It was difficult not to notice the glances made by the waiter to Miles yet Syndra tried her best not to. With more smiles and such to keep the mood, she watched as the waiter took the first order. Having yet to even look at the menu the girl scrambled to read it over at the realization before it was her own turn to order. The menu items were quite foreign to the young woman and even though she wanted to try something nice and fancy there was no reason to order something at random that she may not have any desire to eat. Luckily she had known a bit of the words that the menu used but it had become her turn to fast. "Oh!" she said as if not knowing and picked the first thing she recognized from the list. "Magret de Canard," she knew that this dish had something to do with duck. she had no problem with seared duck so the choice was said with more confidence than she initially would have thought. The waiter walked off with their menus leaving only the wait.
That instant that she asked about his past there was no missing the instant first reaction of Miles' eyes widening. Had he not expected that after what was said? One way or another Miles did speak on his past and it bore some resemblance to her past. There were differences. Syndra was by no means a bad kid, or at least not outwardly, and while her parents were never home they were out earning money to pay for the bills so there was no ill thoughts on them. Then the story sounded more farfetched with the introduction of college. The green haired girl never did enter college nor had a desire to with her brothers growing up in her care, yet she knew that college no matter what kind was somewhat expensive. It made her wonder where money fell from that allowed him to go to college. For the majority of the story she sipped the lemonade in front of her while nodding on occasion. When it came to the date comment however she laughed. "Is that what you wanna call this?" she asked with charming smile. Part of her knew that it might have been a subject change but as mentioned she didn't mind subject changes. "As long as you don't put all your eggs in one basket." Syndra took another sip of her lemonade to leave the statement at that, not fully answering it and allowing Miles to make the call if he wanted to. Either way would not have changed Syndra's outlook or anything. She was curious as to if Miles did consider this a date or not.

He doesn't remember his college life as fondly as many other do, The fact it was literally paid with the blood of his mother would always weigh heavy on his shoulders. Life insurance gave him the opportunity. An opportunity he never cared much for in the first place still it was something she'd always wanted for him, how could he not oblige and honor that wish? Running the numbers for the little institution in Rustburo made him sick to this day. Every check, every blood soaked penny and dime he gave away added to the burden on his conscious, he'd have much preferred not pursuing his scholarly feat if it meant that she got to live however the world seldom works as he wishes. He's learned to take what he gets without complaint and enjoy the boons he is given through life. Boons such as; The opportunity to travel around a region he loves, a pokemon that isn't too hard to get along with, and the opportunity to spend time barbing and chatting with a wonderful girl that he'd enjoy his 'date' for the evening.
"I'd love to call it a date, but something in the back of my mind says that's coming on too strong." A twisted smile accompanies the statement, saying what he thinks is a bit bold in his opinion, The risk causes his chest to uncomfortably rise for the umpteenth time this evening to his annoyance, thankfully he's starting to get used to the feeling. He's now thankful he's never been one to exhibit sweaty palms or anything of the sort when he's nervous, other than a minor stutter of course. This isn't to say he got nervous often, in truth there was a certain quality of hers that managed to bring this out of him. Something that was entirely unrelated to her kindness and this good natured positivity she couldn't help but exude. It was a trait that attracted him, but also worked against him just as easily. "I dunno, I think if you like a person enough you have to put all your eggs in one basket, especially when it comes to a certain green haired girl i'd like to date. I feel like if I weren't to give it my all I wouldn't be able to impress her, It's kinda hard because I can never tell what she's thinking behind that smile of hers, what would you say she's thinking?" His eyes meet hers as he finishes, now sipping at his own drink now anticipating her response.
"Oh?" her lips parted for that sound to show that she heard what he said and was curious on it. "That is a bold statement Miles," she chimed whimsically yet matter-of-factly. Truth be told with Syndra how she is, she did not know much about the dating scene. Back then she was too busy caring for her brothers to think about such things even though her brothers were the opposite at a young age. It had not dawned on the girl that it could have been a possibility for her to pursue. She had always avoided the prospect for the sake of the family. For now since Miles was doing the theoretical statements about this 'girl' Syndra decided to play along with it. Sinking back in her chair as she placed her index finger on her chin making the "Hmmm," sound in thought as to what the male said, she decided on how to respond. "Ah if this girl were anything like me she would be thinking about the day and wondering if this is how her new life was going to be every day." There was a light laugh at her own realization of this fact. At the end of the day Syndra usually went with the flow of things and was never introspective or recollect her thoughts long enough to worry too hard unless prompted to do so, so this was one of the few times she could. There was no lie about it after all though it was likely not what he wanted to hear.
