The festival was noisy and crowded, and it was waning on Sam’s usually high tolerance of people. He wasn’t hateful, don’t get him wrong, but he still wasn’t a huge people person and socializing for that huge amount of time made him feel exhausted and crabby. So the first thing to get that feeling off his mind was getting himself involved in another eventful activity. Said activity happened to involve searching for Pokemon along the route to fight, which was very much the equivalent of misplaced aggression whether he’d admit it or not.
Swiping a hand down his face in exasperation, Sam halted his search and placed his bag down slightly outside the zone of tall grass in the route. He felt silly walking around and picking at objects; it made him look paranoid. However, he never actually actively tried getting a wild pokemon to appear before. The only wild pokemon he actively caught was Geodude and Sewaddle; both were pretty much misfits. It kind of fit him, to be honest, adopting strays had always been his thing since childhood.
“But… purposefully trying to aggravate a wild pokemon I do not do.” He groaned out and kicked at the ground covered by the tall grass. He took it upon himself to sit over the ledge where the grassy area overlooked the beach and think. “I… can’t even remember why I decided to hunt down pokemon again. You’d think they’d be more aggressive to trainers stumbling into their territory but nope, obviously not.” He laughed at his own dry sarcasm, fumbling around his backpack and some of the empty balls he had left. There… honestly weren’t that many.
“I need to go shopping. I only have 4 pokeballs on me.”

Trainers were all over this place these past few days but her mother had appeared to have completely vanished as soon as they'd arrived! Coincidence, she was sure. It wasn't rare for her mother to go off on long flights by herself so... it was just a coincidence that this one was extra long.
She hadn't even came back to feed her!
All these trainers made a lot of noise with all their fighting but, one thing she had noticed, is that a lot of them carried food. That one sat on the ledge over there probably carried some too! Undaunted, the young vullaby waddled hurriedly over to the sitting man and squawked loudly, flapping her small wings impatiently.
"Vull! Vullaby!" She boldly pecked at the bag he was rummaging through. "Vull!"
This was an unexpected turn of events. When he heard the squawking, he was quick to assume there was a herd of birds flying by, but he was a bit sidetracked with his own thoughts of being stupid enough to not stock up before heading out searching. So he was shocked and slightly startled when he felt a pull on his bag, and saw a vullaby pecking around at it as if imitating him, or- It started giving small cries. Yeah it wanted something.
"Shh shh, its okay little fella." The teen shifted to a more comfortable position for himself and opened his backpack up, searching among the equipment he sattled up for his long journey across the region for some of the "rations" he stored. His eyes lit up when he got what he wanted and opened the bag from within his pack, pulling out an apple and a small cutting tool. He made sure to keep the sharp edge closer to himself and away from the baby, because it might startle it and... that's the last thing he wanted. He didn't want to deal with getting pecked in the face right now, being this close to a wild pokemon without his own pokemon out was dangerous as it was.
Once the apple was cut into slices, he put the knife away and laid the apple slices out flat in his hand, offering for the Vullaby to take it. They were made small enough so that she could eat it without too much trouble. "Here you go." He spoke, hoping to get himself on the Vullaby's good side.
Now that he thought about it more though, it was rather odd that she was all by herself. Weren't Mandibuzz suppose to be territorial? What's a Vullaby doing so far away from her nest without her mother? "...If you don't mind me asking." He paused. "Where's your momma? Are you lost?"
O-Oh! This human was actually giving into her request!
The impatient vullaby flapped her wings and ruffled up her feathers, squawking at the boy who had produced an apple. It wasn't meat but for a hungry bird like her, it'd be fine. Her head bobbed forwards and backwards, tilting sideways in curiosity, as it was peeled before her. She gave the human's sleeve a peck when she thought it was taking too long.
"Vull!" She squawked, jumping a little and flapping her wings once he was finally done. Needing no prompting whatsoever, she began to greedily gobble up the slices in his hand, probably pinching the soft skin of his palm in her carelessness with her beak.
Her momma? Just... out for a long flight.
The young vullaby ruffled her feathers again and gave a shrill shriek once the apple slices were all gone in record time. "Vullaby!" This human wasn't so bad... for the time being... if he had food. Curious if there was more, she stuck her head in his bag again and began flapping her wings madly, trying to check it out.
He was taken aback by the Vullaby’s sudden, but reckless, actions. Diving head first into his knapsack was dangerous! Not only for his equipment, but for the bird herself! Sam scurried to try and fish the baby bird out of his bag, careful not to get in the way of the baby’s beak. When he felt as though it would be an issue, he gave spoke to it in a soft voice to try and coax it to calm down.
“Woah okay, you don’t want to be doing that. Food or not that’s dangerous, you have no idea what else I have in there.” Granted, some people would find it strange that he was scolding a baby bird because it didn’t necessarily understand him. So he pouted and moved the bag away from the bird a bit, taking out some leftovers he had bought at the festival. Money wasn’t an issue, he could just go back and get some more fish. He just hoped the bird didn’t mind sushi… Though it was a wild animal, cooked food was more awkward.
“There, now stop getting yourself into trouble hun. Doubt your mom would want you hurt now.” He said, hoping that the child wasn’t like a human child in which it’d probably retaliate at him over what he said. With a mutter about why it was straying so far anyways, he picked a few pokeballs out of the bag and stared. Was it bad…? The mom being gone this long was suspicious. If the baby stayed here she’d would probably- Nah it was best not to think of the repercussions and just go with the idea.
“Hey Vullaby, why not come with me for a bit? We can see if we can find your mom together, you don’t have to worry about getting attacked by passing trainers or about food with how long she’s been gone.” His tone was soft, but he was nothing but concerned. It might just be him being stupid, but he’d rather not attack it to bring it with him. He’d feel…. Well, like a major jerk. Why wouldn’t he? That’d be like breaking the sprained wing of a baby bird falling from their nest.
Vullaby tilted her head one way and then the other way as her human feeder spoke. He seemed... very kind. Very, very kind compared to other humans she'd seen from afar.
Perhaps... it wouldn't be a bad idea to go with him... while they kept an eye out for her momma. And the human said she wouldn't have to worry about food! As long as he had something other than apples to offer her... maybe this would work out alright.
"Vull!" She cooed after a moment's debate, flapping her scrawny wings merrily. "Vull!" The chick began to scramble into Sam's bag; it looked plenty cozy in there! Like a portable nest!
