Sylvester had been strutting around the area for quite some time, almost as if looking for a fight—but there had been nobody around to fight for the last several hours. He looked restless, and it was thanks to the agitation of having nobody to battle. 'I need to test myself against trainers other than Darius or Syndra.' After all, they weren't the only other trainers in the world. How far could Sylvester get if he only battled 2 people on a regular basis? 'That won't do.' He had to find someone else to battle...
That was when he saw a silhouette breaking onto the route's path before him, heading wayward towards him from Petalburg City. 'A trainer, I hope.' Sylvester approached them on foot, realizing as he got closer just who it was. "Long time no see..." A sarcastic comment, though it was good to see another familiar face.
"Dmitri." A subtle nod, acknowledging the other trainer. "Care to battle?" Their last fight had left Sylvester with the bitter taste of defeat in his mouth.

"Oh, you again!" Dmitri hadn't seen Sylvester for at least a few days, perhaps longer. Timekeeping wasn't his strongest suit. But battling certainly was, or his name wasn't Dmitri Khvostov! I can't back down to a challenge! Not after such a hot streak he was on.
"Fine! Let's see who wins this time." Broski was his pokemon of choice, as always. Perhaps Sylvester would send out that Shroomish like before. Can't count on it. He prepared for the worst, and reached back towards his pokeballs instinctively. Might need to switch.
"Who are you going to choose?" As of yet Sylvester hadn't released anything. Maybe he'll show me that Sylveon of his. It was all a guessing game at this point. Hurry up, the suspense is getting to me. He bit his cheeks nervously.
Broski is standing by!

'Seems like he is in a good mood.' Giving a faint smile, Sylvester reached for one of his pokeballs, allowing it to enlarge in his hand before the red light summoned his pokemon of choice. "You can fight Gunther. He's new to the team." The little bird was now presently seen flapping its wings just in front of Sylvester.
Of course, Sylvester knew this was an inadvisable decision. Yet, he wanted to test his pokemon against something strong. Swinub would just have to make due, even though Gunther was inherently weak to any ice type pokemon to begin with. 'Just like my old Shroomish...' The battle already wasn't looking well for him. Though, he would probably change that by introducing his other new pokemon. Dmitri had better caught something good if he had hopes of defeating Sylvester outright.
"Gunther, use Peck on his Swinub." The bird nodded before making a swift flight over to Dmitri's pokemon, making a steep swooping to land a peck right on the top of the head. "One more time." Before long Gunther rounded about, descending unto the Swinub with its beak once more. 'Now I need to hope his ice attacks don't hit their mark.'
Post by Dmitri Khvostov on Jul 17, 2015 1:19:11 GMT
"Blast Gunther with Powder Snow!" Swablu dove in for a Peck, which was suitable for Broski's piss poor accuracy. Yeah, get in nice and close so he can hit you easy. It was a formidable attack, but Broski shrugged it off without so much as a wince; he was getting tougher.
"Dodge the next one, and follow it up with Freeze-Dry." Swinub ducked right, evading the second strike. When he rolled over onto his back, he was staring directly at Swablu's flank. Bingo. Freeze-Dry made its mark.
"Gunther doesn't look so good from where I'm standing." Maybe it's time you switched him out? Sylvester still had two pokemon left, if he so chose to switch one for a better matchup, it was well within his right.

"I wouldn't count him out of the fight, yet."'Does he really think its going to be that easy?' Sylvester knew now that he had to make his point, and right now this instance would act as the perfect proving grounds. "Gunther, keep the pecks coming!" The bird, though injured and grounded for a moment, took to the sky, its flight path bringing it right back on top of the Swinub to attack further.
"Just wait until you see my other pokemon." Yes. Let him know now that it was already too late, unless of course Dmitri managed to catch something extremely powerful since the last time they had met. 'Doubtful.' If Dmitri was still starting with Swinub, then there was a good chance he wouldn't have much anything else good for battle.
However, by the looks of it, Gunther was struggling to stay in the air, staying low to the ground and losing altitude from time to time. 'Maybe he's right...'

