Anxiety overwhelmed Alastor as he set out on the first of many ventures. Alongside him came a trusty Vulpix dubbed Kilala, trotting alongside another quadrapedal named Houndour. Though he had yet come to a suitable name for the Houndour, he entertained the name Duke for a time. But should I name him? It's not like I caught him myself... Already the younger and aspiring trainer found the first of many obstacles set before him; despite high morale earlier this even, he began to feel somber. His Houndour looked up at him almost quizzically, as if somehow attuned to his mood.
But this was a preposterous allegation, and Alastor refused to delude himself any further as to the Pokemon's thoughts or behavioral patterns. It was a means to an end, nothing more.
Garbed in nothing more than a simple black tee and black denim jeans, Alastor crossed a narrow span of tall grass and found... nothing, to his dissatisfaction. Pokemon are said to overflow here, but with all my rotten luck... He refused to dwell on the matter further, and rushed towards the end of the road ahead. Something caught his eye up ahead–a silhouette strutting down the opposing side of the walkway. Oh great, company. As sarcastic as ever, he adamantly strode forward nevertheless. Likely some stranger returning home, or perhaps a trainer eagerly scrutinizing the area for remaining Pokemon.

From afar, Sylvester could see a dark figure approaching him. He didn't dress special, wearing but a black shirt and denim slacks with casual shoes on his feet. However, as they drew closer he began to wonder who they were. Almost as if they were familiar... "Hey there...Alastor." He stood, leaning against a tree for it's shade and support of his back. "This your first time traveling Route 101, by any chance?"
Just like Syndra had helped him, Sylvester wondered if he would be able to help any other beginner trainers from Littleroot to Oldale. It was only right, after all. Or at least Sylvester felt that way, looking towards the distant relative of his. This sure is a surprise.
Sylvester? Really? It had been months since last Alastor had met with his cousin Sylvester, to whom he owed the displeasure of living in his shadow. It hardly seemed like his just deserts–no, in fact it was an unwelcomed turn of events and left a bitter taste in his mouth. He spurned the man set before him. And it was for this sufficient reason that Alastor secretly became a member of infamous Team Magma. To bring about the fruitions of his own agenda, he ambitiously used their coalition to mutual benefit.
Vulpix seemed to recognize Sylvester as well, and seemed to revel in his cousin's presence. His Houndour reacted in contrast with a sharp snort, and seemed to wish nothing more than to pass the vagabond by. It knew him not as cousin to Alastor but as stranger, and rightly bore him no kindness.
"Well, if it isn't Sylvester. Figures you'd be heading back this way, always a step ahead of me, huh? Catch anything interesting out here so far?" Contemplating the repercussions of spilling the beans here and now, he knew it paramount to his mission success that he provide a ruse. Perhaps Sylvester would prove a suitable standard to judge himself by, after all, it would do him good to have a motivational drive to outperform his antithesis in Sylvester. I hate his guts. Such a show off, know-it-all... Sometimes his biased attitude towards Sylvester led to some irrational accusations; he refused to allow these thoughts to boil to the surface. Another façade to obscure his malice and envy.

"Long time no see..." Sylvester too wondered just what kind of pokemon Alastor had. Though because his cousin asked first, Sylvester gave him the courtesy of answering first. "No, but I do have something I want to show you." He reached into his inner coat, retrieving the pokeball containing his Eevee. Releasing it's contents, Marley soon appeared just before Sylvester, proclaiming "Eevee!" in joy as it was free to roam. "I heard something about my Eevee when I went to the pokemart. Just watch..."
Retrieved from his pant pocket were three little candies in separate wrappers. Immediately upon taking them out, his Eevee turned to face Sylvester as he knelt and took them out of their wrappers. "These apparently help a pokemon's growth. Some are known to evol—huh...?!"
Within a moment, Marley briefly flashed adorable eyes at his trainer. However, that wasn't what caught Sylvester's attention, no—it was the gleaming white hue that eminated from Marley after devouring all three of the rare candies. "I didn't think it would..." He wondered curiously what his Eevee was apparently evolving into. "Evolve from that." He looked to his cousin, and then back to his pokemon.
Within a few short moments, the form of his pokemon changed, and with some more time, it's white glow faded. What stood before him was something new—so he pulled out his pokedex and gave it a scan. "Sylveon, the intertwining pokemon. Known only to evolve from an Eevee with a fairy type move." Pocketing his device, Sylvester held his hand out towards his pokemon. "Marley...?"
It chimed in glee "Syl, Syl!" He almost thought the pokemon meant himself, yet knowing better he smiled—Marley was still there, and even cuter than before as his ribbon began to shake his hand like an appendage. "Wow...I don't even know what to make of this." In awe, Sylvester simply pulled the pokemon closer and pet it. "I suppose it doesn't count as a capture, but I guess I have a new pokemon now?" He directed this towards Alastor, him and his pokemon giving a look back towards him.
"Do you have a pokemon yet?" He wondered anxiously to himself.
And here I thought maybe I was being biased and irrational when I called him a show off...Tch. Obviously Alastor would not be treacherously wandering into the tall grass without a Pokemon of his own, but perhaps Sylvester was blind to the Vulpix and the Houndour pacing just a step behind Alastor. Holding out his arms, the Vulpix leapt into his embrace and he dipped a hand into its fur. The Houndour had only eyes for the oddly decorated Sylveon before them, having only been moments before a standard Eevee. Houndour snorted in response and gave it no more acknowledgment thereafter. It gnawed at Alastor's boots lightly, ushering him to move onward. But Alastor wasn't without his manners.
"Other than Kilala and my Houndour, I've got nothing. I'm looking for more, though." Catching up with Sylvester had turned out more of an eyesore than anything, though he betrayed none of this to Sylvester. He wondered how Sylvester might react if he had a whiff of knowledge about his affiliation with Team Magma, and quickly realized he was sternly concentrating on Sylvester with a provoking stare. Snap out of it.
"I must say, I'm jealous you've evolved one of your Pokemon so early. Must be those candies." Dodging any effort to praise Sylvester's training expertise, he proceeded to iterate on how he had yet to clear Route 101 and would definitely appreciate any efforts in reaching the opposite side of Route 101. Alastor fantasized about the Pokemon on farther outlying Routes, and hoped to expediently cross whatever obstacles were set before him. He was doom-driven towards this end.

