Sylvester had been loafing around Route 101 after obtaining a TM from Alfonzo, a young Coordinator who seemed eager to get somewhere, though no reason apparent as to why. Of all things, Sylvester did not expect to get a free TM lesson for his new pokemon, all for merely escorting the child through Route 101. It served as yet another reason for him to come back in search of something or someone.
Standing at the side of the trail leading to Oldale Town, Sylvester scanned the high grass around him for wild pokemon. Mostly, he threw rocks around trying to stir some flying type pokemon out from the dense brush. It didn't work very well, so for the most part he was walking around, looking for more rocks to throw out in the field. Why?
Like hell Sylvester was going out in the dense brush, with plenty of thorny bushes to jag and stick him with. He'd stay along the trail, where other trainers and the like could still see him.
Forgive my lack of a postscript! Been a while since I've been on anything but ipb and mybb, lol.
It had only been that morning that the young man had received his first pokemon, a shinx, from the professor. He carried this kitten pokemon in his arms now, her legs hanging loosely from where his arms wrapped around the pokemon's chest. He hadn't gotten far from the lab or the little town it was in, nor had he made it to the next town yet. And if he didn't make it soon, he would have to stop for a snack break and sit down for a few minutes.
A couple of paces later, he noticed something up ahead. Someone was throwing rocks into the grass. It didn't look like they were aiming for anything, like a pokemon or person, but Ozzy couldn't help but be curious. The shinx wiggled around then, eager to be put down and Ozzy did just that, letting the shinx investigate the other while he followed a few paces behind her. He still needed to name this thing, but nothing had come to mind yet.
The cat then made a sound that sounded more like a grumbly play noise than a courteous hello and you could see the rebellion in her eyes as she honed in on the man's feet. This shinx seemed to like doing that, as that had been the first thing she had done to him when they met. The shinx kitten was fast though, and Ozzy was pure klutz, so he could only hope he caught her before she pounced. "N-no!"

Hearing someone calling out from behind him, Sylvester turned around just in time to see a little Shinx pouncing at his feet. Almost as if trying to play, it seemed a little aggressive, causing Sylvester to take a step back so that it would not have much of a chance to gnaw on or otherwise tarnish his shoes. "Come on, don't do that!" He vocalized this loud enough to give off a distinct sense of irritation, hoping the pokemon would back off. If not for good, then at least momentarily to give time for this other guy to catch up and stop the Shinx.
"Are they yours?" It was relatively obvious, though Sylvester would make sure regardless. For all he knew, the person was trying to give him a heads-up in what way he could. If the Shinx was feral, he would just have to send out his own pokemon to do battle with the scandalous feline. If not, then at least he got to meet another...trainer?
Perhaps they could even be of help to the other...
The shinx was getting ready to pounce when the man stepped back and away from her with clear irritation in his voice. She didn't care though and was eager to attack those moving feet. Ozzy was close behind with her pokeball in hand. Apparently, walking around with this pokemon outside its ball was going to be a bit of a challenge. "Return!" he called out to the little shinx, pointing the pokeball at her.
"Well how rude," the shinx thought as she disappeared into the pokeball, a look of disappointment and anger flashing across her face before she finally went inside the pokeball. He put it away and then sighed a bit before looking towards the man she was trying to attack. "Um yeah... Sorry about that! We're both new to this," he chuckled nervously, though it wasn't that good of an excuse. He should've just kept the wiley shinx in her pokeball from the beginning. "But ummm..., hi, I'm Ozzy," the tone of his voice was nervous; nervous because this man could be angry for not controlling his pokemon well. Ozzy would have to agree, but her only been at this for like what, two hours?

"It's fine. Don't worry about it." Instead of growing impatient or frustrated with Ozzy, Sylvester decided to reach out his hand for a formal shake. "Hey there. I'm Sylvester." It was only fair he gave his own name after Ozzy did the same. Formalities were his thing.
