knew that the pokemon would soon move back to its trainer's side so she wanted to get in as much as she could before she did.
[attr="class","nv3"] but i look at you. i look at you, and god, constellations are bursting, fires are dying, silence is deafening, the whole damn world is terrifying - - - – – and im falling, god, i’m falling.
[attr="class","nv3"] Syndra Mawdrey fite meh. man gonna have fun explaining why the fuck he called hoppip out later. good times.
[attr="class","mv"]
[attr="class","mv1"]he didn't mean to switch the topic off the cave explorations so fast but he didn't want to bring up what happened. the death of the lairon and basil's slightly psychotic pokemon was still fresh on his mind. plus the tension that had grown between everyone in the group afterwards because of the fight that broke out between noah and miles. yeah the tour was something he wanted to put into the back of his mind and pretend that it had been a normal, everyday tour.
evan walked back a few paces and to give their pokemon some room to battle. "that's alright with me. i have nothing planned later in the day." he didn't mind spending a few hours with syndra. she was good company and snow really liked her which was a plus. then again, his swablu liked almost everyone... "i'll use snow first." he figured he would start with the swablu since she was already out of her pokeball. plus he wasn't confident in sending his other pokemon out yet considering it had no attack moves to begin with. he was not looking forward to explaining that.
hearing her name and with a poke to her wings from the human girl, the swablu flew off syndra's head and went towards her trainer. while she wanted to sit and get attention from the green haired girl more, the prospect of getting more attention after the battle spurred her on. landing in front of evan, she flapped her wings and faced the sandshrew. "alright let's start off with sing followed by peck." the swablu opened its beak and let out a soothing song in the direction of the ground type. keeping up the song, she flew forward and stopped when she was close enough, diving forward to deliver a peck to her opponent.
Syndra was happy that her conditions were agreed to as a happy grin grew on her face. As she expected the pokemon on her head was called first, the small amount of weight she felt being lifted away. Once the blue bird came into view the battle was getting underway. The call for singing wasn't surprising and the sound that the Swablu began to make was already pleasing to the ear. Still she couldn't allow her Sandshrew to fall victim to it before doing anything, much less herself. So she used her right hand to pinch her forearm hard to stop herself from dozing off while yelling to have her commands overpower the sound of Swablu. "Avoid listening to the song!" Of course Syndra didn't need to say that for Sandshrew to know it. Immediately the ground type covered her ears as she ran around to get behind the dragon type. The sandshrew curled into a ball to blot out the sound which strengthened her defense as defense curl was used. As the swablu went in for the pecking it gave Syndra an idea. She spoke loudly in an attempt to overpower the song with her voice so that Sandshrew wouldn't fall asleep but still hear her. "Stay in that ball and use Rollout towards the source of the singing!"
The ground type took this to heart. After all this is how it slept in the first place so even if she fell asleep, she wouldn't unravel and expose herself. So it did what one would call the yolo method and charged forward towards the sound of the singing, using rollout head on throwing caution to the wind.

SWABLU WAS HIT BY ROLLOUT! SWABLU USED GROWL! SWABLU USED SING!
[attr="class","nv3"] Syndra Mawdrey short and shitty just the way i like it. also swablu gonna die. my trump card is next 8I
[attr="class","mv"]
[attr="class","mv1"]it had been a long time since he had been in a battle. while he had experience for practice battles and even life threatening ones, he felt a little rusty at the moment. it was a good thing the female suggested training or he would have went on to one of the gyms and failed spectacularly. evan watched as the swablu dived at the sandshrew. he watched as the ground type curled immediantly into a ball and tried to avoid listening to the sing attack. the swablu flew head on and only stopped to try and peck at the curled up pokemon. it was too late to avoid the rollout attack and she was hit immediantly upon contact with the pokemon. she flew a few feet away and landed to avoid another direct hit from the strong attack. "use growl and try to avoid the rollout attack." it wasn't much but any chance of lowering the rock type move would be ideal. they would have a small advantage if the ground type managed to fall asleep and it would easy to get a couple of hits in. while he wasn't confident that they would win, it was still the battle experience and training that they needed.
the swablu let loose a loud call in the direction of the sandshrew, nothing like the short, beautiful notes she was used to singing. "try sing again!" after attempting growl, swablu flew overhead above the sandshrew and began her song once again to attempt to make the ground type fall into a short slumber.
For a moment, if only for a moment, the singing had stopped only to be replaced by the rougher tones of the bird. It caught both Syndra and Sandshrew off guard. The ground type had felt less inclined to go all in and attack brazenly so her attacks would be weaker. Still the girl was somewhat grateful the singing stopped and she could regain her bearings. Releasing the grip she had on herself from pinching herself awake, leaving a mild red spot on her skin, she thought over what to do now. The answer seemed rather obvious but she didn't want to get ahead of herself. "Sandshrew keep using rollout towards the noise," she instructed to which the command was obeyed.
But as the sandshrew was rolling forward to attack again the singing started back up. Almost on instinct Syndra placed her hand back onto the same spot to pinch herself awake again with the ground type now more prone to the song. It took almost no time at all for the ball of yellow to fall asleep and stopping in the sands all curled up.

