He finds himself here, the only reasons he's come back to this city filled with only regrets and a certain sadness he refuses to delve deeper in. He moves into the museum eyes colder than usual moving past exhibits he's seen ten twenty times over in his youth. He wants to get this over with, his team chosen particularly meet this need, in that if he'd guessed right it would get him in and out of this city as fast as possible. He walks up the stairs eying the gym statue moving through the passerbys, five years ago this was all just a dream, challenging leaders coming to the gym looking for an actual fight. But here he stood on his own two feet life having gifted him this opportunity only after taking something of equal value away. As for why he fights he still has no idea, he's yet to find himself on this journey spanning the regions, but the feeling of closeness that maybe something will be revealed to him, a 'start' if you will is close at hand. It may not be in this battle, it may not be in the next but something was to surface soon, of that much he was certain.
"I'm here for a match." There's no fear in his voice, but in a weird parallel there's no cockiness either. He tosses a pokeball only to catch it brandishing the item casually waiting for someone to respond to his challenge. It's only now he realizes he's never met the Rustboro gym leader in all the time he's been in the city.
from the rocky depths of the gym roxanne steps forward. she's an honors student by heart, and eager to learn. with this ambition she climbed her way up to the gym leader position she has now. with a glint in her eyes she stares at her challenger.
"welcome to the gym. hope i learn something from this." she says with a glint in her eye before throwing a pokeball.
"you get the first move."

"Good, the faster this ends the better." A pokeball flies from his palm quickly the orb releasing no pokemon other than bulbasaur in a flash of light before the ball returns to his hand. He'd been given the first move, and as such the trainer was sure not to waste it. "Start off with Poison Powder and Leech Seed." The trainer calls to the small grass type who does as ordered. Releasing a wave of noxious powder before firing a single seed hidden in the cloud of poisonous spores. The trainers eyes watch the battle and particularly bulbasaur the pokemon's movements were rather strange today, not to mention the pokemon had been growing tremendously as of late. He can't help but wonder what exactly was going on.
He'd definitely be sure to give the grass type a look over once the battle ended.
roxanne looks on as the bulbasaur is called out. she puts up a pointing finger, the other hand rests on his hip. "ah yes, good type advantage." she says, nodding. this match will be pretty easy, then.
it starts off by shaking a purple powder onto the geodude before flicking leech seeds at it. "dodge those leech seeds, if you will." she calls out. geodude rolls out of the way of the seeds, but in turn goes directly into the cloud of powder. it coughs and struggles as the poison takes effect.
"oh, some setting up." she notes. smart move. "alrighty, now use a defense curl and rollout!" she says. the pokemon wraps its hands around its body, rolling in place before launching straight at the pokemon.

The combination wasn't an entire success, but at least the pokemon had been poisoned. This time around the gym leader seemed a cut above the others he's fought recently barring maybe one or two people. Her combination is one he's familiar with it was one of Syndra's favorites after all. "Use vine whip to throw it and knock it out of its rollout, follow up with leech seed." The trainer orders calmly, The grass type steels itself for the attack the rollout making contact as the pokemon spreads it's vines in attempt to grab the rock type before once again firing seeds that would leech away the rock type's life if they connected.
Miles watches closely his eyes focused on the two pokemon the girl had combinations, but the red head was by no means worried he had a number of his own combinations as well, he wouldn't lose here, not when he was so close to finally leaving this wretched city.
geodude rolls right into the pokemon, but not before the vines grab ahold of it's arms. geodude rips itself away from the pokemon and tries to roll away, but it's too late. it fires seeds into it's arms, and with every second that passes by a little bit more of it's energy is taken away from it. with both the leech seed and the poison, it's quickly whittling away at it's health.
"again!" roxanne calls, and with the last of the geodude's strength it rolls in place before launching at the bulbasaur.

leech seed takes effect on geodude! geodude is poisoned!

