HEY YOUNG BLOOD DOESN'T IT FEEL LIKE TIME IS RUNNING OUT?
Bal walked beside his Cyndaquil with steady steps, taking pride in the small little chirps of his name as Engel walked almost confidently. The fire pokemon glancing up at him once in a while as though in need of reassurance, his stubby little legs dashing forward every once in a while. Balthier would chuckle then and drop a little treat for the Cyndaquil, getting a grateful cry in return. He’d admit the little Cyndaquil might get a little spoiled with him if he continued the way he was going with giving him little treats every time Engel did something he approved of. Which was just about everything if he was being honest with himself.
Quil, quil, quiiiil a small spurt of fire flaring on Engel’s back as he raced around Balthier, the wariness from earlier upon realizing they were leaving Littleroot almost completely gone. It was good that the little guy was getting at least a little confidence and more willingness to venture away…like now. Something had obviously caught the little guy’s interest as he seemed to sniff around one of the bushes almost shyly.
The brunette gave him a curious look as he passed the pokemon by, shaking his head in amusement as he called back towards Engel. “Come on. Leave whatever it is alone, Engel.” He chuckled lightly as the cyndaquil called back to him, hesitating by the bush before scurrying after his trainer with happy little noises. Balthier was definitely relieved that if Engel was one thing, he was obedient and only too happy to follow behind him or rather beside him. It was sweet and he was glad for it.

ducklett glides through the air. he's so bored! perhaps he can provoke someone. ducklett spots a trainer. his interest peaks. he honks obnoxiously, raining a shower of water at the duo.

HEY YOUNG BLOOD DOESN'T IT FEEL LIKE TIME IS RUNNING OUT?
It was a beautiful day out to travel and Flynn had gone off somewhere to do something so it was only natural that he’d taken Engel out for a stroll. Balthier probably should have known something was going to happen just by traveling by the route where wild pokemon were known to get a little sassy. It was bound to happen at some point on their stroll, especially with Engel being so much more open and less shy now that they were out of the town. He figured it’d help the little Cyndaquil and it seemed to be doing just that…at least he thought it was.
However, suddenly there was a loud honk as his cyndaquil raced just slightly ahead of him to look at a little bit more tall grass. Balthier looked up and Engel paused just in time to get faces full of water, Bal getting the brunt of it seeing as he was higher up than his fire pokemon which in a way was a relief. Balthier let out a small indignant noise before wiping himself off, Engel letting out a plaintive cry at the pokemon. Balthier looked up and huffed at the creature, shaking his head with a slight scowl as he called out. “You know it’s rather rude to spray people with water!” He bent down and tried to dry the Cyndaquil up as best he could, taking the bottom part of his shirt and rubbing Engel’s face. Thankfully the fire-type wasn’t too bad off other than being just a little wet.

wait, so they weren't attacking back? ducklett flapped down, carefully observing the way he patted the cyndaquil. now he kinda felt bad. he skips closer, honking apologetically. forgive, please.

Engel was a fire-type, they didn’t do so well with water-types so Balthier wasn’t about to test his luck and newly trusting partner against one. Ducklett could very well hurt Engel and he didn’t want that to happen so soon in their partnership. As he wiped Engel’s face the Cyndaquil leaned into his hand, making happy little noises at being taken care of. However, they both jumped slightly at another honk but closer this time and Bal looked over to see the ducklett watching them. It took a minute for him to take a hint before a slight rueful smile pulled at his lips, “Nah, its fine little guy. Not like any real harm was done…not really anyway.” Cyndaquil looked from around his knee at the other pokemon, head tilted slightly in question and curiosity at the pokemon but still wary.
Bal gave the Ducklett and considering look before reaching in his pack for something pokemon friendly to eat. Fishing something out of his bag he held it out towards the Ducklett, “Here a peace offering between us since you’re so apologetic.” A full grin curled his lips before he took a curious look at the pokemon. “Were you really that bored that you were picking a fight?” He chuckled at the spunky pokemon shaking his head a bit as he did so. “What would have happened if I was one of the stronger trainers or someone less forgiving?” Pokemon were really something else.

ducklett gladly takes the food from bal's hand. hey, this guy was pretty friendly! maybe picking a fight wasn't the best choice. ducklett honks again, but it sounds like a question. maybe he could get stronger with this guy. could he stick around?
ducklett would like to come with baltheir ! y/n? another pokemon?

