Hiro had wormed his way into Andrea's arms once more, settling his plump body onto her lap in a comfortable fashion. Andrea reacted very little to this, and merely propped up her book on the creature's humped back. Giving his head a little scratch, she went back to focusing on her piece of literature. It listed the care requirements of Pokemon, elaborating on the general upkeep of a diverse team. And her team was building up in number, especially after she had received a Snivy egg in exchange for her recently caught Shroomish.
"Snivy," she breathed.
That was another rare breed of Pokemon that would fill a permanent slot in her team. Froakie, Bagon, Numel, and now a Snivy. She had made the choice of selecting these due to their potential and outright diversity. She was just in need two more to add to her team. Permanent additions that would suit her needs.
"What do ya think, Hiro?"
The Numel merely yawned before raising his head to blink at her with a lax expression. Andrea snorted in response.
"Jus' go back to sleep, boy."
They were resting underneath a tree that resided within a small park. The weather was good, and the temperatures warranted her tank top and shorts.
"Guess we gotta look fer the other two soon, boy," she said.

Sky stared hard at the Pokeball in hand. He'd just traded his... Porygon? He didn't really know what type of Pokemon it was, but he knew that he wouldn't have been comfortable with it. Thankfully, when someone else had spotted the Pokemon, they'd jumped at the chance to trade it. He had gotten a beautiful Purrloin in return and he couldn't be happier. Though, not having met the little cat yet, he was a little wary of releasing her.
"Well... its now or never, right?" he hummed quietly to himself, crouching down and pressing the button on the capsule. The Purrloin released into the grass in front of him, letting out a mew of greeting. Her tail waved from side to side and she instantly padded forward a bit, leaning up toward Sky's face to sniff at him.
Carefully, he reached his hand out to let her sniff him before she pressed into his palm. Thank goodness she was friendly... for now. In a fluid motion, he leaned forward, pulling her up into his arms. She crawled up onto his shoulders, seeming happy to be perched there.
Sky chuckled lightly, petting under her chin gently, "Can I call you Efia?" The little nod was all he needed to see. "Oh, good. I was afraid you wouldn't like the name," he mused, looking up and around. He slipped the Pokeball into his bag, enjoying the Purrloin's company already. He started to wander the small town a bit, observing the area. When he spotted another trainer with what looked like a... was that a Numel? Hadn't he seen one of those in a book somewhere? Anyway, when he spotted the trainer, he slipped up toward her quietly, "Uh... Excuse me... What's your Pokemon's name?"

Andrea's eyes snapped toward the approaching male, his question leaving her a touch bewildered before she responded in a friendly tone.
"Numel," she replied, simply. "His name's Hiro. But ya can call him either, 'kay?"
The fire-type responded to both title and name, raising his head to peer curiously at the tall male and his furry companion. The plump creature bleated out a quiet greeting to the normal-type before his eyes fell shut and his breathing slowed. Andrea noted that the Pokemon had mastered the art of falling asleep in such a quick fashion. He had done it more than once in her presence, after all.
"That a - ah - .... Purrloin, I think?"
She tugged her Pokedex free from her pocket and scanned the creature just to confirm her guess.
"Purrloin, the Devious Pokémon. Purrloin fools people into letting their guard down so it can steal their possessions. When angered, it uses its claws to fight back."
"Huh, knew I was right," she said, smirking.
She then proceeded to scan the Pokemon for its basic info. When its available move-set flashed on screen Andrea cast the male a thin scowl.
"Wanna battle, buddy? Yer Pokemon could use a battle or two under its belt before ya head out."

He smiled quietly at the Numel, nodding at the name, "Hello, Hiro," he hummed in greeting. The Purrloin on his shoulders jumped down toward the ground, slinking toward the Numel with a curious gaze. Efia got really close and then jumped back a bit when Andrea spoke again, a little spooked as she slipped back to stand behind one of Sky's legs. A soft mew escaped from her as she peered toward the other Pokemon.
Sky looked down at her, noting the lack of confidence in the posture of his Pokemon. He crouched a little, running his fingers along her forehead with a soft smile while looking back up at Andrea. He pulled his own Pokedex out, holding it toward the Numel.
"Numel, the Numb Pokémon. Numel is so complacent that it does not even notice when it is stuck. This Pokémon's body is filled with hot magma, which, when cooled in water, rather slows its movement. Numel is also unable to bear hunger."
He grinned suddenly. He rather liked that Numel. It seemed really at peace.
Sky perked at the question of a battle, looking back at Efia with a nervous expression. "What do you think, Efia?" he asked quietly, reading the Pokedex for the move set of the Numel. It made him just a little uneasy about a battle, but he knew Efia could probably pull it off. The Purrloin slipped back out in front of Sky, sitting down and licking at one of her paws to mask her unease.
"I think... I think that means yes. Oh! My name's Sky," he said with a slight chuckle.

"Sweet!" Andrea chirped. "C'mon, Hiro, it's time to get up. We're gonna battle. And the name's Andrea."
The Numel blinked open his eyes as his trainer proceeded to nudge him awake. Sluggishly removing himself from the human female's lap, he turned to observe as she stood and brushed herself off. After the coordinator had tucked her book away within the confines of her backpack, she nodded at the pair.
"One on one, then. Hiro'll be my Pokemon for this battle. Good luck," she said, winking. "Yer gonna need it. I don't go easy on newbies, pal. C'mon, boy!"
Hiro visibly trembled, shaking his head free of drowsiness before following the woman. Andrea took advantage of the open space of the park, settling herself an adequate distance away from the male and his Pokemon.
"Ready to rock, boy?"
"Nummmeel," he replied.
The Pokemon's expression morphed into one of focus as sweltering steam escaped from the confines of its humped back.

