She could not dodge the tackle as it was made in direct retaliation of her own pound attack, but she could definitely dance out of the way of the freeze dry, being as quick and small as she was. The buneary found herself terribly hurt, and could only manage a weak pound in the direction of the swinub. At least she wasn't laughing anymore....

"Finish it off." Dmitri was still eyeing his pokedex as the Swinub charged in for another tackle. He was bounding for the Buneary, though it smacked him down with Pound just as he connected. Did that work? He looked up to check the ongoing battle.
"Use Freeze-Dry before it can get out of reach." Broski loosed frozen hell upon the enemy, blasting a point blank frigid assault on its face. Assuming the attack landed, it would have fainted by now. He walked up to it, attempting to toss a pokeball before hesitating abruptly. I need to guarantee it has fainted first. He pointed at the Buneary, intending Broski to inspect wherever it might have fallen.
Broski was hit by Pound! Broski used Tackle! Broski used Freeze-Dry!

The ice was simply too much to handle at once- but the Buneary was greatful nonetheless for the quick cure to her hysteria. The pokemon fainted, falling as a lump of cold, half frozen fur to the Swinub's feet. The attack, at least, didn't hurt so much as gave you a numb, lifeless feeling. It was a painless battle, anyway.
buneary faints. swinub gains 1 level. capture? another pokemon?

"Alright Broski, that's enough." He tapped an empty pokeball and tossed it at the fainted Buneary, which faded into a red gleam before the pokeball entrapped it. Should I name it right now...? Nah. Dmitri cinched it to his belt and urged their search forward, Broski the Swinub leading the party with a kick in his step. He seems pleased. Perhaps he would feel otherwise when they faced Norman, Petalburg's Gym leader.
But enough of the deep thinking for now, he was pushing through tall grass and could hear the cries of pokemon all around. Broski could smell them, but he seemed to follow an unusual path that led away from the commotion a few yards to their right. Instead he took a sharp left, and turned towards a forest with a darkened atmosphere. What's he looking for? Whatever it was, Broski suddenly scampered forward with a burst of energy and challenge it head-on.
Broski is standing by!

The croagunk looked at the trainer. Croak. The croagunk eyed the swinub. Croak. The croagunk's eyes became fiercer, and the look turned to a glare. Croak. The croagunk readied a fist into the sky. Croak. Croagunk then jumped into the air, its usually croaking amplified into an astonishing shrill cry as it attempted to attack the Swinub. Croaakkk.
croagunk appears! croagunk uses astonish x2 total of 60% chance to flinch

Dmitri watched as Swinub was swiftly punished by the pokemon it had routed. Broski was a simpering mess, flinching before he could even loose any counterattack. But as the second attack came around Broski would dodge, avoiding the attack and loosing one of his own at the foul amphibian set before him. Croagunk was a formidable foe.
"Use Freeze-Dry, Broski!" Avoiding a glancing blow from Astonish, Swinub retaliated with a frigid blast that was meant to push Croagunk away from Swinub. Broski began to pant heavily, fatigued by the earlier battles. It was quintessential to keep Broski from fainting at all costs. But what could he do given the circumstances? Dmitri had no other pokemon available to battle, they were all fainted.
Broski dodged Astonish! Broski was hit by Astonish! Broski flinched (-1 Turn Move)! Broski used Freeze-Dry! (10% chance at freezing the target solid.)

Pandora What's the rule on using items? Does it count as one of the pokemon's moves-per-turn limit, or are they independent?
The freeze dry was cold, and the croagunk croaked in pain.He reacted swiftly though and move surprisingly fast enough to close the distance between him and the ice type, using his forearm to pound the target with a little poisoned touch. The croaking, however, had become more hoarse (if that was even possible), and the attacks were slowed because of the freeze dry. The croagnk then grabbed a fistful of mud to toss at the swinub.

