As the afternoon was drawing to a close and the evening mist threatened to roll over the festivities held near Petalburg City, Syndra had decided to begin preparations for after the festival. Indeed the green haired girl had managed to yank herself away from the party and crept into the tamer area that was route 102. She had completed her training regime for herself and her pokemon for the day so she took the rest of the day for herself. Her pokemon were resting in their pokeballs as she herself went off to gather berries in the wild. With her childhood growing up, she was used to these types of activities and chores. She had even done this on route 101 but with her new partners and sharing with others along the way she didn't have enough for getting to the next city.
So in this silence she walked along as the sun narrowly continued to cause the sky to glow a darker hue of orange. Syndra exhaled slightly as her eyes wandered along the grassy path off the beaten path. There were a few trees that had a multitude of colored berries dotting the greenery overhead and at the sight of those the female smiled to herself. She was careful not the rush up or disturb any pokemon that might have been resting nearby. Reaching up to the low hanging branches and snapping off fruit, she rolled it about in her hands to assure the ripeness of the fruit. On confirmation she would slip the berry into her bag and loop the same routine.
[attr="class","pv00"]He wasn’t really sure why he had taken off away from the festivals in Petalburg and returned to route 102. The lights and sounds, the amount of people filling the beaches and shops; they weren’t his thing. It was all too loud, too cramped -- and after everything that had happened in the cave exploration he wanted to clear his head. The death of that Pokemon didn’t leave him annoyed or sad (or anything in between) but rather that little outburst with their minor travel companion. He was stubborn -- too much so -- and being around the boy for longer was pulling at his strings, left him just on edge of snapping at someone; and all he needed was to snap at Evan and ruin their start over again. But was that really his reason for taking off.
How pathetic, he thinks.
His fingers tap against the shell of an egg, one that -- for the majority of the day -- had been hidden within a backpack around his shoulder; but as the sky began to turn an orange hue Noah abandoned the thought. Instead of keeping the thing within the confines of a bag he had taken it out, holding it within his arms to stare at its bright coloration. By looks alone whatever was inside didn’t seem like something he wanted; though, throughout his twenty one years of being alive he had never really had a preference. All he wanted was obedience; something that didn’t give him a migraine each time he called it out.
Surprisingly his Poochyena isn’t out of her pokeball, from what he assumes was due to the long day they had, and as he walks he expects nothing to happen. He expects to see no one, run into nothing and return to town with ease; but then he notices something. A color that does nothing but camouflage against the fauna of the route, contrasted mildly by the glow of light from the sun; and he recognizes the face. There’s no name coming to mind when he steps forward, nor does it come when he speaks. “Oh, it’s you.”

The peace lingered for awhile longer, the only sounds serenading the forest being the rustling of leaves from Syndra's search. The female was rather pleased with her collection and enjoying nature until the foreign voice emanated past what she knew. The voice was deeper and more droll then what the girl was used to. Though a voice like that wasn't hard to discern who it belonged to either. "Oh the angry one," she would quip back to the taller menacing man. Ordinarily she wouldn't have called him that but after both Evan and Miles attested that this was a real character trait that the male seemed to have, she decided to tease him on it. Part of her was surprised that Noah even came up to talk to her after their last encounter. After all, Noah didn't seem to want anything to do with her when they parted ways in Oldale. This was no complaint though and she instead cast her gaze over to the item in Noah's arms.
"I shouldn't be surprised that you have a pokemon egg too. After the exploration everyone seems to have one," Syndra commented as she pulls out her own pokemon egg from her bag, though hers was in the rare moments of being in the confines of an incubator. Like all the other eggs she came across the green haired girl compared the two eggs and determined that they were not of the same species either. That said, it was kinda funny seeing Noah holding a pink egg. Trying not to comment on it but allowing the smile on her face to hint at her thoughts, she spoke. "So what has you all the way out here? Did you and your friend Evan get in a fight?" A joke. She knew the two men were traveling together so she wanted to jab at the larger male as she waited for an answer. Little did she know how accurate her statement might have been.
[attr="class","pv00"]Normally he wouldn’t have said anything to the girl, merely notice she was there -- that, maybe, he recognized her from somewhere -- before just going on his way without a single word exchanged. Usually he would have done that; but after everything, he guessed things had fucked up his normal ritual and made him a little more sociable. Her response back to him takes him back, eyes narrowing towards the green haired girl; and he frowns. “Angry… one,” he repeats, cocking an eyebrow as he says the words aloud once more. “What the fuck does that mean.” It had been the last thing he thought she would say to him, and after it was said he stared, eyeing the girl with narrowed eyes as he stood in silence. He shouldn’t have said anything when he noticed her there; he’d fucked up and now all he wanted to do was reverse his actions and ignore her completely.
