One of her favorite people in Team Aqua? Zara. One of her least favorite things to do as a member of Team Aqua? Play baby sitter for Zara. The wild child needed to be let free, but at times Nia felt like Zara needed somebody to just pop in and say hello. Not slow her down, not tell her she should slow down, not even to really let Zara know that she was spying... er... keeping tabs? Checking in on her?
Oh who was Nia kidding. It caused three less gray hairs just to know that Zara was still alive. This child would be the end of her. Like a worried mother Nia often sent messages constantly to make sure that Zara was okay and still breathing. Even if it was a one worded answer, as long as it was an answer usually Nia was happy.
Currently she'd heard that Zara was just starting out, much like herself. out onto the routes. Though Zara was only a year younger than Nia, Nia still felt like Zara was a little sister which needed hugged and loved.... or kicked in the face. Either one Nia could do.
Making her way down a part of the route, she sighed down at Aigis, her pawniard and tilted her head. The little dark / steel type was slashing at things and poking dirt clusters with it's blades. She gave a delicate smile and shook her head. "You're adorable Aigis."
As if offended by the statement, the pokemon turned and held the blade toward Nia's face with a fierce glare. Nothing but a smile came from Nia. Aigis just stood, pointing, staring, eventually getting a sweat drop, and then she heaved a sigh of defeat. No matter what, her trainer was going to smile and be polite. The pawniard sighed, poking back at the ground.
Route 101 was a reminder of a simpler time, when Zara used to look at pictures of the routes around Hoenn and imagine herself trekking through them confidently, a team of Pokemon behind her, a world ahead of her. Of course, it was different than she imagined. For the first time in a long time, she felt a little bit small, and the tiny seahorse at her side wasn't helping. Rava was nervous, shaking. Of course one day she'd be a badass Kingdra (like the one her mum had), but in the mean time, Zara had to work for it.
Nia had sent her a text requesting they meet up. The fellow aqua member worried way too much, in Zara's opinion, but at least she had a friend for the road. Not that it was much of a problem to begin with. She tended to make friends as she went - and drop them as she kept going.
She could see the blonde and her Pawniard up ahead a little bit, and Zara lifted a long arm to wave at Nia in what was probably an overdramatic fashion.
"Nia!!"
She bounced towards the girl, Rava following behind her, looking worriedly at the steel type and his sharp blades.

At the sound of Zara's voice, Nia's whole person lit up a shade or two. She turned to face the girl and smiled delightfully at her. The bounce in Zara's step was welcome, and Nia gave a small tilt of her head as she took a few quick steps herself and met Zara the rest of the way for a quick hug. Extending Zara an arm's length away from her, Nia glanced her up and down. A relieved sigh followed. "Well I don't see any broken bones or new bruises. Have you been having fun?" Now that the motherly side of her was finished, Nia gave a playful wink toward Zara.
Aigis gave a raised brow at the small Horsea, namely because... it was so... blue. She wanted to poke the Horsea, but decided against it. Threatening the Horsea sounded like fun, but she decided against it because she knew Nia wouldn't approve. So instead, she gave a grunt and shuffled some dirt clumps the Horsea's way, poking at a few of her own before moving to a spot with more to poke.
The hug was welcomed enthusiastically, and Zara's face broke into a grin as Nia expressed her approval at the girl not having any broken bones.
"I just started," she laughed, "gimme some more credit."
It probably wouldn't take long for her to hurt herself... somehow. She knew Hoenn had volcanoes and mountains, having seen them from far away, and she was fully interested in climbing at the top and absolutely not interested at all in learning proper skill or technique beforehand. Really, it was just a matter of time.
"You know it. My whole... what, one day being a trainer?"
She glanced down appreciatively at Rava, who looked up at her curiously before turning to the Pawniard, which had stolen her attention with a grunt and dirt clumps. Seeing it as an invitation, the horsea popped out a few harmless bubbles in response, ignoring the dirt. She was as impatient as Zara was to get to the beach, wherever that was.
"So, mom, what's the plan? Team Aqua keeping you busy fighting baddies?"
Post by NATALIA HYNES on Jun 18, 2015 19:49:19 GMT
A small giggle came from her and she nodded. "You're right, you're right. I'm not sure why I assumed in one day you would have cuts and bruises." Her mockery was followed by a subtle smile and shrug.
Next came a sigh and her head turned to look at the two pokemon. Adorable. The smile she had expressed was one that couldn't be mistaken for anything other than happiness. "The baddies hm?" She shrugged her shoulders lightly. "I think we're the baddies, personally. But, sadly no, I have no gorey war stories to share just yet. I haven't gotten very far myself just yet. Mostly just route business."
