'Past' and 'Future', two separate entities that never meet, they run opposite to each other but always conflict. He stands at the edge of town full of mixed feelings a need to move on. The past few days have been rough on him, but through these trials he's gotten a fair bit stronger. He now has a team of pokemon beside him, a team that netted him his first gym badge. He's seen more, met and lost people alike, he has no idea where this journey will take him but at the end of the day he can do nothing but move forward. Even if moving forward leads him back to where he began in the first place. He doesn't need to ask where the next gym is, it's in his hometown after all. Rustboro city, 'Where science and nature meet' so they say at least.
He's anxiety heightens but it wont stop him. The festival is all but finished entirely, booths and stands being packed away signaling an end to the summer blowout. People continue to pack away their wares as he stands there looking out at the sea hands buried deep in his pockets. The egg in his bag shuffles ever so slightly a sign the pokemon was about to hatch. After all he'd been through with the egg it isn't too surprising.
Just as he's about to move on he hears footsteps behind him familiar green hair catches the corner of his eye. In the rush of events he's almost forgotten about Syndra. He flashes the woman a small smile a bit more reserved than usual. "Hey." He know he seems different, because he is a little different now. His journey was beginning to shape him in ways he couldn't have expected. Perhaps it's just a trick of the light, daresay he's beginning to look a little bit more like a trainer. "I figured we'd be running into each other soon, call it a hunch."
Syndra herself was simply wandering around, taking in the sights of what was left of the festival as it came to a close. After the exploration event and her training with her pokemon, she was about ready to move on in her travels. It was simply coincidence or some random luck that the green haired girl would be able to run into Miles again so soon. At first she was just going to surprise him but decided against it as she thought of the egg being held in her arms. The egg was warmer now than it had been previously and Syndra contributed that to the sunny and warm atmosphere that the beach created, so she was being extremely more cautious while carrying the egg now. Just in case. Instead it was the male that noticed her and interacted with her first which while slightly disappointing was accepted by the green haired girl. "Hi there," she'd say with the same smile as usual. The mild change in attitude or mood wasn't unnoticed by the perceptive young woman but she wouldn't make any outward note of it.
The words he said however wouldn't be so lucky, "what's that supposed to mean? There was no way you could have known I would have been here at this hour." She said this half jokingly with the other half being serious as even Syndra didn't plan on passing by this particular location at this time. She just went wherever she wanted whenever which was part of her charm in some ways. That said his words didn't actually bother her much if at all. "Well whatever. How was your exploration?"

Her voice brings a small smile to his person. He turns halfway to meet her eyes His own egg sticking out of his bag ever so slightly pulsating every so often. In her whimsical way she questions him and he can only laugh until she decides to drop the question. "I just figured it'd been a couple of days so I'd be running into you sooner or later." She asks about his exploration his lips curving into a frown, the topic being something he's still not entirely over. He doesn't know how to describe it in a word unwelcome memories coming to mind. He rubs his head where Noah headbutted him the bruising having gone down significantly in the last two or three days. " It was... eventful... He sighs having decided on a word, "Yours?" He asks casually knowing hers turned out better than his own, after all no one could have botched up a walk through a cave like his own group. That much was fact.
"You got an egg too, mine seems pretty close to hatching." He pulls the large incubator out of his bag showing his own egg, the pokemon inside still unknwon to the trainer. Judging by its color he guessed it was a grass type or something of the sort. "Anyways you caught me on my way out of town I beat the leader earlier this morning, and I was heading up to Rustboro." There's disdain for the city, or more so an unwillingness, but he has to go sooner or later, he figures it may as well be sooner.
Clearly the exploration topic hit a sore spot with Miles. Syndra tilted her head to display her curious confusion but said nothing more to pry into the subject. Instead the conversation deflected into her own exploration. "Ah, it was eventful too? I guess that's the right word," she said in an unsure yet chipper tone. Little did she know about Miles' group having the more eventful exploration, her's being rather tame in comparison. In fact it was pretty tame altogether but Syndra was trying to overlook that fact. Soon enough Miles would point out the egg in her arms and reveal his own hidden in his bag. She had her own incubator of sorts but it felt more impersonal than just holding the egg in her arms. The staff at the pokemon center stated it was alright as long as it remained warm and the green haired girl fulfilled that requirement.
Now despite Syndra's research on pokemon she didn't know much on eggs. Looking at the red haired man's and her own, she knew that at the least it wasn't the same pokemon. "I think mine is a fire type. I'm warming it up but the egg seems hotter than myself sometimes," she admitted as she held out her egg a bit more to display the pattern on it. "I was thinking of leaving town too... wait you said you beat the gym leader here?" she said curiously. "I was thinking on it but I'm not sure if my pokemon are ready... care to have a practice battle with me?"

