andrea just managed to maintain her facade. but with some difficulty. snivy managed the task of feigning inexperience as well, eyes sharp as he focused upon the creature. just before it struck, the grass-type managed to turn slightly to offer up his own weakest areas -stumbling back repeatedly. it stung this time, and he felt himself being worn down. in all honestly, the shroomish's body was pretty solid - and there was some spirit behind each tackle.
"snivy!"
it was time to strike back. even if it was only a little.
"use wrap!"
the snivy moved swiftly enough, intending to wrap its slim body around the younger grass-type and squeeze. it was a flimsy attack, and wouldn't do much. but, it honestly felt good to actually be able to legitimately strike back. he wouldn't apply as much pressure as he could, of course. he was meant to lose this match, after all.
"snivy!"
"that's the spirit, boy! give 'em a good squeeze!"

'Good, she's finally having her pokemon man an effort to fight back.' Though, the news wasn't as great as it could have been, as Daisy was now being thoroughly constricted by the opposing Snivy. With a few squirms and nigh crying, Sylvester knew he had to give his pokemon some commands before it collapsed. Though, fortunately Daisy began to spew spores onto the opposing pokemon. While they weren't likely that effective against a fellow grass type, they would at least serve a distraction.
"Daisy, jump and Tackle Snivy down into the ground!" Almost as if a light bulb flashed above her head, Daisy leaned down and propelled herself, along with Andrea's Snivy into the air. With gravity working it's magic, she tilted around to have her weight land on Snivy's head, which would be pinned against the ground in a most uncomfortable manner. "Once you're free of Snivy's grip, hit'em with another Tackle!"
Effect Spore - Lv.05 - Minorly Injured Shroomish used Tackle! Shroomish used Tackle!
the young snivy clung onto the shroomish, and a small pained noise escaped him as he met the ground with some force. bewildered at first, the next tackle was good enough to knock him out completely. a dazed look was on his face as his body went limp and he finally released the plump creature.
"huh," andrea huffed.
she produced her capsule once her pokemon had fainted, a small scowl forming.
"ya got lucky, yeah?"
having returned the grass-type to his pokeball, she quickly replaced him with her froakie. the water-type entered the field, his face twisting to form an egotistical sneer as he eyed his foe. both trainer and pokemon made no move to strike, andrea merely grinning as she allowed herself to get back into the competitive mood.
"yer free ta make the first move, sylvester."
"fro!"

Swiftly returning his Shroomish to it's pokeball after the victory was secured, Sylvester quickly lobbed out another in synchronization with Andrea's own choice of pokemon. Wondering just how powerful the adversary was, he did not hesitate to resume the battle, especially given what Andrea had insisted upon. "Marley, start things up with a head-on tackle." Right away the pokemon began to bolt towards his opponent, almost in a reckless manner.
"If they resist, hurt'em with a second tackle." This was likely to be another lengthy battle, though perhaps it would carry more merit with it. With further inspection of her pokemon after retrieving his pokedex, it was obvious Froakie was a rare and valuable pokemon with reason. Even Sylvester had to admit that having one on his team would be cool.
startled by its arrival, andrea resisted the urge to growl in annoyance. when froakie was hit, even he was startled by the absolute power behind it.
"fro!"
launched backward, he tumbled roughly, ending up on his back. he managed to avoid the second coming, eyes squinted as he realized that the pink pokemon was indeed strong. andrea produced a pokedex, squinting her eyes before releasing a groan as she eyed its contents.
"holy shit, a fairy-type," she muttered, rubbing at her forehead. "no wonder. this thing's overpowered."
froakie launched a series of ice beams afterward, wanting nothing more than to ward away the fairy-type pokemon as he quickly realized he was at a disadvantage.

Noticing that Andrea was quite surprised with Sylveon, he had almost forgotten that she only knew Marley back when he was still an Eevee. With no time left to dwell on it, however, Sylvester made sure he would not waste precious moments at the expense of his pokemon—most of all Marley during this battle.
"Dodge the first ice beam!" While Sylveon managed to evade the incoming ray of glacial energy, speeding down the field was another one headed right where Sylveon was to land—making quite an impact. "Syl!" Marley cried out in pain, shaking off the attack well enough for Sylvester and his pokemon to resume the battle. "Marley, give it another serving of your best two tackles yet!"

andrea's eyebrow twitched - because - of course this shit would happen. massaging her brow, she could only release a discontented noise as her froakie fell to the neat little rows of tackles that descended upon him. he released a sigh, consciousness slipping away from his grasp as he remained limp upon the ground. instead of venting her frustration at her loss, she smiled. it was a surprisingly warm one.
"ya surprise me, sylvester. yer good," she said.
she looked him in the eyes to alert him to the fact that she wasn't bullshitting. andrea legitimately meant those words - which were rarely ever spoken from the heart.
she liked sylvester.
he had a good heart. strong pokemon whom had synced very well with him within a short period of time. and he was a pretty chill guy.
"spearow!"
"use fury attack!"
the spearow lunged forward, his beak moving to damage the fairy type as a caw escaped him.