"So if you're new to this, does that make you a trainer? Or perhaps something else?" It was always nice to meet aspiring pokemon coordinators, trainers and the like. Though his recent encounter with a ranger at the summer gala made him second-guess their organization, most everyone else was free of this critical ridicule of his.
"Nice to meet you," he smiled at the man and grasped his outstretched hand to shake. His grandfather taught him manners, but few people shook hands anymore unless business was involved. It wasn't long before he was inquired about his class, though he didn't mind answering. "Just a trainer," he shrugged but smiled still; he was proud to be a trainer and he was glad he made it to this point so far. He had yet to encounter any wild pokemon, but that was okay. He hadn't been out long.
"Oh yeah, Professor Birch gave her to me this morning. I haven't even named her yet," It was nice talking to people again. Hed been so busy with his grandfather to have much of a social life, so when he did it went to the extremes. It would be nice to have friends again, and maybe this man would be the first. "Why were you throwing rocks?" He questioned, though not accusingly. He was just curious, but wary in case this was some magma or aqua grunt looking for some trouble.

Chuckling at the mention of Ozzy's curiosity towards why Sylester had been throwing rocks, he was glad to oblige him the genuine answer. "Well, I was trying to startle any wild pokemon that might be hiding in that dense brush. Lots of thorns in there, so I didn't want to walk through it myself. Doesn't seem like anything is in there, though.' Of course, though, as he said it a wild pidgey flew out from the thick vegetation.
"...Just my luck." Pidgey was one of Sylvester's favorite flying type pokemon, mostly because it was native to Kanto region. That was his favorite region of pokemon, though because of his parents and their business he had to stay within the limits of Hoenn region. It wasn't all that bad, though. Hoenn still managed to house all the pokemon known to the world, though some were extremely difficult, if not nigh impossible to acquire for oneself.
"Well, Shinx is a pretty nice pokemon to start out with. I've met two other trainers who have one, one of them being just like you, having gotten their's from Professor Birch as their first pokemon." Sylvester almost envied Ozzy because of his electric type, seeing as he had yet to capture anything that was great for battling that kind of pokemon.
"What other kinds of pokemon are you interested in capturing, if any?" Just a question to gauge his interests as a fellow pokemon trainer.
"Oh, okay," he chuckled when the pidgey flew from the brush, but being closer to it now he could see the thickness of it. "I haven't even seen a wild pokemon yet today," He chuckled again, then looked back to Sylvester when the pidgey flew out of sight. He spoke then of others when shinx and he was interested a bit. He wanted to meet these people and see theirs and of they were just as unpredictable as his was. Besides, a battle between two shinx seemed like it would be pretty fun!
"That's really cool! Who was your starter?" he questioned, wondering if the man had also recently started or if he had been at this for a while. He was interested in the pokemon he had chosen or been given and any others he had caught since if there were any. He was asked about any other pokemon he wanted, and he couldn't even begin to start a list. "Not any in particular. I just want a good team of friends that will get us through the Hoenn League," he only knew of a good chunk of pokemon because of his grandfather, so there were still a lot out there that he hadnt even heard of. He was hopeful to meet, catch, and befriend a lot of pokemon like his grandfather had, but his first challenge was this shinx.

"Ah, that's good." Though he didn't seem to have any specific goals, Ozzy was still fixated on becoming a strong and capable trainer. "I've found lots of cool and powerful pokemon along my way, so I am sure you will find similar luck during your ventures." Moving on to the question at hand, Sylvester plucked a pokeball from within the confines of his trench coat. Holding it before him, Sylvester simply allowed Ozzy to marvel at the pokeball without releasing it's contents.
"I started off with an Eevee, his name is Marley. Me and him have come a long way..." Sylvester began to reminisce for a moment, noticing this and snapping out of his deep though. "He evolved into a Sylveon, the fairy type evolution of Eevee. It didn't take long, actually, but it did cost a pretty penny..." Ten pokedollars for a charm bell and three rare candies later, the white and brown ball of fur transformed into a stunning fairy type, adorning a fabulous coat of short pink and white fur.
