hello calamity! we're nearing the two months mark in a few weeks. how time flies! right now we have two things going on that need your participation. the first is an activity check! it is impotant that you check in so you don't lose your face claim. the second is the otm nomiations! we're doing it a bit different than last time. so please submit your nominations in. a vote thread will be up in the next few days. there will also be a formal event coming very soon, so keep your eye out for that. keep being cool!
we're currently about to host calamity's first contest in slatepor. trainers are flocking to the city to see, the city's been trying to get good pr since the gala, and it seems to be working! they're asking for both coordinators and volunteer judges to sign up.

For some reason, Sylvester had always made it a point to retrace his steps through Hoenn region. During his time out in the wild, the only area Sylvester managed to capture pokemon in was right outside of Littleroot Town in Route 101. Now venturing back towards Oldale Town, he walked along Route 102 scouring the high grass for pokemon. At his side was his baby Torchic, keeping up with his usually brisk pace. "I wonder how much longer it will be until I find a pokemon you can battle with. There' usually so many around here..."
It was actually quite depressing, as Sylvester was genuinely starting to worry if his luck as a pokemon trainer had ran out—or if he had had any to start with. At most, he was willing to suffice with the fact that what he had was 'beginner's luck'.
However, luck would have it that another silhouette could be seen making their way up the trail from Route 101 and Littleroot Town. As they grew closer, and Sylvester along with his Torchic made their way towards them, he could begin to make our their brownish hair and masculine figure. 'Perhaps he would like a battle? I could hope so.'

Today was another opportunity to expand on Swinub's technique. We're going to put on a show today, Broski! He had the utmost confidence in the training they had gone through until now. Catching an additional companion was quintessential, but what he found along the way to Oldale was a trainer.
"Hey, tall dark and gloomy! Fight my pokeman, bro. My Broski needs a challenge." Dmitri ran up to the trainer and withdrew his pokeball before nudging an elbow towards a clearing off of the path ahead. Don't want to be in the way of any passers-by. Usa's formalities were starting to rub off on him, or Dmitri was finally growing a conscience.
Could be both.
"My Broski is a Swinub from my motherland. He shall make his ancestors proud, fighting foreign pokemon." Please don't have a Fire type? It had been awhile since he'd last seen a Fire-type, and he was starting to think the day would never come. But they were notoriously frequent among most of the major reasons as starters. Please don't have a Fire type. It was paramount to success. Please don't have a Fire type... move? Perhaps that was the kind of luck we has looking at.
Wait, Broski's Ground type... I'm being stupid. That was the type of situation Broski was in, forced to oblige a moron's commands. At least I pep talk him up to it. Broski seemed eager to present itself for any challenge Dmitri brought to its attention this far; ... It wouldn't be like him to quit so early on. It was settled, Broski would fight!

'Wow.' It was rather appalling the way he referred to Sylvester, and while it only mildly provoked him, it was enough to warrant a pokemon battle between the two. Nodding his head and moving out of the way of the trail so that they could battle without any interference, Sylvester retrieved a pokeball and sneered at the man. "What's your name?"
It wasn't as if he really wanted to know, but in order for the battle to stick in this guy's memory, Sylvester would make sure this guy remembered his name. "I'm Sylvester Blackburne—the trainer whose going to defeat whatever a Broski is." He almost laughed, reaching in for one of his pokeballs before tossing it out. Truth be told he wasn't picking a particular one, but what exited the pokeball's confines seemed to be his Shroomish. "Alright Daisy, I hope you're ready for a fight." To which she responded "Shroom, Shroom!"
Effect Spore - Lv.10 - Healthy Shroomish is on standby!

"Shroomish? Maybe she has truffle for Broski to nibble during battle? He gets awfully hungry." Broski slammed onto the field after the pokeball bounced upon the meadow. I should have the advantage, it's grass-type. Victory would seem within grasp for the time being.
"Freeze-Dry barrage, just do it!" Several frigid gusts chilled the area pervading the warmth and comfort of even Dmitri. I should bring a sweater more often.
"Daisy seems like a pushover, from where I'm standing." Swinub stood still huffing for breath, starved of it by the relentless Freeze-Dry command. I need to remember he can't use it that often. His battle with Usa Keji had taught him as much.