"Yeah, that really was something." He could not doubt what happened, and it was actually very exhilarating for Sylvester. Now that Sylveon seemed to let go of him, Sylvester felt obliged to finally get a move on with his plans. "So, you want to go to the next town, or what?" He smiled lightly with one side of his lips, gesturing for him to follow, along with Sylveon as well.
"Oldale town is not very far from here. After that is Route 103, which will take us to Petalburg City. That's where the first gym is, if you didn't know." Sylvester couldn't help but feel like he was getting obnoxious, so he decided to direct their discussion back towards Alastor's pokemon. "So, a Houndour huh? I've always wanted one of them." It was probably one of the coolest pokemon Sylvester knew of. With Marley the Sylveon now walking at his side, Sylvester hoped Alastor would not lag behind. It may not have been a long way there, but Sylvester did not want to waste time in this area. He was much too excited to venture further on, and see what other kinds of pokemon grazed the other areas of Hoenn region.
"Yeah, got him off a trade using some weird bug type I caught around here somewhere. I think I'm going to name him Daemond." He reached for Daemond's Poke Ball and tapped his index finger gently against the button, forcing Houndour to relax inside the Poke Ball and ease the rabblerouser's mood. Team Magma breeds these mean, don't they? It was quite obvious to Alastor this Houndour had an attitude problem. Are we nearly there yet?
"I have a map, but I figured I could wing it to Oldale. Kept running into wild Pokemon on the way. This place is full of impressive Pokemon." Keeping a measured pace with Sylvester, Kilala cooed to the Sylveon from Al's embrace. It seemed to lust for its attention, but Alastor quickly rubbed its fur through with deft fingers. Kilala seemed to settle down and accept the fact he would soon arrive at Oldale Town; here Kilala and the Sylveon could play together with all the spare time in the world.
"Is that Oldale Town up ahead? Looks kind of... puny." Alastor was expecting a major city, but what they found seemed bereft of anything more than bare minimum retailers. Most weren't for Pokemon trainers either, though a PokeMart and PokeCenter were available to render their services to patrons old and new. I don't have to stay long.
Alastor need only pay a few passing hours, perhaps a couple of days, before setting out through the next Route. He believed Sylvester had mentioned it was Route 103, but Alastor wondered how this could possibly be true and where Route 102 was located. "Thanks for the tour, you should take me to catch some wild Pokemon sometime. I need to build a stronger team. 'Til then!" He was at his threshold for tolerating his cousin's presence, but Alastor was certain this wouldn't be the last he saw of Sylvester.

"Yeah, it wasn't as big as I thought it would be either. At least it has more to offer than Littleroot." He knew Alastor must have been eager to get a move on, as he wasn't very keen on them staying together for much longer. He even seized his Houndour back into it's pokeball, having been holding his Vulpix—Kilala, as he dubbed it.
"Well aright then, I leave you to it. See you around, cousin." He gave a reassuring nod waywards towards Alastor, who was now going off on his own. Sylvester did just the same, making his waytowards Toute 103, where he could then proceed towards Petalburg City. The festival there had just about ended, so he decided to let that go unsaid. Perhaps he would be more fortunate than Sylvester, already having more pokemon than himself. I guess that means I need to get a move on and catch some more pokemon now..."
