zubat♂ - level 004 - inner focus moveset: leech life
Zubat began to flutter about excitedly after his leech life attack hit, he had to celebrate of course! The battle was soon to be in his favor obviously! ...Right? Wrong, he was too busy celebrating to dodge the first confusion attack and it hit him head on! Sending him flying back into a tree, only for Zubat to then quickly start flying away again, up and out of the way of the second Confusion. So they wanted to play hardball eh! After flying up Zubat would swoop on down again, going for two leech life attacks this time.
zubat used leech life x2! hurt a good amount dodged confusion (2/2)

It looked as if the battle was about to turn devisively in their favour when Bartleby's first attack sent the Zubat reeling into a tree. However, the bat-like Pokemon was quick to recover, nimbly rolling out of the way of the second Confusion wave. But the attack had done its job. The Zubat didn't look quite so unruffled now. A second hit might ruin its day; a third might even knock it out, as long as it didn't get a chance to leech away too much of Bartleby's health.
He's fast, but he can't dodge everything, the Ralts reflected, watching his opponent warily.
"We've got him on the ropes! Same again!" Maya cheered, but the thought she sent in Bartleby's direction was a lot less light-hearted. His attacks all follow the same pattern. He circles in the air, swoops down for two consecutive attacks, then retreats again. Focus on dodging his first attack, then hit him again when he comes in for the second.
She could feel Bartleby's mental smile, like a warm kiss to the heart. We're both learning, aren't we?
Maya smiled, too. "Get him good!"
Once again, Bartleby obeyed. When the Zubat swooped in for its initial attack, the Ralts managed to duck out of the way of its gnashing fangs. Bracing himself for the sting, he left himself wide open for the second Leech Life, trusting that the single Confusion he was able to fire off would do more damage than the vampiric attack could heal.

That last confusion was all it had taken. It barely was able to do enough damage to finish off Zubat after Zubat recovered via Leech Life. But hey barely able is still good too. Zubat would simply fall to the ground after the last confusion attack, completely fainted.
zubat fainted! zubat is available for capture! ralts gained two levels!
After Zubat fainted there would be a faint rustling sound coming from the bushes behind Maya. It wouldn't be hard to guess that it was surely a third pokemon that was set to show itself. Maybe...The rustling would stop almost as soon as it had started, the pokemon in the bush slightly afraid to come out now that the Zubat had fainted. The hidden pokemon didn't like fighting too much, the idea of it scared him actually. Already knowing that he had given himself away with the rustling the hidden pokemon would stick it's head out of the bush. Revealing that it was actually a Shuckle! After that it wouldn't do much else at all, just stare at Maya'a back to see if she had noticed him.

Their gambit paid off beautifully. After munching briefly on Bartleby's shoulder, the Zubat took the Confusion wave head on. It was a clean knock out. The bat-like Pokemon tumbled, unconscious, to the ground, swiftly followed by Maya's Pokeball.
"We did it!" Maya swept up Bartleby into a hug, a Pokeball clutched triumphantly in each hand. "You were amazing out there, Bartleby! And we made two new friends today!"
I think that might be a slightly premature statement, Bartleby replied, unable to keep a hint of pride from his tone. But you're right, we didn't do too bad.
Their celebration was somewhat curtailed by a rustling sound from the direction of some nearby bushes. Maya and Bartleby turned in unison, and found themselves staring into a startled-looking little face. Maya, who was beginning to detect a pattern here, fished out her Pokedex once more.
Shuckle, the Mold Pokemon. Shuckle quietly hides itself under rocks, keeping its body concealed inside its hard shell while eating berries it has stored away. The berries mix with its body fluids to become a juice.
"Aww, it's adorable!" Maya glanced at Bartleby. What do you think?
It's alright. I don't think he intends to pursue a fight. He doesn't seem to want trouble.
Then we won't give him any. Maya offered the Shuckle a warm smile. "Hiya, little guy. Don't worry, we're not here to pick a fight with you. We're just on our way to the next town. Have a nice day!" She waved cheerfully at the head in the bushes, clipped the newly filled Pokeballs to her belt, and turned away to go, helping Bartleby climb back into her backpack.
Wait what...she just said something and kept on going. The trainer wasn't going to hurt him? The very idea of it confused and bewildered the Shuckle, and caused him to completely exit the bush. Only for him to then start trotting on down the road, curiously following the Trainer.

Unfortunately, the Shuckle's insistent waddle wasn't quick enough to keep up with Maya and Bartleby. Maya, who was too absorbed in the prospect of getting to know her two new Pokemon better once they reached Oldale, remained oblivious to the fact they were being followed. Only Bartleby, whose sensibilities hadn't been blunted in the slightest by his recent ordeals, was aware that the Shuckle was following them. This he chose not to share with his trainer. Two additions to the team were enough, he thought, for one day. It was hard enough for him to come to terms with the fact that he would now have to share Maya with two total strangers.
He sent a thought pulsing in the direction of the Shuckle. Don't follow us. You have a good enough life here. Eat as much as you want, sleep as much as you want. Maybe another nice human will come along soon and be friends with you. Bartleby sighed inwardly. But this one's mine.
"You say something, Barty?" Maya asked.
Not a thing. Bartleby nestled a little more comfortably in Maya's backpack, and let his eyelids droop. The heat didn't feel so bad now.
