the last time he had actually traveled and had somewhat of a goal in mind was years ago when he was in johto. he had just been a kid then just wanting to see the world and have fun with his best friend. a lot had happened between johto and here and it was almost like he was back at square one. a new pokemon that was still rather young and filled with excitement for trying new things. it reminded him of his very first pokemon and how she had spent the better part of the day running around through the grass with the flames on her back appearing and disappearing from view.
now he had a new pokemon, another young female, but not quite what he was expecting. he should have been used to it by now with the weird habits some pokemon had. nova had a habit of pawing at people's legs and eating just about anything she could find. this one...had a habit of sitting on heads. his neck was starting to ache from the added weight it had to support because of the flying type that was currently resting on his head. it was cute albeit a little irritating when the swablu did not want to get off unless forced back into her pokeball. "want to head back? it's getting pretty late out here?" they had spent the better part of the day roaming around the route and trying to find whatever they could. in response, the pokemon ruffled its cloud like wings and shrilled into the air. he tried to ignore the fact it was pulling his hair with its movements.
He's just recieved his pokemon thirty or so minutes ago, and despite his placid maybe even lackadaisical attitude the pokemon still trails behind him a bit, not entirely sure of what to think of the red haired man. When they first meet they seemingly hit it off so much so that the professor in charge allows him to take the pokemon, however making a temporary friend, and being forced to travel with one was different. She doesn't know what to think quite yet, and he trainer still believes she's a male, to her dismay.
He doesn't know what exactly to do to help the bonding process and so he wanders around the first route until he finds berries of all sorts. sharing the snacks together helps warm the pokemon up to him in fact they spent about an hour or so doing just that learning about each other. He still believes the pokemon is a male, but after a situation regarding a blue eyed boys poochyena the bug pokemon feels much safer. He's decided to spend the night in the route as opposed to the town, Larvesta following along quickly. The goal is to get an early start and make it to oldale by mid morning if not sooner.
It's here an hour and a half after meeting his pokemon that he runs into another red haired boy at the start of the route. he moves through the brush only noticing him after the fact, he hopes he didn't startle the other red haired man. "Hope I didn't startle you, rare to catch other beginner trainers out this late, wasn't expecting to run into anybody else." His expression is neutral, unassertive passive even. Typically trainers would force a battle out of this chance encounter, and while he can and will battle he has no intention of being aggressor, especially not this late.
the swablu, who he had affectionately named snow, saw no problem taking perch on his head. her feet were currently tangled in his hair causing an uncomfortable pulling sensation every time she wanted to move which was quite often. when he had first met her at the lab, she had immediately flew at him and landed on his head and refused to move even when he tried to get her off. he was told swablus loved to do such a thing along with clean their surroundings when it was dirty. so rather than trying to get her to stop being...a swablu in a sense, he left her to her own devices and let her stay.
evan sighed and moved his head to the side slightly to support the added weight. "let's head ba-" before he could continue, the swablu began to chant fearfully. evan heard the noise coming from beside him and turned to see another red haired male walking out of the bushes. it looks like he wasn't the only one who was out here so late. "shit!" the swablu flapped its cloud like wings which hit against the side of his head. "it's okay! you're fine!" he reached up and patted the pokemon to calm her down. slowly the flying type rested back in place, still staring warily at the newcomer. evan turned to face the new trainer who seemingly appeared out of nowhere. he wasn't expecting anyone to be out this late either. "you're fine. i guess she got startled from you suddenly appearing. we weren't expecting to see anyone else out this late." he looked down and caught sight of the larvesta following behind the male and guessed it must have been his pokemon. "are you out here training?" he commented and nodded down at the fire type.
His eyes narrow as the startled bird pokemon acts, Larvesta hides behind the man's leg as it continues only reappearing when the flying type calms down. He doesn't know much about pokemon but Swablu were popular throughout the region usually known for their sing song voice, and the fact they liked to perch themselves on strangers. A rumor he remembers from his childhood comes to mind. 'If a swablu sits on your head its good luck.' It was a cute rumor parents told their children growing up.
"That makes two of us." He makes extra effort to be calm lest the Swablu has another panic attack. "Not training as much as getting a move on, I don't wanna get caught in the rush of trainers in the morning, it's much more peaceful and beautiful traveling at night, wouldn't you say." His love for the night sky transcends any kind of sleep schedule.

the swablu was slowly calming down from the sudden appearance of the newcomers. she wasn't a skittish pokemon but it was dark out and the last thing the bird pokemon was expecting was for someone to pop out of the trees. her trainer didn't seem wary of the human and his pokemon so she would not be either. snow flapped her wings and took off of evan's head, landing beside the larvesta. it peered at it curiously and hopped closer in an attempt to greet it.
evan thanked all the gods in every religion when the flying type finally got off of his head. he tilted his neck to the side and tried to crack it in an attempt to relieve some of the pain the pokemon had caused. rubbing the his neck, he looked up from the two pokemon and back to the trainer. he did remember going out earlier in the day and finding a mess of trainers battling amongst each other and catching whatever pokemon they could find. since it was the starting area of the region, he guessed this was a hot spot for battles and the like. evan didn't particularly care for battling others and getting stronger, only wanting to travel around.