"You seem excited though, and that's good. Don't let that fire die and you'll be fine.... er, don't let that wave die?" She blinked. "I'm not entirely sure what sort of metaphor I was going for there, but it didn't seem Aqua appropriate."
"Whaaaaat?" Zara dragged out the word, looking incredulously at Nia. "No way, girl. Magma are the baddies." So she was easily influenced, but growing up on the high sea, she found absolutely zero issue with Team Aqua's plan. Magma were the ones who were crazy - there was plenty of land already - why did they need anymore?
"Route business," she repeated with a sigh. It sounded boring, but that was part of the job description. As far as jobs went, traveling around the world fighting for more beaches seemed not bad at all, so really, she couldn't complain.
"Mm... don't let... yeah, wave doesn't really work," she replied with a frown, shrugging a moment later and looking back down at the two pokemon. She raised her eyebrows at the Pawniard. She'd never seen that one before. In all honesty, she hadn't seen a lot of pokemon yet at all, mainly only water types from around Pacifidlog; there was a lot to learn.
"So! Nia. Tell me all about the social intricacies of Team Aqua," Zara finally said, linking her arm around the blonde's and stepping forward. She glanced back at Nia over her shoulder, grinning. "I want all the dirty gossip."
Post by NATALIA HYNES on Jun 19, 2015 11:15:15 GMT
Oh, Zara of all people would know that Nia loved a good gossip session or twelve. She couldn't help but poke her nose into everybody's business... sort of. Most of her couldn't care one way or the other about whoever's life and whatever it was they were doing. But sometimes a girl's just gotta get that itch scratched, and most of the time Nia used gossip as an information station; so to speak.
Delaying her mouth by wrapping her arm into the other grunt's arm, she gave a small shrug. "Oh, well, nothing new. I'm confident there are more co-team shenanigans than any of the team cares to admit. Namely between both leaders. Nothing as far as big dangerous plans though. I'm not sure that we're capable of such a thing." She shrugged her shoulders and then looked back to Zara.
"But what about you?" A nudge or three was sent her way. Gentle, and almost ticklish."Any gossip from your angle?"
Zara's eyebrows raised and she looked at Nia curiously as she mentioned drama between the teams. That was bound to happen, but she couldn't help wondering what the details were. It was none of her business at this point.
"Huh," she replied simply, looking back forward at the route - it was a pretty clear day, but she still felt weird being in the middle of a meadow. She hadn't even seen a pond in a couple days now.
A smile tugged at the corner of her lips as Nia asked about her gossip, and she took in a breath, exhaling in a laugh.
"Shit. The usual. I burn all the bridges I cross," she admitted, giving a wink back to Nia. "Nah, it was fun, but... I wanted to keep moving. Plus, Aqua recruited me," she added, nodding solemnly. It gave her something to do, at least, and she couldn't remember the last time she really had something to work towards.
"Have you ever gone to Slateport? That's where I was staying for the past few months. Place stinks like fish."
Post by NATALIA HYNES on Jun 24, 2015 12:14:30 GMT
A shake of her head later and Nia gave an assuring smile and leaned toward Zara a bit, listening as the girl spoke. Same old same old, not holding any ties. For a girl who was so wild, might have been the best if she did so. Better not to tare anybody down into her chaos with her, Nia was sure that's what Zara thought... maybe. Nia was no psychic though.
The talk of Slateport caused Nia to twist her upper lip and curdle her nose a bit. The smell of fish was not Nia's favorite. Instead, she much preferred the smell of the Volcano and the ash, or perhaps a lush forest like the Petalburg Woods. Oh, or cave! And the smell of a beach, with the salt in the air coming straight off the ocean...
Really just anything but fish.
Her eyes found Zara's again and she nodded. "I've been a few times, but only with an escort. Usually something sinister." She smiled, as if talking about robbing people blind of their rich assets - the ones she felt they could spare - was nothing but a cup of tea on a sunny afternoon.
"We've really been up to nothing special, have we?" She turned and looked onto the route. Gorgeous. "Perhaps the leader's loosing his evil flare with all that love in the air." Her eyes crossed for a moment and then she rolled them. "What a rhyme. I didn't even mean to do that." She giggled out.
Zara listened intently to Nia and then giggled, breaking into a laugh a moment later. Love in the air? What sort of leader did they have? The whole idea of love the way most people saw it, as this crazy commitment thing they kept with one person, seemed absolutely crazy. To think that whoever was leading Team Aqua was preoccupied with that shit was really... disappointing.
"Sheesh," she sighed dramatically, looking forward onto the route and not seeing it quite the same way Nia was. It was basically a desert. The lush green trees and the tall grass was pretty cool, but she missed looking out into the ocean and seeing it go and go and go until the horizon jetted up from the sea.
