With the morning dew freshly on the ground each step that Risu began to talk made a small pitter patter noise. His arms marched high and his legs going just about to his chest. What more did he possibly need? He made his new friend already, Toki the Scyther. What new adventures awaited him? His friend!? Oh that's correct his 'older' twin brother Usa was coming to enjoy the journey, his dream was to become a ranger. The two brothers while similar couldn't be anymore different. Risu wanted to spread his arms far and wide to show that he had what it took to become a trainer. While Usa would be helping those all around him. While that isn't a wrong thing to do, Risu felt that he could make an impact while on his adventure as a whole. Helping people or not discovering new things, and most of all showing everyone he has exactly what it takes.
"Yeah! Come on Usagi you're slowing us down and we just began!" Despite the idea of waking up at roughly four in the morning to start their adventure he felt no regret. It was just pure excitement was his brother feeling the exact same way? Or was he struggling to get around? "C'mon Toki and I are ready for this thing to start!"
His right eyebrow twitched. "Usagi?? What did I tell you about...Oh, never mind". He began to walk faster so as to catch up to his little brother. "I'm just as excited as you, but we don't need to rush". He reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper - it was a hand drawn map. "We should probably decide on where we're going first and make a plan for what we're going to do".
Usa had been preparing for the day his journey started for a while now. He had made sure his clothes were clean and that he was neatly put together. After all, you never know who you might meet on a journey, right? Furthermore, with his brother being the way he was (the lovable carefree one), he had to make sure that at least one of them was polite, put together and presentable. "Please refrain from running around like you always seem to do, squirrel" he cautioned, "It's early, but there might still be trainers around"...
Risu had his little moment of glory while the walk began then his brother had caught up. He had perched his neck behind him to see his brother wondering about where to go as he was methodically planning where they were to go next after route 101. He figured it was more of a straight shot, after all didn't the Hoenn region seem a bit linear? Usa did have a point however, there could be trainers about even this early. Despite being a trainer he didn't want to battle someone so early in the morning or into the journey, after all practice does take time but he didn't want to use that time and have Toki lose the battle. "Say you think we could find anything really cool this early on? OR.. OR how are you and I going to decide who catches what pokemon?"
"Decide who caught what pokemon...?" Usa thought. "Did it really matter?" He shrugged his shoulders and then made a tired expression: "Does it really matter who catches what", he asked. "As long as the pokemon are happy, who cares". He raised his right hand to sky and then placed his left hand on his chest -- this was his typical I'm-about-to-give-a-speech pose.
"I mean, that's all that matters, right?" he announced proudly as he began to pace from left to right. "Yes, pokemon's happiness is key", he continued. Now his facial expression had shifted to one of profoundness as if he had stumbled upon some profound realization. "Now, if you mean to ask which pokemon is more strategic for either of us to have, well that's a different question".
He paused to take a deep breath and then continued: "I think you should find yourself a ground type or water type or rock type...those are probably the most compatible types with your scyther". He smirked while nodding his head. "Yes, those are the best types for you indeed". Now he was looking out into the distance, as if he were watching his brother battle some stranger. "I, on the other hand, would probably need something that can withstand a fighting attack"... The realization that that might be a flying type made his body shiver. "Hmm, maybe a psychic type?" he announced with an awkward grin on his face.
Risu listened intently to what his brother was saying about strategy, then he was lost after his brother said finding a water pokemon. It made him shiver, he understand he didn't have a dislike for water pokemon like his brother did for flying types. The biggest issue was that a water type would mean large bodies of water at some point. Something he could stand into would be nice. Nothing... too deep? In all reality water pokemon were cute, he just didn't want the situation to come where he needed to trust one for large bodies of water.
"Sure a psychic type sounds fair for you right? Mister brainiac." He jokingly responded with as he continued walking "But what I meant was, we are both likable guys I think just about any pokemon would be happy with us.Like if it likes both of us, and we both like that Pokemon, who gets first try to catch it?"