"Personally? I'd suggest finding a fighting type pokemon for the first gym. That, or just make sure you capture and train a few before issuing your challenge." His advice was sincere, as even Sylvester didn't plan on challenging Norman until his pokemon were truly ready to handle the task.
Petalburg comes before rustboro?? O: also my guinea pigs name is Marley <3
He didn't have any doubts. He knew he would find a pokemon eventually, he just hoped it would be sooner rather than later. He didn't have any plans on arriving in Petalburg today, so he had the rest of the day and tomorrow to add some new members to his team. There was bound to be plenty of pokemon around - maybe his shinx could track them down?
"Awesome! Eevee's pretty rare right?" Ozzy looked at the pokeball in awe. Hed seen an eevee before, but never a sylveon. Hed heard of them and seen pictures, but never in the flesh. He was definitely interested, but he continued on with talking about the first gym, not that he minded. A fighting type was suggested to him, but he had heard that the leader used fighting also. Whether or not it was true, he knew that psychic had a better advantage. He wondered if he could find both - a psychic and a fighting type and see which worked better against the leader. "thanks! I'll keep that in mind," he smiled at the man. He definitely wanted a full team, and then maybe a companion, but he didn't want to think too far ahead. He wanted to just go and see what he was given to work with.

OOC: We're AU (alternate universe), meaning we don't follow the games 100%. Instead, we can challenge ANY of the 8 games first before the others so long as we have completed the linear route system to be there. The gyms scale, so if you wanted, you could challenge Flannery's gym first, and the highest level pokemon would more than likely be level 16, as that is what Norman has shown as his strongest pokemon in the first few completed gym threads. Also, give lots of love to Marley for me! <3
"Yeah, Eevee is a rare pokemon. I've only seen one other besides my own so far in my travels. There are probably more than that, though. I just don't know about'em." Pocketing the dual-colored orb once more, Sylvester gestured towards the direction of the route leading further away from Littleroot Town.
"Come on, let's start headed this way. The next stop from here is Oldale Town. Not a whole lot to do, just a place to rest if it's a little late and you don't want to go walking out in the dark." Taking a few steps in that direction, Sylvester continued on with his side of the conversation. "Petalburg City is where you want to be. To get there, you take Route 103 out of Oldale Town, and you'll end up at the entrance to Petalburg City. That's where the first gym leader is, Norman." He turned his head away to look at the trail ahead.
"I haven't challenged him yet, but when I do I am sure I will win. Marley isn't the only rare pokemon I have on my team." Deciding to go quiet from thee, Sylvester would only speak more of his pokemon if Ozzy prompted him to. Sylvester did not aspire to appear to be bragging to Ozzy.
"I saw one before, when I was younger. I saw a sylveon in a contest once, I think," it was pretty interesting that he started with such a moldable pokemon. Ozzy thought about how he couldn't wait for shinx to evolve into a luxio and then into a luxray. She would be pretty strong to say the least, bit that wasn't all that it was about. They had to be friends first, and so far it seemed like it would be a bit difficult to train her since he couldn't even catch her.
Ozzy nodded when he suggested that they head towards Oldale town and began to walk with him. He wanted to stay on the route for the most part, so he figured hed just let him so him the way and then run off to train. Had catch up with the man later if he wanted, but Ozzy really wanted to get to know this shinx and make her stronger and ready for that first gym battle in Petalburg.he continued on about route 103 and how it led to Petalburg, so he made a mental note in case he didn't meet up with him again.
"It's good to be confident, but it only makes the loss harder if it doesn't go as planned," he shrugged, not that he really knew of course. His grandfather always told him that it wasn't about winning, it was about having fun. Winning was great of course, but if it took two or three times to get there, whose to complain? He didn't mean to sound rude to the man, so he hoped he didn't take it that way. He changed the subject a bit to a better, neutral question. "What other pokemon do you have?"