His fingers tapped against the hard shell of the egg within his arms, drumming them against the smooth surface when she pointed it out to him. It was the first time since she had called him the “angry one” that his eyes left her, watching the way the light hit the unhatched item before returning glancing back up to see a smile on his face. His eyes narrowed again, eyeing the girls expression with a growing look of annoyance. It’s only at the mention of Evan that his eyes loose their anger, his demeanor shifting and his shoulders slowly lowering. “We didn’t have a fight, and even if we did I wouldn’t gossip with you about it.” he huffed, shifting his feet where they stood. They hadn’t been on great terms after the cave exploration but he wouldn’t call it a fight. “I just wanted to step away from everyone for a bit.” It wasn’t a lie; after the festival and all that was said in the cave that day things hadn’t been the same. “Nothing wrong with wanting to be alone, right?”
He notices the egg she had pulled from her bag, staring at the coloration before looking to the side. “What are you doing out here?” he asks. “Don’t tell me you’ve made it your thing to stand around in routes waiting for people to pass by so you can tag along with them.” he comments, referring to when he first met her (and the thought that he still has yet to recall her name comes up, pushed back after realizing it might never come).

Perhaps she shouldn't have teased or taken jabs at Noah. The girl starting to realize that upon being on the receiving end of the nasty look given to her by the tall male. She would still answer the question though even if it got him angrier and if he did that would only serve to prove her point. "That you are angry? Compared to Evan anyway," she stated matter of factly with a knowing smile. With Noah being the brutish type the girl felt like she shouldn't make jabs at him for much longer unless he wanted to lose interaction with him altogether and she wouldn't want that. Noah was connected to Evan and the red haired male was too nice to sacrifice for the angry one's sake. She omitted the fact that Evan and Miles provided her with that ammo and moved onto the next topic, that being about the nice one.
Instantly the female noticed the shift of tone and attitude from the normally angry male at the mention of Evan. She was unsure of why that would happen as he undoubtedly knew that the male in question wasn't with her at the moment. A stray thought came to mind and the woman made sure to keep a mental note of it for later. For now since she pushed Noah to the point that any more would have provoked a growl or something like walking away, she let it be. A large part of her wanted to inquire further but that was for another day. For now she focused on Noah's words and was assured that the two didn't get into a fight. Still it wasn't hard to notice how tense things were and Syndra could only assume it had something to do with their exploration. Every time she asked about it between Miles and Evan, it only spurred the same dejected look and a subject change. It was strange and the female wanted it to be remedied soon.
That was for another day. While she didn't respond with anything other than an understanding nod to Noah's comment about nothing wrong with wanting to be alone she questioned that. The male showed consideration and care for Evan but again did not prod the situation. All that thought was thrown out the window on what the angry one had said. A coy smile played at her lips if only to prevent her from retaliating vocally. She'll get him back one day. "Not at all. I was picking berries in preparation for traveling through the next route or so. They're healthy and all." Plus it was free but the green haired girl didn't want to make that note. "Did you enjoy the festival then?"
Nah my posts suck too. See? Respond with --100 words pls to my trash.
[attr="class","pv00"]The comment Syndra had made was an obvious one, and while he had questioned the meaning behind it when it was first said it didn’t take him long to realize exactly what she meant by calling him “the angry one”. Compared to many he was just that, and if he had been asked if he agreed on the title it would have been a lie if he had answered no. He was “the angry one” when compared to a lot of people, Evan included, yet still, as correct as the statement was didn’t mean he liked it. It irked him, pushed a little button in his head that everyone seemed all too eager to slam their hand against. When she explains the comment he scoffs, clicking his tongue against the top of his mouth before averting his gaze. He was angry (or more so annoyed than anything else) and compared to Evan, well – he couldn’t say that wasn’t the truth. Though, he’d argue Evan was worse than him when he got upset.