"A battle?" He questions as she finishes, It makes sense after all if he managed to beat the gym leader with two pokemon he'd make a great test to see if she was ready for her first major battle. He's been foregoing moving onward so this would make a good distraction, not to mention spending time with Syndra was never not fun. "Are you Challenging me Ms. Syndra?" His voice has a playful edge to it, "Why I thought you'd never ask." They've battled once prior a battle he had to forfeit on account of time, now there was no time constraint In fact it's his only loss thus far, and he's perhaps more eager than he should be for a rematch. He places the incubation kit, and the egg by proxy back in his bag before stepping back. This area where dirt met sand would do for a battle field, then again when you're a trainer any place made do for a battle field. "I only used two pokemon for the gym leader, it honestly wasn't that difficult." A quick preface to the match, "The gym leader however used three so let's make it a three on three. Sound good." He calls across the makeshift field figuring if she wanted to practice for the gym it'd be best to mimic the gym's rules.
He doesn't exactly know which pokemon to use, other than one who always seems more than willing to fight. "Braev, you're up!" He calls the blade pokemon out of its pokeball immediately falling into a stance. Yellow eyes focused on his opponent wondering what exactly this fight would offer the pokemon. "It's a practice battle." He warns the steel type code for not going overboard the pokemon had Scar-like tendencies at times, the difference being the trainer would be sure to keep his pokemon under control. "I'll let you take the first move this time around."
The expression the female trainer wore was deceptive in that she appeared carefree about this battle. In actuality she was relatively serious and was analyzing the situation. She nodded to the declarations of the rules and stood by for the battle to begin. On her belt were the pokeballs that held her current traveling companions and her confidence in battling was higher than it had been when she first started out. That said, she acknowledged that she only won the last battle between them due to Miles forfeiting. Yet the sight of the red pokemon caught Syndra a bit off guard. She didn't expect to fight anything like that initially at all. Her own pokemon looked like babies comparatively and it made her wonder how Miles came across such a pokemon. It made sense to her how the other trainer managed to get the first badge, with ease apparently, but for now she wouldn't worry about things like that. Taking the first pokeball on her belt, she'd toss it out onto the spontaneously created battlefield to reveal the grassy turtle on the field. "Turtwig will be my first," she said with some pep.
In retrospect the typing might have made the first choice a bad decision but she'd worry about that later. Nothing she had at the moment was really any better so going with her strongest made a bit more sense then the others. "Withdraw and then Razor Leaf," she ordered with the plan of forcing the enemy to go to them rather than the other way around. This way they could focus on a defensive game with less holes rather than going in and being ambushed blindly. The pokemon said its name with strength as its exterior seemed to overlay with some harder substance. At the same time the grass on his back shed off and floated downwards in a lofty fashion only to glint for a split second to rush forward to attack the red steel pokemon.

Her first pokemon is one he knows, the one he'd battled before not too long ago. As the woman calls he wastes no time taking the offensive. "You know just cause I may have a thing for you doesn't mean I'll go easy!" He calls to the trainer before ordering his own pokemon on the offensive, "Bullet Punch twice blast throughout the razor leaf." The blade pokemon wastes no time dashing forward the leaves attacking dealing minor amount of damage to the blade pokemon's exterior. It's pincers growing harder as it attempts to strike the grass pokemon twice over swinging at the pokemon.
Perhaps he was playing to rough, but then again the blade pokemon was one of his youngest and weakest when comparing it to the rest of his team, and it needed the experience. He just hopes the girl wont look at him too badly for this.
The bullet punches were not the moves she was expecting but it did what she wanted which was get the Scizor close to her Turtwig rather than the other way around. For now she was too concentrated on trying to win the battle to even acknowledge Miles' flirting with even a shake of a head. Instead she spoke, "strengthen your defenses again then go for a tackle." At this point what else could she do? At such a close range, Razor leaf wasn't going to be much more effective than confetti at a teenager's birthday party. The grass type didn't hesitate in completing the order as he held fast through the pummeling and had its hide grow thicker to be harder to penetrate to a point to hurt him too much. At the same time he would run forward in an attempt to tackle the bug to the ground

The first round was about over, Syndra's loss was a simple product of bad typing The steel bug resisting literally every thing the small tortoise could throw at it. It could only defend until the onslaught of fists took it apart slowly. Miles wasn't into pounding away needlessly into it's back waiting for it to crack metaphorically. And for the reason he speaks, "Scizor you're done." His eyes fall to Syndra now. There's no cockiness in his voice. "Do you want to continue this or is this round over?" He asks neutrally now. The woman is smart and knows what would happen if this continued. As such he prepares his next pokeball waiting for the girl to call it all the while.
He was right. Syndra had known that she made a bad call and it made her realize what she needed to do in the future. As much as it might have pained her the girl knew she would likely have to concede this round away. Turtwig was still doing fine as defensively the turtle had prepared itself but if she couldn't deal the necessary damage what was the point? Still, Miles' recalled his Scizor back which rubbed her the wrong way but gave her the indication that this is where she should recall her turtwig. "Turtwig return," her voice wasn't full of cheer or anger but more solemn thought. This time it would be her choice in calling something out first so there wasn't much to think on at this point. She took another pokeball this time as she placed Turtwig's pokeball back on the belt, throwing the new one to reveal the small rodent that was Sandshrew.
The ground type didn't look as lackadaisical as the previous grass type had, in fact looking rather irritable and cocky. For now that shouldn't matter. The Sandshrew wasn't going to hastily attack, it was better trained than that. Instead Syndra waited for Miles as she thought over the combinations of moves that her Sandshrew had.

