It felt as though it had been awhile since Sylvester had gotten his Torchic egg, which was why he now found himself on the far outskirts of Petalburg City with all of his pokemon gear on his person—far enough from the city, as well as the pokemon of the wild. Setting up a small bundle of sticks, he made some kindling out of the small trees surrounding the area by shaving off their thin bark with his pocket knife. Using a lighter to get his small fire started, it didn't take long as he blew gently on the embers for the wood to catch aflame.
Positioning a square stone near it so that he could be seated very closely to the fire, Sylvester reached into his backpack and retrieved the bright orange pokemon egg from within the bundles of his fresh clothing. Caressing it in his arms, Sylvester leaned in as closely as he could to allow it's warmth to reach the insides of the egg. However, as he waited he grew bored, wondering just when and if the little guy inside would even hatch today, if not soon. Trying to think of other things, Sylvester began to read through the thorough data within his pokedex to help pass the time as he waited.

Reading up on how his Torchic would come to evolve into a dual typed pokemon, Sylvester grew even more eager to help his egg along the path of hatching. Wondering about how he could help it, the option to place the egg in the fire crossed his mind. 'That's too risky...if I kill the baby Torchic, not only would I feel terrible, but Id have wasted all my money. Not to mention all the other trainers ridiculing me about it. Maybe I'll just introduce the egg to...?'
Placing the egg beside the stones guarding the surrounding area of grass from the fire, Sylvester reached into his backpack and retrieved the pokeball containing his first ever pokemon. Releasing Marley from his confines, he swiftly directed his pokemon towards the egg. "Marley, I need your help. This is a pokemon egg and I really want it to hatch. It's been awhile, and I've neglected to give it much attention so far. Will you huddle next to it for me, to keep it warm?"
Noticing that the time had already flew past by the positioning of the sun, Sylvester looked at his watch to figure out that it was already 3:00PM. In another few hours, the day would gradually get darker—and Sylvester should be on his way home...

Yet another two hours passed with no luck, the sun finally making it's descent unto the horizon. Sylvester's egg had yet to hatch, though every once in awhile his Sylveon seemed shocked with the egg, looking over to see Marley nudging the egg as if something was the matter with it. "Something wrong, Marley?" His pokemon responded with a sharp "Syl!", gently poking the egg with it's right paw. Once they realized there was no response, Marley went back to cuddling with the egg next to the fire. "I really do hope I get to see my new pokemon soon. Our luck out in the wild just doesn't seem to be enough."
Passing the time by cooking marshmallows over the fire for him and his pokemon, Sylvester had ventured out before nightfall to gather more firewood and kindling. After an hour's time, he actually had to use a flashlight to get back to his little 'campsite'. Thankfully the lit fire made it much easier to locate. "Sorry I am making you stay out here with me, buddy. Here, I'll bring out the rest of our friends to keep us company."
Releasing his pokemon one by one, Sylvester watched as Daisy and Dasher flocked to Marley's side to investigate the egg. Realizing that Ponyta's body produced flames, he suddenly got an idea. "Dasher, would you mind laying next to the egg for awhile? I'll make plenty of marshmallows if you do." While Dasher was not so keen on the delicacy, Marley began nudging the egg close to him and lying there with it as well. Even Daisy the Shroomish joined in, all of his pokemon cuddling next to the fire as he roasted another few marshmallows. "Make sure you don't all smother or crush the egg, now."
Though, Sylvester had to admit—the sight of his pokemon cuddling before him was rather adorable.

For quite some time, Sylvester and his pokemon merely talked and ate roasted marshmallows deeper into the night. Within the next hours or so, the sun had made it's way around the globe, and the surrounding area was darkened by nightfall. If not for their ongoing fire and Sylvester's flashlight, it would have been pitch black. At least everything except his Ponyta, whose mane was comprised of pure flames.
Listening to the crackling firewood, a disheartened Sylvester chewed away at a roasted marshmallow. His pokemon had been doing the same, listening now to the scarce sounds resonating within the surrounding area. Crickets were chirping away, or whatever it was called, and the occasional caw of a flying type pokemon could be heard as well. "Well guys, we've been out here awhile. Do you think we should go back to the hotel?"
Almost forgetting that going back meant being forced back inside their pokeball, he was surprised when they all seemed to oppose the desire to go back. He quickly realized it was only natural, though, for them to want to stay out and about for a little while longer. "Alright, well I guess I will try to catch some sleep. I'll put some more wood on the fire to keep it burning through the night." Placing large-sized logs onto the fire, Sylvester rolled out his sleeping bag right next to his pokemon. Built with a pillow all-in-one, he quickly sealed himself inside, noticing his pokemon getting closer to him with the egg. "Good night you guys." Now Sylvester would try to sleep.
All through the night, he didn't make a single movement or sound. Deep within his dreams, Sylvester watched almost as a bystander whilst he defeated Petalburg City's gym leader. Time was unaccounted for during the full-fledged battle, and just as he won the glinting of the badge caused him to wake up—the rising sun glaring brightly in his eyes. Letting out a gentle yawn, he turned over to see that his pokemon were missing.
Quickly removing himself from his sleeping bag, Sylvester heard the loud crying of a pokemon, almost like a bird's chirping. Getting up on his feet and scouring the things in that very direction, he was relieved to see his pokemon not far in the distance. But what was that, an orange ball perched upon Sylveon's back? Is that really...?
It was Torchic, Sylvester swiftly making his way over with a wide grin on his face. With his Shroomish and Ponyta taking notice, Sylveon too turned around—allowing the Torchic to see Sylvester for the first time. "Torchic! Tor, Torchic!" Immediately it jumped from Marley's back, falling only so far into the thick grass that helped cushion it's face-first landing. Before he could even ask or see if it were alright, the upbeat pokemon sprung back up and ran towards Sylvester as fast it could. Kneeling down, he let the pokemon approach him, as his other pokemon surrounded and watched.
Sylvester was at a loss for words—speechless, as it was often referred to. Extending his arms forward, the Torchich seemed reluctant at first, but soon crawled up into them as to allow Sylvester to gently hug his new pokemon. Rising to his feet, Sylvester finally knew what had to be done. "Alright gang, let's go clean up camp. We're going to take our new friend to the pokemon center in Petalburg City. Then we can start his training."
Making swift work of his sleeping bag, Sylvester gathered all of his materials into his backpack whilst his pokemon made sure the fire was out with dirt and rock. Once all of them were done, Sylvester placed all of his pokemon inside their pokeballs—exempt Torchic. "I'll have to think of a name for you here soon. Bear with me until then, okay?" With a soft chirp the pokemon seemed to be alright with the scenario, Sylvester heading back towards Petalburg City to make sure his pokemon had hatched correctly and was in good health. END OF THREAD