"Retaliate with Powder Snow!" Broski took another shot at the bird, sending a barrage of snowballs to pelt Gunther in his flank. He barrel rolled underneath another peak with ease.
Once more Broski sustained a direct hit by the Peck, but once more it also proved ineffective. Perhaps Swablu wasn't as pathetic as it looked, but it was still going to fall hard. I'll make certain of it. Broski was a fierce foe.
"Bring it down with Tackle!" Broski leapt into the air, brilliant fur blowing in the wind. He struck swift and true, bringing down his mark with a savage body check. Broski was certain to have won this skirmish, albeit closer than Dmitri had anticipated.
"Looks like you need a new pokemon."

Well, Dmitri was pretty close with what he had said moments prior. Though, it was mostly due to the powder snow now hitting Swablu. Frozen in the air, the Swinub had free reign as he caused it to crash against the ground violently. Swiftly recalling his Swablu back into it's pokeball, Sylvester quickly moved to another, summoning yet again one of his recently acquired pokemon. "Broski, meet Brolaf." The Slowpoke stood hesitantly on the field.
"Use confusion." The Slowpoke, whose mouth was shut, suddenly flashed open—almost as if happy to hear the command. Within moments the psychic attack would take it's toll on the Swinub. "Follow it up with another one." Whether or not Sylvester lost this battle mattered little now. He'dd make sure Dmitri got what was coming to him.

"Use Freeze-Dry!" Slowpoke was a known defender, capable of withstanding attacks many would consider beyond its ability to overcome. Swinub had his work cut out for him, Brolaf was certain to give him a run for his money. Broski already tucked a win under his belt, so losing now wasn't the end of it.
"Freeze-Dry again!" Something went wrong, however. As the second Confusion washed over Broski, he became disoriented and fell into confusion. He hurt himself as a result, collapsing from the fatigue and stress. But Brolaf had a dent in his armor now.
Good work, buddy. Dmitri reached for another pokeball, certain that this one would get the job done. "Bowser, let's go!" Flinging itself onto the ground, the small scorpion pokemon surveyed the landscape for a target. Skor-skor!Target acquired.
"Get ready to move!"

'Good, serves them right.' After downing the opposing Swinub, Sylvester was glad to have a victory with this pokemon. Brolaf was certainly strong, however...
"Oh come on." While at first it appeared Slowpoke was just being still like normal, with a closer look Sylvester noticed the subtle blue hue to his skin, and the ice that had formed around his head. 'He's frozen, really?!' That was a real pain, and evident on his face was the disgust with all of Dmitri's luck with his ice type pokemon. "Slowpoke, break free already!" The frustration was burning within Sylvester, every moment acting as kindling to this fervent distaste he had now been experiencing.

It was looking good where he was standing. Great work, Broski. Before he'd fainted, he left Brolaf with a parting gift. A nice encapsulating case of ice, frigid and binding. There would be nothing for Slowpoke to do but watch and wait patiently, as defeat crept upon him in the form of Bowser.
"Sneak up and Bite its exposed hide!" Bowser skittered across the grass, scuttling up onto Slowpoke's back before finding a sensitive spot, still pink and warm to the touch. Bracing itself for the anticipated wincing, Skorupi held on for dear life as it munched down on Slowpoke.
Not even a budge.
"Bite it again!" And once more, Bowser's jaws clamped down on its flank, yet it gave no more than a complacent stare. What's with that thing? Perhaps it was having trouble realizing what was going on around it. Dmitri awaited patiently, hoping the pokemon would at least stay frozen.

Saying that Sylvester was angry was putting it lightly—he was infuriated that his Slowpoke had been defeated so easily. Dmitri certainly had some good pokemon, he could give him that, but it didn't stop Sylvester from lightly begrudging him for it. "Alright, you did it now." Sylvester spoke as he noticed the tail of the slowpoke fall down, signaling that it had fainted and lost all will to move. Not only that, but the effects of the deep freeze had worn off noticeably once the Skorupi struck.
"I'll show you what true strength is." He said as he returned Brolaf to his pokeball and released yet another pokemon—this one being his third, though not his last. The red silhouette of a bipedal bird manifested before the two of them. "Flint, use peck." That would teach them a lesson. "Follow that up with your ember attack." Sylvester was going to make sure Dmitri and his pokemon knew he didn't go down easy. He had to set an example.

