welcome to calamity! we are an au pokemon site based in hoenn. we do not have canons so you can pick them as your fcs! we have a short one hundred word word count. and you get to also pick your own starter! calamity is going to focus on providing users with a good and stable plot line to follow. this helps each character progress and some might even have a play in affecting the plot! we hope you enjoy your time here and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

hello calamity! we're nearing the two months mark in a few weeks. how time flies! right now we have two things going on that need your participation. the first is an activity check! it is impotant that you check in so you don't lose your face claim. the second is the otm nomiations! we're doing it a bit different than last time. so please submit your nominations in. a vote thread will be up in the next few days. there will also be a formal event coming very soon, so keep your eye out for that. keep being cool!
we're currently about to host calamity's first contest in slatepor. trainers are flocking to the city to see, the city's been trying to get good pr since the gala, and it seems to be working! they're asking for both coordinators and volunteer judges to sign up.
CALAMITY is a roleplaying forum inspired by the popular franchise POKEMON, which does not belong to us. the skin was crafted by PHARAOH LEAP of GANGNAM STYLE. special thanks to SPIRAL for contributing ideas! all art on the forum does not belong to us unless stated otherwise, while all written works belong to the members who posted them. [attr="class","colorful1"] The change of temperature hits her first before anything else. Her skin crawls in place, sending goosebumps down her arms as she takes one; two; four steps away from the doors of the laboratory. In her hands is the circular object granted to her by this regions’ professor, twirled against her warming skin. Her eyes hadn’t left the item since she was given it inside, and if it hadn’t been for one of the workers within the building she would have ran right into a bookcase. She hadn’t, luckily -- and now, standing beneath the sun of mid day, the colors of the pokeball shown brighter than before. This was it; everything they had been told (even if she had heard that speech once already) was their last step. This -- the red and white capsule holding her starter -- was her tool in carving her new life.
It was hard to keep quite, harder to stay still as she waited for her little brother to join her out in the open. They’d make it to far reaches of this region, she just knew it. “Lets get started shall we!” she exclaimed, mixed with a joyous laugh that distorted the last syllable in her sentence -- and she could feel her cheeks begin to ache under the pressure of her smile stretching just too far. She was twelve once again, as though walking through those glass doors had sent her back years and her body was still weightless from the journey. There was no resistance against her clothes, no feeling of muscles lifting her arm up and tossing the pokeball forward -- and time slowed so she could watch every frame of gravity and technology meeting in the opening of the device.
The shape distorts from bright light, one that isn’t natural like the sunlight giving this white color a more blinding effect against her eyes -- and she can’t help but avert her gaze. It’s the first time since she was handed her new life that she looked away, and when her gaze returns her eyes scan over the tool she had been given to make everything she wants a reality. It’s not what what she expects -- he, rather, as she recalls the professor giving her the starters gender than the species -- but she’s awestruck nonetheless. Her knees bend, her body crumpling in on itself as she crouches down; it’s hard to move but she does, taking small, shuffled steps towards the bipedal blue insect who eyes her with more weariness than curiosity. “Hello there,” she coaxed, attempting to wash away its worry with a simple gesture of camaraderie, “it’s okay, we’re going to have lots of fun. You don’t need to be scared.”

his hands twitched around the pokeball as the professor patted him on the back and pushed him toward the door. he still had questions, a ton of them flying through his mind as he tried to get it out past his nervousness. how did he take care of a pokemon? what did they eat? did he have to have experience with pokemon before owning one? those were just some of the questions he wanted to ask the professor but instead he was ushered towards the door with a smile and call of good luck. his sister had already sped out with her pokeball in hand and was no doubt waiting on him outside. he didn't want to go outside. outside meant that they were finally on their own and had to deal with trying to survive in the wild with creatures that could kill them if they wanted. why did anyone find pokemon journeys fun?
so caught up in his thoughts, he didn't notice the sliding door coming up on him and walked straight into the glass doors. the doors opened automatically and his foot caught on the small threshold at the bottom. his hands flew forward to try and catch himself and lost hold of the pokeball. the object went flying out the door where he landed on the dirt right behind his sister. the pokeball flew forward and landed not too far away where it burst open to release the pokemon inside. the feebas he received instantly began to flop up and down on the ground as it looked around in confusion at the sudden release.
nori got off the ground already covered in dirt from landing on the ground. "oh god." he rushed over and looked down at the flopping feebas with panic. "oh god what do i do? i'm so sorry!" he called down to the pokemon in hopes it would forgive him for his clumsiness. "do you need water? oh god." he was beginning to panic at the thought of just killing his pokemon when he first got it. the feebas finally settled down and just stared at the strange human with confusion.
