Beachside. The easiest way to get someone like Syndra to slack off from her attempt at a training regimen and instead frolic around in the sands and sun. The female trainer was not exactly the most airheaded person or the laziest when it came to trying to focus on work related things but there was a secondary goal for her once she had arrived. Why she hadn't thought of this when she was planning there was no easy answer but she managed to slide this one in.
Catching.
All of her pokemon were still in their pokeballs on Syndra's belt as she walked along the edge of the shoreline. Ordinarily she would have had all of them out but keeping track of all her pokemon so far while seeking new ones would be too much for her to handle so she opted to keep them by her side for now. Her team so far was nice and all but it felt rather unbalanced in terms of types. So a new environment to catch was the first thing that came to mind. Since it was summer she had worn shorts and a tank top to be able to mess around in the sun and water without getting too hot. There was no denying that she was messing around slightly with the occasional splashing of water with her feet and skipping in the sands but let there be no mistake that she was looking for new pokemon... in her own way.
wooper♂ - level 08 - damp moveset: water gun, tail whip, mud sport
mm, yaaaawwwwwn. after a long nap off-shore, it's nice to stretch his little legs and get a bit of sunlight. he's never been the most observant fellow, though -- he doesn't notice there's a trainer loitering up the shoreline until a splash from her footfalls startles him. and he, in an act of pure self-defense, sees no option but to let loose at the human with a shocked cry and a spray of water.
a wild wooper has appeared! wooper uses water gun!
Syndra had not realized her fault in disturbing the sleeping wooper until it was too late. The cry of the water type had instantly caused the female to turn heel to look towards the source only to be met with a large shot of water to the face. The surprise of it and force caused the girl to lose her balance and knock backwards onto the ground square on her butt. The waves lapped over her as she sat somewhat stunned at the chain of events. Trying not to get salt water in her eyes she rose her forearm to wipe the water away from her face. Once she had gathered her thoughts she couldn't help but laugh. Truly it was unexpected but it was fun all the same.
She turned to the wooper who had sprayed her and spoke. "Sorry little guy," she said towards it while brandishing her trademark smile. While most people might have tried to catch the thing Syndra had no intention of catching the pokemon at all. Maybe it was due to how many ground types she had encountered lately, but at the same time she couldn't let go of the chance to practice. Unclipping a pokeball from her belt, she called forth her turtwig who once reaching contact with the ocean water shook his body. "Go to sleep for me would you?" she would say to the water type before giving orders to her turtwig, "Use absorb until it faints." Really she should have felt bad but at least she was sure that Turtwig would try to be gentle with it as she continued to look for another pokemon.
Turtwig, grass-type (overgrow) Level 11
Sandile, ground-type (intimidate)
Sandshrew, ground-type (sand rush)
Turtwig used absorb twice on the wooper to knock it out
Have no intention of catching this wooper. Knocking it out for exp and trying to get the next pokemon.
wooper♂ - level 08 - damp moveset: water gun, tail whip, mud sport
the human had fallen over for a moment, and the little wooper takes pride in that. but even though she doesn't seem mad, she's out to get him. w-well, fine! he'll show her who's boss.
wooper is hit by absorb x2! wooper uses water gun on turtwig!
The retaliation wasn't expected and the grass type was soon covered with water from the wooper's water gun. Unlike his trainer the pokemon didn't fall over or anything like that. He took it like a champ and in the end shook his body as if it didn't much bother him, like getting out of a bath. Syndra took notice of the retaliation and with how effective grass type moves were supposed to be it was shocking that the wooper still stood. It made her second guess catching it if only for half a minute but decided to let her Turtwig continue. "Try again Turtwig," she would say as the grass type tried once again to knock out the wooper. He didn't want to hurt it more than he had to and he was sure that his trainer shared this sentiment. Still if it was going to cause more trouble for them then Turtwig was still going to drain it of its energy with more absorbing.

wooper♂ - level 08 - damp moveset: water gun, tail whip, mud sport
the water attacks don't seem to bother the turtwig, he realizes with shock. and he's not feeling so good... when two more absorbs come his way he can't do much about it, and it only takes one to send him splashing down into the water.
wooper is hit by absorb x2! wooper has fainted! capture?
spheal♂ - level 010 - thick fat moveset: defelse curl, powder snow, growl, water gun, rollout, encore
a-ahh! why is swimming so hard? his body isn't much made for it, his mama always said, but he loves the water. so, he tries anyway, though he usually just ends up as he is now: bobbing over the waves, pulled closer and closer to shore by the tide. there's not a whole lot he can do when he bumps into a turtwig that's wading in the water.
When the wooper fell over, Syndra smiled as her turtwig turned back back to her with what looked to be pride on his face. He was going to walk back over to her side when he felt something touch the back of his hind legs. Startled to a jump, he turns around as fast as he could though the water slowed him down. Syndra on the other hand looked over behind her Turtwig to see the spherical blue mass floating in the water. Curiosity sparked her to walk over to the grass type instead and she extended a hand to touch the thing. It did not take her having to touch the thing to know it was a pokemon though and once she recognized it her face grew elated at the sight. "Wow, a spheal!" she exclaimed much to her turtwig's surprise. Now she had more reason to want to touch it as she felt like petting the pokemon. "You're so cute!" she would say attempting to pet the spheal. Obviously she wanted it to join her on her journey but unless it came down to it, she was not going to use force which is why she said nothing to her Turtwig. The grass type stood there silently watching the scene in case he was needed but for now he seemed to know better than to jump in and interfere with Syndra's joy.

