cass doesn't know why she's here. she is a powerful person. as leader of magma it's not hard to get strong pokemon, nor is there a need to. leaders don't need to battle. cass is just fine giving out orders from behind the lines, but what's done is done. she's accepted professor birch's request.
nothing's wrong with starting new. the pokedex would provide useful to her journey. that, and people would never suspect her for being the leader. it doesn't matter regardless. even in the end, she'll rise up as the strongest. she'll raise the land for both people and pokemon - not even team aqua will stand in her way
"cassandra cain." she states her name, loud and clear to the secretary. birch isn't here at the moment, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't giving away pokedexes and starters.
while he wasn't comfortable starting over again the professor made a request he could not refuse. a free rare pokemon just to go out and collect data for him? sounded easy enough. he wouldn't have time for it anyway. he'll let one of the grunts do it for him. save him the trouble.
the professor even made him travel all the way to littleroot to get it. he sighed as he made his way to the lab. the automatic doors slid open as he stepped through. the gush of cold air was rejuvenating. he looked around and found the secretary. and someone else he recognized.
"that's a nice name," he said as he approached the girl. he kept his eyes locked onto her, not even looking once at the secretary. "rory mclain."

she faces the secretary, arms folded against her chest. she's impatient. her foot taps on the floor anxiously, wondering what she would get. there's the opening of doors, and the warm air that greets her feels nice on her skin, but when a voice pipes up from behind her everything suddenly make her go cold.
she would know it from anywhere. and when he says his name, it only verifies his identity. cassandra whips around, taking a step back. ugh. rory. leader of team aqua. she's had a past with him - and she's well moved on from it. kind of. just seeing him gives her a sour taste in her mouth.
cass's been avoiding him for a long time. what was it now - six years? when she ascended into power she thought she was behind all of that. but now he's also a leader. it just doesn't seem like she can escape the past.
she glares at him before turning away. cass refuses to unearth those feelings from so long ago.
he knew the team magma leader all too well. they've been friends since kids. a bit more than friends during their teenage years. but all of that went away. seeing her again was fun. he held no grudges. but she definitely did.
"ouch, still hung up on that thing?" he asked. he gave her a cheeky smile and finally looked at the secretary, who was busy getting the stuff for them. it did give them some time to talk, which was nice. he folded his arms and leaned against the edge of the desk, his eyes shifting back to her.
"come on, it's been like, what, six years?" he continued. he shook his head and sighed. six years since they last saw each other. that was a long time. if anything he expected her to have moved on by now. apparently not.

what happened six years ago hasn't been resolved. there's still a part of her that doesn't know if she should've done that, but she knows it was good to leave his ass. her throat closes, and she feels her stomach flip.
when cass holds grudges, she holds them forever. she doesn't care about what people think. she still hasn't forgiven him for all the shit he did. now that he's back, it's even worse. maybe she should just come back later.
"yeah, and i have good reason, asshole." she says. he leans against the desk. he's grown physically, but he still hasn't changed in regards to much else. he's still the same smooth talker she's grown to know.
he could see out of the corner of his eye the secretary feeling a bit uncomfortable. he didn't blame her. cass was being a bit childish here. "i love it when you swear," he smirked. smooth talking has always been one of his strong suites. it just comes so naturally to him. most of the time he didn't even need to think about what he was going to say.
don't talk to me. ah, he has heard those words before. it brought back memories. some good, some bad. mostly good, though. "are you sure?" he asked.
the secretary finally finished gathering up the pokeball and pokedex and handed it to the two, gesturing for them to take it quick and just get out. he grabbed it and tossed both into his pockets. they weren't important now.
"i know you've missed me. let's go for a drink?" he offered.

oh god. there he goes again. she pinches the bridge of her nose, tilting her head back and closing her eyes. maybe he'll be gone once she opens them. apparently not. he's still there with that dumbass smirk, leaning over the counter.
"i'm certain." she says. the secretary nods at them, her face contorted into a condescendingly annoyed expression. she did have a point. well, it doesn't really matter. cass doesn't care.
she takes the materials and carefully puts it in her messenger bag. it's valuable. rory doesn't seem to think so, and it's evident when he carelessly throws them into his pockets. pft. typical.
"how about no." cass says. she doesn't deny that she's missed him sometimes. how he always had some way to sweet talk his way out of trouble. she couldn't be nice to him now, or else she'd be sucked into his good charms. she starts walking towards the door. whether he chooses to follow her or not was up to him.
she's persistent, he'll give her that. but they all break eventually. when she walked towards the exit all he could do was smile. he knew her too well to know that what she said wasn't completely the truth. she might be mad at him now, but he knows. or at least he thinks he does. he'll just keep on trying until she gives up.
he let out a chuckle and walked after her. once he caught up he scratched the back of his head and smiled. "you didn't deny it," he whispered. his hands took refuge in his pockets as his eyes stayed locked onto her.
"so, where are we going?" he asked. he doesn't plan on going anywhere soon. but he had to be careful. it was still daylight. he can't really be seen walking around with the magma leader. especially not by his admins. they'd crucify him. especially elena.