But being serious about this type of thing wasn't exactly what she was used to so she shrugged off her previous words to get herself back to what Miles likely wanted to know. Dating. Still not something she had in mind but she believed this was rightfully so. "As for trying to date her and impress her, I'm sure she is impressed with whatever you'd show her. Still you'd have to try harder than one date if you're trying to fully commit, especially after just two meetings." At this point Syndra lifted her arms above her head to stretch a bit as it had been a long trip for her. She was graceful about it and at the end added, "But don't take my word for it. This girl might not be anything like me." A coy smile appeared on her lips as she moved to drink more lemonade from her glass.

It was indeed bold, but was it bold enough to work? Well it depended on what one meant by 'work' the cool coffee offsets the weather perfectly as he listens intently. His heart quickens in his chest as she begins to answer. This semi-direct approach as risky as it may have been was what he needed to put himself at ease, thus far after all in his opinion he's just rambled on for most of the evening about a number of things, he just hoped this whole thing hadn't turned into a complete bust for the woman, which it hasn't apparently, or at least hasn't yet. The smile on her face as she goes on can't help but force him to raise an eyebrow, It was a look that said he had power and she knew it. very cute in a 'I know things you don't ha ha.' kind of way. Truth be told this was his first real date he's ever been on having always been to preoccupied with his job to ever really involve himself romantically with another. He figured it's one of the reasons why such a free spirited anti-stress person like him, would seem just the opposite. Proving people were definitely much more strange when they were emotionally charged, something true in both anger and romance alike.
As she finishes he feels positive... Far more positive than he did moments ago. He attempts to mask this new found confidence by sipping his coffee far more vigorously than he did prior, only serving to make him look more ridiculous if that was possible. He quickly gathers the little wit he has at the moment forming a coherent reply, "I mean I think she's a a lot like you if you want my opinion, I mean I'm lucky to even be out with her in the first place, and I can only hope she allows me another outing after this. After all I have an entire region to prove myself, that is if she'll let me of course." As he finishes the waiter is just on time with the meal, her duck and his fish served on a semi-fancy platter. Upon seeing it he can't help but compliment the meal, "So I think I chose a pretty good restaurant in the long run yeah?" He only now recognizes the waiter, Only now understanding why he seemed to be so focused on the trainer, it would be odd serving the same man twice in one day. The older man takes his leave sparing a final knowing glance at the trainer something he tried hard to ignore. A pit of anger forming in his chest, now thoughts of an event earlier quickly making their way back into his mind.
She doesn't respond immediately, taking her time enjoying her drink as her company talked. The flattery made her attempt to laugh off the words and mindlessly swirling her straw around in the lemonade. "Be careful. Try not to make a fool out of yourself in the process," she joked teasingly as the waiter arrived. Her attention turned to the meal being served to her face could be seen almost glowing with elation. Her own plate was had the duck placed neatly cut and aligned at he center of the dish and the savory aroma from it reminded her what real food tasted like without even having a bite. Being her first real meal on her journey, she was relatively happy with what she saw. Placing down her drink and thanking the waiter as he departed, she spoke some praise, "I must admit your choice of coming here was nicely played." Yet that smile was short lived as she begun to suspect spotting anger in the man's eyes. It was a familiar thing she was able to recognize. It had been nineteen years that she'd look for the signs between her siblings. As sudden as it was Syndra said nothing on the subject and instead clapped her hands together once as her vibrant smile appeared once again. This was both a respectful tribute and to break whatever train of thought that was running through her company's mind, "Thanks for the food!"
Syndra would be the first to take a bite out her food much to her joy. Describing food was never really a strong suit however so we will choose to shift that aside. Point was that the girl was relatively satisfied. Overall unexpected and eventful however it was proving so far that starting this journey was the correct choice for her. "So what's next after this?" she asked to start up another conversation. This could be taken as either as after dinner or after Petalburg and Syndra honestly did not care which he took the statement as. She already had her own plans but she was curious to hear others as well.