"I'm dying to get some action." And then she laughed again. "both kinds."

A laugh came from her. She knew that itch well. Honestly, Nia wasn't the most innocent woman on the face of the planet. She'd done dark things to try and get answers simply because she was curious and selfish. A delicate smile played her features, one she had to force because her thoughts lead her anywhere but to a smile.
"Well," she distracted herself from her thoughts with conversation. "Hopefully Rory will send something you're way. I can't imagine he wouldn't. He uses grunts like the average person does q-tips." Nia gave a small tilt of her head as she thought about that analogy.
"Besides, taking it slow and training without a mission is always nice. Though... it has been a bit slow recently." She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm sure there will be war soon. No peace lasts forever."
What Nia said sounded promising, but Zara was impatient. She pouted a little bit, thinking to herself; how long would it be until she wasn't just a grunt anymore? Obviously she was still new, but she had four pokemon... but they were all pretty low-leveled. She needed a badge or two at least before she could be considered really formidable.
Nia was patient, but taking it slow had never been Zara's style. She wanted the fast lane. If there was a way to fast-track herself to the top she'd probably do it. But at the same time, she tried to see the other girl's perspective on it; grow alongside your pokemon, and the end result might feel more rewarding.
"Mmm," she grumbled, letting out a sigh a second after. "I guess."
The mention of war sort of caught her off guard. Sometimes she forgot that Magma and Aqua were that opposite each other, that it might actually come to the point where people died for their cause, but for now Zara tried to push those thoughts away.
"You're always a voice of reason," she sighed with a smile, straightening up a bit and forgetting about her previous negative thoughts. "Guess I should cool my jets a bit."
Post by NATALIA HYNES on Jun 27, 2015 16:52:49 GMT
A voice of what? Reason? Was there reasoning in what she said? Most of the time Nia just shared her opinions whether they were wanted or not. She hardly thought of herself as one to reason... or perhaps she was just thinking a bit too much into the subject. Most any lesson Natalia had learned had come from a life full lessons. Experience leads to knowledge, or so she had read on a fortune cookie somewhere.
Or something.
"I hardly think so." Came her answer, but she shrugged. "Maybe an old voice. And maybe just old." She blinked, and then put her hands to her face with a sigh. "I'm almost twenty-five. That's almost fifty. Which is almost a hundred!" She laughed at herself. "As if I'd make it that long..." She shook her head. There was no way. She had to be more positive about getting older! After all, she was positive she wouldn't live to see fifty.
"I hope I die young... is that bad?" She arched a brow looking at Zara. "Young seems so much better than dying old. Getting weaker." She scrunched her nose and frowned. What a terrible idea, and a terrible thought.
For Zara, a smart 10 year old could be the voice of reason. It was probably something she needed more of. Even if Nia wasn't the ultimate role model, she at least worked a bit in grounding Zara, who basically wanted to take off... all the time.
"Twenty-five isn't old!" she protested, half convincing herself, because if twenty-five was old then she was only three years away and the last thing she felt like was old. Was that much really going to change between now and then?
Zara was staring at Nia as if she'd said something horridly offensive.
"I'm gonna get old," she decided suddenly, spitting out the word, "and I'm gonna kick ass." The girl huffed. Her naivety was showing, but at the same time, any time she'd put her mind to it, she was usually successful. Why should getting older be any different? She was fit, healthy, optimistic - she could do it. Nia wasn't any different, in her mind.
"You get stronger as you get older, not weaker," she argued, thinking back to her mother's dragon-taming master, an old man who lived on his own in the wild islands around pacifidlog. "You'd better not croak on me when we're only halfway through all this." [ OOC ]NATALIA HYNES =w=

Why had that logic escaped her? Why had she thought of getting old as getting weak? Pokemon grow in level and they become stronger, why couldn't aging be seen in the same way? Nia gave a weak smile, one that said she'd been defeated. It was a humbling smile - very rare in the case of Natalia Hynes. She nodded and tilted her head to the side.
"No, no. You couldn't be more right. Getting older while on the right path shows that you've grown stronger. With age comes experience and knowledge and with both of those things comes understanding. Once understanding is grasped, I feel one has acquired strength in some way." She heaved a small sigh and then leaned back against a tree. "Thank you for the reminder."
"Sometimes I wonder if with understanding comes forgetfulness." She let out a small laugh. "But then I'm reminded that we all have our times of doubting." She shrugged her shoulders. "I would love to stay young and live forever. Perhaps growing old might not be so bad, if I'm the strongest and sexiest old woman."