yes, of course he would follow her. she wasn't wrong about that. she knew him all too well. he's so persistent and egging that sometimes it's overwhelming. he's that type of guy who doesn't accept no despite all the times they hear it. he's an ass. right now she just wants to get away and meet her starter already.
she could only give him a smoldering glare. cass has nothing to say to that. if it were anyone else, she'd 1v1 bitch fight them, but rory's nearly six feet tall. so she takes it, quietly seething inside.
"anywhere you're not." she snaps. they were heading out into the wild, towards oldale town. she stops at the entrance, tall grass poking high to above her waist. there were wild pokemon out there.
did rory really expect them to go to town like this? this route is plenty populated. they're full of people just like them. well, the new part. but they weren't leaders. and leaders shouldn't be seen together.
"cass." he stopped walking when she did. he ruffled his hair, thinking of what to do. what to say. he looked into her eyes and gave her a charming smile, the one she fell for all those years ago. if he could only get her to smile. that would be the first step towards healing their relationship.
"i know you. and you know me. what happened to those nights we had? don't you miss them?"
he got up closer to her. he was literally looking down at her. she was short. he likes that. but he does miss those nights. he doesn't regret anything, honestly, and he still stands by what he did. and he was quite sure she knew that.

"what." she says, finally stopping to look at him. she doesn't smile back at him, but she hears what he has to say anyways. she doesn't smile much. she folds her arms, leaning on a hip. rory needed to leave her alone already.
but then he starts saying things. things that they did so long ago. yes, they were the moments she misses the most. the nights they would stay up watching tv and talking. she almost smiles from the memories. almost. but then she remembers what happened after and it fades.
she feels the constricting feeling in her chest. there's a lump in her throat as rory steps closer. he towers over at her. she has to look up at him to meet his gaze. it's too much. she breaks it, looking away from him. "m-maybe i do. but it doesn't matter."
she hates the way her voice stutters. how's she's so short. it's naturally intimidating to be standing with someone you have to look up to. cass glares at him, gathering up the courage. it's just rory.
she growls, "sorry that you let it happen or sorry that you got caught?"
he knew it. she misses those nights just as much as he did. maybe even more. no, definitely more. he just missed spending time with her. "look at me," he whispered as she gathered up the courage. then she snapped at him. and now he was face with a choice to make.
was it really his fault though? he doesn't blame himself, nor does he blame the girl he was cheating with. he actually blamed cass back then for what happened. he wasn't so sure now. but a part of him still does.
looks like that part of him took over.
"both. more sorry that you let it happen."
he crossed his arms and stared at her. he knew just what to say to provoke her. but that wasn't his intention today. he was just speaking what he felt strongly about.

cass doesn't know why she listens to him, but when he tells her to look up at him, she does. in a glare. it's nearly impossible with her hat, but she puts a hand on top to keep it from falling. what he says next doesn't surprise her, but it still stings like it first did.
no. she convinced herself that it was her fault so long ago. it's not her fault. he chose to do it, not her. when cass realized that it felt like a liberation. now he was doing the same shit again.
for a moment she's shocked, but a sudden rush of rage fills her. she brings back a hand a whips it towards his face. how dare he, fucking bastard. she takes a shaky breath.
her hands are trembling. cass gives him the nastiest glare she could muster. she takes a moment to collect her words.
"fuck you." she says before turning around and stalking off into the wild.
her face changed from shock to anger within a second. he recognized that face all too well. her hand whips across his face as he stood there motionless. "ouch," he whispered. for such a small person she did have a lot of power. and a lot tenacity.
her hands were shaking. he could see the affect he had on her. it filled him with a feeling he desires: to be in control. he felt good. he felt powerful. her glare was met with his as she said her final words and left. and just like that she was gone. that meeting didn't go according to plan. but then again there wasn't really a plan to begin with.
whatever.
he should probably get going himself now. it wasn't good for the aqua leader to be out and around during the day. even more so when nobody knows he was out in the first place.