He begins to prepare the fish his knife cutting through the tender meat as if it were akin to butter. "And here I thought that ship already sailed." It comes out, but no longer are his words entirely genuine. He's far more focused than he was before eyes glued to the plate the smile on his face hiding something. Something that he'd have to deal with soon despite how unwilling he was. It isn't until the girl claps her hands that he looks up startled, he's about to speak up wondering what exactly that was for, but her words explain her actions. It was something his mom made him do when he was younger, something he'd long since grown out of. He's still a bit off kilter but it'd be rude to not to imitate her actions. And so he also claps albeit a bit lighter than the former and thanks whoever or whatever was out there for the meal. He was pretty agnostic about the whole 'God' thing, however the whole, 'Arceus created all' movement seemed to be the general belief among the world so he's seen.
He doesn't as much decide instead he realizes that he's with a date and so his focus should be on the present as opposed to the future, Anything that wasn't right now could and would wait, and although that glint of annoyance wouldn't disappear entirely it would fade as the conversation continued on, now realizing how lucky he is having made it this far without any major slip ups. "I had a feeling you'd like it." He marks an internal point for himself, choosing a good restaurant despite his hiccup moments prior enjoying his own meal while he tallies. As he takes another bite "After this?" He didn't have much of a plan after dinner seeing as it was getting late, and figured she'd be ready to turn in. However if she wasn't he was more than happy to spend some extra time as the night went on. He knew that due tp the influx of trainers in the town due to the festival the pokemon center would be showing a movie on a big screen this evening in their lounge, and so he decides to offer that. "Man, I thought you'd have had enough of me by now, but if you are still up to it we can catch the movie at the pokemon center. It's some cheesy action-romance flick, but it'll be good for a laugh if you're into it."
He took it in the way Syndra anticipated, hushing her own laugh as he seemed to think of something for the rest of the night on the fly. While the girl did not mind spending more time hanging out, she did have a full schedule for the next day. He spoke of some movie playing at the pokemon center to which her brow rose. She had not heard of this when she had gone there earlier but at the same time she was not listening much when she arrived there to begin with. "Is that right?" she said amidst her musing. She took a bite out of her neatly placed duck as she thought over if she wanted to go. It didn't take long to think it over. Coming to a consensus she looked up with a smile. "Not really," she replied daintily yet not in a mean way.
"I'm not much for cheesy action-romance movies so I would have passed no matter what." It was a nice try and Syndra appreciated the offer if anything. Yet the evening was nearing its darkest hours and the female trainer at least wanted to get a long pleasant sleep before the next morning. Otherwise she was sure she'd oversleep. With all the effort Miles clearly put into it however it would have been bad to leave it at that. "But, tell you what. I am staying at the pokemon center for a few days so you can walk me back," her smile was ever prominent. "Then you can watch it with everyone else at the center if you're still into that type of thing."

Before he realizes the meal is for the most part gone. He was far hungrier than he thought. The girl responds to his offer, and he's not entirely disappointed in truth he was more than a little tired, and would have most likely nodded off sometime during the showing anyways. "Nah I'm far more into walking you back to the center, and catching some sleep myself." A clever smile to match her own. ""So it feels like I'm winning with or without the move to be entirely honest." He needs to get back anyways and prepare for his cave exploration tomorrow anyways, which would no doubt be a great time waster, and opportunity to bond with 3 friends he's met prior. When he saw the board initially he was more than slightly disappointed the woman across from him wasn't in his group in the first place, but it'd be fun nonetheless, and they could share their stories after the event ended.
Without prompting him, the waiter returns with a check and it's holder inside a both a business card and the check itself. He slides the card into his pocket knowing entirely what it was about and leaving his debit card. Still refusing to let any kind of uneasiness play into the date. We should have everyone meet up after the whole cave thing, You know have fun at the beach with everyone share stories. Interested?"
The words were flattering and Syndra herself laughed at that. Again she was not so used to flattery as one might have expected. When at home her brothers would rarely flatter her and only thank her on the off occasion she would help them out of a major problem. That was what siblings did after all. So on that note she finally shook her head, "Walking me back to the pokemon center is a win for you? Good to know," Syndra commented half jokingly. Her own meal was almost finished just as the waiter returned with the check. She watched carefully as Miles paid, seeing the secrecy it had become to do such a task. Unsure if it was mere courtesy or if there was something else in the midst. She decided not too delve too deeply into it. Instead she took another sip of lemonade just as Miles was talking about a meetup.