He notices the smile when he speaks, raises an eyebrow to her reason for being out alone on the route – and in prompts of a laugh, low and nothing but mocking in the way it leaves slightly grinning lips. There’s a need to call bullshit on her statement, if only due to how she had happily labeled herself his traveling partner when they first met. While he had been the one to strike a conversation, telling him whether or not she saw his starter wasn’t an opening for her to tag along with him. “You don’t say.” Is all he says, words leaving the laugh with a shrug of his shoulders. Truthfully, he didn’t care. She wasn’t his problem – hell, he couldn’t even recall her name – and if she decided to mob a trainer for a ride back to town then so be it; so long as it wasn’t him.
It’s the mention of the festival that gets him tapping at the egg once more, one of no rhythm or pace as he recalls the events of the cave exploration. At first there was nothing, a late arrival by someone they had been traveling with, but other than that it was calm (albeit boring). It’s only when they get deeper, attracting the attention of a passing Lairon that things take a turn. One move – a snap of a bone that should never be broken – and silence. Not many people could say they watched a Pokemon be killed, or even say they were responsible for killing one. “Enjoy isn’t exactly the word I would use.” He scoffs, “I’m surprised you didn’t get a mouth full from Evan if you met him. If you haven’t noticed he likes to talk.” It’s a comment that just slips out on his part, one he regrets saying aloud – and if Syndra relays it back to the redhead he’s sure he’s going to hear it from him after he finds out. “Long story short, our guide was horrible. They call themselves rangers but really, all they do is stand around waiting for other people to do their job for them.” To him he’s being honest. If their guide had jumped in when the Pokemon had appeared the outcome would have been different. “Someone in our group killed a Pokemon, and after that everyone but myself were all a little too sensitive to hear the truth about that tour.” The rest of the festival was alright, though after the situation in the cave everything had gone by in a blur. “Overall, I hated it.”

When she asked if he 'enjoyed the festival' she did not anticipate all the loads of information she had received. It sounded more like a rant. All she was expecting was a mere yes or no. The longer that Noah spoke on the subject the more the green haired girl's smile diminished into a frown. Evan had told her nothing except that their tour had been rather eventful and that he rather not talk about it. Noah seemed to have expected the red head to have told her everything about it.
The first part about the guide was exactly the same as Syndra's guide, reinforcing her thought that the rangers were not competent enough to actually lead an expedition. The one that had gone with them had even startled one of the local pokemon. If that wasn't enough the entire thing was set up in the first place so there was no real adventure to be had. It even had a little gift shop at the end like it was some tourist trap. Shaking her head at the memory the next part froze her up. "Killed a pokemon?" she repeated the words questioningly. It reminded her of when she had met Basil and Scar for the first time... with Scar killing and eating a Pidove. There was no inquiry as to whether or not it had been Scar for she felt as if it was better for her not to know. Now it was more understandable why Miles and Evan were more likely than not to divert their thoughts away from that memory.
He hated the festival or rather hated the tour. That was what Syndra got out of this. If that was the case then maybe Evan and Noah were on bad terms after all. Unsure of what to say or do, the girl stood there in silence momentarily. It wasn't her duty to fix things but she would attempt to lighten the mood. "Do you... want a hug?" Hesitation was there but nevertheless the female opened her arms as if ready to give the man a hug. There was a 99% chance that this was going to get shot down and that would be perfectly fine. The angry one would probably feel uncomfortable and storm off to which she would follow but at least maybe it would provoke some response that wasn't just anger at the festival and his friends.
[attr="class","idfc3"]i told you it was going to be a short post and really shitty!! also my room feels like 94 degrees and the sun is blazing in my room and i feel like i want to die. i still have 9k posts left fuck
[attr="class","idfc4"]He wonders why Evan hadn’t given the girl an ear full of the events that happened within the cave. Surely there was enough information to have a had a lengthy conversation about what had transpired; it wasn’t a simple conversation to have when telling the story of a death. With the way Evan opened up to people, ranted without even knowing it, Noah had assumed right away that she knew the whole story inside and out, possibly minus a few details here and there. When she had repeated what was -- more than likely -- the highlight of the whole story Noah simply raised an eyebrow to the words, nodding his head just barely before looking off to the side. Had Evan not say anything to her about it? Strange.
The story hadn’t been told for any form of sympathy on what he had witnessed with everyone, nor was it told looking for what the girl offered him next. He had relayed the information because he had been asked, and he had answered as truthfully as possible -- maybe even more so than needed -- so when she opened her arms, offering a hug in his direction Noahs’ eyes narrowed at the gesture. There was no way in hell he would say yes to this, and if she thought for just a second that there was a chance he would she was stupider than he once thought.