The seeds hit this time around quickly sapping life away from the rock pokemon, that and the poison damage were quickly whittling away the life of the rock type. All that was left was to deal damage and let the status effects take over. The rock type raises it's defense once again before going for another rollout the pokemon even faster this time around. "Vine whip twice over throw it, before beating it down." The Bulbasaur does as commanded the rollout connecting with the grass type as it attempts to grab the the stone with its vines. Hopefully with this the it'd end soon.
However even more than the fight Bulbasaur's body seemed to be pulsating, or perhaps the trainer's eyes were just playing tricks on him.
geodude goes down with the final vine whip. roxanne sighs and smirks. it's a smart play by the challenger. she returns the pokemon and sends out a lileep.
"resurrected right here in rustboro." she says with a lift of a chin. the pokemon idly swings from side to side. it flings it's head forwards and sends acid at the pokemon.

The stone pokemon faints, but bulbasaur stops moving entirely. The gym leader calls her next pokemon in the meantime, the red head can't even get the pokemon to dodge as it's attacked by the small plant. Just as the acid collides however the bulbous pokemon is enveloped in a white light the pokemon's stiffness making sense all of a sudden. Miles can't help but smile his bulbasaur having become an Ivysaur now. "Ivysaur Leech Seed and Poison Powder" Miles almost feels renewed having watched his youngest pokemon evolve now.
The Ivysaur wastes o time firing a set of seeds at the root pokemon before releasing a spore of poisonous powder at the small fossil pokemon as well. Ivysaur wasn't at full health, but hopefully it'd be able to take out the lileep before he was taking out himself.
a sudden white glow suddenly surrounds bulbasaur. its form morphs and transforms into a bigger, tougher version of the pokemon before. it's now an ivysaur. "wowee, i haven't seen that in a while." she says. it just makes the battle all the more exciting. this triner seems experienced enough, but when he orders his pokemon to shoot off another leech seed, she smiles.
"nice try, but lileep's a grass type. they can't get leech seeded." she snickers, although the poison powder does take effect. she needs to minimize the effect that it has easily, though.
"alright, use ingrain and spit out another acid at it." she says. lileep digs its feet into the ground. it sends out vines from there, sucking up the nutrients from below. after anchoring itself to the dirt, lileep leans forward and spits more acid at the pokemon.

Ivysaur despite having just evolved hard sustained a fair share of damage in the previous battle, and due to his own ignorance the tainer had wasted a move as another acid hits the larger grass type pokemon collapses too weary to continue. The trainer frowns not entirely mad at the situation, but definitely not pleased with his own stupidity His urge to leave is getting the better of him and so as the dinosaur pokemon collapses he calls the next pokemon out. "Staryu you're up." The Water type star pokemon lands surveying it's surroundings quickly, before the trainer gives his next order. "Ice Beam Twice over." The girl had made note her fossil pokemon wasn't only rock but grass as well Ice beam would deal double damage twice over Ice trumping both rock and grass effectively. In it's last turn the small plant pokemon had used ingrain leaving for a still target as well. His eyes follow the gym leader now ready to kick the battle into high gear again.
Ivysaur faints Staryu is sent out Staryu uses Ice Beam X2
despite the ivysaur fainting, the trainer still has a viable backup plan. he sends out a staryu, which conveniently knew ice beam. it shoots out a bar of ice at the lileep, easily taking it down in a shot. roxanne nods eagerly. it's always best to have a way to recover if things go south.
she takes out the final pokemon and throws it. a pokemon with a giant nose forms. it's eyes are eternally shut, but it's ears (or the equivalent to it) works just fine.
"alright, thunder wave and rock blast!"

The Lileep goes down instantly and as such the gym leader calls out her final pokemon. The woman wastes no time taking the offensive her Nosepass striking first with thunder-wave before following up with rock blast. "Camouflage into ice beam!" The red haired trainer calls soon after the water type pokemon not only blending in with the surrounding but becoming a rock type pokemon as well. During the camouflage however the star pokemon was struck with paralysis and bombarded with rocks that did far less damage thanks to the camouflage. As the dust rose from the rock type attack the staryu would almost disappear from sight before launching an ice beam from behind the rock type once again the trainer relying on super effective damage.
