"And that's the number one complaint about the region, 'Too much water'. Only second to the number of offhanded comments about trumpets, but I don't really understand that one. The water makes sense though, I've heard of trainers getting lost for days at a time in the routes between Mossdeep and Lilycove, Don't even get me started on Sootopolis and Pacifidlog Town." Water and Hoenn went together like peanut butter and jelly, it was truly the most plentiful element. Even though he was born in this beautiful tropical climate it wasn't without its own woes. Torrential rains at the drop of a dime, Hurricane warnings all throughout the year. Indeed Hoenn was not without its issues, in fact a special institute was made in his youth specifically to monitor any and all changes in the weather throughout the region. The station was supposedly funded by the president of Devon Corp himself over a decade and a half ago.
"Nah we got it under control, we'll be there by nightfall I'm sure. It's all good," Perhaps he is more lackadaisical then he should be, but it is what it is, and that's alright in his book. Advice from the past once again echoes in 'One step at a time.' She mentions the beach and its activities, but truth be told it almost always feels like summer in Hoenn. He thinks of winter as a slightly cooler spring, still he understands her mentality. "Ocean swimming gets really popular this time of year, but a bunch of festivals take place in cities and towns throughout the region Summer's truly the most popular time for trainers and tourists alike."
While Miles muses over a number of things Hoenn related Sola is more than determined to get her trainers attention, and so she targets the small grass type hoping off his lap making a number of chirping sounds at the trainer, getting his attention. It's almost apparent what she's looking once again to his chagrin. "I know we just spoke about the whole annoying battling trainers thing, but I doubt the little one is going to give in. I'm so sorry I honestly don't know whats come over her."
[attr=class, lutxt] "Makes sense that summer is the more popular time for journeys to start," she commented offhandedly. Miles seemed so confident in himself and that was likely because he had traveled to Oldale already and knew the way. If Syndra would stop getting stopped or even distracted by her environment maybe the travel would have went more smoothly. That was when the bug type had made itself over to the redhead's lap and began making strange noises. The noises were enough to startle her Turtwig enough to jump up at the sound and Syndra to lift her hand to her lips in surprise. Turtwig didn't seem to much appreciate the sudden wake up and to soothe him Syndra let out her hand with what was left of the Oran berry she had been eating. Reluctant due to just waking up the turtle slowly moved forward and ate the half of the Oran berry which caused it to perk up a bit. That was something to keep in mind.
Unfortunately it led to what she wasn't exactly pleased about. At least this time the trainer had actually stopped and talked to her rather than just jump out at her and challenge her to a battle. It wasn't that she didn't want to or was against it but there had been so many and she wasn't exactly in the position to win here either. She knew the type advantages and Turtwig was on the losing end no matter how it was twisted. "Ah. Well..." there was clear hesitation but Turtwig didn't seem to mind going back into a fight so turned to the opponents. Syndra noticed this and shook her head. "I suppose I don't mind if Turtwig is fine with it." With that the female trainer got back to her feet and brushed off the dirt or whatever else that might have gotten on her skirt.
He honestly feels terrible about asking the girl to battle, not so much asking as Sola forcing one out of the woman, and himself. It looks like Turtwig however is also ready to fight due to his pokemon's actions one way or another making him look like even worse of a trainer. Seeing as there's no way out of this he stands tall dusting himself off as well taking a position behind his pokemon lazily, he really isn't in the mood anymore instead making a mental note to talk to the pokemon later as a lesson in manners was seriously needed. The hesitation in her voice makes him question the validity of this fight even more causing him to sigh heavily as it begins. At least it gave him the opportunity to test out the new attack Larvesta learned on the way here. "Honestly I can't apologize enough.
"If we're doing this I guess I'll start it off then. String Shot." He rolls his eyes as the small bug pokemon is more than happy to shoot a sticky web at the enemy it's horns releasing the streamlined web like substance at the turtwig. It wasn't a damaging move but maybe it'd set up some attacks later on down the road. The white web flying straight forward at the grass type pokemon. As he continues to battle his knowledge and planning skills increase with each fight, not only does the pokemon get stronger but he as a trainer also learns, and strengthens in an entirely different sense.
