Its been far too long since she last climbed a tree.
An arm hugged the trunk of tree, as she balanced herself on the branch. Another calm, summer morning in Hoenn- the air was fresh, the breeze gently nudged her pink hair from the messily put together bun and Murkrow paced worriedly from below. Left on the base of the tree, her travel bag and breakfast she still needed to clean up- man, it only been a day on the road and she was already craving warm breakfasts. Maybe she should've taken her father's advice about packing better meals and more cooking supplies.
Scratch that- there's a lot of his advice she should've paid more attention to.
"And they said this dumb thing had nation wide coverage. Bullshit." She growled, switching off her phone. Any hope to apologize to her mother would have to wait then- with a night's rest, the guilt was really wearing her thin. Sliding the found into her shorts' pocket, Mel shook her head in resignation. I'm so going to get chewed out for this. Arceus, have some mercy on me.
Shielding her eyes as she peer out above the treeline- she couldn't see Oldale from here either. To be honest, she hadn't really advance as much as she could've. Leaving town as soon as she could was an amateur move at best but she didn't have time to waste.
Petalburg, here she comes. A lovely festival would be the perfect place for her debut. Only if she could make on time, that is.
"Hey Jas." Hugging the tree trunk, she started her descent down. Her precious starter- Jas- hopped to base of the tree and looked up with worried eyes. "I think we should definitely keep a look out for potential stars to join us." Murkrow softly gave a "Krow." She didn't know if affirmation or what, but she'll take the timidness with as much enthusiasm. "Maybe something fluffy and cute." She grinned, carefully placing her foot on the groove in the tree as she glanced down. "Not that you're not cute enough- you're plenty. Just think you need a buddy. A fellow pokemon to share the routine, y'know." As she continued speak... well, Mel always been lackluster in her skills in multitasking. Her green eyes widen as her foot missed the next step...
It wasn't a long fall, nothing that could kill her but it didn't stop the "Fuuuuccckkk." along with a couple other, colorful words to leave her lips. Her bag kinda broke her fall, her tailbone safe but her bag wasn't full of plushies and softness. Groaning, she blinked her eyes. Hovering near her, Murkrow prod her cheek with his beak. "Ahaha, d-did I scare you? Don't worry- I'm okay." Cradling her forehead, she slowly sat up, "I think."
It was safe to say the small town girl really, really hadn't thought things through when she'd decided to pick up and leave Fallarbor for a life of adventure on the road. Sure, she'd come equipped with the knowledge and love of Pokemon, as well as tasty provisions and cooking utensils, but her darling little Oddish wasn't exactly the poster child for protection and safety. "I think we'll need to make some friends soon," she said, looking down at the Oddish she held in her arms. Freesia seemed rather content there, and who could blame her? Pokeballs were an awful jail cell! But the Oddish's little legs also made it hard for her to keep up, so Emma had taken to carrying her around like a child with a teddy bear.
"What sorts of Pokemon are on this route, I wonder." she thought aloud, already taking in the scenery around her and analyzing it. She was already naming off a list of potential Pokemon in her head. Lost in thought, she continued on forward without a care to her surroundings. Freesia rustled in her arms, looking up at her worriedly. The Oddish could hear the 'kaw' of a Pokemon nearby, and lots of rustling. But Em was still lost in mental algorithms, calculating the probability of a wild Mareep or Fletchling.
"Fuuuuccckkk." Now that certainly had caught her attention. Wide-eyed, Emma hurried over to the sound of crashing, groaning, and eventual laughter.
"A-Are you OK?!" she yelled, running into the clearing and looking worriedly at the pink-haired girl. A Murkrow rested in her lap, looking over her affectionately for wounds. Pokemon were a good judge of character, and this show of trust immediately put Emma at ease despite it being a complete stranger. Kneeling next to the young woman, she gently set Freesia down so that she could tend to the injured woman. Though...up close...
Could it be? After all of these years? "Melon?" she asked, removing the woman's hand from her forehead so that she could personally check it for any scrapes or bruises. "Do you hurt anywhere? You look fine...ah, but what if you hurt a muscle..." she muttered to herself, rummaging through her bag in search of something that could help.
"Ah, geez," she ruffled her brow, "You're always getting yourself into trouble, silly Melon. You'll make your cute Murkrow worry!"
up on another tree was an emolga who watched the two trainers with curiosity. the pink haired one was a bit weird. but humans were weird like that, she guessed. the other one was alright. when the pink haired trainer fell from the tree emolga swooshed across to the same tree and landed on a branch. she waved, trying to get their attention.

She... must've hit her head harder than she thought. Blinking a couple of times, she frowned at the visage that appeared.
Melon. She hasn't heard that nickname in years- and there was one person, from memory, that insisted on calling her that still. "Emma?" The old friend was older, of course; longer hair and more mature looking compared to the youthful child she remembered. Her eyes still haven't changed though. Neither has her knack to go mother mode.
Jas hopped off her lap, shying away from the new faces; eyeing the oddish warily, he squawked and flapped his wings, as if to warn. Mel reached over, slowly sitting up as she pet the antsy murkrow as she stared incredulously at Emma. "Y'know, I stopped by Fallarbor not too long ago and I was told you were gone." She started, a smile slowly wormed it way onto her lips, "Just my luck. I'm f-fine, just... Its been too long. How are you?"
Beaming with pride, she glanced at her murkrow, who crept closer and hid behind the coordinator slight. "Aw, Jas is always worrying. I think that's his thing. And your oddish is cute as well." Touching her forehead again, wincing slightly before she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, "I can't believe you actually left the farm- you should've, um... oh..." Mel trailed off, in her peripheral vision she noticed something...
She tilted her head, her mouth making a small 'o' as she spotted the... what she assumed was a friendly Emolga. Waving slightly back, she grinned. "Okay, maybe we could save hellos later- I was out here kinda hunting for new pokemon." Gesturing to Emolga, she nudged the girl, "Do you wanna?"