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jul 24, 2015 19:57:56 GMT
"Of course. That is why I have been putting me and my pokemon through a lot." Sylvester knew what Ozzy said was true, and he had done well to have taken such a sentiment to heart already when it came to training with his pokemon. He would never challenge a gym until he felt as though he was able to defeat them, no questions asked. Right about now? He was beginning to have that impression. Though, these thoughts were cut short by the inquiry Ozzy had made about Sylvester's other pokemon.
"Well, besides my Sylveon, I just caught a Honedge, known as Kseniya. Cool dual type of ghost and steel. Then there is my Swablu, his name is Gunther. Traded for him. Same goes for my Slowpoke. Didn't name him, but I like his name. He's called Brolaf." Of course, Sylvester was saving the best for last.
"The only other pokemon besides all of them is Flint, my Combusken. He evolved from a Torchic some time ago, after I fed him some rare candies. He's the other rare pokemon of mine that I mentioned." It was quite a team, and his tone suggested that he was obviously confident about them. "I got one more pokeball left to fill. I'm real curious of what I am going to put in it."
He stopped the conversation there, noticing the sing saying "Welcome to Oldale Town" a short distance from them. "Well, looks like we're here. These routes sure do go fast when you got company to talk to." Sylvester flashed a gentle smile. "So, you got a pokenav? If you do, give me your digits. That way we can keep in touch." Pulling out his own, Sylvester finally stopped walking, waiting for Ozzy to share his contact information.
"That's good. Do you know what levels Norman's pokemon are or is it a secret until you get there?" He didnt know what levels the pokemon would be, but he didnt know if anyone else would. It made sense for it to be a secret, but either way, it didn't matter much. At least you could prepare more efficiently if you knew the levels.
He listened to the pokemon he listed off and nodded with each one. He had a pretty awesome team so far and he wondered how long had keep using these pokemon or of he would switch them out when another better type came along. Ozzy didn't know what he would do, but he supposed he would have to wait and see what pokemon he would find and catch. He wanted to catch a lot, so he was bound to be switching his team around a lot. "Sounds like you have some pretty awesome pokemon, there's no doubt that you'll win that gym battle," with the gym being a fighting normal type, the cumbusken would he fairly useful if it knew any fighting moves yet. His shinx may or may not be successful, it all really depended on her speed. He would need to find more pokemon to take on Norman successfully.
The walk hadnt taken very long at all and he was surprised to already be at the end of the route. "Oh yeah, here," He pulled out his pokenav and listed off the numbers for him. He kept his out to get Sylvesters when he was finished putting his number in.

Once finished adding Ozzy as a contact, he eagerly revealed his own information to the fellow trainer without delay. He seemed like a good and upright person, something that Sylvester had not seen a lot of elsewhere in Hoenn region. "Let me know when you catch some more pokemon. I'm always interested to hear about that sort of thing." Basically a heads-up that Ozzy should feel free to contact him from time to time. Sylvester didn't want him to be afraid to text him in case it might prove some sort of a nuisance.
"As for now, I think I should go on ahead. If you'd like, you can come along, but getting some rest first might be of some benefit." Though truthfully, the day was still fairly young. If Ozzy did choose to follow Sylvester, they would likely make it to Petalburg City before nightfall. Especially with the pace Sylvester began with, making a subtle wave that could be interpreted as either "farewell" or "let's get going". Whatever Ozzy decided, he was sure it would be what was best.
OOC: If you want to keep going I will make a different thread in the next route following this one. Basically means more pokedollars, and more progression for you in the linear route system. Though since we can skip Oldale, we might want to do that, or make a quick 4 posts for 4pd. Just let me know in Cbox, PM, or OOCly in your exit post.