[attr=class, lutxt] At this point not only did the other trainer seem apologetic, he seemed pretty apathetic to the current situation of having to battle. True Syndra did not look forward to losing and had been in battles all day but it wasn't like he jumped her from a tree to challenge her. "Make it up to me later somehow," she finally declared if only to get something out of this as well as make the battle less depressing. Turtwig seemed ready and so as the opposing team was getting into battle stances she decided to just brace for whatever was to come. Turtwig wasn't going to like it and she'd probably have to go out and find some Rawst Berries after the fact but what else could she do?
"Might as well make some attempt right buddy? Use Withdraw to strengthen your defenses." With that the turtle pokemon clammed up and rolled back onto his backlegs to tuck his big head somewhat under his stubby front legs. It was strange to her how this would be considered a good defense. Maybe its hide was stronger like this? The String shot hit and covered the poor grass type with sticky webbing but he didn't move. "Withdraw another time just for added defense." Turtwig tightened its position as noticed by the small movement made from under the cover of the white layer of threading the bug created.
"Of course I will it's the least I can do after all, how does dinner on me sound in Petalburg?" Seeing as they were both heading to Petalburg, it would serve as something else to look forward to in the city, as well as a good apology. The conversation between the trainers however only serves to aggravate the Larvesta more as she finishes her string shot. She chirps loudly at her trainer a call for him to focus. "Aye..." He grumbles lowly deciding on another attack the new one she'd just learned. "Go for the Leech Life." Truth be told he was more interested in watching the attack. He'd read about it earlier thanks in part to his pokedex, but watching how pokemon utilized certain moves was much more useful than a base definition in the long run.
Larvesta responds crawling towards her opponent as fast as she can before hopping off her hind legs in attempting to dig to small fangs into the grass type pokemon. He watches carefully making notes on the move, despite being far more focused on her response to dinner. His phone begins to vibrate, but he's far too focused on whats in front of him to even hear the device, and so it falls silent.
[attr=class, lutxt] The female trainer shook her head not in denial but disbelief at the male's statement. "You should find a better pick up line first before asking me out to dinner," she responded only to be interrupted by the bug types cries again to draw the attention back on the battle. Turtwig stayed stationary and all that could be done was wait as the bug type rushed over to leech onto the turtle. It wasn't a pretty sight but it was something. "Tackle it off then tackle it to the ground while you're close!" Springing to action the grass type uncurled itself and flung its head as to flick off the creature on him. The movements were a bit slower due to the string shot sticking to unnecessary things but he made due as Turtwig rushed forward to do a full body tackle. Imagine pulling something stuck on gum. It was like that. As for the offer there was not much more to say about it, "We'll see when we get to Petalburg."
"Don't worry I'll have a better pick up line waiting for you in Petalburg." he calls across the battlefield cracking a small smile. The leech life connected and it was far more graphic then he expected it would have been far worse if she hadn't raised the grass types defense prior. The bug pokemon isn't fast enough to get out in time and takes the double tackle. It's definitely a hard two hits but the bug pokemon can still go on. It was time for a new strategy seeing as the turtwig did damage from up close he'd attack from afar not willing to risk any more damage. "Ember." the horns on the pokemon's light quickly each releasing a small flame aimed directly at the grass pokemon. His phone begins to ring again, but still he doesn't quite notice the beeping.
"I heard of a half decent restaurant, on the far side of town, it's near the beach front or so I hear." He continues the conversation casually as the fire type pokemon pouts further. continuing to chirp at her trainer, maybe he was in the wrong now.
