It was morning on Route 101, the sky was a bright blue, and the Tailows were singing. This was probably one of Bunny's favorite parts of day, even though she usually slept right through it. Everything was so quiet and peaceful, with dew littered all over the grassy clearings and a light, humid haziness in the air.
Diana, her Dratini, was wrapped over her shoulders. Bunny was rather surprised with how heavy the tiny dragon pokémon could be, but it wasn't really enough to tire her out. She was still so amazed with how lucky she was with her starter — they were a perfect match. Diana was wonderful and fun and loved to play, but strong and determined when it came to battles. The next thing to figure out was how she performed in contests; Bunny couldn't wait!
To think of the crowd cheering their names, and adorning so many ribbons! Would Diana mind being dressed up a little to add effect? Bunny looked at the pokémon on her shoulder with adoration.
"Ini?" Diana piped curiously. Bunny smiled widely at her pokémon. She was so cute! "Dratini-ini!" Diana seemed to giggle, nuzzling her trainer's cheek with her nose. What were the chances of finding such a uniform team?
The dedenne scarmbled over to block the trainer's path, wanting to make a good show and maybe even have a battle. She wasn't quite sure what she wanted more, but she'd love to ransack a backpack or two and eat some muffins. She stood in front of the trainer and her pokemon, wagging her tail from side to side an nibbling on the air as cutely as she could
dedenne used tailwhip! (-1 def) dedenne used tailwhip! (-1 def)
Well, would you look at that! To Bunny's surprise, a little Dedenne popped out of the brush and right in front of her! The tiny electric mouse pokémon was facing Bunny and Diana, wagging her tail cutely and nibbling in the air, how adorable!
With a calm, careful hand, Bunny reached into her bag while balancing Diana on her shoulders. Pulling out a small poképuff and squatting down so she could be closer to the Dedenne's level, Bunny held out her arm and offered it to the small pokémon.
"Hey cutie, you hungry? I've got a snack, if you want it." Wiggling the poképuff a little, she hoped to entice it closer and maybe even befriend it. Little did she know the pokémon had already performed tail whip on her and Diana not only once, but twice!
It blinked at the offer, truly unsure of what the coordinator meant. Was it just giving her the little thing that looked like a tasty treat? Well that was kind of her! The dedenne beamed and smiled and let out a cry of happiness before leaning forward to take the treat. Too bad she was a little too happy and she probably shocked if not injured the trainer and the Pokemon with the sparks she made on contact. When she finished the goods and looked back, the dedenne laughed at how silly the girl's hair looked!
It was working! Excitement rushed through her veins as the Dedenne took nibbles of her poképuff — wait. Wait. This was more than excitement. This hurt.
Teeth chattering, skin buzzing, and hearing a shrill whining noise from Diana, Bunny realized the Dedenne was shocking her!
The painful sensation lasted for a good 5 or so seconds, and once it was over Bunny and Diana were more or less extremely relieved. Bunny felt like she was filled with static, and when she tried to check and see how her Dratini was doing, the got another tiny shock that made her jump in surprise (and moderate terror).
The tiny little Dedenne began to make a noise, and after a few seconds of confusion, Bunny realized it was giggling, at her! After feeling around her body and finally her head, Bunny realized that her hair was quite a frizzy mess! Giggling a little herself, she figured the Dedenne must have accidentally jolted her and Diana while eating (though she wasn't quite sure, might've been a prank...). Either way, she found it quite funny.
"Well aren't you a cutie?" Bunny snickered quietly to herself. "What do you think Diana, should we ask if she wants to join?"
After shaking her head, Diana let out an excited shrill that convinced Bunny that Dedenne should join, if they could convince her. "What do you say?"
Well the girl was definitely more open minded to jokes than the rest of her so called friends! She was kinder, too, Dedenne could just feel it. The Pokemon was vastly ignorant to the meaning of the word travel, and had no idea what the girl wanted from her when she asked it to come along with her. In the end, she said yes, not because she really loved the trainer, but rather because she wanted to repay her for that tasty sweet.
A surge of excitement ran all the way through Bunny's body as she pulled out a pokéball and accepted the little mouse pokémon inside (or maybe it was just aftershocks?). This was her first officially-caught, just-by-herself pokémon! Her journey was finally, finally on it's way to greatness. With two pokémon now on her side, she'd be unstoppable!
Er, well... not really. They were both pretty low-level and needed lots of training still. Speaking of training, she should probably keep searching for other wild pokémon! So, picking herself up and nuzzling Diana closely, she continued down Route 101 with a heightened ear.
"Tell me if you see anything, Diana," Bunny asked of her Dratini. "The next poké we find, we should try to battle it to win its loyalty, not treats!"
Diana nodded in agreement, a determined fire blazing in her eyes as she began to search thoroughly between the trees and bushes.
It was nearly 20 minutes later before Bunny decided she might as well turn around. Jeeze, did she accidentally put on a Super Repel instead of deodorant this morning without noticing? Sighing loudly, she nearly gave up until Diana piped up.
The snake-like pokémon excitedly (and sloppily) slithered down her trainer's body until she reached the ground and shot towards a bush that was rustling. Could it be, another wild pokémon? Bunny watched in anticipation as Diana neared the bush, waiting to see what could possibly be hiding inside it.
Okay just because falling from trees was apparently an everyday consequence for seedots like him, never ever meant that it was pleasing. God damn it all. The bushes's vines and thorns tanlged themselves around him and the seedot moved around, which was probably what caused the rustling. It finally came out of the bush to up across a dratini, and that was when it froze up and used bide! Brace yourself!
Bunny watched with quivering anticipation as the bushes continued to rustle and rustle, until suddenly a Seedot popped out! The tiny seed-like pokémon was frozen in front of Diana, and it took Bunny a few seconds longer than it probably should have to realize that it was stiff and storing power for an attack!
In a rush of panic, Bunny shouted "Diana! Use Ice Beam, quickly, quickly!"
The Dratini did as she was told, and since it and the Seedot were so close, the pokémon and trainer could only hope that the Seedot would be incapable of moving due to its attack.
"Follow up with Leer, we don't want to be too injured when it attacks!"
Well that was pointless- the ice beam was a super effective attack, and something wayy to strong to even want to be against. Despite bracing itself the seedot could hardly to more than let out a cry of pain and agony as the attack hit, and then quickly fell down soon after, completely unconscious. His bide would never be released.
seedot fainted! dratini gains 1 level! more pokemon? capture?
Bunny didn't even realize that Diana using Leer was useless until it already happened. Oops.
She felt pretty bad for the little Seedot, she didn't mean to hurt it too badly. Bunny was quick to accept it into a pokéball in hopes to heal it up later so it wouldn't have to suffer for too much longer. But for now, she decided to continue on her search for more pokémon! Besides, it was too nice of a day to give up so early, right?
So Bunny and Diana continued down the trail, watching steadily for something to come up. After about an hour of aimlessly walking around, now content with staying out in the sun as the air grew warm and comfortable, she was startled by the high-pitched cry of something nearby!
Both trainer and Dratini ran in the direction of the cry, worried about a pokémon that could possibly need help!