"i guess you're right." he looked up at the night sky and did agree that it was rather peaceful. "so you don't want to become the champion? from what i hear, that's a goal for a lot of trainers around here."
As the bird pokemon flies down the Larvesta cowers for a moment extremely wary of the bird pokemon typically flying types were predators which added on the her fear. She attempts to scuttle up her trainers side, but he doesn't allow it. He kneels and whispers, "Don't worry it wont hurt you I promise." The pokemon makes a sound thats similar to a whine of sorts, but its okay he doesn't falter, slowly but surely she waves to its natural enemy just as she's done to any other pokemon she's met thus far, and most likely any pokemon she'll meet in the future.
He gives one final glance to the pokemon as it seems more sociable before focusing on the trainer before him. "I wouldn't call it my goal persay, but then again I'm not like many other trainers. Then again that isn't to say i'm opposed to the whole become the champion thing either you know. I'll just go wherever the world takes me right now." His eyes are focused once again examining the semblances of goals that he has if he can even call them that.
"How about you friend, what's your goal sounds like you're not really working towards being the champ either."

the swablu hopped forward only to pause when the larvesta cowered away from her. she watched curiously as the trainer knelt down to calm the bug and turned to look between them. she was a little disheartened that the other pokemon was afraid of her but wouldn't push the encounter. the swablu instead ruffled its cloud-like feathers and sat down on the ground nearby to watch. it didn't last long when the larvesta waved slowly over to her and it took a lot for the flying type not to chant in happiness. raising one of the wings, she waved back happily and let out a happy greeting in the prospect of a new friend.
evan watched the encounter with a small smile before turning his attention back to the other trainer to leave the two pokemon to interact with each other on their own. well it wasn't a particularly bad thing to go with the flow. he was just so used to running into trainers who had their mind set on one thing: becoming the best. it was different to hear someone with similar outlook that he had; not set on becoming the champion but not opposed to the idea of it either. all he really wanted to do was travel.
"i'm kind of like you in a way. i'm not really looking to set out to become the champion but if it happens along the way, i'm not against the idea." evan rubbed the back of his neck and almost laughed at th thought of becoming the champion of a region he did not care all that much about. "my main goal is to travel. a friend and i just came to this region not that long ago. i think seeing the sights isn't too bad of a goal, if you can even call it one."
"We're not too different then." There's slight relief in his voice as continues, "I don't think it's much of a goal, but its all I have right now." Not entirely a lie, but then again it wasn't entirely the truth either. He turns to the stars for a moment his true goal unknown to all, even himself. "It is what it is, so I'm not gonna stress it you know, take it one step at a time if that makes sense." His eyes fall to the pokemon playing on the forest floor more than amicable now.The pokemon was now happily playing with the Swablu not a care in the world it seemed, the two were fast friends, the second one the fire type had made today and in the course of a couple of hours at that.
"Seeing the world with a friend." He nods understandingly "It sounds like a nice reality." He pauses for a moment imagining it, indeed it'd be nice to travel through the region with a friend or two at your side, however he doesn't have many friends a number of acquaintances but friends were few and far between. "So you're not from here then, care to share?" He asks casually passing the time while the pokemon play.
"there's nothing wrong with that." evan commented, knowing that he himself didn't have a goal in mind. traveling was the only thing he wanted to do right now. he didn't have his mind set on being the best in the region or getting a hoard of pokemon. all he wanted to do was travel with those he cared about and see the world. a goal would come later to him but for now he was content to just live his life the way it is now. "sometimes goals just come to you when you least expect it."
evan turned to look down at the two pokemon who were now getting along swimmingly and smiled at the sight. he knew his pokemon was a bit much but she could be calm when she wanted to be. "well i grew up in olivine city in johto. my friend and i grew up there until we decided we wanted to go travel the region." his mind drifted to the time where he got his first pokemon and how excited he had been to leave. "i've actually been to a few regions but we ended up here now to start over; fresh start and all that." he gestured to his his still pokemon and looked towards the other red haired male. "are you originally from here?"
"I'd hope not." it's a quick response he leans back against a tree continuing to watch the fast friends continue to play doing whatever it was pokemon did. The evenings silence interrupted by the two's cries and laughs here and there. The other man is insightful in a word, or at least he sounds the part. "Sounds like you have some experience in the subject." He responds on the topic of goals which still lingers in the air.