"Sure, mock me now...but, I'm sure my smarts will come in handy very soon!". His face now returned to his usual scowl. "I was expecting you to say something like...you should get a ghost type onii-sama...but, I guess that's too much to ask from the family free-spirit". He smiled slightly to signify that he too was joking, but quickly returned his face to a 'natural' scowl. "I suppose that is a good question, however" he said as he hopped beside his brother and tried to maintain the same walking speed. "I think in that case we should rock-paper-scizor for it..." He looked ahead for a moment. Thinking. He continued: "Or, perhaps we should come up with some sort of rule...like if the pokemon's type benefits one of our teams more, we should let that person have it". He smirked and then nodded. "That seems most fitting...but, I suppose we could also battle for it". He paused for a moment and then continued: "But, I have my own set of criteria that I'm looking for in a pokemon...I doubt they will coincide with yours...but, you never know".
"Rock paper scissors eh? Sure I like the sound of that." He continued walking there wasn't any other trainers in sight at the moment, his first battle ever couldn't be against his brother. That wouldn't be fun at all, in fact his brother might let him win and that would give him false confidence! He turned to his brother and pointed directly at him. "Don't you dare give me false confidence!" He said almost out of random and continued walking. He could hear brushing in the nearby, were there any pokemon there? He began walking through some of the bushes carefully not wanting to harm or interrupt any pokemon that might be near.
Usa couldn't help but let out a loud sigh. Random as always, his brother never failed to take things in an unexpected direction. He shrugged his shoulders and took a few steps forward towards his brother. "I guess the discussion about who got to catch what was over as quickly as it started", he thought. In all fairness, rock-paper-scizor was the better option. It was guaranteed to prevent conflict. "Then again...", he thought, "It would probably be better if I, as the older brother, caught my second Pokemon first". He let the thought sit for a while and then shrugged his shoulders again. "Oh well..." he muttered to himself, "If the Pokemon doesn't complement Leonidas, there's no point in trying to catch it".
He watched with a puzzled look on his face as his brother walked into the bushes. Was it a Pokemon? Truthfully, he too had heard the rustling sounds coming from the bushes. But, encountering a Pokemon so early on in their journey couldn't be THAT easy, right? Usa wasn't getting his hopes up. But, he couldn't help but feel curious about what was there. Instinctively, he yelled: "Be careful Squirrel... whatever is there might be dangerous, and we haven't gotten any medical supplies yet!"
At that time Risu was searching with excitement slowly turned towards disappointment. He looked around a few more times, he didn't find any pokemon at all. It was almost disheartening. He turned to his brother and shook his head in a 'no' type fashion. "Ah well we will find one eventually right?" He looked around again and started moving forward, maybe battling his brother wouldn't be such a bad idea? They both could use the practice, after all him and Toki would easily beat his brother. He raised one arm into the sky and turned to his brother again. "I've changed my mind lets battle instead.
WITH ALL MY STRENGTH, I WILL FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!
Usa watched as his brother's facial expression shifted from excitement to disappointment. "I guess there really wasn't a Pokemon there" he thought. His brother confirmed this assumption when he turned to signal that there was nothing there. "Better luck next time, bro" he yelled as he walked closer. "You probably wouldn't know what to do if it really was a Pokemon anyway, right?" he said jokingly and then let out a huge laugh.
I've changed my mind, let's battle instead...
Usa smirked after his brother made the proposal to battle. "Sure, why not?" he replied as he reached for the pokeball that housed his coveted starter Pokemon. "I promise not to go easy on you" he continued. "Come on out Leonidas" he yelled as he tossed the pokeball into the air.
Out from a bright red light came a grim looking figure. With four legs, sharp looking claws and a single horn, it landed elegantly on the ground. Its eyes were closed, and it stood still for while. Its pose was almost ominous. As the Pokemon opened its eyes, it tilted its head backward and let out a loud "Aruuu". The fur around its neck danced as it did. Usa looked on at his Pokemon with a proud glimmer in his eyes. "Beautiful...just beautiful..." he thought as the Pokemon continued to howl. He nodded in the direction of his brother... "Well? Shall we begin?"
they are the sandbat duo! sandshrew and zubat, their unlikely friendship would survive together. they come across the trainers. this is the first test of their trial! sandshrew splashes the ground and sends a sand attack towards them, while zubat screams and uses supersonic.