His expression twisted, disgust evident in the way his lips curve in a scowl, his eyes remaining narrow and glaring in her direction. “Put your arms down now.” he hissed, taking a half a step back as he spoke to put distance between the two. Given the fact that she had the audacity to ask him for a hug made him question if she would just step forward and go about it no matter his answer. “Why the fuck would you even think I would want one,” he asks, “I’m not Evan, I don’t like that type of thing.”
[attr="class","idfc5"]POKEMON NAME, TYPE (ABILITY) MOVE -- SET -- HERE WHEN YOU BATTLE! JUST PUT YOUR NOTES! ON WHAT YOU DID! IN YOUR POST!
That... was pretty much what Syndra expected from Noah. He hadn't stormed off but he did scold her and back away as if he feared she would actually cling to him like a child. As demanded she lowered her arms though a smile grew on her face instead. The angry man ranted and raged about at the mere thought of it, even going as far as to ask why she would think he wanted one. To that the female gave a shrug. It was an attempt and partially a joke. However the positive thing about it was that Noah had brought Evan into this as a comparison and she raised a brow at this. Just how would Noah have known that Evan liked hugs? With a content scoff she replied, "Funny. Evan was the one that suggested it." The red head had in fact suggested it the last time the two spoke and stated how she might be surprised at the response she got. She very much wasn't. Evan was sure to hear about this later.
For now she had ascertained that the duo was most likely gay. Most likely for each other but whether they knew it themselves yet or not remained a mystery. It was not as if the female trainer had seen them interact with each other. She had met them separately. Plus knowing Noah even if they had been seen together they weren't the types to flaunt around their relation to each other. "In any case you probably talk to him if you haven't already. Last I spoke with him, he sounded very very concerned about you," she stated whimsically as she turned back to the berry tree. "Asked if I had spoken to you and all that."
Okay you, this is what short is. Don't talk to me about short
There had been no second, no momentary thought to step back to where he once stood; and rather, his footing was steady where they had landed. He wasn’t going to risk the chance of any sort of physical contact with the girl. While there was some doubt to her going through with her request no matter his resounding denial the simple fact that she had the audacity to ask spoke volumes. The lowering of her arms had helped his opinion on her some, however the smile still evident on her face -- the one that seemed to grow due to his disdain -- halted its progress greatly. She was annoying, less so than others he had met in this region and previous but annoying none the less. It’s only when Syndra made it known why she had chosen to do what she had that Noahs’ expression changed, shifting his gaze from her to the side where she stood. Of course he had been the reason for that.
“If you know what’s good for you I wouldn’t take his suggestions,” he stated, recalling the moment the boy had said the direction the group took in the exploration. Evan had his moments like many did to give good advice, however at this time his rate for success was dwindling to zero. As she speaks he goes silent again, shifting his gaze to the green-haired girl before staring back down at the item in his hand. He wasn’t sure why Evan would go to this girl with things concerning him, as though he would confine anything in what was (essentially) a total stranger. The boy would have better luck finding things out from Alistair, and he hadn’t seen him in a year. “Sounds like he was just being nosy.” he murmured, more so to himself than anything else.
The next moment time he looks up he notices the girls attention being placed on the tree he had found her near when running into her. “Sounds like you to had an exciting conversation together then,” he begins, and there’s an edge to his tone that he doesn’t realize is there. “Did you ‘run into him’ like you do me all the time,” he questions, “or did you trap him into taking you to the next town?”
Here he was being rude again. Honestly Syndra wasn't sure why she even tried as she exhaled a lingering breath. What exactly did Evan see in this guy anyway? Maybe he showed his nicer side in front of the red head? With a glance to him out of the corner of her eye as she continued to face the tree she responded promptly. "If I remember right, you ran into me this time." She'd let that statement sink in as she tried not to take offense to his latest statement. One time and some people couldn't let it go. It wasn't even a bad interaction and he was the one that lost his Poochyena in the first place. He was lucky Syndra never brought that subject up.
"But no, nothing too exciting. We just spoke together on the beach. Had a quick practice battle and then parted ways at the pokemon center." She decided to leave out the part where the two went to lunch together at the cafe. Not only was that awkward to bring up, but it was straight. There was no need to add that in. Plus Evan had paid for the two of them so that wouldn't bring a pleasant atmosphere between them either. That said Syndra kept her eye on Noah and wouldn't have blamed him if he looked concerned or rushed off to find his boyfriend after she said that. Instead he stayed there was that angsty look on his face and snide comments. Just what was he thinking?