"Don't get Pecked!" Bowser scattered away from the Combusken, avoiding the Flying-type attack with ease. It was difficult to land such a precision attack on a Bug-type, with some of the sharpest reflexes and steadiest nerves.
But whenever Combusken sent a rogue spurt of embers towards Bowser, Dmitri silently accepted the loss. Yeah, that was going to happen one way or another. He couldn't begrudge his pokemon for losing in such a situation, it was doubly inferior to the pokemon sent out against it. Flying-type and Fire-type moves against a Bug-type?
The fight was over before it had even started.
"Here comes the finale!" Whether he won or lost, it was a good match. Sylvester had a lot of interesting pokemon that were worth meeting, as well. Despite it all, he held a figment of hope that somehow Hoodini could pull this off.

"Well, if you insist this must end now, then by all means..." Sylvester gestured towards the Combusken, who was looking to him for the orders to continue its attack. "Flint, hit the Abra with your peck." The bird-like pokemon took off in a blazing fury, practically headbutting towards the enemy pokemon with its full-fledged assault. "Follow up with peck again, don't slow down."
Wondering just what the Abra had in store for him, Sylvester was gladdened to see such a pokemon like this in battle—even if he was supposed to put it down for the count. Kanto region pokemon were some of his favorites, and it made him wonder just what other promising pokemon Dmitri would catch in the future for their next battle. 'I'll have to keep training hard to ensure he never surpasses me.'

"Dodge!" Hoodini could easily expect the pokemon to rush forward so eagerly, and he was prepared to skip around the Combusken using teleport. Combusken's initial attack missing allowed Hoodini the opening to launch his own onslaught.
"Dazzling Gleam NOW!" Abra seemed to focus for a moment, concentrating energy into its eyes before opening them to gaze upon Combusken. The spectral energy glinted in their eyes, but Combusken was the only one affected.
Yet Hoodini was vulnerable, now more than ever, as Combusken whirled around and closed in for another attempt at pecking Abra. It was a good run. Hoodini had already confessed it was highly unlikely for him to defeat this Combusken; even with a Psychic-type move, its level alone was enough to make it an uphill battle.
Without one, it was like trying to defy a constant. Abra was overwhelmed, and crashed to the ground when Flint's attack landed a direct hit. S-sorry, Dmitri. Abra was certainly more polite now than he'd ever been; Dmitri was grateful enough for that, at least.
"I... don't believe it." That Combusken is way too powerful. I'll have to watch out for it next time, it seems to be his secret sweeper. Dmitri quickly collected his pokemon, and headed over towards Sylvester to shake hands.

With the battle over and done with, Sylvester flashed a large grin towards Dmitri, whom he was now shaking hands with. Returning the Combusken, Flint, back into his pokeball, the two were able to have a quick conversation before Sylvester could take his triumphant leave. "Believe it. My Combusken has grown very strong since I fed him ten rare candies." The amount probably sounded absurd.
"Some day you'll train a pokemon to be just as strong. You just got to be determined to help your pokemon train to be as strong." And he believed Dmitri had that determination. After all, his Swinub was one of a kind. He would have to resort to Combusken more often in the upcoming fights against Dmitri. Otherwise Sylvester may very well lose to Dmitri in the future, something he didn't like.
"Well, that took a little longer than I expected. I need to get going. Train hard with your pokemon for the next time we meet. I wager another battle will take place between us." His grin faded to something more subtle as he walked away from Dmitri. While they weren't exactly friends, they were in no way strangers.
Acquaintances was more like it, and perhaps in the days to come, the two of them would indeed become good friends. But that was for another time, Sylvester's figure disappearing into the high grass.