Passing the wooper. No attacks to Spheal just friendly petting
spheal♂ - level 010 - thick fat moveset: defelse curl, powder snow, growl, water gun, rollout, encore
there's a human next to the not-so-water-savvy pokemon he's bumped into, and she seems to exclaim something or other at the sight of the bobbing pokemon. is he, victim to the tide, a frightening sight? o-oh, but the human sounds happy, doesn't she? he offers a small noise in reply and flaps his little fins a bit as a mild wave sends him drifting a little ways to the side despite his best efforts. he wonders, can humans swim? maybe this one might be able to teach him a thing or two. something to keep him crashing into the sandy shore every time he gives it a go.
spheal is bobbing about in the water! spheal is looking curiously at syndra!
The small blue pokemon made a small sound at Syndra as it floated about which only spurred the girl into wanting to catch the pokemon more. The movements of the water caused the ball like pokemon to move with it. Syndra noticed the Spheal struggling and she followed the floating pokemon. Of course Syndra could swim but she was not exactly dressed to do so and the water wasn't deep enough for her to demonstrate swimming even if she knew that was what the water type wanted. But she had reached out and grabbed hold of the spheal in her hands to keep it from floating away from her any longer yet still keeping him in the water. After all, what was she going to do if a big wave washed through and took away the cute thing? There might have also been some attempt to pick the spheal up too but it was a moderately heavy pokemon. Heavier than even Turtwig at least, so the green haired trainer only held her hands around the thing. "Hey, do you wanna come with me on my journey?" Syndra asked the pokemon excitedly as she figured this was as good a time as any. It wasn't really the best time but she couldn't help herself. "We'll see some great sights around the region and there's lots of other places with water! It'll be fun."
Turtwig, grass-type (overgrow) Level 12?
Sandile, ground-type (intimidate)
Sandshrew, ground-type (sand rush)
Not attacking spheal. Asking if it wants to join Syndra
spheal♂ - level 010 - thick fat moveset: defelse curl, powder snow, growl, water gun, rollout, encore
okay, so maybe it's little bit of a relief to have the human holding him steady. he;s never been the type to get seasick, but it's plenty hard to focus on any single point when you're bobbing so unevenly on the waves. a... journey? well, he'd argue that he's in the middle of one right now, too. but it's a pretty pathetic one, and maybe he'll do better on hers than he is on his own. he might not even have to know how to swim anymore. it sounds a bit relieving, and he lets her know just that with an assenting quip.
The small sound of what seemed to be an agreement of sorts and Syndra was relatively happy at that. After a bit of petting the pokemon she took out an empty pokeball to make this official. "Thank you. Welcome to the party," the green haired girl said cheerfully as she tapped the ball on the Spheal's head. She waited for that click of assurance then recalled her Turtwig back into his pokeball as well. With the end of the day coming closer, Syndra looked up into the sky with a deep inhale. "One more then I guess I'll call it a day," she said aloud as if towards the sky itself. Regardless she was relatively satisfied with the Spheal joining the party she didn't know if anything else could make it better. The day was already a success.
he's never been able to stay in one place for too long. he can't help it, really -- it's in his bones, his parents always said. if he didn't know how to teleport, he doesn't know what he'd do. he'd been sleeping for most of the day, but when he'd woken up, he hadn't thought much about anything other than lets go somewhere and, in a rather half-awake state, decided to move right then and there. in an efficient little move he was gone from the tree he'd been napping under. unfortunately, he hadn't exactly planned out his destination. it's a surprise when he lands on the beach, waves lapping at his feet as he tries to gather his bearings. he doesn't even notice the human just a fair few feet away.
Almost as if answering Syndra's plea, her thinking nothing could make her excursion for the day better, a glint of light flashed in the sky. The female trainer would have easily missed it if she had not been paying attention to her surroundings. At first she only froze as she looked around to see the yellow pokemon that had suddenly appeared in the water. When she recognized it though, her jaw dropped slightly. It was a lucky find to be sure and she wanted to catch it. The chances of it running away though were relatively high. The awareness of the pokemon didn't seem to pick her up either so it made this a bit more tricky. That said Syndra was confident she could handle this. If anything she could try to fight it quickly before it escaped too as a last resort like the last time.
First step was raising her hands up non-imposingly as she spoke out. "Hello there?" she would say in a softer yet friendly tone. She'd wait for the abra to recognize her before continuing, "Are you lost little guy?" It was better than anything else she could think of to say or ask. She wouldn't approach or anything unless the pokemon felt comfortable with the conversation so far and with her. Abras were known for their shy side after all.
when he finally regains some normal sense of alertness, it's just in time to hear the human speaking. he twitches in surprise, ready to teleport at the first signs of trouble. there's a human, and she's talking to him. nothing particularly agressive, but he considers leaving anyway-- or, actually, why should he? he can defend himself! hes got an attack that most of his siblings don't, so why not use it? the abra stands, one hand balled into a little fist, prepared to strike if the human pushes any limits.
abra is on standby!
Syndra Mawdrey OMFG I FORGOT ABRA IS ON THE RARE LIST FML
The difference in what Syndra expected to happen and what had actually happened puzzled the girl. Sure the pokemon look startled but had stood up as if to confront her on even grounds. But to her knowledge Abra shouldn't know much other than teleport... was it planning something? "I'm not here to fight you," she tried to assure with her hands still raised up. None of her pokemon were out to prove her intentions otherwise which she was grateful for. Not that any of them were particularly brash but it was easier this way for herself to deal with it. "I actually wanna be friends, okay?" There was no lie in that and she wanted to be as placid and sincere as possible. Of course there were no promises to not hurt the thing though because if all else fails she was going to try and fight the pokemon. "Please believe me. If anything I want you to join me on my travels to see the sights around the region."