Wait. He got to go first? He didn't even know where to start. He felt himself freezing up a bit with nervousness, looking down at his Pokemon with a sheepish expression. He'd read about trainer battles, but actually fighting in one was a different story. Swallowing hard, he tugged at a lock of his hair, watching the Numel as he got up, blowing off his sleepiness with the steam that came out of his hump.
Efia jumped a bit, her tail standing straight up and her fur fluffed, though she didn't back down. Her tail twitched slightly and she lowered her head a bit, steeling and focusing herself.
Finally catching his bearings, Sky motioned toward the Numel. "S-start with growl, Efia!" his voice had a bit of a nervous squeak to it, though he couldn't help it. He was so scared he was just going to mess this all up. Yet, what kind of trainer would he be if he didn't at least try, right?
The Purrloin let out a high pitched growl at the other Pokemon, hoping that the attack would hit, her claws sinking into the ground underfoot. She was preparing herself.
"Scratch," Sky said quietly, his brow furrowed. He was watching the other Pokemon, unsure of if Efia had heard him. She didn't respond, so he kinda took a bit of a step forward, saying it a little louder, "Scratch, Efia!" The Purrloin shot forward suddenly, claws out as she launched herself toward the Numel in front of her. Sky gave a sheepish look toward Andrea.

Hiro grimaced in response to the Growl, ears twitching as the vibration caused the entirety of his plump form to tremble. A dull throbbing resulted, and the fire-type shook his head with a low grumble
"Stay where yer at, boy!" Andrea snapped.
The fire-type remained idle as the boy stuttered out his next command. Once the dark-type began its charge, the girl grinned smugly.
"Give it a Growl!"
The Pokemon responded by opening his maw wide and releasing a bleating noise - greeting the oncoming creature with the pitched shout that rung true and clear. Just as his mouth fell shut the claws pierced at the flesh of his face, resulting in angry red lines. His usual nature as a friendly fellow was temporarily shattered at that very moment. Without having to be told, Numel took advantage of the feline's close proximity.
"Numel!"
He belched out a plethora of hot molten bits, the attack pouring from his mouth and toward his female opponent.

The growl from the Numel made Efia shudder and shake and she shook her head back and forth to try and clear her head. Okay. Maybe this Numel was more than just a little frightening to her. She didn't hold back from her attack, though. When her claws sunk into flesh, Efia had to refrain from flinching. She wasn't used to actually hitting something, let alone another Pokemon. She started to jump back quickly, only for her eyes to go wide at the sight of the burning bits and pieces heading right for her paws.
And suddenly her front paws were burning and she was screeching, staggering back onto just her back paws. She shook her paws out, hopping back a bit more. Licking at them only hurt more. That sparked quite a bit of anger in the Purrloin. Snarling at the Numel, she bared her teeth a bit, though she waited for Sky to give her her next direction.
Sky was frowning at his Pokemon, worried. Though, he started to kick himself. If he couldn't direct Efia, how could he ever expect to train the Pokemon in the Noibat egg that was settled in his bag? He needed to buck up, and quick. Clearing his throat, he nodded to Efia, who seed more than ready to attack in return.
"Efia, scratch the heck out of that Numel!" he ordered, suddenly less nervous.
With that, Efia was running, on all fours, though she ignored the sting of burned flesh. She strafed around the Numel, coming up on one side of it, hoping to catch it with the first scratch. She then attempted to bolt around it's back side, aiming a second scratch right at his behind.

Hiro was left with prominent scratches on one side and another on his rear, which did very little to help calm the already riled Pokemon. He released another low noise, but awaited his mistress's command on how to deal with the furry threat.
"Tackle!"
And so, the Numel immediately turned upon the feline. The molten rock within his hump back swished noisily, granting him the opportunity to maneuver with little difficulty involved. Hiro thrust his body forward, face twisting unpleasantly as he moved to strike the smaller creature with a Tackle.
"Give her another shot with Ember!"
The Pokemon spat out another collection of molten energy, the heated mixture spraying out as he swerved his head in Efia's general direction. While the battle continued onward, Andrea watched on with a confident grin. Despite the feline's petite and flexible build, her Pokemon possessed an advantage by possessing several moves - not two. It granted her the opportunity of withstanding the Growl and Scratch by responding with her own Pokemon's varied move set.

Sky flinched as Efia danced around the Numel's form, his brow furrowed. He was worried about his Pokemon, obviously. This was his first battle and he'd only met Efia but a few minutes before. To already be so close to falling to an opponent was a rather large blow to Sky's ego as well as his confidence. He obviously hadn't done a very good job instructing his Pokemon. That much was clear when Efia took the hit from tackle, staggering back a bit.
She mewled at the pain in her paws, falling back onto her rump. Efia hissed and started to back up more, faster this time, when the Ember headed in her direction. She didn't get away fast enough, crying out as her back paws and tail sustained burns. The Purrloin fainted a few steps away from where she was hit by the attack, landing on her stomach and chest.
Biting his lip, Sky rushed forward, "O-okay. You win. I-I'm going to take Efia for some help now." He said it all in a rush, gathering up his fainted feline into his arms and instantly turning on his heel. He hoped that someone in town or Professor Birch could help his poor Pokemon. He wasn't in much of a chatty mood, otherwise he would have stuck around. Sky just hoped that his new partner wasn't upset with him for letting her lose.