Balthier watched as the Ducklett took the food from his hand and ate it, a feeling of satisfaction resting on him as he watched. You didn’t always have to fight pokemon, didn’t have to faint them in order to befriend them or anything. If you treated them right and with respect things always ends up fine in the end. As though to prove just that the Ducklett let out another honk at him but this one seemed different but for all his worth Bal couldn’t put his finger on what he wanted to get across as he looked at the dual type pokemon. After a moment he opened his mouth to let the Ducklett know that he just didn’t understand but Engel seemed to understand and wanted to help out. He felt a slight bump against his side and looked down at the Cyndaquil next to him questioningly, the creature letting out a little cry as he tapped the pokeball by his side.
The brunette blinked before he realized what he was trying to get at and grinned. Grabbing one of the balls and showing it to the Ducklett he asked excitedly, “You wan’na come along?” A rush of excited adrenaline ran through him as he grinned before he chuckled. Pressing the button on the pokeball he watched as it opened up and the red light emerged to collect the pokemon. He hoped he’d got what they were trying to say right and this was what the Ducklett actually wanted. If it did…well he just got a new companion on his journey!
weepinbell bounces around. he's so lonely. maybe a little hg would help. he spots a trainer from afar and guns for it. weepinbell lunges for him, attempting to wrap bal in a hug!
ducklett is successfully captured! weepinbell uses wrap!

Apparently that was exactly what the Ducklett wanted as the light faded and signaled he’d been caught. A wide grin curling Balthier’s lips and making him chuckle as he picked up the ball and looked at Engel, the cyndaquil letting out a soft cry. “Well, Engel…it seems we just made ourselves a new friend today.” The cyndaquil let out a louder cry of its name, snuggling against his knee happily, and content that his trainer was happy and a fellow pokemon had joined their troop. The pokemon was his opposite but maybe they could come to be really good friends, Balthier made friends sound really fun and like it was a good thing…because he called him is friend so that was good.
Engel looked up as Bal lightly scratched his head before slowly straightening out and rising to his feet. His knees protesting just the slightest after having been crouched for such a long time and he winces as his clothes stuck to him. They were still soaked from that water sport Ducklett…no Thanos, from the watersport Thanos had let loose on them. He was just about to brush his jeans off when something came careening into his back and he was tossed off balance. He let out a sharp yelp before falling forward face first when he noticed something was wrapped around him.
Unthinkingly, he jerked in its grip before calming enough to realize it was just…a weepinbell?? His eyes looked up to check if Engel was okay only to notice…the cyndaquil was getting ready to go into a full fledged tackle straight for the pokemon wrapped around in body. “Oh shit.”
Was all he could think of for a moment before he commanded, “Engel stop!” It was a weak command but the cyndaquil attempted to follow it, skidding before tumbling to a stop. Balthier’s low grumbles could be heard as he wriggled in the weepinbells grip, wincing slightly. “Dude seriously you gotta let go or I’ll have him tackle you. This is not cool in the least.” There was just a touch of steel in his voice, his clothes were wet, where the weepinbell was wrapped around ached and he’d hit himself on his way down. Mood was officially ruined thank you very much Weepinbell.
the hugs feels nice, but then the trainer wriggles around in the weepinbell's grip. what's wrong? he doesn't like it? well...he can't get out! he has to stay. weepinbell huffs, his body going through a growth. he grows larger and larger. no one can stop his hugs now!