[attr="class","colorful1"] When she first watched a contest during that dazed night of hushed, drunken laughter, of movement that was just a little too obvious and loud for their stealthy attempt to sneak into the auditorium she was left starry eyed. It was everything, down to the placement of seats, or music chosen for each number. Of the combinations of move after move that did nothing but compliment the former -- and of the trainer, dressed from head to toe in garments that could rival that of queens, alongside Pokemon who were a far cry from the battle hardened creatures of tournaments. It had been everything shown to her about the world of Pokemon -- of adventures and training -- flipped completely around, dazzled and beautiful beyond words for a slurring eighteen year old. But she didn’t need words, no matter how much she wanted to find them.
A coordinators Pokemon by generic description should be beautiful, but as many always said beauty was in the eye of the beholder, and as Judith gazed up at the Heracross she saw just that. A quick glimmer, a sudden glazed shine across the hardened shell of the bug type, the way its eyes followed her tilting movement as she attempted to steady herself in her current position. The way its horn pointed upwards, curving just slightly to create a nature dip -- everything about her starter was perfect, amplified by her starry eyed mindset. She wanted to reach out, to feel how smooth its shell really was (wondered if it was how she imagined it would be) -- she wanted it to like her as much as she did (questions silently if it was as star struck as herself and simply showed it in a different way).
It all happened so fast. A noise, something crashing to the ground behind her that startles her, causes a quick pivot on her right foot that tips her just enough to come crashing to the ground. A second flash of light, one she catches just as her eyes shut at the impact of her right side hitting the hard surface of the earth -- and when she opens them again she doesn’t notice the chaos to her left. No, instead she watched the starter who had just been near her flutter off, the back of its shell revealing translucent, membrane wings that lifted its body from the ground. “Wait, wait wait wait,” she stuttered, repeating the word out as she stumbled to her feet as though she was just learning how to walk. It hadn’t gone far, and when it landed she could just make out its figure, but the distance it had put between them was still disheartening. “Don’t go…” she whined, shoulders slumped downwards before she turned her attention to the cause of her failed attempt of friendship.
“Nori!” she barked, a sour expression twisting her former wide-eyed look. Her lips parted, ready to shout his name again and relay her thoughts on what had just happened to him when she noticed his panic in regards to the flailing Feebas on the ground in front of him. “N-Nori.. yo, calm down.” she began, her tone lowering as she slowly made her way towards her brother, “Nori the thing isn’t dying or dead, see?” When she gets close her hands lift from her side, gesturing to the stilled fish staring up at them. “Now chill out and help me get my starter back since your panic attack sent it across town.”

what was he supposed to do? nori stared with panic in his eyes at the feebas that was flailing on the ground. how was he supposed to go on a journey if he couldn't even take one step out of the door? sure the feebas had calmed down but that didn't mean it was okay with being flung out of its pokeball with no water nearby. the thing was going to die and they had no even properly met yet. the sound of his sister shouting made him flinch and turn to look at her with fear. and now his sister was angry at him for making her own pokemon fly off somewhere. nope. he was going back into the lab and returning the pokemon and saying goodbye to his sister.
"how can i be calm when i've already ruined everything?" he fell down and sat right next to the water pokemon who was content with lying on the ground and staring at the strange humans. he heard judith mention how the pokemon wasn't in any danger and peeked over to stare right back at it. it looked fine but what if it had somehow been hurt when he threw the pokeball? nori looked up at the mention of her starter and stared at the heracross who was quite a distance away from them. "i'm sorry. i tripped and...sorry." he had already been dejected about starting a pokemon journey from the start and now this had happened. what a great start.
chingling wraps itself around the purrloin's neck. it dangles from his neck like a little collar. the cat snoops around the lab and when he hears the splashing of the feebas he gets hungry. that fish is going to be dinner tonight. purrloin runs into the scene with a high chinging. he takes a clawed paw and scratches at the fish to disable it first.
[attr="class","colorful1"] She hadn’t meant to sound as upset as she did the moment her brothers name left her lips, nor had she any control over the frown and wrinkled nose when she turned to look at him. Truthfully she wasn’t too upset over the whole thing, and while her starter had flown from her the moment she released it that type of situation couldn’t get fixed. Yes, now her Heracross had been startled but trainers had started with far worse -- at least from the stories she heard they had, and whatever turn of events happened to them they turned out okay. So who was to say a blossoming coordinator in Hoenn couldn’t do the same as those people.