As the two brothers stared each other down they were ready to do battle with one another. Risu had grabbed his partner Toki's pokeball and tossed it on the ground. Toki the Scyther came out making his noises as always. He looked at his pokemon Toki truly was majestic, a bug pokemon with sword for hands it was interesting, that was before he he saw something come straight at him. His brother wouldn't have given a cheap shot. Sand attack?! "Looks like we are under attack bro!" He turned in a dramatic way having his over jacket flow in the wind. Toki was wiping the sand off his own eyes. Toki then glared at the Sandshrew.
Risu watched the two pokemon a Sandshrew... and a Zubat? That's definitely a strange combination. It seemed like the Zubat was the boss, could this be a symbolic battle?! "Usa, I like the way that Sandshrew looks it has some fighting spirit there." He paused for a moment, and looked at his brother from the corner of his eye. "You mind if I go for that hard shell pokemon?" Without hesitation from his brother he didn't mind who caught what exactly. The biggest thing was making sure their first wild encounter was successful. "Toki! Use Quick attack! Get revenge for that Sand in your eyes! He called out then watched Toki go at a high velocity rate towards the Sandshrew before side tackling the small rodent. "Scyther!!!!" Toki was clearly a more boisterous pokemon than what he had expected even bragging after his first hit was landed.
WITH ALL MY STRENGTH, I WILL FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!
For a brief moment, Usa was excited. This was the first battle he would have had along side Leonidas. Sure, they had done some simple training...practice really...on a tree, but nothing won over real life experience.
As Usa braced himself for his brother to send out his Pokemon, a sharp sound emanated from the right of him. "A supersonic?" he thought... "No, it couldn't be..." He had little time to think any further. The sound was causing his ear to ache. Instinctively, he covered them as he quickly turned to see where the sound was coming from. To his surprise and horror, it was coming from a Pokemon. A flying Pokemon. It wasn't that he was terrified of flying types. It was more so that he didn't trust them. He didn't feel comfortable around them. He didn't want to be near them. Fortune was indeed a cruel one if this Pokemon were to be is first ever capture.
Usa had no time to react. He could feel his knees buckling. "Is Risu being hit by this attack too?" he thought. He had not noticed just yet that his brother was in a similar, albeit less dramatic, situation of his own. Worry began to crowd his mind... suddenly, he found himself on the floor. "Wha...?" he uttered, as he tried to get a grasp of what had happened. It was absol. The Pokemon had managed to withstand the supersonic long enough to save his trainer from it.
Usa stood up to find Leonidas confused - swinging his head from side to side. "Get ahold of your self Leonidas!" He yelled as he moved a bit closer. Leonidas did not respond. He just continued to swing his head. Usa glared at the zubat that had caused this to happen. "This is why I don't like them...this is why..." Before he could finish his thought, Leonidas lunged at the zubat. It seemed like it was using a Fient attack. "Wait Leonidas..." Usa yelled. But, the Pokemon did not listen. It just kept on running towards the zubat. "Use Perish Song instead, Leonidas!" He continued, but to no avail.
the pair would be relentlessness. they shake off whatever damage they'd taken and straighten themselves. with anger they attack right back again, the sandshrew drawing its claws across the absol and the zubat gaining back its health by using a leech life on the scyther.
NOTES: notes here, tagged, word count, whatever else.
Risu watched as the pokemon were doing battle, it only made him excited to watch this occur. He noticed the wild Zubat and Sandshrew switched targets. While his brother Usa and himself weren't specifically trained for double battles they had to have decent enough synergy. Toki had taken some damage from the leech life but it wasn't anything too serious.
"Toki! Quick attack, don't keep your eyes off of that hard shell!" Toki ignored the attack from Zubat and went straight towards the sandshrew that was clawing at his brothers pokemon Leonidas, there wasn't much to do. This was all up to the pokemon to continue brawling it out until one got tired, there wasn't much variation that could be done with their moves.
Toki examined Sandshrew once more before using his own speedy technique giving a small leer towards the small mouse like pokemon. Lowering its defenses and going in for another side tackle.
