the shadows are getting longer and we know no envy
It took Kristmar a few seconds to realize that the elated thrill that came with winning wasn't shared, as it normally was, with Adelaide. Usually he'd be able to sense her glee on coming out victorious through their telepathic channel but, this time, there was no such emotion. There was only quiet and growing concern. The wide smile that'd shaped Kris' lips faded a little as he looked over at his pokémon. The psychic type wasn't even looking his way but, instead, had her gaze locked in Usa's direction.
Kristmar, she communicated after a moment, twisting around to look back at her trainer, simply calling his name but with a serious tone to it. Mildly confused, Kris let his eyes wander back to Usa but, this time, noticing the way his cheeks appeared to glisten.
Oh. Oh, dear.
Adelaide - being a pokémon that was very in touch with the emotions around her - had caught on instantly, which'd explained why she hadn't revelled in her victory like her trainer. Kris could deal with people getting sour over losing but he'd never made someone cry. The blonde's cerise eyes widened and, not knowing what else to do, called back Adelaide to her pokéball while striding over.
"H-Hey..." He called out hesitantly, softly, once he was close enough. "You alright, Usa?" Where'd the peppy and enthusiastic boy from before gone? No tears, please, no tears. "You put up a really good battle!" He tried to reassure him, flapping his hands a little, unsure what else to do, "I was sure Adelaide was going to lose against your absol; I really underestimated how hard he could hit." Did he pat his shoulder? Rub his arm? Would that seem condescending?