[attr=class, lutxt] To put it bluntly, Syndra didn't believe him. Nope. Not one bit. But rather than say anything else the battle was more of her focus. The attacks both connected to which made the younger trainer pleased despite herself knowing that this was probably not going to end in her favor. The grass type seemed happy too. Then the fire happened. With the command being given there was not much Syndra could do aside from tell Turtwig to dodge. Even then it would not have worked and been too late so instead there were no commands given. If she believed withdraw could have done something to help she would have ordered it instead of watching the flames scorching the weaker pokemon. It wasn't enough to down Turtwig or anything but the pokemon was hurt and just somehow hanging on. The leaves on his head seemed to grow a tad larger and have a hint of a glow which signaled Turtwig's ability was active. Being inexperienced however the trainer didn't notice it.
"Try another Tackle then jump back to avoid getting hit," Syndra said quickly after Turtwig seemed to get his bearings back from the fire. With more livid life the grass type charged forward with enough force to keep charging past the Larvesta regardless if it hit or not. All the while the male was still trying to talk her into these dinner plans. "You aren't worried one bit about this pick up line being worst than your first one?"
"Nah, being the underdog suits a guy like me, it's part of my charm." The battle continues on the ember doing a great deal of damage to the pokemon. Despite their conversation he still feels bad about the entire battle Larvesta is still more than ready to continue having gotten hit by another tackle. He knows how to finish the match Sola after all isn't looking quite as strong as she was prior.
Just as he's about to give the last order his pokegear rings for the third time only now does he realize it's been ringing in the first place. He answers the call much to his pokemon's annoyance seeing that its urgent. He answers the phone only to hear a voice far more annoyed than even Sola at this point. "Shit... Time got away from me..." He stops for a moment listening to the voice. "Don't worry Basil I'm right outside of town." Soon after the call ends, and ever so suddenly he slides a pokeball out of his pocket a red light forcing the bug pokemon back in her pokeball. "I'm gonna have to cut it there." He's bashful now. "I forfeit." He rubs the back of his head. "My friend is finished his shopping, and ready to get a move on..." Truly saved by the bell.
[attr=class, lutxt] Just like that the match was cut short much to Syndra's both surprise and relief. In the end that meant that she won right? Turtwig seemed equally surprised but lowered his guard quickly enough as continuing to fight in such conditions wasn't the best idea. The idea of fainting wasn't too keen on his to do list after all. Miles seemed to be in a hurry so she didn't want to get in the way, especially due to the fact that he had just given her the win. "That's good for you then. You should get moving so you don't keep your partner waiting." Taking her pokeball back out to recall Turtwig, she looked onto the male. "A perfect example of the pluses of traveling alone. Traveling at your own pace," added in as a tease.
"Ah you've shown me the error of my ways. I'll be sure to drop my friend and travel by myself." For the umpteenth time he rolls his eyes at the girl a good natured smile on plastered on his face now that the battle was over. He could feel Sola's pokeball shake, but he'd deal with that problem a little later. He reaches for his bag on the ground slinging it across his back beginning his fast paced treck up the hill, "It's been Syndra if you're interested I'll be waiting by the beachfront in Petalburg at 7:00 tomorrow night. Hope to catch you there." He doesn't wait for a response casually waving as he continues up the hill. NOTES: Threads TAGGED: Syndra Mawdrey

[attr=class, lutxt] She waved goodbye to the man as he departed, shaking her head as his figure began fading into the distance. Choosing not to call him out for his verbal mistakes if only because he was clearly in a rush to catch up to his friend. It was likely just due to his awkwardness anyway. There was no indication from her whether she's accept his invitation and was admittedly rather bold in his invitation. He assumed that she would make it too which was flattering but at the rate she was getting stopped, she would not make it to Petalburg by tomorrow. Huffing at the end of the interaction the girl readjusted her bag to her side and once again began her leisurely stroll down the road.
The fourth trainer he met that he truly connected with on some level. Thoughts of the four came to him in order, Noah, Evan, Basil, and Now Syndra all of them interested them, each forging their own paths through life, and this journey. He has an inkling he'll be running into these four far more often than any normal person should during this trip of his. He can feel his phone vibrating but chooses not to answer it hurrying down the hill. Basil most likely waiting by the west gate to continue on. Petalburg was the next big destination, and hopefully he'd be able to meet all four of them again in the city during the festival. Or maybe he wouldn't only time would tell.