She concede's the first round, calling Turtwig back and instead Sandshrew now taking center field. This would be a good time to try that pokemon he'd gotten from Will not too long ago. The pokeball expands in his hand before he prepares to throw it out. There's no more smack talk instead she's gotten serious and by proxy so has he. The pokeball flies releasing the water type pokemon, sadly it had no water type moves or none yet at least. The water otter was more than ready to fight however looking a bit mischievous as he takes the field against the Sandshew. "I'll start it off. Sonic Boom and follow up with a Quick Attack." The trainer calls the moves and buizel follows lashing a tail at the ground type pokemon a wave of white energy heading for it before the pokemon dashes forward itself to thit the ground type pokemon.
A water type was called and it figures that a type advantage would be used here. The attacks that were called out however where not what she expected. There were no water moves. Still that worked out for now and the green haired girl already knew how to respond. "Counter that Sonicboom with Sand-attack," she said quickly to which resulted in a short reactionary time of the ground type swiping her small tail lengthwise across the ground to throw up a bunch of sand to collide with the Sonicboom. The attack hit the sand and caused the lump of sand to scatter into a puff which obscured the field for awhile. "Roll over that quick-attack with Rollout!" That move was still coming but Syndra was going to take advantage of this close combat fighting. Rollout got stronger the more it is used so she planned to use it this entire fight, the yellow pokemon tucking into a ball and rolling forward. The sting of pain from the quick attack reached the ground type but as it kept rolling, it had ignored this.
Turtwig, grass-type (overgrow)
Sandile, ground-type (intimidate)
Sandshrew, ground-type (sand rush) Level 10
Spheal, water/ice-type (thick fat)
Sandshrew intercepted Sonicboom with Sand-attack to cloud the battlefield then used rollout.

The quick attack connects, but not without the otter pokemon taking some damage of his own. As the rollout connects the otter skids on the ground rolling back into an upright position as the attack continued. "Follow up with another quick attack and sonicboom try and knock it out of the ball!" His voice is hard still coming up with a solid plan of how to deal with ground type pokemon. Water gun would have been more than handy, but sometimes you had to make due with what you had, and he didn't have a water gun quite yet. The the buizel takes the momentum from the fall and attempts to dash into the rollout again following up with another sonic boom. The Water type would take some damage this time around, but if he was lucky it'd knock the enemy out of its attack.
There was only one reason Syndra could imagine as to why Miles kept ordering the same moves that weren't water attacks, that being that this pokemon knew none as of this moment. If that was the case then dealing with the Buizel wasn't going to be too hard. Miles gave his orders and while it was a good idea, Syndra wasn't going to make that effort easy. "Combine Rollout and rapid spin to spin faster and deflect those attacks," she said in response. The sandshrew said nothing but remained in its curled up position as she turned to attack the Buizel again. The attacks came and hit the ground type but since the momentum of the rollout with the rapid spin helping to not allow the attacks to pinpoint any weaknesses, Sandshrew still remained in the balled up form. Again attempting to roll over the Buizel. "If you don't have any other ideas to fight against Sandshrew, then maybe she should go on to our tiebreaker?" Syndra called out loudly as a suggestion. Her hand moved to the next pokeball on her belt to drop it next to her, revealing her last pokemon in training: Spheal. The round blue pokemon gave a cute little noise on being called out.
Turtwig, grass-type (overgrow)
Sandile, ground-type (intimidate)
Sandshrew, ground-type (sand rush) Level 10
Spheal, water/ice-type (thick fat)
Took the two attacks and attacked back with Rollout/Rapid Spin combination

Luck wasn't on her side. She's smart to call it there and he's smart to accept watching Buizel hit the ground again he calls the pokemon back to its pokeball thanking it for a job well done. "Good call." Her last pokemon is one he's familiar with a Hoenn pokemon that was more commonly found around Mossdeep if he remembers correctly. It was a water type and thus a terrible matchup for what came next. He drops his own pokeball A large electrified Lizard appearing beside him now. He doesn't choose to counter he's using the pokemon he planned to use during the gym challenge if only to better compare her chances. At the point he feels if she were to battle Norman as he did She'd win no questions asked he himself having beat the leader with only two pokemon the third wasn't needed. The Lizard steps forward ready to fight the trainer and the pokemon eyeing the girl. This one wouldn't last long that was certain, but still every pokemon deserved a fighting chance. "You have the first move!" He calls across the field. Waiting on the woman to give her command.