It was her brother who would be the biggest hurdle in their adventure, or rather his bundle of nerves and anxieties keeping him from enjoying everything. The words that came out caused her to pause, stare without any thoughts coming to her mind -- and before she could open her mouth her eyes followed the boys body to the ground near the Feebas. She let a moment pass before sighing, “Nori stop it, don’t apologize. You didn’t ruin anything, and I know you know that, so quit it.” Her brother was smart, and somewhere within that brain of him must have been something telling him everything was okay -- but for whatever reason this time around he wasn’t listening to it. So if that was the case she’d have to voice out its’ thoughts instead. “Now hold tight, I’m gonna go get my child and we can start our adventure off right.”
Her arm reached out to wave as she turned on her heels and darted towards the Heracross in the distance. It wasn’t too far -- just quick jog and she’d be there -- and as she approached the bug type her eyes averted their gaze, her attention stolen by the light chiming echoing about in the silence of the small town. Oh no.
She could see the charging Purrloin, neck wrapped with something that shone in the sunlight -- and it wasn’t the sight of a possibly wild Pokemon that caught her attention but the fact that it was heading towards her brothers Pokemon. Her teeth bit against her bottom lip as her eyes focus on her Pokemon, the same one that now watches the scene about to unfold in the spot it had flew off from. “I know I messed up, but come on.” she begins, voice soft as its attention is brought to her, “just one little match, that’ll make up for everything right?” At first it's hesitant, untrusting in her approach to smooth things over between them -- but then it's back opens up once more, wings emerging to lift its body towards the coming battle. Once its’ gotten in range the Heracross lands, mouth opening as it shoots a barrage of bullet seeds towards the Purrloin. She’s not too far behind, waving at her brother with a look on her face that shows her silent apology for the late arrival. “Nori, watch out!” she shouts as her feet cut the distance between them, silently murmuring a comment on how she needs to work on the Heracross's delivery as she stops behind it.

HERACROSS USED BULLET SEED TOWARDS THE PURRLOIN !!
he wasn't cut out for this, for any of what was going on right now. he had ruined everything in less than one minute. his sister's starter had flown off somewhere and his new pokemon was now suspicious of him. everything right now was utterly ruined. nori stared down at the pokemon who was flopping up and down to get toward him. maybe it wanted to hit him on his head and beat him up for hurting it. he didn't know the first thing about taking care of pokemon and maybe it realized that.
at the sound of judtith's voice, nori stared at the ground dejectedly and only nodded when she jogged off to get her starter. shifting so he was sitting cross legged in front of the water pokemon, he stared at it in curiosity. it wasn't the most attractive looking pokemon but it had its own personal charm to it. he wasn't sure how it could be living outside of the water right now but it was just another mysterious thing about pokemon he had yet to learn. reaching a hesitant hand out, he rested it on the feebas and slowly stroked its scales as some sort of apology. he wasn't ready for the journey, far from it actually, but he knew that since he didn't have much of a choice in the matter, he would try to take care of his pokemon the best he can. it wasn't like he was alone on his journey either.
a jingle and the sound of something running through the grass alerted him to something coming closer. figuring it was probably his sisters' pokemon, he stared in confusion as a shadow came hurling at them. nori was sure the sound that escaped him wasn't manly in the slightest and something his siblings would surely tease him about if they had the chance. whatever it was, it had charged right at them and managed to scratch at the water type flopping on the ground. feebas hopped up and down in pain and glared angrily at the challenger. "wait stop!" what was he supposed to do now? he didn't know any of his pokemon's attacks and he wasn't sure he would be able to do anything against the cat. cats eat fish, they were higher on the food chain and it was something that was stuck into their heads as children from cartoons and various other sources. what could his fish pokemon do against the cat one?
"um..." he should tell it to use an attack. "use something, anything!" the heracross had already come back and started its own attack to hit the purrloin. nori moved out of the way quickly in the chance that he might get hit with the pokemon's attacks right away. the feebas saw that it was needed to battle and used the only move it knew how. the water pokemon began to flop intensely on the ground toward the purrloin to show it meant business. it looked like a little dance.
oh no, purrloin notices with horror. they've noticed. now there's two pokemon on his tail! the bullets make impact straight on his side. he hisses in pain as they do. with a flick of his neck chingling is launched across the air. the pokemon goes to wrap itself across the heracross while purrloin scratches again at the useless fish.