It reminded her of the exploration event the next day. She didn't go as far as seeing the names of people for her group or others. All she cared about was the group number she was in and then allow the rest of the pieces to fall where they may. So while she did not know too much it was nice to know that Miles had signed up for the tour as well. "Oh yes, the exploration! Guess you signed up for it as well." She smiled once again as she delicately wiped her lips with the napkin near her. While she didn't come from a high class she knew how she was supposed to act, supposedly. "I don't mind meeting up afterwards at the beach but who is this 'everyone'?" She asked somewhat curiously. Syndra was by no means shy. If she could know what she was getting into before getting into it however, then she would. The only one she knew that Miles traveled with was Basil and while she did not expect he didn't meet more people along the journey so far it was hard to believe that he connected with them in a group setting enough to even include them in the term 'everyone'. Just in case, she tried to clarify. "You did mean more than yourself and Basil, right?"

I mean it'd make for a pretty nice end to a fun evening, wouldn't you say?" He's never seen himself as a romantic per-say but he believes a nice walk back to the center would make for a pleasant end so to speak. As he's done so many times before he can't help but chuckle as the conversation continues eyes flickering from her to the check. The man quickly comes back collecting his payment allowing the two to leave whenever at their leisure. "Oh yeah I met a couple of other people who seem pretty cool. You know didn't attack me at first glance. Which is all you can really ask for in this field. Another red haired guy about my age. His name's Evan, and a taller black haired guy, who tries a little too hard to be tough, goes by the name of Noah." He thinks back on the two men remembering his various interactions with the two, and Basil manages to make his way into his thoughts as well.
"Anyways you ready to go, think they'll be closing up shop pretty soon."
Syndra noticed the speed in which the waiter came back for the payment and took it as a sign to leave quickly. So she took a quick final sip of the lemonade before standing up just as Miles asked her if she was prepared to go. She'd nod and think over the previous words. The others that had not attacked him immediately on sight and surprisingly the female recognized the names. "Evan and Noah?" she'd repeat the names to herself as if to jog her memory. She had met a few people but hopefully the names were to the same people. "I met those two separately on my way to Petalburg. Noah is the angry one with the cute Poochyena and Evan is the nice one with the cute swablu, right?" She'd question whimsically as she wandered her way over to the doorway of the restaurant to show she was prepared to go. There was no need to go into detail about her interactions with each of the men but meeting them again wasn't something she'd dislike. Then she thought back on her past meetings with Noah and a hint of a nervous laugh escaped for a half a second. "I don't mind meeting up with everyone again but I don't think Noah would particularly appreciate my company. Plus it seems mostly like a guy bonding moment so wouldn't want to intrude."

"Nah his bark is much worse than his bite I'm willing to bet. Guy's a big softy honestly." A small shrug as they leave the restaurant he catches the waiter's glance a final time on the way out still paying the man little mind. The walk itself is quiet for the most part the pokemon center is barely in sight. "So on a scale of one to ten how much did you enjoy the evening?" He asks casually pulling a topic of interest as they walked. He can feel it getting even cooler outside as they fall further into night the breeze is slightly stronger making the temperature what he'd call perfect. Sadly clouds were beginning to cover the starry sky now he can hear thunder in the distance now. stories of Hoenn's more temperamental weather ringing true as its done for eons now. lightning strikes in the distance the flash not too far off followed by the booming of thunder once again, "Looks like we decided to end the evening at the right time.
"As the lights of the pokemon center come even closer into view he finds himself at a loss not exactly knowing how to end the evening exactly. "So uh...we made it. I uh...yeah, Until next time?" He offers a cheesy smile his thoughts not entirely coherent at this point.
The walk back wasn't a long one. After taking the path once, Syndra could have walked back herself if she wanted to but she kept pace with Miles rather than running ahead. To be honest the walk was fairly pleasant enough with the temperatures lowering to a pleasant chill. At Miles' question she gave a smile, "Oh? I think telling you would ruin it," she said precariously as she looked over towards him. It was only at the crack of thunder did the girl look up and realize that storm clouds were forming. It was unexpected but what was at this point? At the least there was no rain as of yet. By this time they were close enough to the pokemon center that the lights were like a beacon of safety from the upcoming storm. Hoping the next day wouldn't be like this to ruin her parade, Syndra looked over as the male spoke. His hesitation and pausing made the female trainer laugh, "Why don't I give you the number to my pokenav in case you need to reach me?" Without skipping a beat the girl pulled out a slip of paper and a pen from her pockets and wrote down the contact information. She slipped it into Miles' hands before skipping over to the entrance of the Pokemon center. The sliding doors parted for her and she took a final look backwards, "It was fun. Until next time!" and with that she gave a small wave and walked through the doors headed back to her room.
