It was a nice and sunny day. While Syndra was eager to return back to Oldale to Petalburg, the girl found herself laying in the grass enjoying the pleasant summer breeze. The scent of the morning dew moistened the already humid air and the green haired girl sighed. Next to her was her turtwig also laying there calmly, enjoying the peace and quiet below the trees. Part of her kept her sights on the road out of Littleroot however if only to see the people passing through. She had no interest in jumping the people that passed by for a battle like when she herself first started out but it was nice to see the variety that started. So far however there were few that passed. It wasn't exactly like she was eager to meet anyone and only waved to the passerby that actually noticed she was laying there. "Hmm," the girl hummed in thought. "I wonder if there will be anyone interesting before we head over to Oldale."
It was arguably a nice day, though for Sylvester the weather didn't appeal to him as much as his pokemon. Though he only had one, and spent all of his time with it, Marley did not seem very appeased with being kept indoors. Apparently it was not very different from being inside a pokeball, and so Sylvester set out with his Eevee besides him striding out towards Route 101.
A crisp gale blew by, both Sylvester's and his pokemon's hair dancing with the breeze. Marley seemed to grow anxious, picking up his pace to stay just ahead of Sylvester as they approached a tree—with what appeared to be another trainer with their own pokemon under it. "Fancy that." Perhaps his way with words was a bit off-putting for some, but Sylvester seemed to care little for that. "I suppose you and your pokemon wanted to enjoy the weather today as well?" Sylvester inquired, sparing a gentle smile down towards them.
"Oh?" Syndra said as she noticed the male freshly leaving Littleroot and making his way towards her. Blinking for a second, she sat up and waved. The gust of wind tickled the female's cheek as she looked over the person that now stood before her. More than that she was interested in his pokemon but somehow refrained herself from reaching out and holding it. Instead she showed a friendly smile, overlooking whatever off-putting words that were used, and answered the seemingly harmless question. "Yes, the weather is nice and the peaceful air is a nice change of pace from the city." Her answer was given in a whimsical tone as she casually pet the back of her turtwig off-handedly. The grass type cried out in greeting to the newcomers but overall allowed his trainer to do most of the interacting. "My name's Syndra. Nice to meet you. This your first time or are you a veteran?"
"First time. Marley here doesn't favor the indoors, so I took him along with me for a leisurely stroll among nature." Sylvester knelt down and scratched the back of his Eevee's head, the fluffy ears twitching in response. It cried out in relief, soon enough landing it's gaze on the other pokemon. Marley immediately stepped forward a few paces, curiously staring at the other like-sized pokemon. "My name is Sylvester. Pleasured to make your acquaintance." He stood back up, matching the other trainer and allowing Marley to do as he pleased, which was investigating the other trainer's pokemon.
"So how about you? From the sound of it, you've already hit at least one of the big cities?" He pondered about which one it could be. The other cities and towns were renowned, much more than Littleroot. Everyone had to start somewhere. While he had a wealthy family and a good sense of morality, that didn't matter much when it came to beginning his career as a trainer.
The girl chuckled as Sylvester answered her. It was always nice to meet other first time trainers on their journeys. After all Syndra had only started a few days before so it was all classified as the same time to her. There was a hint of jealousy as the man scratched his own pokemon and wanted to do the same but the Eevee already seemed on the move before she could even ask. So she didn't as the brown pokemon seemed more interested in her own pokemon. The way he greeted her was unexpected though she lowered her head in a reactionary way, "the pleasure is mine." Turtwig on the other hand looked up from his resting position to see the curious Eevee near him. With some reluctance he stood back on his four legs and gave another greeting as he looked over the normal type pokemon. This caught Syndra's attention for a bit as her eyes glanced over to the two until the new question refocused her back on Sylvester. "I have. I actually started my journey a few days ago and made it to Petalburg for the start of the festival," she was proud of that fact yet at the same time ashamed as she remembered the memories of first rushing down this same path. It was filled with people trying to fight newbies and it wasn't a fun time. Remembering that, Syndra figured that she should go back and offer to let him go with in case her terrible experience happened to befall her new friend here. "I should actually be on my way back. I just came back for fun. Wanna come with?"
For the first time in his scarce experience as a trainer, Sylvester seemed to be catching a break. "Come with you?" It was almost as if he didn't believe what was being asked of him. His eyes looked around to the tall grass, almost as if unwilling to leave this place as it felt like home. "That would be nice. How kind of you to offer." His smile only seemed to grow more fervent, wondering just what all that entailed.
"All the way to Petalburg, huh?" That was quite the feat to accomplish within days. It was fortunate for Sylvester, that someone this productive had come back to their roots just to enjoy dome down time. If not for that, he would be stuck trudging around in the tall grass for hours on end, only to end up right back where he started. "You must be a good trainer." It was not hard to admit it, when in light of her achievements, Sylvester amounted to no more than a complete and utter novice.
That stunned expression that Sylvester gave made offering worth it as the girl smiled at the response she received. Did he think he was dreaming? "Yes, all the way to Petalburg. It isn't as far as you think," she chimed in as she placed her hands behind her back innocently. Since she was on her way anyway, she didn't mind taking on Sylvester with her. Hell, she wished that someone else had done this for her when she started out. Maybe someday someone would return the favor to her. Plus it would make the travel less boring at the very least.
Now even though she had admitted that she only started a few days ago, the compliment came to flatter the green haired trainer. It fueled what ego or pride she had but she hardly put much stock in it for now. "Thank you for saying so, but it's really nothing. It won't take us long." She took a few steps forward and waved the man over towards where she was walking to indicate him to follow. It wasn't like she was going to leave him behind but she wanted to make sure he didn't fall too far in his confusion to not actually follow behind her. "Besides if you're lucky, you can still catch the last parts of the festival."
"I hope so." He wasn't able to be certain, and for all Sylvester knew, their idea of what 'far' is could very well vary. Though, at the very least they would enjoy one another as company to distract and occupy themselves along their way. Gesturing for Marley to come towards him, Sylvester took the Eevee in his arms and would keep him there. Marley didn't seem too happy with it, that was, until Sylvester gave it one of the treats he had brought along in his coat pocket.
"A festival?"Sounds like fun. Oddly enough, Sylvester was not the type of person to have much fun. That was asides from enjoying his pokemon, which was just about all he did now besides eat and sleep. Whatever the case, he chased after Syndra as they trekked much further unto Route 101. His days as a Littleroot trainer were coming to an end...