It was nice to be praised, allowing Sylvester to feel good about himself for once. Though, as the other pokemon of Andrea's was switched in, Sylvester went back to focusing intently on their match. "Marley don't dodge, just hit them back with your tackle!"
However, it was easy to tell that his Sylveon was thoroughly exhausted. As the opposing Spearow came in and began launching it's series of attacks, Marley only fought back with a first tackle. Nothing on Marley's side of the battle followed after, thanks to the swift barrage of the Spearow's Fury Attack. Well, it certainly was furious...and infuriating.
"Oh man..." Sylvester said as he moved over to Marley's side. The pokemon, by the end of the enemy Spearow's attacks, was laying their limp. Scooping the pokemon up in his arms, he was happy to see the eyes of his Sylveon open for a moment to look at him, their paw lightly patting his nose. "You fought well, Marley, thank you. Rest easy for now." With a small cry of joy in response, the Sylveon was brought back into it's pokeball. Taking a stand, Sylvester made his way towards Andrea. "Thanks, it was a good match. Probably my best, since I finally almost won for a change."
Standing next to Andrea by now, he wondered about her other pokemon that she had yet to battle him with. "So, how have the rest of your pokemon been? Any new ones I should know about?" It was fairly obvious he didn't want to leave just yet, instead opting to converse with Andrea for a time.
she offered her arm as a perch and spearow eagerly took advantage, settling himself comfortably upon the sturdy limb. his claws carefully wrapped themselves around the appendage, the bird's grip surprisingly gentle as he proceeded to fold his wings and preen himself.
"imma get ya a treat when we get back," she promised.
"spear!"
"haha!"
she grinned at sylvester as he requested information regarding her collection.
"yeah. i got a new addition."
gingerly petting her flying-type with a single finger, she continued to speak.
"a chikorita. and i possibly got a absol on the way if i can make my payments on time," she continued.
"spear!"
the pokemon flapped his wings, released andrea, and moved to settle upon sylvester's shoulder.
"huh, guess he likes ya, sylvester," the girl drawled.

"Yeah? I just hope he doesn't ruin that by defecating on me." Allowing only a subtle flinch when the bird flocked over to him, Sylvester simply let it do as pleased. He would've tried to pet it, but birds liked to peck and nip at things like fingers when they reached out towards them. Sylvester wasn't going to risk anything like that. Instead he simply resumed his subtle smile and spoke further.
"Wow, nice. Chikorita was one of the first pokemon I saw when at Professor Birch's lab. That's what he had in the playpen with my Eevee." He almost wondered if they were one and the same, but sadly the Chikorita wouldn't recognize Marley now that he had evolved into a Sylveon. "So, have you challenged the Petalburg City gym yet?" A question that provoked genuine curiosity in the male trainer. He was beginning to feel ready for the challenge...perhaps Andrea could shed some light on that for him?

"the gym?"
andrea grinned as the male mentioned the official establishment.
"hell yeah, i did!"
she dug around in her pack and produced a simple auburn case before flicking it open. there, resting within the velvet-lined interior, was her prize.
"cool, ain't it?"
andrea then began to rattle off information detailing the gym, its leader, and the pokemon he used.
"he's gotta sentret, a litleo and a fuckin' slakoath. it was easy, my man."
she made a small gesture.
"my pancham one-shot the sentret. took out the litleo next. got put to sleep by the slakoath but my luxio handled the rest. none of my pokemon fainted. i suggest fighting-types, if ya want ta get in and out."
andrea gestured again. only then was it clear that she wanted spearow to return to her shoulder. the pokemon obeyed somewhat reluctantly, taking advantage of the offered arm once more.
"ya about ta head there, sylvester? can i get yer contact info, first?"

Listening all the while, Sylvester couldn't help but stare at the badge. Of course, if he fought her pokemon and did that well, maybe this was a good sign? Although, there was the fact that he didn't battle the pokemon she spoke of looming over him, leaving a subtle blemish on his confidence. "Yeah, now that I see you've got one I think I have to go challenge him right about now." Listening on further, she gave advice on what kind of pokemon to use against Petalburg City's gym leader—Norman.
"Yeah? I've got just the pokemon for him, then. I'll just have to start training them on the way back to Petalburg." Sound advice, and a sound plan were what gave him the necessary determination to challenge the gym leader now. Reaching in for his pokenav, Sylvester held it out to Andrea so that she could get his contact information. "We'll have to battle again sometime after we get some badges. Don't slack off too much, or I can't promise you'll beat me come the next time." He laughed lightly, though she would still likely be ahead of him. Though, Sylvester looked forward to the time and training it would take him to compete with Andrea's current progress. She was an excellent pokemon trainer, even if her official occupation and title was that of a coordinator. That much he knew.
"Well...I'd like to stick around and chat longer, but I'd like even more to get on my way back to Petalburg. Norman's badge is waiting for me, and I don't want to caught empty-handed the next time we meet. Feel free to contact me at any hour. Take care until next time." Turning around and hoisting his backpack up over his shoulders to get more comfortable for the long trek, Sylvester through a hand over his shoulder in a waving gesture back towards Andrea. He had made another good friend, one whom he could admire.