[attr="class","nv3"] Syndra Mawdrey HAHAHAHA MY TRUMP CARD!
[attr="class","mv"]
[attr="class","mv1"]maybe using sing had not been such a good idea. while the attack had been aimed for the sandshrew, evan could still feel grogginess creeping up on him. he hated that the attack affected everyone within earshot and he could see syndra pinching herself to stay awake as well. evan watched as the sandshrew continued to use rollout towards the swablu and winced when it managed to get hit by the attack before it could dodge out of the way. the flying type hit the sand and weakly tried to get back up to continue fighting. the sandshrew had finally fallen asleep from the attack but swablu was definitely too weak to continue the battle. "i think that's enough for now. nice job." it had been a short fight but swablu had gotten some experience finally fighting in a real battle. recalling her back into her pokeball, evan paused as he pulled out the second one.
he was not kidding when he said all of his pokemon loved to fight. it's just that his hoppip wasn't the best pokemon right now for a fight. looking down at the pokeball, he contemplated calling off the battle and explaining why he didn't want to suffer embarrassment from watching his hoppip float around and hit her pokemon with the leaves on his head. with a sigh, evan released the small grass type and watched it start to float away from a random breeze. "um..." the hoppip managed not to get too far away from their little area of battle and floated back in front of evan. "i...ready when you are..." how did he explain that his pokemon knew no attack moves?
Once again the singing stopped but this time Syndra didn't stop pinching herself until the Swablu was recalled. Her sandshrew on the other hand was still asleep in her curled up state so she had no choice but to recall her using the pokeball. "It was a good battle," the female trainer complimented. She was surprised how formidable the flying type was against her sandshrew. Prepared for the next fight, she waited patiently for Evan to call out his new pokemon. The grass type appeared and almost instantly got carried off by a stray breeze. The green haired girl felt a bit of embarrassment for Evan as shown with an awkward smile. Still Evan did say the pokemon liked to fight so Syndra didn't think much on the display as it wandered back in front of the redhead.
Then she noticed how much the male seemed hesitant. Thinking he was worried about his pokemon, Syndra waved as if to wave off his worries. "Relax, I'm sure everything will be fine." Oh how little did she know. Pulling out another pokeball, she lobbed it to reveal her next pokemon. The round blue Spheal appeared in a flash of light with a cute cry of his name. "You can go first if you want." She was trying to make Evan feel more at ease with the battle by giving him priority. Besides, she did win the first battle so it was only fair.

[attr="class","nv3"] Syndra Mawdrey hoppip to strong. 10/10 best pokemon.
[attr="class","mv"]
[attr="class","mv1"]evan could already feel the embarrassment creeping up on him as the grass type floated in front of him. he watched as the sandshrew was recalled and in its place was a spheal. there was no way of winning this and he had no problems with losing. it was the way that they were going to lose was the bad part. syndra's words did nothing to really relax him because she didn't know the problem he was facing. he almost wished she had decided to attack first instead so maybe there was a chance the hoppip would be unfit for battle after one attack. it was slightly less embarrassing than the alternative.
before he could suggest that she go first this time, the grass type was already on the move. the hoppip knew the moment that the spheal appeared that it was his opponent. it was looking for a good fight and he saw one right in front of him. the hoppip landed in front of the other pokemon and started to bop it on the nose with its leaves. since it wasn't a real attack, it did nothing and was more like a tickle on the face than anything. before the spheal could realize what was going on, the hoppip then flopped on the ground started to jump around, trying to use splash. it was a sad really.
heat started to spread up evan's neck and into his face at the pathetic sight. "um...yeah...it doesn't know..." evan tried to explain but he was sure the damage was already done. seeing the hoppip flop around on the ground was enough.
Evan still appeared hesitant but Syndra didn't really get why until she watched the hoppip float towards her Spheal. She was prepared for the worst as the typing was half favorable and half not. What she wasn't expecting however was for the grass type to tickle her pokemon. The water type gave an adorable little squeal at the sensation and the green haired girl suddenly understood. She got first-hand embarrassment as she looked over and saw that Evan's face was turning the same shade as his hair. There was no way that she could force him to even attempt to fight. She didn't even have any words to say.
As the hoppip did a little dance in the sand to which Syndra didn't even perceive as an actual attack Spheal was having a glorious time enjoying what he thought was a show. He clapped in entertainment watching the Hoppip, giving the pokemon an encore so he could keep having his fun. However the girl shook her head and took the same pokeball to recall the water type. "I'm sorry. I didn't know," she said apologetically. It wouldn't have been a problem to win that fight and she was sure Evan knew that it wasn't going to end well so she had no qualms not finishing this fight. If that had been her in the same situation, she wouldn't want that to happen. "Let's just forget it happened and hang out for awhile?"