Holding her hands behind her back now, her eyes left the darker male to move her gaze up to the branches overhead. "You really aren't worried?"
something’s at his nerves, twisting them ever-so slightly, fading from existence quick enough for noah to lose track of the source. it continues on as he speaks, questioning the girl of her time with evan that had led her to go about his idiotic request; and it doesn’t fade when her voice rings out. it’s annoying, whatever it might be -- and though it escapes his logic what it is is apparent. albeit oddly placed, it’s jealousy none the less. there’s no reason to be so but feeling that reaction usually never has an obvious source. his gaze never leaves the green haired girl -- whose name had yet to return to him through the passing of time -- and while he watches her hands reach for the branches of the trees his fingers continue to drum an inconsistent rhyme on the eggs shell.
the most he does to her comment of their meeting is a quick roll of his eyes, narrowing slightly as they return to focus on her figure. she was right for the most part. whatever god was pulling the strings of his chosen direction had led him right to her yet again, but that was beside the point. it was mistake on his part, he knows this much more than before now. he should have just walked away, said nothing when that small twinge of recollection had hit him when she came into view and minded his own damn buisness elsewhere.
her answer does nothing to quiet that feeling jabbing at his side, and if anything it causes questions to rise in his mind, linger at the end of his tongue only to be swallowed back. “i see.” he hums, words barely being made out as his voice lowers along with his eyes. there’s contemplation on keeping silent and letting whatever it is that’s bugging him sit and die without any attention -- but like before when he had chosen to walk up to the girl he makes another mistake. “sounds like you two had fun. so are you guys nearing best friend status or are you going to feel it out come the following girls night out?” it’s a rather ignorant remark on his part, spoken in the same manner as before when he had questioned her; but this time he catches it and frowns.
he still can’t pinpoint why he’s acting this way -- ‘ruder than normal’ he thinks others might say -- and that in itself keeps his mood sour. maybe it was what had happened in the exploration that was rubbing him the wrong way, and the mention of evan had only resurfaced why he had left the group for a day or so. his thought process is cut when she asks her own question and when his eyes meet hers for a moment he only scoffs, “don’t put words in my mouth. i never said i wasn’t worried.” he had been the entire time he was away -- in his own strange way of doing so -- which had added on to his slow ascent back to face whatever might be said.
“if something was wrong he would have said something to me.” he persists, and almost instantly his mind recalls the times evan had brought up things when he shouldn’t have, started arguments between them over the countless topics noah didn’t want to discuss. than he thinks of everything else, those moments when evan seemed to be hiding something else -- something noah had never pushed on finding out -- or accidentally had found the right button to push to realize there was something more going on. no he wouldn’t, he thinks, shoulders slumping slightly. he’s silent for a second, collecting his thoughts between that still persistent feeling pushing at him before he speaks. “what’s it to you anyway whether he’s concerned or i’m worried. don’t go playing messenger in business you’re not wanted in.” he begins, “you should have your own problems so just focus on those rather than what may or may not be happening in someone elses life.”
His jabs didn't bother her much. Syndra was the lighthearted individual that had since their first meeting accepted that Noah was a fairly angry individual that enjoyed his own privacy. He could roll his eyes and spout insults all he wanted and it wouldn't bother her. It would have taken something large and traumatizing to make her feel deterred at this point. That said the darker toned male was beginning to get more defensive. Protective even of himself and his relationship with the red haired man. It was understandable. "That's why I mentioned he was looking for you. Maybe I just expected you to run off after that instead of still talking to me." She shrugs to show that it didn't matter much to her. She was worried about them as a whole as it by no means affected her much other than the awkward moment on occasion when the other was mentioned in front of one.
As for having her own concerns she shook her head slightly. That was the best part about her lifestyle. She didn't have to worry about much aside from where to go next and what to do. "No. Not in particularly. Just harvesting berries at the moment." She motioned up towards the berry tree yet again to emphasis her point. That was what she had been doing here after all. Most of her time on the earlier routes were picking berries for travel later or baking at the pokemon center but nothing too serious. She thought that much was obvious. Was Noah really that upset to not have noticed? She hummed in thought. "I'm worried about you two. Why shouldn't I be worried about my friends?" In a way that was her most prominent concern for now.