"Daisy, make sure to dodge." Acknowledging that his adversary's Swinub was capable of ice type moves, it would be critical of him to make the right decisions in the battle. Knowing it was impossible to go a whole battle without getting hit, Sylvester knew it was only a matter a time. Likewise, it wasn't a surprise as he saw the Shroomish taking a direct hit. 'Ah great.'"Shroomish!" The pokemon whined out in anguish.
"Shake it off, Daisy. Start things up with absorb." Proving her grit, the Shroomish got back on it's feet and charged swiftly targeted the foe Swinub. The green hue began to emanate from her, meanwhile Sylvester began making their next move. "Follow it up with leech seed." Hoping at least one of them would make contact, Sylvester waited on his opposition before going any further.
Effect Spore - Lv.10 - Moderately Injured shroomish dodged (1st) Freeze-Dry! (1/2) Shroomish was hit by (2nd) Freeze-Dry! Shroomish used Absorb! Shroomish used Leech Seed!

"Avoid that Absorb!" Broski barrel-rolled sideways and tumbled from harm's way in short moments before a miasmatic poultice of herbal reagents might've sapped away his vitality. But the seeds latched onto him greedily, almost snaring his legs and preventing movement. But he could break through the thin vines intertwining the seeds, but shaking them was another matter entirely.
All sorts of draining effects, and he's actually got half the typing advantage right. Swinub would survive the effects of the Grass-type moves of Daisy well enough, but it was ideal to avoid whichever brought its health back the quickest. Better lay on the heavy damage! Index finger raised, Dmitri voiced to Broski a sudden, sharp command.
"Freeze-Dry until it drops!" It was a matter of dishing out more damage than the Shroomish could diminish using its tide-changing lifesteal abilities. Broski has the advantage in this case, though. He was pumped to watch Swinub spray coolant across the vicinity, dousing the Shroomish and freezing its chlorophyllic hide. I bet that smarts.
Broski evaded Absorb! Broski was hit by Leech Seed! Broski used Freeze-Dry! x2 Broski had its life sapped by Leech Seed!

The battle was actually going somewhat well, though in the moments to come that wasn't going to be the case. Even though his Shroomish began to heal, the ice type attacks used by the trainer's pokemon were incredibly effective. "Daisy, try to dodge-" The first attack already hit before Sylvester could finish, the following attack making it's mark as well as it stunned the pokemon due to it's sheer coldness.
"Shroomish!" His pokemon whined, falling on it's side, and for all intents and purposes it appeared to give up. It was barely able to breathe, as it seemed, Sylvester retrieving his pokemon so that it may rest in it's ball.
"Not bad. You did well...whatever your name is." At least Sylvester was beginning to learn how to handle losing a battle without becoming envious or spiteful. "Maybe we'll battle again another time?" It was a pressing matter for Sylvester to begin acquiring contacts—specifically skilled trainers, above all. "I'll be leaving now, though. Don't waste too much time around here. Hoenn has a lot more to offer." And with that, Sylvester took off towards the city of Petalburg.

"Yeah, good job Broski." He clapped and reached out to his swinub, patting it gently for a job well done. His growth was becoming progressive, and Dmitri held high hopes for where their journeys would take them next. Petalburg has a Gym, maybe Broski's almost ready. He still had no idea what type of pokemon lie in wait.
"It's Dmitri, bro. And yeah, I guess I'll cya around!" Dmitri was also in quite the hurry, escaping towards Petalburg was his first and foremost concern. Beckoning Broski to jump onto his shoulder, the two continued down the path towards the city with Sylvester slowly fading away to carry out his own business.
"You really did great today Broski, I'm happy for you. Maybe tonight we celebrate your first major victory." Swinu snorted in delight, drooling down across Dmitri's jacket and leaving the smell to fester around his nose. Eugh, what did you eat, Broski? He almost gagged at the smell, it wasn't of this world.
Broski leveled up to Lvl 9! Dmitri found Petalburg City!