"Olivine City, that's the Johtoan port, right?" he searches through disorganized memories never having cared much for the geography of the outside world, it always seems too far out of reach for him. "So you've been all over then, sounds like quite the experience honestly I'm a little jealous." he laughs lightly before continuing. "Yeah born and raised, I didn't really have the opportunity to travel when I was younger, so I'm making up for lost time." He feels lost for a moment a number of the reasons that prevented him from traveling come to mind, he ignores them and continues. "So why Hoenn this time around, it's a pretty backwater region compared to Johto I assume."
"ehhhh i wouldn't say i have experience with goals. i'm horrible with them." evan rubbed the back of his neck. he really was. when they had first started out on johto, the first thing he said to noah was that he wanted to travel and that was it. no goal to become the champion or the best trainer in the world or even just making it through all the cities. all he wanted to do was travel. he didn't have the goal to find noah even when the other disappeared for all those years. he just happened to find his friend in another region when he had randomly went there.
he watched the two pokemon converse amongst themselves all the while listening to what the trainer had to say. "better late than never right?" it was never too late to start whatever you wanted to do in life. at least he had the opportunity to get out and see the world now. "it's funny because we don't know why we came here. i think we just wanted a fresh start and neither of us had been to hoenn yet. it's not all bad here. there is a lot of water though." he had never seen this much water in an area. he heard there was literally an underwater city or some shit in this region.
"Is that so." He closes his eyes for a second thinking of a number of goals he made for himself throughout his life some he managed to accomplish others left unfinished and stagnant. Prior to two years ago there was little he'd actually managed to accomplish in his years. "I suppose it comes down to what we value as people you know. Some value power, others fame, while some... some just value sights. What we see what we experience and you're right, there's nothing wrong with that." He pauses for a moment looking the other trainer down, his story matches with another he met not too long ago.
"As for our region, I think that's the number one complain, we get stories of trainers losing their way around Mossdeep and Lilycove all the time, you'd think surfing in a straight line would be pretty easy, you'd be wrong." There were rumors constantly about the trek between Mossdeep and Lilycove, the horror stories about people trying to navigate to Sootpolis were legendary to say the least.
"Funny, not to long ago met another guy from Johto grumpier guy, but dependable, that wouldn't happen to be your friend would it?"
"you have a point." the other red haired male was also insightful about things. it was nice to know that he wasn't the only one without a goal and just went with the flow. "nice to know we think the same thing."
hoenn had too much water. he was still curious about whatever city one had to dive underwater to get to. they had passed a lot of islands on the way to the region and they had learned that it was also part of hoenn. he had passed lakes, beaches, ponds, streams, rivers, etc just on the way to littleroot. this was the most water he had seen ever. "i can't wait. heard there was an underwater city or something... is that true?" he was really curious about it and was somewhat unnerved to know that they eventually might have to go under the sea just to see it.
evan paused at the description of the person the man had said and couldn't help but laugh. grumpy was one way of putting it. he wondered if noah had somehow done something that made him seem like an asshole. "did he go by noah? cause yeah that's him... did he do something? i'm going to apologize right now if he did." he always learned to go ahead and tell someone sorry for whatever noah said to them. he wasn't the nicest person in the world.
"Yeah... Meeting people similar to myself is rare to say the least." The number of trainers aiming for strength and fame far outweighed people like himself, just looking to enjoy the journey, but perhaps it was because they had such a clear goal that many managed to succeed. Who was to say.
The man speaks of what he can only assume is Sootopolis City, another small chuckle escapes him. "Not entirely, I think somewhere down the line your information got 'muddled' to say the least. Sootopolis itself isn't underwater it's in the middle of a crater. How the crater was made I have no idea, but the only way to enter the city is by diving underneath from the outside... or flying in from above. Most people utilize the former."
The conversation shifts to that of the opposing trainers friend, "Not at all he's not the kindest guy, but he definitely wasn't a bad guy, watch out for him he looks dependable but I wouldn't be surprised if he was the type to get in over his head you know?"
"oh there isn't an actual underwater city?" he was a little disappointed. sure it was scary to think about being under all that water and who knows whatever shit was lurking down there but it would have been cool to see. "i guess that still counts. it sounds pretty cool. not better than an entire city underwater though. would have been a great tourist attraction." evan chuckled and shrugged. sootpololis was definitely a place he wanted to check out if they eventually made it that far.
evan listened to the other trainer about noah and couldn't help but agree. noah wasn't a bad guy but he wasn't the nicest person in the world. usually when he met someone that had a run in on him, he was met with a sour look and a complaint about something rude he said to the person. noah never had been a people person. "yeah you can say that. i'm surprised he didn't say something rude to you. are you sure we're talking about the same person?" he was mostly joking but then again.... "cause i can apologize again if he did...knowing him..."