Just try to hang in there a little bit longer, Broski. Savaging Broski seemed to be the Croagunk's strong suit as it dished out attack after attack. First a bolt punctured Swinub's hide, and Dmitri watched as landed. Thankfully the attack seemed to fail objectively; Swinub was not poisoned by the Poison Sting, a shallow wound.
Mud Slap was another issue entirely, Broski squealed and recoiled as mud splattered across his face. Worse yet he couldn't see anything, and it was hampering his accuracy. "Can you still fight, buddy?" Swinub seemed to pause before rolling its shoulders. Either it was an unknown, or Broski was flexing, preparing to repay the debt in full to Croagunk for its transgressions.
"Use Odor Sleuth!" Swinub whiffed at the air and acquiesced the Croagunk's unique scent; it was damp and dank, unusual and easily noticeable even without the Odor Sleuth. But now Mud Slap was futile, and Swinub could fight on par with the brute. He ran up to Broski then, and pulled out a Potion.
"Stay still, this is going to sting, but trust me." Dmitri oscillated the contents across Broski's body, especially dousing the spots where the Poison Sting had landed and the like. Swinub struggled against the heavy mist, flinching and recoiling as it layered over his wounds. Sw-swi-nub...! Broski pushed through the pain and emerged better for it.
Broski was hit by Poison Sting! (Broski was not poisoned.)
Broski had its accuracy lowered by Mud Slap!
Broski used Odor Sleuth!

The pace of the fighting had slowed down, and the Croagunk was allowed time to stay idle again. Croak. The brute, while he most certainly was a brute, did not have much to do other than be strong and hardly cared to think what his opponents were doing. The sniff into the air did not really bother him, nor did he understand it. Croak. Sigh, one last calm breath before--- The pokemon bounded forward, loose hanging arms grabbing sand along the way. It began using mudslap again, not knowing the Swinub could practically purely rely on smell now. After that was down the poison type let out an astonishing howl and attacking with his legs, showing off superior strength..

"Powder Snow, now!" Mud came rushing at Swinub but he effortlessly pushed through it, and the repercussions were nonexistant. A stream of harrowing snow flowed towards the Croagunk, howling as it brushed past the beast's aerial assault. Yet it came crashing down all the same, and Broski couldn't see too clearly to know. But he had Dmitri for that, and his orders were clear.
"Tackle into Croagunk as it dives!" Broski paused a moment, taking a deep breath before lunging upwards towards Croagunk. Dmitri hoped that Broski would collide the Tackle with Astonish, to avoid the flinch effect interrupting its attack. It was a critical decision Dmitri hoped was the right call to make given the circumstances.
Swinub made a cute squealing sound, but Dmitri knew this to be a battle cry. C'mon, Broski... At least try to put some bravado into it! His silent judgements went unnoted, yet the resultant clash of amphibian and swine made an abrupt crunching sound. Swinub, are you okay?! Both pokemon fell down from their collision. Broski was fine.
Broski is hit by Mud Slap! Broski's accuracy remains unaffected! Broski is hit by Astonish! Broski used Tackle!

Croagunk was not sure what it was, but it surely had never been hit by such a move before. WHile at heart it was only a simple tackle, the move manage to be used at the most perfect time, and hit his weakest part- just at his neck. THe end result being a critical, highly explosive tackle that knocked the poison type to the ground, with a swirl of dust all around it. And yet, it still stood. Croak.
The coragunk ran forward, less vigor than last time, undoubtedly, with his hand outstretched and ready for a poison sting at the opponent.
croagunk is hit by tackle! critical hit! coragunk uses poison sting! [30% poison chance]

Croagunk was damaged, but not fatally. Dmitri could tell in the way it had fell to the ground, its former zealotry suddenly given a taste of its own. Broski snorted, feeling the force of the impact made him a bit whoozy perhaps, yet he kept his ground and formed up. It took a sharp breath, starved for air.
"Freeze-Dry, now!" Croagunk was coming in for an attack, but swinub loosed a jet of icy wind as it charged. Billowing, frigid air left Dmitri shivering. Croagunk refused to relent, however, and struck Broski square in the nostril. Swi!~ Broski staggered backwards, injured and perhaps even poisoned by the poisoned jab Croagunk dealt.
"Powder Snow, while it's up close!" Another jet of snow expelled from Broski's orifice; it was a wonder how he never grew weary of this. This battle's mine. He could taste victory in the air, and such an unusual pokemon would make a great addition to his team. Please be over...

"Great job, Broski." He ran up to his pokemon, patting its fur in a congratulatory fashion. His eyes darted towards the Croagunk, whom lay feeble and unconscious on the ground. Normally he didn't enjoy frogs, but he wouldn't leave it here.
"I'm taking you with me." Pressing a pokeball against its side, croagunk was brought into his fold. He clenched the pokeball and forced himself to leave, calling it a day. There will be more pokemon to catch later. He set off.
Let's see... a Starly, a Buneary and a Croagunk. Not a bad haul. It would complement his team nicely, and, with any luck Dmitri would be challenging Petalburg Gym later that same day.
Dmitri caught Croagunk!