Engel watched as that weird pokemon just seemed to grow bigger and wrap his trainer more securely, anger bubbling in the young cyndaquil’s body as it shifted unhappily. He let out a few cries to his trainer and pokemon, wanting to do something but still remembering Balthier’s order to stop when he’d went to go defend him. However, wasn’t that what he was here for?? Wasn’t he here to protect his trainer and make sure Bal was okay from pokemon like this hurting him? This one may have meant well but Balthier had to understand that Engel just wanted to help right??
The brunette let out a low grunt, at the Weepinbell’s growth and wrap. It was heavy and his head was throbbing from both the fall and just a heavy pokemon on top of him. With a low growl he reluctantly gave in and huffed, deciding he had no choice but to have Engel attack in order to get this pokemon off. “Engel, use tackle!” At finally having an order that he could follow and given permission to protect his human the cyndaquil let out a delighted cry.
With no hesitation at all, Cyndaquil was charging at the Weepinbell to Tackle it before bounding away. Engel watched the Weepinbell for a moment before charging in again, weaving in a zigzagging pattern before he used Tackle once more on the pokemon in retaliation for its actions. A sharp cry in challenge coming from the Cyndaquil’s mouth as it stood its ground, watching the Weepinbell.
weepinbell cries out in pain as the tackles hit. he reluctantly lets go of bal and backs away. he doesn't even try to attack. weepinbell draws his gaze to the ground. for shame. maybe he should just leave.

At the Weepinbell’s cry of pain, some of the agitation and frustration Balthier had with the pokemon waned. He was released upon Cyndaquil’s tackles and he huffed, sucking in a deep breath in relief before sitting up. Both him and Engel watching the pokemon but instead of attacking it seemed to look at the ground in shame and Bal shook his head with a slight scowl. He’d forgotten how different wild pokemon were and he ran a hand through his messy locks and winced at his state of dress. Dirt and grass stains littered the front of his cloths but at least he could breathe easier and his head didn’t throb so fiercely. Engel let out a little inquiring sound, looking between the Weepinbell to Baltheir before deciding to check on his trainer now that the wild pokemon seemed to have calmed down.
Satisfied that he could protect and help his trainer in some way Engel nuzzled Balthier gently, letting out a soft questioning cry of its name. Bal smiled softly and scratched his head, earning a happy noise from the Cyndaquil. “I’m fine now.” He stood up completely and looked at the weepinbell, crossing his arms in clear displeasure as he looked at the pokemon. “Now I don’t know if you meant well or not but that’s not the way you go about doing things.” He gave the pokemon a considering look before he took out a pokeball and tossed it up in the air a couple of times thoughtfully. “We could go about this a few ways. We can continue this and I capture you…or You keep it moving. Personally I wouldn’t mind having you in my group…So long as you behave.”

oh, this human is nice! maybe he should scale back on his hugs...weepinwell agrees to go with bal. maybe if he's on good on his behavior he'd get a hug after a while!
shroomish is looking for a fight! she sees the cyndaquil? did she even have a chance? it doesn't matter! shroomish believes that she can overcome adversity. she wiggles, doing a dance before tackling forward.

HEY YOUNG BLOOD DOESN'T IT FEEL LIKE TIME IS RUNNING OUT?
The brunette rolls his eyes fondly at the pokemon, huffing softly at the fact this could have all been avoided if it’d approached them like this originally instead of wrapping itself around him. Chuckling softly, Balthier let the pokeball do its work and watched as the light faded once it engulfed the weepinbell. He nodded his head, satisfied with the caught pokemon before setting it beside the rest of his pokeballs next to where his newly caught Ducklett also rested in his pokeball. Two pokemon in one day and he hadn’t even originally set out to capture pokemon in the first place, he guessed he couldn’t really complain with those kind of odds.
He was about to continue on with a light world of congratulations to Engel when the Cyndaquil let out a shocked cry of pain. Balthier whirled around to see that a…a shroomish had tackled his pokemon! The breeder blinked in surprise for a moment before he decided he’d have no choice but to battle the wild shroomish. Kneeling beside his cyndaquil he murmured worriedly, “How you feeling buddy?” Engel shook off the pain and widened his stance stubbornly as he faced off with the shroomish, letting out an encouraging cry to Balthier. Grinning at his companion Bal nodded his head in understanding, “Alright then, Engel. Let’s give that shroomish a taste of their own medicine. Tackle Engel and don’t let up!”
The cyndaquil let out an affirmative before charging at the pokemon, going in for a Tackle and backing off for a moment to angrily Leer at the pokemon. After another harsh cry Cyndaquil charged in again to Tackle not interested in giving the shroomish room to recover much.
